This week, we're very fortunate to have a chat with a dear friend & former UYP client, Ethan Schaltegger. Meeting through the discipline of powerlifting, our paths have intertwined over the years thanks to the practice of mindfulness meditation. In this episode, we dive into the commonalities & differences between a moving and seated mindfulness practice, the powerful, foundational life skills powerlifting and meditation can give you, the importance of an examined & fully embodied life for seeing clearly & making meaningful moves, and leaning into trusting your intuition to surrender to the light of the universe, your life purpose, and desires.// connect with ethanhttps://www.instagram.com/eschaltehttps://www.youtube.com/@ethanschalteggereschalte@gmail.com

Your calling may not seem linear, and that's okay because it doesn't have to be. Despite how society makes it seem, you don't have to confine yourself to one field of study in order to be successful. What matters most is following what feels good and creating what you love. It only has to make sense to you, because you can see the common thread between it all. Release your doubts of questioning yourself and trying to figure it out... so you can simply sit in the awe and joy on your journey to your own path of self-fulfillment.🎁 FREE GUIDE: OPENING YOUR GIFTShttps://poastrengthandwellness.com/opening-your-gifts-guide📶 UYP: 1x1 ONLINE BUSINESS COACHINGhttps://poastrengthandwellness.com/apply-for-uyp♾️ SERENITY: 3-DAY MEDITATION RETREAT FOR CREATIVES:https://poastrengthandwellness.com/introducing-serenity🌟 JOIN THE COMMUNITY ON INSTAGRAMhttps://www.instagram.com/thepursuitofauthenticity_Thumbnail photography: @chloeamandaphotography

In a culture hyper-focused on productivity, performance, and pressure to excel, play can be seen as a waste of time. Why would you waste your precious time and energy goofing off when you could be striving towards your goals?
As children, play is something that comes natural to you. You aren’t taught to do it, it’s just something you do! As you come of age, you’re sent to school, work, maybe to college, and are taught to be a productive and responsible member of society. Play becomes a thing of the past.
Overtime, agitation and stress begin to build up. You feel spread thin, like you can’t keep up with your never ending to-do list, leaving you rushed, bitter, and with no time to do what you actually love!
Tune into this episode to remember what it means to play, something you were born to do!

In a society that expects you to always be on, doing, and productive, rest can be seen as a radical, revolutionary act. If you’re someone who often lets rest and relaxation fall to the back-burner of your to-do list, this episode has been made for you!
Yoga Nidra, also known as NSDR or non-sleep deep rest is a potent self-care practice which originated in India and has been developed for over thousands of years. It’s been gaining traction and coming closer to the spotlight in the West over the last couple years. It's my goal with this episode to continue bringing light to the gift that is Yoga Nidra.
In Episode 44, you’ll learn what Yoga Nidra is, when and how to practice it, and be given the opportunity to try on an hour-long practice. Be sure to listen until the end to learn just some of the scientific and spiritual benefits that Yoga Nidra has to offer.

Courtney illuminates a perspective on how to approach eating and your relationship with food that is not widely discussed in strength and conditioning circles. Many athletes see nutrition as a vehicle to achieving a better outcome in their sport, whether that’s physique and/or performance related. And while common nutrition approaches (i.e. tracking calories and/or macronutrients, keto, intermittent fasting, plant-based, nutrient timing) are effective at producing desired outcomes like gaining muscle mass and losing body fat, there is a holistic perspective that is largely missed en route to said outcomes.

In this episode, Courtney guides you through understanding how a sustainable lifestyle of pursuing less can not only enhance your quality of life, but is actually of greater service to the world! We discuss where the underlying energy of discontent arises while chasing numerous goals, what’s at stake from living in this manner, and what does it look like to transcend this? If you are someone who constantly feels frustrated while running in so many directions, this is for you!
Many folks are living in excess in our current day; excess in terms of over-working, over-exercising, etc. Some stay busy to avoid processing emotions, others to seek validation from outside, or to feel worthy themselves. Whatever the case, living in excess can be quite barren. Not only can it be straining to your well-being, and therefore not sustainable, it can lead to going through the motions of life rather than moving from a purposeful, powerful and productive presence. By learning to move more intentionally and follow a disciplined pursuit of less, you can begin to see with a clearer heart and mind due to feeling excited and invigorated by the deep, rich, and fulfilling gift that is your life.
I touch on it in the episode, but it’s worth stating here: I’m not saying delayed gratification & the pursuit of more is BAD. This episode is illuminating where a constant pursuit of more can cause Self harm.
After listening, I'd love to hear from you on Instagram… How do you plan to apply doing less, better? How can you create more white space in your life to invite in more alignment, ease, and efficiency & create the greatest work of art there is, your life?
Thank you SO much for tuning in and see you in the next episode!

You’re hard headed, your own harshest critic, constantly driven to improve, never satisfied, no realistic expectation of ever catching up to your ambitions. This athlete mentality has been embedded in you... to always go go go, be productive, rest is for the weak, etc.
I get it. I operated this way for YEARS; treating my body like a machine, pushing myself SO hard through an injury that I burned out, was FORCED to slow down, and change my pace in the pursuit of my athletic goals. Now I have deep gratitude for yoga and mindfulness because it completely changed my approach as an athlete, and is exactly why i’m able to share this knowledge with you guys today.
Within this episode, you'll learn practical ways to bring more mindfulness into your world as a driven athlete so you can maintain OR reclaim the joy and freedom in your athletic journey so it enhances your quality of life, rather than white knuckling your way to success, possibly burning out, getting injured, and having to step away from the craft you love for extended periods, or possibly forever.
Of course, we'll define what mindfulness is, cover why it's SO important to practice as an athlete, and share some open ended questions to get yours wheels spinning on where else you can bring mindfulness into your routines to ensure the pursuit of your physique and performance goals is as gratifying as the outcome.
Head over to Instagram after you listen and share with the community.. do you currently incorporate any of these mindfulness techniques into your day as a driven athlete? If not, which ones do you plan to try out?

Courtney Bishop, High Performance Coach and Host of The POA Podcast, guides you through a gratitude meditation practice. This episode was inspired by Episode 47: ‘The Science of Gratitude and How to Build a Gratitude Practice’ on Huberman Lab, a podcast hosted by Professor of Neurobiology at Stanford University, Andrew Huberman.
To provide a little insight, Huberman explains recent research showing data that support the fact that receiving for yourself or perceiving the narrative of others receiving genuine thanks and appreciation increases your ability to experience gratitude and maintain a positive outlook in everyday life. This is quite different than what many folks think of when they imagine a gratitude practice - which usually takes the form of either writing down what you are celebrating, or meditating on these things you are thankful for.
Therefore in Episode 31, Courtney uses this guidance to send sincere appreciation to YOU to provide you with an effective gratitude meditation practice you can return to and rely on routinely!

So, it felt appropriate to provide this little treat to you! Enjoy this guided meditation to get a better understanding of the chakras and learn how you can use them as a gateway to open the doors of perception & become more in tune with thy Self.

Karina is currently a Masters student at USF studying Exercise Science. She is a research assistant in both the Performance and Physique Enhancement lab and the Molecular Pharmacology and physiology lab at USF Health with Dr. Bill Campbell.
As we’ll touch on in the episode, Karina has been through her own struggles as an athlete with binge eating, competing and learning how to manage her health. From these experiences, she’s been able to better understand how to navigate nutrition along the very broad spectrum - between supremely structured and tracking macros & habits down to the minutiae to eating intuitively and approaching nutrition with more flexible mindset.
What I’ve always admired about Karina is her focus on delayed gratification within her coaching methods. Making sure you don’t neglect mental health in pursuit of physical health is paramount to ensure sustainable results. Give this a listen to hear our own trials and errors in nutrition, what we’ve learned collectively in the industry over the years, and what we’ve come to know around what works from our own coaching experiences. No matter what stage you’re at, you’ll be more equipped to set yourself up for nutritional success after listening!

This guided meditation will take you on a deep exploration of your senses. Oftentimes, we are so busy rushing through life that we don't take in as much of an experience as what's actually there.
By taking time to intentionally explore our senses, we can become more present in the moment. When we slow down and connect with our experience, it also provides us the reminder that we are not an outsider. It is not us on the inside, and life is happening out there. With this guided meditation, that is what we are making the space to connect with and experience. Get ready to be still, slow down, and tune in.

Do you battle with body image issues and feel like no matter what you do, you cannot lose weight/change the way you look? I know many of you are struggling with body image due to being at home more, eating out of boredom, and just feeling thrown out of routine. I've been there!
Due to quarantine, I was not able to do my regularly scheduled podcast interview for this month, but instead I felt called to put out this guided meditation as a reminder that YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR BODY. It is easy to get stuck in wishing our bodies to be a certain way, but believing it is just not who we are.
As kids, we use our imaginations to be whatever we want to be. But as we grow older, we start telling ourselves stories of who we are and they become deeply embedded into our subconscious and guide our actions. Maybe the issue isn't your body, but the stories you are telling yourself. With this meditation, you will become more aware of the thoughts getting in your way of living a life of honor and respect towards yourself.
This episode will help you become more aware, during and after the podcast, of how you might be able to change your mindset towards living the healthy and vibrant life you dream of. It's time to come from a place of love, kindness, and compassion to step into this highest version of you.

Many of us understand what it feels like to constantly be charging forward, checking things off a to-do list, and thinking about the next task before you’ve even finished the current one. This often leads to feeling like there is never enough time to get everything done, and that the days and/or weeks are flying by. This is where Yoga Nidra can provide you with an opportunity to just be here, present, and give you the time to just honor your infinite being in space. If you are new to Nidra, this episode will be the perfect intro! When we take the time to sit still, observe, and connect with the breath, we are able to open up to the creative life force that is ever present happening around and within us. In this episode, I decided to share a recording from a walk I took through the woods a couple months back where my mind got going on society and how it’s changed over time. I imagine people used to be much more curious and adventurous back in the day. Without advanced technology like we have today in our faces in all the time, people had much more downtime to exercise free thought and be outdoors to explore nature. They had more desire to discover because there was still much unknown, almost like they didn’t have a choice because it was just a way of life. Now, we can survive most days and have our basic needs met without a worry which has created a state of complacency.
I realize after listening to this, it does sound rather cynical. I don’t mean to generalize but I do see this trend occurring as we continue to automate and technology advances. Anything that requires deep concentration of thought, many tend to shy away. Commitment is seen as a burden and we complain when something gets hard. Only you know if this actually applies to you or not. There are plenty of people who are evolving and doing the best they can given their circumstances and that’s all you can ask for. All I am saying is strive to be better and do your part. What we do now, echoes in eternity. –Marcus Aurelius

Recently, I have been working on a meaningful project: creating a podcast to engage other like-minded individuals. The focus is to share my life experiences, share stories of other great individuals and how to apply these lessons to your life. I believe we all have a unique message to offer which others can learn from.
This is something I have been contemplating for a while and it’s time to I give back. If you’re like me, you’re busy. Blogging has been enjoyable for me but time consuming to read and reading can become bland. That’s why I love podcasts, they allow me to multi-task, are convenient to take on the go and make me feel more engaged with the conversation.
On this podcast, I strive to provide insightful and informative audio to help others grow to realize their potential. The episodes will contain my own thoughts life, as well as bringing others on the show for discussion. Together, we can start a community and enrich the world one podcast at time.
On this first episode, I go into the topic of productivity. We all struggle to cultivate willpower and motivation to accomplish what needs to be done. But by taking less time focusing on doing, can we actually be more productive?
Do you find yourself to be constantly consumed in work or some activity to occupy your time and stay busy? Many of us fall victim to this. It's not to say being busy is terrible, because we know scheduling and planning facilitates results. However, being excessively preoccupied with activities can be detrimental. By allowing more time for "being," we can become more efficient in the doing. See where your mind takes you when you let it wander. Boredom can be powerful, and actually rather interesting.
References for the literature I mentioned on studies of willpower being a limited resource below: https://www.apa.org/helpcenter/willpower-limited-resource.pdf http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/20565167/ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20876879
