A few years ago, Nikia Phoenix began sharing stories of hope and perseverance from friends who inspire her. Now it's time for her to share her own story. After over a decade living and thriving in Los Angeles, she decided to follow her heart and embark on a new adventure in the city of Atlanta. What seemed like an easy layup, turned into one of the most defining times of Nikia's life. From betrayal and the end of relationships to losing her own voice and creativity. In this season of The Nikia Phoenix Podcast, Nikia is discovering her actual truth and regaining her sense of self.
Starting off 2023 with an interview sure to move you. For this episode, Jo and Nikia are chatting with Latishia James, affectionately known as Rev. Pleasure. She is a Black queer femme, womanist, writer, facilitator of healing spaces for BIPOC women, femmes, and LGBTQIA folks, and sacral spirituality coach. Latishia also worked as Director for Move to End Violence, and shares her insight on gender-based violence.

On the first day of this new year and new decade, I made an affirmation: I am giving myself permission to let go. Healing can be such a roller coaster. This month has been a mix of relief and emotional exhaustion especially with the passing of people dear to us. As we move forward, I realize that it can be so hard to say goodbye.
Since we last talked, I experienced a truly life-changing retreat that helped me uncover some of my deepest, darkest secrets. While I drive around LA, I recount my time at Onsite and some of the ways I am learning to tackle my trauma and grief. A little meditation goes a long way.
On a road trip to Tennessee for a creative retreat, I explore bits and pieces of what led me here. What sparked the change of scenery from LA to ATL? What detours did I hit along the way? Let’s just say that life has a way of switching things up on you,
The past year has been a doozy. I have not always been able to see which side’s up and which way to go. As I embark on this journey of healing, I gotta look back and try to see where my life took a left turn. I believe I’ll get to where I’m going soon. The new season starts now.
