Today, Devi is reminding you that “life is hard,” and if you’re living with chronic pain, autoimmune issues, or ADHD, it takes patience, self-advocacy, and finding what actually supports you day to day.
During Devi’s visit to the Sha Wellness Clinic in Cancun, an intentional reset for her personal health, modern medicine + holistic care, VO2 max testing, ICARUS, osteopathy, scans, acupuncture, and biofeedback, she realized she's been in fight-or-flight for five months despite all the wonderful moments that also occurred during this period.
The question that has been circling and the idea of being seen has been at the forefront. What does it really mean to be “seen,” and why chasing it can give away your power? “No one is ever going to fully see you… But do you see you?” and we land on this truth: “It’s on God’s time. You still got to do it… even if no one notices.”
It is important to know that who you are must exist beyond the share button of exposure. Because the more time you spend seeing yourself, the more deliberate and conscious you can become towards your direct healing needs.

You are not alone in your creativity, whether it is music, filmmaking, or another expression. The ability to create offers many opportunities to heal, connect and transform everyone it encounters.
Devi sits with Grammy-winning producer Dahi who shares how his upcoming project, Black Boy Alternative, came from long seasons of self-reflection, false starts, and finally a “let God in the room” jam session approach that unlocked the story he actually wanted to tell. He explains why music can be his church, what it means to be a “Black Boy” outside the box, and offers simple yet extremely important soul work: “pray…give thanks…ask for guidance” so the weight isn’t all on you.

The summer is already almost over, and Devi shares what this fast-moving, “grief and joy happening all at once” summer is teaching her, especially how to stay present when everything feels like it’s shifting. Although there may also be a lot of positive personal shifts, it is our practice that keeps us rooted in our authentic power.

This episode feels like a real permission slip to stop chasing the version of success that looks good and start listening to what’s actually true inside of you. Dr. Julius Thomas shares how becoming the highest-paid tight end in the NFL didn’t bring peace: “the year of my life that I made the most money was also the year that I was suffering the most”, and how that forced him to face how “cold” and emotionally disconnected he’d become. You’ll hear what it really takes to pivot without turning it into a “brand update”.

This is a real insight into a longtime friendship between Devi and Nina Parker; they talk candidly about what it looks like to choose yourself when your life looks “successful” on the outside while hiding underlying turmoil internally. Nina shares how therapy helped her stop curating relationships and finally prioritize peace, starting with the simple question, “Do I wanna go? Do I like these people?” Simple questions that are somehow avoided during the decision process. She opens up about surviving an abusive relationship, how grief and public pressure can make you perform instead of dedicating real time towards healing, and why self-awareness only matters when your choices change.

Devi sits down with Koya Webb to explore what it means to thrive without perfection—through intentional choices, genuine self-worth, and practices that help regulate the nervous system. Koya reflects on a year that brought both marriage and profound loss, including a car accident, miscarriage, and the deaths of loved ones. Through it all, she discovered that grief can become “the accelerator for embodiment.”
With refreshing honesty, Koya shares that even after years of wellness practice, she found herself dysregulated, lonely, and needing to deepen her relationships and support system. This conversation is a powerful reminder that wellbeing isn't defined by what we achieve, but by whether we feel connected, supported, and like we truly belong. As Koya notes, having community and a sense of belonging is one of the strongest indicators of longevity and overall well-being.
Together, they discuss what it really looks like to design a meaningful life while navigating grief, pressure, and leadership. Koya shares how transforming everyday routines into rituals, intentionally creating beauty and joy, and returning to the breath can help us come back to ourselves. The breath is the master.
You'll also hear powerful insights on boundaries, leadership, and choosing alignment over people-pleasing, along with Koya's invitation into deeper healing through a seven-day breathwork experience inspired by her book.

Devi sits down with Krista Williams (Almost 30) for a real conversation about what it takes to come back home to yourself, especially through your body, your boundaries, and your relationships. Krista shares how book launch burnout left her feeling disconnected from something she’s proud of, and how she learned to stop scanning for who didn’t show up and instead focus on who did. She opens up about growing up with intense pressure to be thin, bingeing as a way to numb pain, and how healing began when she shifted from fixing herself to “more deeply understanding myself rather than fix myself.” She offers a simple path: "allow and accept and embrace,” and reframes the body as a spiritual instrument.

This episode is the kind of conversation that makes you exhale. Jamilah Lemieux joins the show to talk about her book, Black Single Mother - the title alone has had the internet buzzing around the topic. Lemieux breaks down how single motherhood is a spectrum, not a stereotype, and how the current wave of public contempt is often about control, to place labels and struggle upon.
If you’re dating as a single mom, her advice is practical and protective: be intentional, don’t rush introductions, and “listen to what they say. Believe what they say.” They also name how respectability politics and patriarchy shape shame in Black families, and why mothers deserve full lives: “Don’t write yourself out of the agenda… Include yourself.”

Devi sits down with designer Tiffany Howell (Night Palm Studio) to talk about why your home isn’t just décor—it’s emotional support. Tiffany’s main point is simple and powerful: “Beauty is medicine,” and your space can help “reset your nervous system” when life feels hard. She shares how she helps clients find their aesthetic by asking sensory questions: favorite smells, textures, colors you dislike...because it’s “them getting to know themselves again,” and she treats each home like “its own living creature” that evolves with you. This is an opportunity to take away practical steps even without a full redesign: choose colors that make you feel safe, make daily rituals easier, and keep “three things…that bring you joy,” like a candle, a book, or a light you love turning on.

Devi reminds us that a real wellness practice isn’t about looking impressive or “creating an ideal version of yourself,” it’s about “building a relationship with yourself that you can return to consistently….It’s not difficult, it’s effortful,” and “wanting healing without devotion… is not possible.”
You’ll come away with permission to stop performing your self-care, to trust small moments of real-life integration (one breath before responding counts), and to build a flexible practice across mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs.
The soul work is simple: ask, “What do I need right now?” then write down what comes up without judgment.

This episode feels like a permission slip to stop carrying what was never yours in the first place. Devi talks with intuitive healer and Family Constellation Therapy facilitator Karie Gonia about how inherited trauma, silence, and loyalty to our family systems can shape our relationships and choices, often without us realizing it. Karie explains why this work can create change fast: “Family Constellation therapy is the deep end of the pool”.
Their grief conversation is especially grounding. Karie shares how losing her dad changed her understanding of it, and how witnessing matters more than fixing.
Listeners walk away with a simple body-based practice to feel ancestral support, notice what pulls you back, and practice stepping toward what you want.

This episode is a grounding reminder that feeling “off” isn’t all in your head, and you don’t have to settle for being dismissed, confused, or afraid. Dr. Taz Bhatia talks about the epidemic of low-grade “micro inflammation,” how it can show up as everything from fatigue and rashes to mood issues and hormone shifts, and why waiting for the classic markers (like CRP, homocysteine, ESR) can mean you’re already at a “five alarm fire.”
What really sticks is her take on holistic care: it’s not “all herbs” or being “100% natural,” it’s “looking at you as a whole person and then using whatever tool is on hand,” including labs, supplements, medication, or procedures when needed. She also names how relationships, stress, and environment can trigger symptoms, “the body knows before maybe we know”, and encourages building a team across physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and community health.
Plus, an offering of simple soul work: deep breathing to “reboot the nervous system” and reconnect with your own bio-intelligence.

Dr. Marc Brackett joins us today to talk about what emotional intelligence actually is—and why it’s not just “being a deep feeler” or a good talker. He breaks it down with his RULER framework (recognizing, understanding, labeling, expressing, regulating) and pushes for more precise language than “good,” because nuance changes everything.
One of the biggest takeaways: emotional skills don’t grow without “permission to feel,” and most people didn’t have an “emotional ally” growing up—someone “non-judgmental” who offers presence instead of fixing. He also shares practical regulation tools: “never worry alone,” watch your self-talk, and set identity-based intentions (like being “cherished” and “alive” as a parent). He reminds parents, including Devi, that it’s “effortful, but it is not difficult,” and sleep is often the hidden barrier.

Today we sit with our very first guest of Season Five - therapist and bestselling author Nedra Glover Tawwab, who talks about what it means to “take life seriously” through intention, and why success doesn’t have to start perfectly. Her new book, The Balancing Act, is about learning the difference between “tolerable annoyance and abuse and neglect,” so we stop cutting people off for normal friction and end up lonelier. She reminds us, “we are in charge of our phone,” and sometimes the healthiest move is just not answering, without turning it into a relationship-ending talk.
What is a healthy community? Tawwab jokes about how important our interactions are, even with the baristas at our local cafe. Every interaction, especially the reliable day-to-day interactions hold value, and often can be healthier than the relationships we put the weight of expectations on.
We also elaborate on "how useful it is to know how you show up in the world" and not get pigeonholed into an attachment style. Therapy and our conversations shared within those sessions are to help us identify our patterns and why and how they show up, and create outcomes that don't align with our desires. Tawwab points out these scenarios, how they’ve shown up in her life, and allowed her to acknowledge how she’s grown.
As always, we end the episode with soul-work. Nedra offers the question: “What is your relationship with offering people grace, extending it to yourself as well?

Some things cannot be resolved. They can only be held. This episode is about paradox as a practice. Not a philosophy, not a concept, but a real and living skill for an era that is pulling us in every direction at once. We move through what it means to stop forcing clarity where life is asking for capacity, and why emotional maturity might be the most important work of this particular moment in human history.
At the heart of this episode is a deeply personal story of receiving the devastating news of the loss of a friend, whose life was taken. Devi shares how this impacted her and what practices she reached for when she was carrying something so fresh and heavy, all while showing up for a room full of women excited to deepen into their lives and purpose.

Today, Devi shares a conversation that she leads at the Mental Wealth Expo discussing the profound impact of religious trauma and the courageous work of reclaiming personal agency and trust. Devi shares the stage with Dr. Teddy Reeves, Senior Curator of Religion at the Smithsonian, and Carl Lentz, a former pastor and current strategist at Transformation Church. The conversation focuses on defining religious trauma, recognizing its effects, and finding pathways for healing. “Our ideas of the Divine affect the status of women and girls across time and history, and they deeply influence how we see ourselves.”
Today, Devi welcomes the incomparable Meggan Watterson — feminist theologian, speaker, and author of Mary Magdalene Revealed and The Girl Who Baptized Herself. Together, they explore the divine power of sacred femininity, the wisdom of higher consciousness, and the reclamation of women’s spiritual authority.
With warmth and clarity, Meggan shares stories of lost scriptures, the erasure of women’s voices in early Christianity, and the radical love embodied by figures like Mary Magdalene and Tekla, stories that challenge old narratives and invite us into a more expansive, inclusive understanding of the divine.
This episode gently unpacks the religious trauma many carry, offering an empowering reminder that spiritual truth lives within us. Meggan speaks to the beauty of feminine embodiment, the courage it takes to listen to our inner knowing, and the healing found in reconnecting with the sacred within.
To close, Meggan offers a simple but profound three-breath meditation — a grounding practice that helps us return to our hearts, our truth, and divine love.

In this powerful episode, Devi is joined by mental health advocate and thought leader Ann Russo for a conversation that speaks directly to the hearts of those healing from religious trauma. Ann brings deep wisdom and compassion as we explore what it means to reclaim your agency after experiencing harm in spiritual or religious spaces.
Together, they dive into the often-unspoken complexities of religious trauma — how it impacts identity, self-worth, and the connection to something greater. Ann shares her groundbreaking Religious Trauma Treatment Model, offering a path toward healing that honors both faith and authenticity, especially for those in the queer community who have felt excluded or erased.
“What is the definition of religious trauma?
If you think of PTSD, know where depression, anxiety, difficult functioning, challenges in relationships, you're just, overall, something has impacted you that is making life harder to live in a sense. And in this situation, we're talking about religion, and sometimes with PTSD, we can think of it as like a one-time event. I was in a car accident. I'm afraid to be in a car.
But with religious trauma, especially if you're raised in the church, you're going through these events over and over and over. So it becomes very, very complex. It impacts how you view yourself in relation to creation, deity, faith systems, scriptures, and how you navigate the world in these communities.”
This conversation is a reminder that true healing requires safe spaces, cultural competence, and deep humility from those who hold space for others. Whether you’ve personally experienced spiritual harm or are simply seeking to understand and support others on their journey, this episode invites you into a space of empathy, restoration, and radical self-reclamation.

Today, Devi is joined by the luminous Lee Harris — globally beloved energy intuitive and author — for a conversation that feels like a breath of clarity in the midst of a transformative era. Together, we reflect on the deep shifts happening in our world right now and what it means to care for ourselves while moving through such revolutionary times.
Lee offers insights from his new book The Future Human, and we dive into the wisdom of his guides, the Zs — who speak to the collective awakening unfolding all around us. We talk about how to stay rooted in our truth, how to recover from spiritual and emotional burnout, and the sacred practice of choosing self-care as an act of strength.
This episode also brings forward a conversation that so many of us are ready for — one about authority, co-dependence in spiritual spaces, and the journey of reclaiming your power. We explore how to honor your intuition, navigate your own evolution, and step away from projecting onto spiritual teachers so that your path remains your own.
This dialogue is an invitation to go deeper—into your practice, into your knowing, and into the quiet space where healing begins. It reminds you that you are your own sacred guide and that the work of becoming is always unfolding.

She speaks about her upcoming EP “Say Yes” and the soul that lives in the music: a reflection of her truth, affirmations, and sacred conversations with God. It is an invitation to lean into community, deepen your self-discovery, and allow healing to ripple through every branch of your family tree.

Today, host Devi Brown and guest Lalah Delia explore the themes of values, integrity, and the importance of sisterhood. They discuss the depth of friendship, the journey of self-discovery, and the significance of building authentic connections. They also discuss the process of letting go of toxic relationships and the importance of self-worth in attracting meaningful connections. Through personal anecdotes and insights, they illustrate the transformative power of supportive relationships and the journey toward higher consciousness and self-care.
The discussion also explores the understanding needed to make higher choices, the necessity of creating safe spaces for authentic expression, and how authenticity is a valuable tool for identifying these spaces. It is important to know your value as a woman and a friend. These sincere connections allow space for your weaknesses and strengths to show up. Your value is never interrupted but rather accepted every day.
If you have these circles of friendships, know and honor them and if you are on the journey to cultivate them, it is a healthy practice to ask yourself, “What do I need to let go of to raise my vibrations, and attract the desired connections?”

Devi records this episode from Baja by the Sea of Cortez. This year, if you haven’t already, perhaps make it a resolution to find your sacred place (ideally in nature) that makes you feel comfortably connected with the source. Remember you are your own healer. You are committing to becoming what you individually specifically desire. Pay sacred attention to the consistent signs around you that resonate and speak to your spirit. These unique signs are specific to you to be translated into your awareness. Allow these miracles around you to become normal, allow them to guide and affirm you. This is the year…the time to envision the heightened experiences and feelings that you are destined to have.

As we come to the close of the year it is a great time to reflect and examine the changes we intend to make moving forward. Devi concentrates on four areas of intention to encourage; how you are relating to your personal intimacy, your professional life, the structure of your home, and your understanding of self and/or a specific topic. Consider taking the time to prepare for the change you want to see. Continued blessings to all of our listeners in the New Year. Thank you.

This is not for the faint at heart, but for those who are ready to evaluate the totality of their growth and honor the steps, the day-by-day micro wins, and/or your subtle behavior patterns. It’s for documenting the small changes and the truth about where you are in life.

This is a very special episode as Devi Brown and Michelle Williams appear on each other’s podcast for the first time.
Here is the episode with Devi Brown on Checking In and we continue the conversation on this episode of Dropping Gems.
Michelle has been radically expressive about her journey and her experience with depression. For Williams faith and therapy can coexist and work to support one another during the healing process. Williams shares how she initially questioned her depression, how would it look, what would people think, etc. The endless questions that normally go unanswered and ultimately have no weight when it boils down to individual self-care. Being authentic also means honoring what you need on your journey.
In Psalm 100:4, we are told to “enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.”

As we navigate through the construct of white superiority, which has taught us to separate, predetermine and label, we must be cognizant on our spiritual journeys to actively question how we take up and offer space towards creating healthy co-existing environments.
