Elise Loehnen is on the podcast today! She is the author of On Our Best Behavior: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Price Women Pay to Be Good. This book weaves together history, memoir, and cultural criticism to explore the ways patriarchy lands in the bodies of women and embeds itself in our consciousness. Elise also hosts the podcast Pulling the Thread. If you are into spirituality at all and are interested in hearing from spiritual elders and wise thinkers those are some really great conversations over there! Elise has co-written/ghost written 12 other books.
In this conversation, we focus on raising emotionally healthy boys. This is hard to do because it’s a cultural thing not just something that happens inside our own homes! We talk about envy, something women tend to struggle with. We talk about how women are givers and why that is. I have a lot of spiritual questions (of course!) I love that this is one of the things that she focuses on in her work and it was so fun to pick her brain!
This is a wide-ranging conversation and I had SO much fun chatting with Elise!

Eve Rodsky is joining me today! She is the author of Fair Play and Find Your Unicorn Space. Eve is working to change society one partnership at a time by coming up with a new 21st century solution to an age old problem: women shouldering two-thirds or more of the unpaid domestic work and childcare for their homes and families. Have you ever felt this frustration? That you’re taking a lot of that labor?! That’s because a lot of women do!!
We talk about ways to communicate and how to have a fair play system in your partnership. These things don’t just fall into place. As I listened to Eve’s book, Fair Play, on audible, I was thinking that we really need to have these conversations before we have kids and even before we get married!
Eve’s great message is that we should treat our homes and relationships like organizations. She came up with a game that helps you with life management systems so that you can re-balance the domestic load with your partner and strengthen your relationship!
I hope this conversation helps you with your communication and talking about this stressful topic!!

Zibby Owens is the host of the podcast, Moms Don’t Have Time to Read Books. She puts out a daily show where she interviews authors. Daily?!?! What! She is also the author of a memoir called Bookends: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Literature. She also has her own publishing house – how cool is that!?
I’m so fascinated by the fact that she really launched this career after she turned 40 and got divorced. I love hearing success stories of people on different timelines! This is such a good reminder to keep chasing your dreams.

Amy is the co-host of the Herself Podcast and the Pursuing Her Purpose Podcast. She is also the co-founder of Expecting and Empowered. Amy is a former RN. She hosts the Herself Podcast with one of her best friends. And get this – they just bought a vacation home together! This was so much fun to talk about with Amy. It sounds like a dream for me and Amy gives us the ins and outs of that.
One of the things that we talked about in this episode that I really loved is that your business can grow and change with you and with the audience as you grow and change. This really resonated with me regarding this podcast. It was a fun conversation about following what you are passionate about and interested in.
Amy was so much fun to have on the podcast – continue to follow all that she is doing on her Instagram @ameskiefer.

There was so much in this episode that I needed to hear and I hope that you all find the value in it, too!
Dr. Cara Goodwin is a child psychologist. She runs the nonprofit Instagram account called the Parenting Translator. She also has a podcast and a substack page for that where she shares research. She translates recent scientific research into information that parents can actually use. This concept is SO cool because you know that all that she is sharing is ad-free and simply her dissection of the research. Cara is doing really great work over there!
Cara is also the mom of four so she understands what it’s like implementing this research first hand with her own kids. We had a great conversation in this episode about just that – when gentle parenting and other parenting techniques simply don’t work with your kids! I loved talking about that because we all have great intentions to implement these strategies but each of our kids are unique and need something different. We also talked about how to help your anxious child, what anxiety looks like in children, school avoidance, and more!
To wrap up this episode, we talked about what a Tradwife is allllll of our thoughts on that. This term was new to me and I’m curious to hear what you all think. I know you’ll be going down a rabbit hole of researching this after hearing our conversation!
What we talked about:
4:45- Dr. Cara’s work
9:25- What she does when the research doesn’t work in her own parenting
16:10- Talking about anxiety with our kids
24:50- School avoidance
