Jay Joseph Duncan, is a first generation West Indian. She was born in Vancouver BC to her Trinidadian parents. Teaching brought her father to Canada and the family settled in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island when she was 3 years old. In 1981, Jay moved to Victoria to obtain a psychology education then a business certificate specializing in marketing. Jay has been passionate about supporting people through emotionally vulnerable events and for the past 21 years has worked as a Birth Doula and Childbirth educator in the Greater Victoria area. She is proud to have served over 500 families during the births of their babies. It was a job you never got bored of because each person, family and birthing experience was so unique. Although she calls her self “semi-retired” that typically means that she’s lightened her load (mainly in doula work) in order to open new doors for growth and enlightenment. Jay remains a staunch advocate for the diversity of birthing families and has begun her journey of a Community Herbalist in order to use her knowledge to benefit those going through their birthing and postpartum journeys. She has been married to her Calgary born husband, Nick for the past 27 years and have brought two amazing children into this world who are now young adults. Jay rounds out her life pursuing art, hiking with her dog, cycling, skiing, going to movies, enjoying good food and belly laughs with family and friends and being greatful that she’s able to wake up in a gorgeous place like Victoria everyday.Follow Jay on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mamajay1962?igsh=N3kzdnIyZTI5ZDQyEpisode sponsor: Hearts and Bloom Etsy store: http://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/HeartsAndBloom
