OWL Storytelling Recordings (2018-2019)
OWL Audio Archive
Students were asked to craft a short personal narrative and record themselves performing their stories.
We explored the techniques that students and expert writers use to weave together universal ideas with powerful stories from their own lives.
Our work allowed us to hear a variety of audio/video stories from podcasts (i.e. The Moth, StoryCorps, and This American Life), and study the choices speakers made in terms of story structure, word choice, and developing a writer's voice that can convey a specific tone or mood.
The last few weeks have been devoted to applying these lessons to our own personal stories. Students wrote, outlined, practiced, recorded, critiqued, workshopped, revised, polished, and perfected an engaging, focused story about any key moment from their own lives.
