Life can change in an instant. In this heartfelt episode of Connecting Faith and Life, I share two major updates—one very unexpected and personal, and another that marks a new chapter for Proclaim Ministries.
First, I open up about a serious hand injury that required surgery and recovery. What began as an ordinary morning suddenly turned into an ER visit, stitches, and weeks of physical therapy. Yet through the pain, I experienced God’s presence and the power of prayer in ways I never had before. The love, compassion, and encouragement I received from family, friends, and our ministry community reminded me that we don’t always need to “fix” people’s problems—sometimes just being present makes all the difference.
Second, I reveal the exciting new direction for Proclaim Ministries. We are sharpening our focus: helping kids and teens connect faith and life—and equipping the adults who disciple them with clarity and competence.
This means new content, a fresh framework (the One10 Faith & Life Framework), and renewed commitment to serving churches and families worldwide.

Challenges of Social Media and Cell Phones
On behalf of adults, I apologize to kids and teens for creating addictive devices and networks. Adults fall victim to the comparison trap that social media creates, but kids and teens do so much more. Social media has created an environment where people not only compare themselves to other people they know, but to other people in the world, including fake accounts.
I want to encourage kids and teens to be faithful to their own paths, as set by God, rather than trying to be like others.
One way to do that is to spend time with God's Word. Reading the Bible helps all of us understand God’s true nature and avoid creating false idols.
Are you weak, strong, or wise?
"Weak people seek pleasure. Strong people seek purpose. Wise people seek God."
We can be easily tempted to only seek pleasure in our lives. But we are just as readily tempted to seek purpose. True pleasure and purpose are only found in God.
“We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We have all been there. We get distracted or busy and put our personal time with God on the back burner. We know we should read our Bibles and pray more, but we don’t.
The key message is that knowing what to do must be translated into doing it. A new employee cannot be too busy to meet with their boss or they may end up making mistakes. Spending time with God is essential for growth, guidance, and empowerment.
This is not a guilt trip, but a gracious invitation to spend time with the Creator of the universe.
Jesus had a practice of rising early in the morning to spend time with the Father. Even during the most intense instances of Jesus’ ministry, He chose to spend time with God. Jesus is an example that we need solitude and intimacy with God before serving others.
Intimacy with God must be scheduled, not squeezed in. Time spent with God is the most important meeting we will have each day. Like an ax needs to be sharpened before cutting wood, we are sharpened by spending time with God.
Questions to consider:
What practical steps can you take to make your time with God a priority, even on your busiest days?
How can you overcome the distractions and busyness that prevent you from spending consistent time with God?
Action Items:
Reflect on whether you are too busy, distracted, arrogant, or lazy to spend time with God, and make adjustments as needed.
Consider joining the "before the world wakes up club" and making time to connect with God in the morning.
Ensure that you are being "sharpened" by God before engaging in the "deep work" for Him.
Prioritize spending time with God daily, even if it's just for a short period.

At times, I am tempted to worry.
Philippians 4:6-7 says, “...do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
I like this verse because it reminds me about God’s provision. He is the source. When I am tempted to worry, I can look to God and know that He is in control. No matter the outcome, I know that it is part of God’s plan.
Teaching Kids to Pray and Not Worry
Kids have a lot they are worried about. That is why teaching them how to pray is essential. Teaching them memory verses can help them not to worry about anything and pray about everything.
Personal Reflections and Practical Advice
Being disconnected from God can lead to worry. That is why spending time in God’s Word is so important. We have the privilege of being honest with God about our worries because we can trust Him to carry the burdens.

Prayer and Doing Good
Sometimes the only and best thing you can do in a crisis is to pray.
The importance of prayer is not in accomplishing a certain outcome. The main significance of prayer is seeking God in all circumstances.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7
Prayer is an act unto God. It is doing “good.” Galatians 6:9 encourages us to not become weary in doing good, as it will lead to a harvest at the proper time and it will always glorify God.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” - Galatians 6:9
Defining Your Relationship with Jesus
All relationships need to be defined and that is especially important for your relationship with Jesus Christ. But who gets to decide the level of commitment in your relationship with the one true God? Jesus does.
There is a cost of following Jesus. In Luke 9:23, Jesus calls for self-denial, to take up your cross daily, and follow Him. Self-denial means saying no to selfish ambitions and following God's plans, not your own.
You also must be willing to suffer for Christ. In Acts 5, Peter and John are beaten but they rejoice because they were worthy to suffer for Christ's name.
The depth of your relationship with Jesus is more than just believing but involves belonging and loyalty. It is a relationship of discipleship, where you follow and obey Jesus as the leader. Your relationship must stand firm on truth and not be swayed by the world's opinions. As described in James 1:22, you must be doers of the word and not just hearers.
The relationship with Jesus is one where God calls individuals into a relationship, not just into following rules or religion. Jesus calls us into truth.

We have some good momentum at Proclaim Ministries in the kids and teen ministries after Vacation Bible School. New Proclaim Partners are joining, and many kids are visiting the Proclaim Kids website to do memory verses. What you focus on, you will follow. What you follow impacts your choices and your affections for God. The media and activities you engage with can either stir or steal your affections for God. Social media can have a major influence on your mindset. That is why it is so important to set boundaries and be intentional about what you consume.
Scriptural Guidance and Practical Tips
Colossians 3:1-2, Hebrews 12:1-2, and Philippians 4:8 emphasize the importance of setting your mind on things above and focusing on Jesus. Seek God. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Turn your attention to what is right in God’s sight. Be intentional about your habits and create good habits that draw you closer to God.

Vacation Bible School Stories
My daughter, Sophia, who loves working with kids, did a great job leading songs and sign language at Vacation Bible School this summer. It was great seeing her flourish in serving kids.
Another story from VBS involves a kid misusing my teaching on his mother. He used the attention getter called "waterfall" on his mom during discipline. The kid's mom texted me, thanking me for the teaching and shared the funny story.
Thought of the Day: Would You Want to Go to Heaven if God Was Not There?
This Thought of the Day question is inspired by a song by Sha Linne called "My Portion." .
The question and the song challenge us to consider if heaven is desirable without God, emphasizing that salvation is about a personal relationship with God, not just a place. In Psalm 73, Asaph realizes that God is his portion and his strength, not the things of this world.

There were over 300 kids in daily attendance at Vacation Bible School (VBS) held at VC Family Church. My role at VBS was leading memory verses and speaking during the main session. On VBS Sunday, following VBS week, I taught one of the memory verses to everyone. It was a lot of fun.

Was it wrong for God to forsake Jesus on the cross?
Jesus became sin for us, allowing God to forsake Him so that we might be righteous and never be forsaken. Furthermore, 2 Corinthians 5:21 explains that Jesus took our place and was forsaken so that we might be righteous.

Do you ever feel misunderstood? That can be discouraging. I want to assure you that God knows and loves you.
In 1 Samuel 16:7, God tells Samuel that He looks at the heart, not the outer appearance, to emphasize that God knows our true selves.
If you are feeling misunderstood, find comfort in knowing that God sees and loves you, even when others may not. Seek God and confess your sins to Him, knowing that He is faithful and just to forgive you.

Proverbs 3:5-6 is a message to trust in the Lord with all your heart and not to rely on your own understanding.
This passage is a reminder to filter your thoughts through what God says, whether through His Word, prayer, or the Holy Spirit.
Numbers 13 recounts the story of the Israelites sending spies into Canaan and their reactions to the land's abundance and the size of its inhabitants. The Israelites' doubts led them to project their fears onto others, creating a narrative that caused them to refuse to enter the Promised Land. Only Caleb and Joshua believed God's promise and encouraged the Israelites to trust Him.
We can learn from the Israelites' experience and the importance of not projecting our fears onto others in our own lives.
Calls to Action:

There are many examples in the Bible of people choosing their own way over God’s way. In every situation, there were major consequences of choosing their own way over God's way.
In Genesis, Adam and Eve’s disobedience led to sin and death. There was short-term and long-term brokenness when Abraham and Sarah tried to have a child their own way. The Israelites' request for a king in 1 Samuel 8 despite God's warnings, brought destruction. In the New Testament, Peter attempted to prevent Jesus from going to the cross. Jesus' response to Peter was, "Get behind Me, Satan."
God's way is always better, even if it is not always comfortable.
In 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, Paul describes his thorn in the flesh and God's response. God did not remove the ailment that Paul had, but Paul trusted God's grace in that difficult situation.
Here is some practical advice for choosing God’s way in your circumstances:
Don’t rush into relationships. Slow down and get to know the other person.
In your career there is a balance between making money and fulfilling God's calling. Use your gifts and talents to not only support yourself financially but to give to God.
Choose forgiveness. It is a key aspect of God's way. Let go of grudges and trust God's way of forgiveness.

Share your own story of how you've learned that God's way is better.
Start a conversation with someone about this topic and discuss how it applies to your lives.

Life’s struggles can make it difficult to want to thank God.
Sometimes the stories we tell ourselves and the narratives we create in our minds, make it even more challenging. We tend to look at other people’s lives with rose colored glasses. It even happened in the Bible. In Genesis, Adam and Eve questioned God.
We also have examples of people in the Bible who chose to trust God in the midst of trials. Joseph, who was sold into slavery and imprisoned, remained faithful to God. The Hebrew boys thrown into the fiery furnace and John the Baptist, who lost his head for preaching God's word, are also examples of faith in difficult circumstances. Jeremiah and the Apostle Paul faced hardships but remained steadfast in their faith.
I’m not suggesting that thanking God in bad circumstances is easy.
We should have compassion for people who are struggling and understand the broader perspective of God's faithfulness in difficult situations. Unfortunately, people will experience pain in their lives. However, God is in control and has a plan, even if it is not always clear.

God is trustworthy. We can give thanks in all circumstances, not necessarily for the situation itself but for God's presence and control. It takes looking beyond our current circumstances and seeing God's hand at work. We can always be grateful because God is faithful, even if we don't feel it or see it.

We have a tendency toward self-reliance and independence, which is good in some circumstances. However, we must remember our need for God to live and function daily. Through prayer, you can ask for guidance on how to trust God in various life situations, including when life doesn't go as planned.
Three key practices for trusting God:
Reading God's word daily.
Meditating on God’s word.
Remembering who God is.
Read the Bible daily, even if it's just a few verses, and meditate on those verses throughout the day. This will renew your mind with God's truth to live a life connected to faith. God's word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Use Bible apps and other resources to help you read and meditate on God's word daily. Trusting God more will come through spending time in His word.
Through reading and meditating on God’s word, you will remember the attributes of God, such as sovereignty and omniscience. It is God and His attributes that make Him trustworthy. This will help you focus on God's understanding and not rely solely on your own.
Identify specific areas in your life where it's hard to trust God, such as family, finances, or relationships. Journal and pray about these areas to bring them to God and seek His guidance. Focus on God's faithfulness and remember His past actions to trust Him in the present.

Despite believing in God's sovereignty and goodness, do you find it difficult to really trust God? You probably know that you can trust God, but it can be hard when struggles come into your life.
I know for me, I have challenges trusting God during difficult financial seasons, such as tax time and the summer when our income is reduced. I tend to focus on my own abilities rather than God's provision. I know that I need to stop worrying and trust God, so I turn to His Word for help. Seeking God's kingdom and righteousness first, helps me know that all other needs will be provided.
Psalm 73 was written by Asaph, a worship leader who struggled with trusting God. Asaph envied the prosperity of the wicked and questioned God's goodness, feeling betrayed by his own faithfulness.
I can relate to Asaph's struggle. It’s easy to feel betrayed by God when seeing others prosper while they are living ungodly lives. But it’s important that we are not swayed by external appearances and maintain our trust in God.
When Asaph entered the sanctuary, he understood the destiny of the wicked. This is a parallel to our own need to spend time in God's presence to gain clarity and trust. We can correct our vision and maintain trust by spending time with God in His Word and meditating on His promises. God is the ultimate source of our strength. Trust God continuously, not just during difficult seasons.

You have probably heard of the trust fall. It’s an illustration to represent trusting someone enough to catch you when you fall. We can trust God in that same way, but does God need to trust us? No. God is self-sufficient and does not need anything or anyone.

The idea that God is self-existent and self-sufficient is reinforced through various scriptures.
In Acts 17, Paul explains that God does not live in temples made by humans and does not need anything, as He gives life and breath to all. In the beginning, God created. (Genesis 1) Psalm 50 further enforces God’s self-sufficiency. God is incomprehensible but He is knowable. (Psalm 145:3)
God has entrusted humans with time, talent, and treasure, and it is our responsibility to be faithful with these gifts. As Christians, we are ambassadors for Christ and represent God on earth.

Reflect on how you are using the time, talents, and resources God has entrusted to you to glorify Him.
Consider whether you are creating more than you consume, especially on social media, and use your platforms to shine God's light.

This podcast is inspired by the speaking I did at two high schools for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes groups.
How should Christians treat people who don't believe in Jesus or who look down on Christians?
It’s easy to get frustrated with those who don't believe in Christ. But it’s important to show compassion to those who are lost. Being upset with these people is like being upset with someone who is blind and cannot read a book sitting in front of them.
The greatest need for unbelievers is not to live a moral life but to have their eyes opened to see the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is our duty as Christians to help unbelievers see the truth of God, not just be upset with them.
“In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:4
Paul's words in 2 Corinthians inspire us to not lose heart and to not practice cunning or tamper with God's word. He stresses the importance of speaking the truth in love and not using underhanded methods to get people to church.

“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” Colossians 1:28
It can be challenging to share the gospel with people who outright reject it. You can share the gospel while doing it in a loving manner. Be patient and give grace to people who hold different views or who are seeking out the truth but aren’t quite there yet. Focus on the heart and the issue (their salvation), not just the outward actions.

Pray for boldness and wisdom in sharing the gospel with unbelievers in a loving manner.
Continually point people to the truth of Jesus Christ, rather than promoting yourself or your church.
Have compassion for unbelievers, recognizing that they are "blind" and need to have their eyes opened to the truth.

Acts 27:1 - 28:10 recounts Paul’s journey to trial before Caesar.
Throughout the long and perilous journey, Paul continued to encourage the people despite the dire situation. All along he pointed to God as the source for his positive outlook. Paul's actions even turned the heart of the centurion to spare his life. Paul's focus on God allowed him to become a leader and a source of encouragement for the others.
We should be cautious against expecting the same outcomes as Paul's experiences, but rather focus on the underlying principles. Paul’s journey focuses on faith and gratitude, even in difficult situations. Maintaining a positive focus, looking to God, can provide stability and perspective.
Seemingly negative events can have positive outcomes when viewed through faith. Paul emerged as a leader on the ship despite being a prisoner, through his unwavering faith. Focusing on God gave Paul the ultimate source of strength and resilience. The passage’s core message can inspire us to choose faith over fear and to trust in God's plan.

Despite the many challenges and distractions in the world, faith is not just for Sundays. It should be a daily practice.
It’s important to use your abilities and gifts to honor God in everything you do. Worship encompasses all aspects of life, including mundane tasks like doing homework or laundry. From the activities you participate in to the music you listen to, what you believe shapes how you live.

The church is not just a building but the people of God who gather together for encouragement. You are to be doers of the word and not just hearers. (James 1:22) Living a Christian life is not about earning favor with God but about living the best life possible through faith. Your faith should guide your daily actions, not just your religious activities.
You can live out your faith in many ways. Practice honesty and integrity in your daily life. For example, tell the truth even when it is difficult. Dishonesty negatively affects your relationships with others and with God. Live a life that honors God, even in small actions like obeying your parents or doing chores.
Your faith can be lived out in various contexts, such as at home, school, and with friends. Respect others and work hard as acts of worship. Living your faith may require that you deny yourself, even if it means making difficult or unpopular choices.
Community and support are also important for living out your faith. Be intentional about reading God's word and spending time in prayer. You might also find it helpful to write down ways to apply your faith in different areas of your life.
It won’t always be easy to live out your faith in your daily life. Daniel certainly didn’t have it easy, when he continued to pray to God despite facing threats. His example shows how to live out your faith under pressure. Trust in God's strength and power. Honor Him in all circumstances. God will not leave you nor forsake you, even when things are difficult.
Some practical steps:
Build up a foundation of faith by spending time in God's word and in prayer.
Pick one area of life where you are struggling to walk with God, and be more intentional this week about what that looks like. Make a new habit to apply your faith practically in this area.
Write down one way you can apply your faith at school, at home, and with friends.

Let’s face it. It is a challenge to follow Jesus in a world that doesn't seem to care about anything, much less Him. If you want to follow Jesus, you will stand out like a sore thumb. But it is still important to make choices that align with biblical values. Ultimately, we have a responsibility to God alone.

Following Jesus takes one step at a time. The world tries to conform people to its ways, but Christians should be transformed by the renewing of their minds. (Romans 12:2) Reading and listening to the Word of God and Christian music can help you renew your mind. Be intentional about what you watch, listen to, and allow into your life.
It’s helpful when we seek God's approval over the approval of others. Not everyone will like you, and that's okay, as long as you are following Jesus. Focus on your own walk with God and don’t compare yourself to others. Be light in the darkness of a fallen world.

Your struggles are a part of your story and God's glory. Your pain, trouble, and heartache can work for your good and God's glory. God can use your painful experiences for a greater purpose.
I’m not suggesting you seek out pain. However, you can trust God during painful experiences. Painful experiences can contribute to the larger picture that God is working on.
James 1:2-4, explains that trials produce steadfastness and resilience. God is in control and can be trusted to work everything for your good and His glory.
We can also look to the story of Joseph which illustrates how God uses pain for good. Joseph had a rough life, including being sold into slavery, and being falsely accused and imprisoned. Through all of his trials, Joseph was faithful to God and God was faithful to Joseph. Joseph's story teaches us to trust God through all circumstances.
As children of God, we may struggle but we should not give up. Trust God and have faith that He will not waste your pain, but will use it for your good and His glory.

Repentance and confession are important aspects of our Christian faith. As children of God, we can go to Him with our sins. God's grace and mercy are sufficient to cleanse and forgive us, and we should be honest with God about our sins. He knows anyway.
Confessing sins helps us maintain fellowship with God and cleanses us from unrighteousness. Confession is about agreeing with God that what we have done is wrong and turning away from it in repentance.
Confessing our sins helps us to avoid repeating them and to maintain a close relationship with God. One practical tip for confessing sins is to call the sins by their names and be specific about what we have done.
Our new identity in Christ changes our relationship with God and our understanding of sin. We can be confident that God has and will forgive us.

Reflection and Application
As a believer, you are no longer the old person you used to be but a new creation in Christ. You do not have to be stuck on the past.
The Apostle Paul experienced a transformation. Not only did his name change from Saul to Paul, but his entire identity changed. Instead of being a Pharisee and persecutor of Christians, people regarded him as a brother in Christ.
Despite others' perceptions of you and your past mistakes, you can live as a new creation in Christ.

Some of you may remember that I played drums in my church as a youth. One of my favorite songs to jam out to on the drums was "I’m Free." I didn’t fully understand the implications of that song. It means so much more now that I understand it.

What is freedom? Understanding freedom starts with recognizing your identity in Christ. As a new creation, you are free from sin.
Exploring Romans 6
As a believer in Jesus Christ, you have died to sin and are set free from it. (Romans 6:3-4) Baptism is a symbol of being immersed in Christ's death and raised to new life. You are a new creation. Your salvation involves being rescued from the penalty, power, and presence of sin. Believers are no longer enslaved to sin but have a new identity in Christ.
Living Out Your Freedom in Christ
So how do you live out this new identity in Christ? The Holy Spirit leads believers and convicts them of sin. You will still face temptations, but as a new creation, you will be led to make choices that reflect your new identity.

Adoption and Its Perceptions
There are various views on adoption. Some positive and some negative. I worked with pregnancy testing centers and adoption ministries, which changed my perception of adoption.
Initially, I viewed adoption negatively, associating it with negative circumstances like teenage pregnancy or drug use. However, through the work I was doing with pregnancy centers, I began to see adoption as a positive act of placing children into stable homes. This experience changed my understanding of adoption and its beauty. The Bible speaks highly of adoption as well.
Adoption into the Family of God
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” John 1:12
There is a difference between being a creation of God and being a child of God, which comes through faith in Jesus. Those who trust Christ are adopted into the family of God. This adoption creates an opportunity for believers to have an intimate relationship with God. True belief and receiving are essential for accepting the gift of salvation and becoming a child of God.
The Doctrine and Invitation of Adoption
Adoption is a legal right given to believers, granting them all the privileges of being a child of God. This legal relationship is based on the work of Christ and a believer’s faith. You do not have to earn God's favor through good works. Adoption is a free gift, not something that can be earned or lost based on behavior.
Do you struggle with feelings of unworthiness? Remember that you have been adopted as a child of God. This assurance comes from God's Word, not from personal feelings or actions. Your adoption into the family of God is a free gift, not something that can be earned or lost. Embrace your adoption identity and live a life connected to the Lord.

John 3:16 is one of the most well-known verses. Let’s break it down.
"For God so loved the world," highlights the attributes of God, including His creativity and sovereignty. The concept of sacrificial love is highlighted. God's love is not just affection but a willingness to give His only Son, Jesus Christ. The word "world" in this context refers to the people on the Earth. The focus is on people, emphasizing that God demonstrated His love by giving His Son, Jesus Christ.
“That he gave his only Son,” explains the significance of Jesus Christ as the only one who could die for the sins of the world because He was sinless and perfect. This verse also supports the concept of God’s triune nature.
“That whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” The verse promises eternal life to those who place their trust in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world.
Biblical Stories Illustrating John 3:16
The account of Abraham and Isaac illustrates the concept of giving one's only son, drawing a parallel to God giving His Son, Jesus Christ.
The Passover account explains how the lamb's blood protected the Israelites. It points to how Jesus Christ is the ultimate sacrifice that protects believers from spiritual death.
The account of Moses lifting the bronze serpent in Numbers 21 emphasizes the importance of faith in God's provision for salvation.
John 3:16 is a promise that God made to the world. A promise that those who believe in Jesus Christ will have eternal life. Some people, who find it too easy to believe in Jesus Christ for salvation, reject God’s promise.
This is the method God has provided for the way of salvation. It is through Jesus Christ alone. Trust what Christ has done and do not rely on your own efforts or deeds for salvation.

Here are some of the thirteen hacks to be 99.9% more disciplined, remembering that the goal is to live for God, not to achieve material success or wealth.
Cancel your morning alarm: This is more about ensuring adequate rest and avoiding distractions.
Turn off all notifications to reduce distractions.
Clean out your pantry: It’s easier to avoid temptation than to fight temptation.
Delete useless decisions: Make decisions once and stick to them to avoid unnecessary time-wasting.
Hack your algorithm: Make social media content be something that can feed you and not deplete you.
So back to what discipline means: it is not for earning God's favor but for living a life that honors God. Just like athletes exercising self-control and discipline, we want to live with purpose and not aimlessly wander around.
Reflect on your own discipline and consider how you can live a life that honors God. Be faithful with the responsibilities and opportunities God has given you.

My daily routine is to do PBJ (Prayer, Bible, and Journaling). I’m not perfect and I do miss some days, but I try to keep this as a daily habit. It helps me to stay connected to God and I hope it will help you too.

It is important to not only live for ourselves, but to strive to do our best in all endeavors, whether in our jobs or personal lives. It’s easy to complain and be down about what we don’t have, but we need to remember all we have is from God.
It brings Him glory when we look to the positive. We can bring more glory to God by maintaining a good attitude at work and avoiding negative small talk. Listening to Christian music inspires us to praise God and brings us joy. Not stressing about things beyond our control, as they are in God's hands, brings Him glory. Everything we do should reflect God's glory.
Lessons on Humility
The story of King Nebuchadnezzar from Daniel chapter 4 illustrates the consequences of pride and the importance of acknowledging God's role in our successes. Nebuchadnezzar's pride led to his downfall and God humbled him, ultimately restoring him with a new perspective. It can be hard, but we need to be humble and acknowledge that all good things come from God.
People often seek to worship others instead of God. We were not made for worship, but we were made to worship God. We should not worship pastors or celebrities. True worship should be directed towards God.
When we focus on glorifying God through our actions and words, we naturally turn our worship toward God. We are created in God's image and are meant to reflect His awesomeness to the world.

Here are three practical steps for living a life that glorifies God:

Go out and light up the world with our actions, ensuring that our good works reflect God's glory.

The Pharisees and Sadducees often tried to trap Jesus with questions, but Jesus always silenced them. One day, Jesus was asked by a lawyer what the greatest commandment in the law was, to which He responded, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind, and the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (From Matthew 22:34-40)
Can the Christian faith be summarized by these two commandments: loving God and loving people?
Defining Love

The English word “love” is not very clear. You can say you “love” pizza and you can say you “love” people, but those two uses of the word “love” do not mean the same thing. You probably don’t love pizza as much as you love your mom.
The Hebrew word for love is ahavah and the Aramaic word for love is rakhmah. But as Christianity spread, Jesus’ teachings were translated to Greek. The Greek word for love is agape. Jesus' followers redefined love based on His teachings and actions, emphasizing love as an action rather than a feeling.
Showing love to others is a reflection of God's love. It is exemplified in helping and serving others, especially those who can’t repay you. It also includes loving your enemies.
The ultimate standard of love is demonstrated by Jesus' life and sacrifice. Jesus' death on the cross is the ultimate act of sacrificial love and it demonstrates God's love for the world.
“God demonstrated His own agape for us in this, while we were still sinners, the Messiah died for us.” - Romans 5:8
Reflecting on Love and Its Practical Application
The kind of love emphasized in the Bible is agape love. Agape love is self-sacrificial in nature and it starts with Jesus' sacrifice.
Loving God involves more than just attending church; it means having affection for God and honoring Him with your life. When you love someone you seek to know them better and draw closer to them.
Loving people is treating them as Jesus did, which goes beyond the Golden Rule. It’s about loving others unconditionally, even those who are difficult to love.
Love is central to the Christian faith and should be demonstrated in everyday actions. Live your life in a way that reflects God's love to others, and be honest and accountable in your relationships.

Joy comes from hope in God's love and promises. It’s deep and sustaining. We can learn to focus on God's presence and faithfulness rather than on trials themselves to experience more joy.
Sources of Joy in the Bible & Christian Joy and Its Depth

Various languages, including biblical Hebrew and Greek, have multiple words for joy, each with its own nuance and source.
While the world is good, it is also marked by death and loss, and biblical joy is rooted in hope in God's love and promises, not in happy circumstances.
In the Bible, people find joy in beautiful and good things like growing flocks, abundant harvests, weddings, and children. Contrast the joy found in good circumstances with the biblical story of human suffering and corruption. Biblical joy is unique. It is a choice based on hope in God's promises and not mere circumstances.
For example, the Israelites experienced joy in the wilderness despite their struggles, and the prophet Isaiah anticipated future joy. Both of these events link these themes of joy to the birth and teachings of Jesus. (Psalm 105:43, Isaiah 51:11)
The arrival of Jesus Christ brought joy and Jesus also rejoiced. (Luke 2:10, Luke 10:21)
The joy of early Christian communities, even in persecution, emphasized the concept of joy, in faith, as a gift from God's Spirit, inspiring hope in hardship. Christian joy is deeper and not determined by circumstances but by a future destiny with God. Sustainable joy can only be found in God. (Matthew 5:12)
Joy Through Trials and Faith
Where we place our hope determines our joy. Focusing on God's promises rather than circumstantial control can lead to more joy. James 1:1-14, shows us the importance of counting all joy when facing trials, and trusting in God's control and presence through trials.
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.” - James 1:2-3
This kind of joy can help us trust God even when prayers are not answered as desired. Joy is not based on the trial's resolution but on God's faithfulness.
We can look to the stories of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and John the Baptist, who all found joy and faithfulness in God despite facing severe trials. Joy can be found even in the midst of pain and rejection, as seen in the story of Stephen, who had a vision of Jesus while being stoned to death.
Joy can be found in rejection and persecution. It is not based on circumstances but on the relationship we have with God.

Biblical Concepts of Peace: Shalom and Eirene

Peace is the absence of conflict, but it also points to the presence of something better in its place.
In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word "shalom," means complete or whole. In the New Testament, the Greek word for peace is "eirene.” This state of completeness and wholeness represents restoration through reconciliation and repair.
For example, Job's tents are in a state of shalom, “You will know your tents are Shalom…when nothing is missing.” (Job 5:24) Or when referencing a stone without any cracks, “Make an altar of Shalom stone” (Joshua 8:31), and David asking about his brothers' shalom, or their well-being, on the battlefield.
The prophets of the Old Testament discuss the anticipation of a future king of shalom or Prince of Peace. We now know this is fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
Jesus's birth is the arrival of eirene. His role was to restore the broken relationship between humans and God.
The Apostle Paul's teachings on peace, include the need for humility, patience, and unity among believers through the power of Jesus Christ. Biblical peace is an active restoration of wholeness to God.
Personal Reflections on Peace and Practical Applications
It’s important to understand peace beyond the absence of conflict.
The main aspect of peace, is having peace WITH God. It is being reconciled to God through Jesus Christ. God desires completeness and wholeness with himself for all humanity. You must trust Jesus Christ as your Savior to experience true peace. (Romans 5:1)
To experience the peace OF God, bring all your concerns to him. Rejoice in the Lord, do not be anxious about anything, and bring all your concerns to Him through prayer and supplication. The peace of God surpasses all understanding and guards the heart and mind. (Philippians 4:6-8) Focusing on God brings consistent peace.
Having peace with God and the peace of God gives us the ability to have peace with others. Pursue what makes for peace and mutual edification. As far as it depends on you, live peaceably with others. (Romans 12:16-18)

Defining Hope and Its Importance in the Old Testament

Hope is the anticipation of a better future and is crucial for human existence.
In the Old Testament there are two main Hebrew words for hope: yakhal (to wait for) and qavah (to wait with tension and expectation).
The concept of hope in the Bible is often tied to waiting for God, as seen in the Old Testament and the book of Psalms. Biblical hope is different from optimism as it is based on God's character and past faithfulness, not on circumstances.
“At this moment, the Lord is hiding his face from Israel, so I will qavah for Him.” - Isaiah 8:17
“I qavah for the Lord…and let Israel yakhal for the Lord, because he’s loyal…and will redeem Israel from all its sins.” - Psalm 130:5-7
“And now, O Lord what else can I qavah for? You are my yakhal.” - Psalm 39:7
The New Testament and Christian Hope
The New Testament concept of hope, uses the Greek word elpis, which describes anticipation based on the risen Jesus. The apostles believed that Jesus' resurrection opened a new door of hope for humanity and the universe.
Christian hope is about waiting for humanity and the universe to be rescued from evil and death, based on God's character and promises. This kind of hope is not based on the odds but is a choice to wait for God to bring about a future as surprising as the resurrection.
Personal Reflections on Hope and Biblical Teachings
Learning about the biblical terms for hope (yakhal, qavah, and elpis) gives a whole new perspective on the biblical accounts.
For instance, in the story of Noah and the ark, you better understand the importance of waiting on the Lord with trust and expectation (yakhal). Noah had no idea how things would turn out, but he did have experience with God’s past faithfulness and he placed all is trust in Him.
This account and so many others in the Bible highlights hope being placed in God, not in circumstances.

This isn’t the God we sometimes create in our minds, shaped by our desires or assumptions, but the God revealed in the Bible. He is sovereign, faithful, and loving. He keeps His promises, and He is worthy of all our trust.
Reflection: This holiday season, consider how you can deepen your relationship with the God of hope. Spend time in His Word and reflect on His attributes.
- Joy and Peace Beyond Circumstances
Joy and peace are more than fleeting feelings—they’re gifts from God that surpass our circumstances. Joy is a deep delight in who God is, while peace is the absence of conflict, both internally and externally. Whether you’re celebrating with loved ones or mourning the absence of someone dear, God’s presence can bring you joy and peace.
Reflection: Take time each day to thank God for His gifts and ask Him to fill you with joy and peace, no matter what the day brings.
- Abounding in Hope Through the Holy Spirit
Hope isn’t wishful thinking—it’s a confident expectation in God’s promises. This hope abounds not because of our strength but through the power of the Holy Spirit. As we trust God daily, He enables us to overflow with hope, even in challenging times.
Reflection: Consider what it looks like to rely on the Holy Spirit in your daily life. Ask Him to help you let go of worry and trust in God’s plan.
This holiday season, let’s not be consumed by the hustle and bustle or the stress of our circumstances. Instead, let’s turn to the God of hope, who fills us with joy, peace, and an abundance of hope.

From the commercialization of Christmas and the focus on buying and spending money to the debate on whether or not to include Santa Claus, there is a lot to be said about Christmas. In a lot of ways, we have drifted away from the true meaning of Christmas.
Celebrating Advent, and its focus on the first and second coming of Christ, can be a great way to bring reverence back to Christmas.
“And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.” 1 John 4:14
The Advent calendar typically focuses on hope, peace, joy, and, love. The Proclaim Ministries Advent series includes readings, prayers, and activities like coloring sheets and word searches that can be done all throughout the month of December leading up to Christmas.

The practice of celebrating Advent helps us to reflect on God’s faithfulness. We have hope that is a confident expectation that God keeps His promises. It’s not wishfulness. Hope in God is certain. It is a hope built on Jesus' blood and righteousness.
People will celebrate Christmas differently. There is grace in allowing fellow believers to grow in their understanding of what Christmas is about. Celebrate Christmas and other holidays as unto the Lord, focusing on honoring God in your celebrations. (Romans 14)

We all want to hear positive feedback like "good job" from our bosses, colleagues, or teachers. But are we seeking human approval over God’s approval?
Let’s look at Matthew 25:14-30, the parable of the talents, to see the importance of using one's abilities for God's glory.
The parable teaches that God has given each person unique abilities and talents to be good stewards of. There is temptation to compare oneself to others. However, it’s of utmost importance to use the gifts we have been given for God's glory. We do everything as unto the Lord, not for human approval. (Colossians 3:23)

What could be hindering a close relationship with God? Confession - not just of sins but of everything.
Are you being real with God? God is omniscient and already knows everything, so being honest with Him is crucial. Human relationships often lack transparency, but God's relationship is different.
For example, in Psalm 51, David confesses his sins to God. He was open and honest with God, despite his imperfections. God knows everything about us, including our thoughts and motivations. We can trust Him and be open with Him just like David was.
It won’t be easy. We tend to fear God’s rejection. But God does not reject us. He wants a close relationship with us.
You can improve your relationship with God by spending time with Him through prayer and reading the Bible, but don’t stop there. Make confessions to God and be transparent. God wants us to be real and honest with Him.

There are five key points that are the foundation of Proclaim Ministries: I was born in church, but raised in the world, my search for more, how my identity in Christ developed, and my work in ministry.
First, my upbringing was in the church. I don’t remember not going to church. My grandfather was a pastor and my grandmother was heavily involved in the church. Initially, I was reluctant to attend church. Eventually, I grew to appreciate it, especially due to the presence of girls.
I went to church, but I lived a compartmentalized life, being involved in church activities but also influenced by the world. I was discipled by media figures like Snoop Dogg and I struggled to reconcile worldly ideologies with biblical teachings.
In my twenties, I began to search for more in life, leading me to read my Bible and listen to preachers. I became a student of the scriptures and met a Christian bookstore manager who introduced me to Bible dictionaries and commentaries.
Though I lacked knowledge in teaching the Bible to kids, I soon got involved in youth ministry at my church. I credit Child Evangelism Fellowship for teaching me how to share the Gospel with kids and to understand the Gospel.
I grew to understand that I no longer belonged to myself. My identity is in Christ. As a believer, I knew that I was saved by grace and was set free from sin. Understanding this concept changed my life and led me to share the Gospel with others.
That is how I got to founding Proclaim Ministries. I saw the importance of connecting faith and life and I wanted to help others do the same.
The foundation of Proclaim Ministries is to proclaim Jesus Christ and teach with all wisdom, making the Bible understandable and applicable to everyday life. Proclaim Ministries has been an outlet for me to be a good steward over everything God has given me, including my resources and talents.
Live for the one you were created for, finding rest and fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

Hopium and the Impact of Political Division on Faith
Hopium is a blend of hope and optimism often associated with irrational or false hope. Hopium was prevalent during this election cycle, with people on both the right and left, as well as Christians, exhibiting it. The election caused a lot of anxiety and division with people on both sides becoming increasingly polarized. Even Christians can fall into the trap of hopium, believing that a particular political outcome will bring about a utopia.
The Bible offers a different perspective, emphasizing that true hope is found in Jesus Christ, not in political figures or outcomes. I want to encourage you to maintain your focus on life's continuation regardless of the outcome of any one election.
Keeping Hope in the Right Place
As Christians, we do not put our hope in any man or institution but in Jesus Christ alone. We have the privilege and are called to pray for our leaders, including praying for their salvation and for them to govern in a way that helps people flourish. Government, though co-opted by evil, was established by God, and believers should be involved in politics while maintaining their ultimate hope in Christ.
The Call to Be Ambassadors
We are called to be salt and light in the world, influencing society through our actions and votes. We represent the King, so we represent Him in everything we do, not just through political actions but through our daily lives.
Believers are called to be busy about their purpose, making disciples and preaching the gospel, regardless of political outcomes. Our mission is to influence both sides of the political spectrum with the message of Christ.

What is gratitude? Gratitude is being thankful for what one has, rather than focusing on what one lacks. Psalm 103 is a great way to remember the attitude of gratitude.
Biblical Perspective on Gratitude
In Psalm 103, David expresses gratitude, remembering God's mercies. He shows his gratitude for God's deliverance and covenant relationship.
Gratitude for Physical and Spiritual Blessings

The forgiveness of sins and redemption through Jesus Christ is a significant blessing for believers. As Christians, we are saved from the pit of hell and promised resurrection in Jesus Christ.

Psalm 103 helps us focus on God's mercy, justice, and steadfast love. We deserve God’s wrath because of our sin, but He is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. We can have gratitude for God's forgiveness and compassion, despite our human frailty and sinfulness.
Gratitude in Daily Life
Everyone has problems, but we can be grateful for our daily blessings. Remember God's forgiveness and compassion. Despite our mistakes, we are fully known and loved by God. Reflect on and journal your blessings, as a way to maintain gratitude.
Gratitude and Praise Music
Music is a tool for maintaining gratitude and a connection with God. Praise and worship music helps renew our minds and remind us of God's presence. Recently, I was introduced to a song called "Known" by Taryn Wells, which speaks to the idea of being fully known and loved by God. Listen to the song and reflect on the message.

Rather than getting angsty about political events, Christians should be aligning our votes toward policies and actions that focus on human flourishing as defined in God’s Word. I’ll be the first to admit that this is not easy, but I think focusing on God and what He says, will help us with the political environment.
“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” Romans 13:1
When we follow Jesus Christ, we must be able to critique political leaders and policies, regardless of one's political affiliation. We aren’t partisan to a particular political party, but to Christ alone. Yes, we can have our preferences, but those preferences must not supercede our allegiance to Jesus Christ and God’s moral standards.
Let’s be honest when we approach politics. The Republican Party's strategy has been to co-opt Christian voters, while the Democratic Party has promulgated legislative policies that are morally reprehensible and demonic. There are many negative impacts of left-leaning policies on the unborn, elderly, and sick.
No doubt there is tension between being involved in politics and maintaining our Christian values. Regardless of the political party, Christians have every right to bring our morality and worldview to the voting table. But let us remember to trust in God and seek His guidance in all aspects of life.
As you cast your vote, do not put your hope in political parties or leaders, but in God. Pray and seek His guidance. Resist being provoked by political manipulation and run to the Lord with your worries. Be salt and light in the world, helping people see Jesus Christ. Prepare for the return of Jesus and focus on the everlasting kingdom.

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. The Importance of Being Involved but Not Defined by Politics
Yes. I affirm Christian involvement in polititcs. However, Chrisitans should not be defined by their politics. God has placed us in this world to be salt and light. (Matthew 5:13-16) However, we should not be of the world. (John 17:14-19)
Living According to a Different Kingdom
Christians should not live according to the world's order but according to God's kingdom. As Christians, we should participate based on what brings godly light and justice. Focusing on political figures detracts from the importance of following Jesus and doing what is right before God.
Historically, God used wicked kings to judge and grow His people. It is our responsibility to obey God, while leaving the outcomes to Him.
The Role of Prayer and Making Disciples
One of the most important ways to participate in politics is to pray for leaders and their salvation, not just for political outcomes. (1 Timothy 2:1-6) Only believers have the unique role of making disciples of Jesus Christ.
Therefore, I encourage you to be involved in politics as a way to bring light and salt into the world. As an act of worship to God, be involved in our world, but do not let politics or any other worldy circumstance define your identity or joy.

Defining Worship: Beyond Singing
You and I were not created FOR worship. However, we were create TO worship. Humans were created to worship God. We were not created to be worshiped or to worship others.
Worship is more than just singing; it involves submitting one's entire being to God. Worship is a deeper expression of reverence and adoration for God, often involving submission and recognition of He who is greater than all. True worship involves giving value and worth to God, not to people or things.

The story of Abraham in Genesis 22 illustrates acts of worship. Abraham was willing to sacrifice Isaac in obedience and submission to God. Ultimately, God stopped Abraham from sacrificing Isaac, but Abraham showed his worship to God in that he was willing to obey Him.
In the Psalms, David often worships through bowing down and paying homage to God. There are many examples of David living a life of obedience and submission to God's will.
Misplacing Worship: The Harm of Worshiping People and Things
The worship of money and material success is a common issue in society. Modern culture often misplaces worship on athletes and celebrities. The idolization of celebrities, athletes, and even pastors puts unhealthy pressure on them. Humans are not made for worship but to worship God alone.
The Call to Worship God Alone
Focus on worshiping God alone and don’t be conformed to the desires of the world. Be transformed by the renewing of your minds and worship God in every area of your life. Present your bodies as living sacrifices. Worship God through obedience, submission, and living a life that honors Him in all aspects. Romans 12:1-2

There will always be more to learn about God and our understanding of Him will continue to grow throughout eternity. However, many people have a fictional view of God. People often create their own version of God based on their own beliefs and values, rather than the God revealed in the Bible.
Do you worship the true God or an idol of your own creation? It’s important to seek God deeply and understand His true nature through the Bible.

The Key Attributes of God from Exodus 34
Some key attributes of God revealed to us in the Scriptures are mercy, grace, slowness to anger, steadfast love, and faithfulness. Understanding these attributes shapes our relationship with God. God's attributes, such as mercy and grace, are essential for our salvation.
“The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.’” - Exodus 34:6-7
The Magnitude of God in Isaiah 40 and Job 38
God is beyond human comprehension and no one can compare to Him. He has immense power and greatness. It is absurd to create idols and seek happiness in material things, as we were made by and for God, not the other way around.
God is in control and humans cannot comprehend the full extent of His power and wisdom. Job's realization of God's greatness led to a deeper understanding of God's role in the world.
Know God as He is revealed in the Bible, rather than create your own version of Him. Spend time in the Word and seek a deeper understanding of God's nature. There is joy and satisfaction that come from knowing God and drawing close to Him.
True worship involves living a life that reflects our understanding of God. I want to encourage you to consider replacing secular influences in your daily life with Christian content. God is not hiding. He desires to be known by us.

Does your past define you?
As a Christian, you should not let the past define who you are. This is true for anyone who has given their lives to Jesus Christ. No one is outside the reach of God's forgiveness and salvation. Even the Apostle Paul was transformed from persecuting Christians to being redeemed by God. Believers are new creations in Christ, no longer defined by their past sins.

The law was given to show human sinfulness and that people cannot do anything about their own sin. But Christ fulfilled the law perfectly. Believers are justified through faith in Christ, not by keeping the law. The motivation to follow God is love, not to earn salvation.

Is forgiveness an excuse to sin?
Forgiveness is about letting go of the debt owed to you. Forgiveness does NOT condone sin.
Matthew 18:21-35 illustrates the importance of forgiving others as God forgives us. Forgive others and live free from the prison of unforgiveness and the burden of anger and bitterness.

I grew up in a single-parent home with my three siblings. My mother and grandparents played a significant role in my upbringing. I was involved in church activities from a young age, including playing the drums and participating in youth group. I believe that I was saved at the age of 13, despite being baptized at 11.
I was saved, but I lived a compartmentalized life, where church activities were separate from my daily life that was heavily influenced by the world. Those worldly influences, including music and TV shows, contrasted greatly with my church experiences.
I experienced gang violence and drug use in my neighborhood. I faced challenges in navigating relationships, especially with girls. Because of this, I became a father out of wedlock at the age of 20.
Throughout this time, I experienced cognitive dissonance between my Christian beliefs and my actions. That led me to search for more meaning in life. My journey towards deeper faith was driven by my interest in business and motivational tapes. Let me explain.
On the long road trips I had to take for work, I began to listen to preachers like Tony Evans and Charles Stanley, which sparked my desire to learn more about God. I started reading the Bible and buying commentaries and dictionaries, despite not being an avid reader.
I began to understand God's greatness through scriptures, such as Isaiah 40 and Psalm 104, which emphasize God's power and control over the universe. I believe that understanding God's nature and attributes helped me grow in my faith.
Your personal engagement with the Bible and consuming biblical preaching can deepen your understanding of God too. Read the Bible and seek a deeper relationship with God.

Common prayer requests in church often center on illnesses, homes, and crisis situations. That is totally fine. However, in this podcast, I am focusing on a different type of prayer request, asking for boldness and strength, and not just better health.
“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:9-14
This verse focuses on the importance of being filled with the knowledge of God's will and spiritual wisdom. The prayer includes elements of pleasing God, bearing fruit in good works, and being strengthened with God's power for endurance and patience.
As mentioned by Paul, we need endurance and patience in the face of struggles and persecution. It is good and right to acknowledge the pain and setbacks in life. Following Christ will inevitably involve problems and persecution. This is why prays for endurance and patience with joy are so important.
Along with praying for spiritual wisdom, we can pray for boldness in standing firm, in love, for what God has called us to do.
“...and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.” Ephesians 6:19-20
My perspective on this question: How do I forgive myself and move on?
Forgiving yourself starts with this: acknowledging that God's forgiveness is complete. Receive His forgiveness. Believe He has forgiven you. If God forgives you, you can forgive anyone, including yourself. I’m not saying it’s easy or that there aren’t long-term consequences to bad choices, but keep reminding yourself that God forgives you.
Three steps to forgiving yourself and moving on:
1) Get over yourself. You are not the first person to sin or fail.
2) Receive God’s grace. Believe Him when He says you are forgiven. God is just and faithful to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
3) Move on. Keep walking with the Lord. Learn your lessons and keep reminding yourself that God forgives you.

Does God love everyone the same?
The Bible teaches that humans are created in God's image, giving them intrinsic value and worth. Humans have a special status compared to other creatures. God's image has been marred in humans due to sin, but that value remains.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27
Is God's love for Christians different from His love for non-believers?
God loved the world, and the people in it, and sent His Son for their salvation. Christ died for sinners while they were still sinners. That’s ALL of us. But believers experience a different kind of love from God due to their relationship with Him. Believers experience God's love in a unique way, akin to a parent's love for their child.
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” John 1:12
It is more important to focus on experiencing and sharing God's love with the lost rather than dividing over its nature.

Is Christianity a religion or a rescue religion?
Religions are humanity’s attempt to reach God. However, Christianity is about receiving God's gift of eternal life. It’s not about human efforts. Whether Christianity is called a religion or a rescue religion is less important than understanding its core message.
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
Unlike other religions, Christianity is not about works. It’s about receiving God's grace and mercy. Titus 3:5 and Ephesians 2:8-9 emphasize that salvation is a gift from God, not something earned through works. Faith alone is sufficient for salvation.
Christianity is a rescue religion. Old Testament believers had their righteousness credited to them through their faith in God. We are rescued from our sin when we trust Jesus Christ. Christianity is about what Christ has done, not what humans can do for themselves. We get to live out our faith with the foundation of Christ first.
“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14
Jesus rescues people from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. Jesus came to seek and save the lost, as stated in Luke 19:10. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

I want to go over this idea of forgiveness using the song Forgiveness by Da' T.R.U.T.H. Music can teach truth with the lyrics being a form of poetry and a way to glorify God. I like how Da' T.R.U.T.H uses imagery to talk through pain and hurt emphasizing forgiveness is a choice, not just a feeling, and requires following God. He emphasizes the importance of forgiveness and letting go of hurt to find freedom in Christ.
Read Genesis starting in chapter 29 to learn about Jacob and his 13 children, including Joseph, who was born to Rachel, Jacob's favorite wife. Joseph's brothers were jealous of him, they betrayed him, and sold him into slavery.
After many years of being in Egypt and seeing his brothers again, Joseph forgave his brothers and rescued his family from famine, becoming a hero to them. Joseph's brothers feared he would seek revenge for their past wrongs, but Joseph forgave them and assured their well-being.
Joseph's example of forgiveness and trust in God's sovereignty provides a pattern for Jesus' sacrifice and our own forgiveness. When faced with pain and suffering, we can find comfort in knowing that God is in control.
Forgiveness is a choice that leads to healing. It will not be easy. It doesn't always lead to reconciliation, but it can give you peace and comfort over your life.
Pray and ask God for help in walking through the process of forgiveness towards others who have hurt you. Let go of bitterness, even if reconciliation isn't possible. Forgive others because God has forgiven you.

Forgiveness is hard, especially in the context of betrayal and wrongdoing. When someone wrongs us in some way, it can be hard to forgive them. I think a lot of that has to do with how forgiveness has been defined.
Forgiveness does NOT mean what the other person did to you was okay. Forgiveness is NOT saying, “It’s okay,” when it’s not okay. Forgiveness is NOT a feeling.
Forgiveness is releasing someone of the debt they owe you.
Talk about hard. This is why forgiveness can be painful. It has to be a choice and it’s a process. You may need to reach out to another believer to get support and pray to God for help in walking through the process of forgiveness.
“Forgive those who hurt you or your hurt may never end.”
Let’s look at Matthew 18:21-35.
Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive someone who sins against him. Jesus responds with a parable about a king who settles accounts with his servants, highlighting the limitless nature of forgiveness.
The servant in the parable was forgiven a large debt by his master, but then he refused to forgive a smaller debt owed to him by another servant. The master punished the unforgiving servant by putting him in prison until he could pay all of his debt.
The servant's refusal to forgive highlights the importance of showing compassion and mercy to others because we have been forgiven much ourselves. Failure to forgive others can negatively impact our relationship with God and hinder our walk with Him.
This might mean that you forgive others even if they never asked for forgiveness. Letting go of past hurts and forgiving others is for your personal healing and growth.
One way to find forgiveness can be summed up in this 3-step process:
I choose to forgive: The first step is to let go and choose to forgive. This begins the healing process.
I am forgiving: The second step of forgiveness is the longest. It may require that you seek help and support in processing your hurt.
I have forgiven: The third step is being in a place of forgiveness. You no longer hold onto the hurt you had.
Forgiveness is a choice, not a feeling, and requires effort and time. It also requires that we seek God through prayer and reading the Bible. We may also need to seek help from other brothers and sisters in Christ.
Though forgiveness is difficult, it can be accomplished and it will support your healing and freedom.

Consider this: do you listen to and identify with certain groups, ideologies or causes more than you focus on your faith in Christ? We have a tendency to prioritize group affiliations over our Christianity. It is important to not let the world force us into categorizations based on race, political affiliations, or other identities, and instead focus on Christ above all else. Our primary identity as Christians is in Jesus Christ.
We have a lot to be grateful for in the United States, but our primary allegiance is to God. The world tries to make Christians enemies of each other, even within the church. When we strive to hold onto our group affiliations before our connection as believers, we will lose. Consider whether you are more identified with your political beliefs or your Christian identity.
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:1-2
Embrace yourself as a new creation in Christ (Galatians 3:23-28). Believers are no longer bound by law but walk as children of God through faith in Christ (Galatians 3:25-26). There is unity among believers, despite differences in race, ethnicity, or political views. Focus on our shared values as Christians, rather than what the world tells us to focus on.
So what does it look like for believers to responsibly participate in the culture? It can start with agreeing to disagree on some issues. Seek God's will and peace over situations and pray for our leaders. Live as Christians in the world without being conformed to it or divided by worldly affiliations. Vote in a way that supports human flourishing.
Seek God's sovereignty and control in politics, rather than relying on human authority. Pray instead of getting angry about political and cultural issues. Prioritize decency and love, and follow Jesus Christ.

In youth ministry, it is important to balance engaging content with biblical teaching, and to spend time with God personally so that you overflow with God's love to others. It’s about facilitating the group meeting, asking thought-provoking questions, and creating space for discussion and growth. Get to know your students and challenge them with truth from Scripture, rather than simply entertaining them with games and fun activities.
Unlike community centers, local churches have a unique role in making disciples of Jesus Christ. No community program for youth can do that except the church.
Additionally, youth don’t need more friends. They need men and women of God to be themselves, love God, and help them become believers in Jesus Christ, rather than try to be cool or relate to them in a superficial way.
We can teach youth the Word of God while also making it engaging. I want to share resources for youth ministry leaders, including training and small group facilitation tips.
When leading small groups of students, ask thought-provoking questions and give space for discussion. Our series called How to Facilitate a Small Group can walk you through how to lead small groups.
How to Facilitate a Small Group
Leading small groups is important, but I can’t emphasize enough the importance of self-care for youth ministry leaders. You want to avoid burnout by refueling and staying connected to the source - God. There is a danger for leaders in overgiving and under-receiving.

The focus of any ministry, including Kids Ministry, should be in creating disciples. Our job as the church is to equip parents to disciple their own kids and provide support, not just babysit kids, to help them grow in faith. Supporting parents and Kids Ministry requires intentionally incorporating kids and youth in the main church.
I asked Pastor Travis to join me today because I noticed a unique approach to teaching kids on Sunday with parents at VC Family Church. This is especially the case with Vacation Bible School.
Vacation Bible School (VBS) is fun and it’s an extended time to teach God's word to kids. It’s also an outreach to kids who might not come to church on Sundays. Pastor Travis also incorporates a VBS Sunday to reach more people and make it a team effort.
Inviting kids into church service and parents into VBS creates opportunities for intergenerational connection and Gospel sharing. It connects kids and adults through the Gospel message.
For churches looking to make more connections between Kids Ministry and the main service, here are some ideas:
Plan to intentionally seek out opportunities to align the messages taught in Kids Ministry with the Sunday sermons.
Consider providing parents with notes or summaries of what their kids are learning in Kids Ministry.
Engage kids in the main services by having them write down notes from the sermons and sharing them with parents.
Continue your efforts to reach, teach, and equip the body of Christ in the context of family and relationships.

What is the criteria for going to heaven? The truth is, on this side of heaven, we cannot be perfectly sinless. Therefore, salvation, or going to heaven, is based on our faith in Jesus Christ. It is not based on our works, but on the finished work that Christ accomplished on the cross for sinners.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
God's love and grace through Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for our sins is what offers eternal life to those who believe. Believing in Jesus grants us the power to become children of God, with the promise of never losing that status. Being born of God is a work of God, not something that can be given back or taken away. True salvation is a transformation that cannot be undone. It’s not just a profession or a label we give ourselves.
That being said, it is important to confess our sins and ask for forgiveness. Asking for forgiveness restores the closeness and intimacy we have with God.
God will remain faithful even when we sin. As Christians, we will go to heaven if we die before asking for forgiveness, based on Christ's work, not our sinful actions.

The Gospel means good news. The good news can be summed up in 1 Corinthinas 15:3-4, “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures...”

The reason for the Gospel, or the good news, is there is some bad news. It’s called sin. Sin is anything we think, say, or do that displeases God or breaks God’s law. We all sin.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. ” John 3:16-19
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” John 3:36
Are You Saved?
Salvation is understanding and trusting in what Jesus Christ has done for us. There are no magic words that make a person saved, so there are no magic words for sharing the Gospel. We do our best to share the Gospel with people, but God does the work of bringing them to faith.
When I share the Gospel, I like to start with God’s existence. If people don’t know there is a God or who He is, how can they realize they are sinners in need of a Savior?
All humans are created in God's image, so we all have dignity, value, and worth. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27
However, that image has been marred by sin. Sin brings death. Because we have sin, we need a Savior that saves us from death and makes us right with God. We cannot solve the problem of sin ourselves because we inherently have sin. It’s not about personal works or achievements, but rather placing our faith in what Christ has done.
Jesus Christ, who is sinless, took our sins on Himself. He died on the cross, was buried, and rose again on the third day to defeat sin and death. We must trust in the finished work Christ did for sinners in order to be saved and

Salvation is being rescued from sin; sin’s penalty, sin’s power, and one day the very presence of sin.
Sin’s penalty is death and being separated from God forever in a place called hell. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
Once we trust Jesus Christ for salvation we are saved and set free from the power of sin. “So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” Romans 6:11 We are new creations in Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Salvation is not a feeling. You aren’t saved by going to church regularly or by getting baptized. Receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior requires belief and trust in His sacrifice, not good works or personal effort. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 2 Corinthians 5:21) In order to receive the gift of salvation, you must believe it is a gift. (John 1:12, Romans 10:9-10) Trust in Christ's work on the cross and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved. (Acts 16:31)
I grew up in the church but didn't understand what it meant to be saved. I couldn’t answer the question, “How do you know you’re saved?” My early understanding of faith was based on works. I had to do good things in order to be saved. It took some growing up and discipleship to understand the truth of the Gospel and trust in Christ's sacrifice. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
I lived a duplicitous life where I was one way at church, one way at home, and another way at school. I thought all of the “good” things I did would outweigh the bad. One day, my cousin Mark shared the Gospel with me and I was saved. Something changed that day and the Holy Spirit started working in my life.
Sounds great, right? However, I still struggled with sin. I struggled with relationships and personal growth despite trusting Christ as my savior.
My faith really started to develop in my early 20s. I started reading the Bible more and listening to preachers on purpose. I got involved with Child Evangelism Fellowship and started to learn how to teach the Bible to kids. The CEF ministry grew my faith. That time of my life helped me learn more about my faith and how to share my faith.
Examine your own faith and ensure you are placing your hope in Christ alone for eternal life. “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3

Prayer is not just a formal act, but a personal conversation with God that can bring comfort and relief in our times of need. We can bring our burdens to God through prayer. I often find relief in carrying my worries and concerns to Him. Prayer is constant communication with God throughout our daily lives.
Recently, I was convicted about prayer or rather the lack of it in my life. Prayer is a privilege we have as believers. Prayer is communion with God, the Creator of the universe and all that is in it. It is an invitation to a better relationship with Him.
Jesus gave us a pattern for prayer in Matthew chapter 6. Prayer is communication with God, not for pleasing people. Prayer is also not about the particular words we use, but about our hearts. We don’t have to have eloquent prayers or have a degree in theology to pray to God. We can have confidence in our earnest prayers because God knows what we need before we even ask Him.
As children of God, Christians have a special relationship with God. It’s not that God doesn’t hear everyone’s prayers - He does. Through our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal savior, we have intimate access to the Father.
Prayer impacts our lives so much that I believe it’s important to practice the presence of God. Constant prayer fosters our intimate relationship with Him. We should prioritize prayer, seeking God's help in all aspects of our lives and pray throughout each day, recognizing God's presence and guidance. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-2
We have the privilege of carrying everything to God in prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to pray about everything and seek God's peace. In fact, when we start to worry about anything, that should be our cue to pray.
Bringing our burdens to God doesn’t mean that He will answer our prayers the way we want. God can say "yes," "no," or "wait" to our prayers. Ultimately, God provides the relief and care that He knows we need. It is a relief to know that I can give my concerns to God, the only One who is able to carry the weight of all of my burdens and yours too.

Intellectually, we understand that it’s better to obey God rather than do our own thing. However, we still turn from God to go our own way. Why is that? This podcast episode is based on 1 Samuel 15. Can we please God with our sacrifices despite our disobedience to him? Let’s find out.
In 1 Samuel 15, Saul disobeyed God's command to destroy everything and kept the best of the spoils. This led to God rejecting him as king. Saul made excuses for disobeying God and blamed the people for his mistakes. Samuel rebuked Saul for prioritizing his own desires over God's commands. Samuel emphasizes, “obedience is better than sacrifice,” highlighting the importance of listening to God. Saul admits his mistakes and acknowledges he has not obeyed the Lord, but there are consequences to his disobedience.
It’s easy to see Saul’s mistakes, but we can be like Saul. What things are we “sacrificing” to God while also disobeying Him? Let’s go beyond our sacrifices to the Lord and obey God's Word in our daily lives. If you need to, pray for God to reveal areas of disobedience in your life. Humbley confess your sins to God and turn to Him. God receives and desires intimate fellowship with His children.

We can walk through Matthew 6:25-34 and find encouragement. Let’s examine this text and learn how to trust God, rather than relying solely on external factors like jobs or bank accounts. In this passage, we can see God's provision and that we are more valuable to Him than we realize.
We can also find encouragement in Philippians 4:4-7. This passage helps us rejoice and trust in God's provision. I find it comforting to know that we can submit our requests to God with thanksgiving, rather than worrying or relying on personal ability or wealth. We can look to Paul as an example. Paul shares his personal experience of learning to be content in all situations, trusting in God's faithfulness (Philippians 4:10-13).

Simply stated, yes, I love God.
The reason I can be confident in my answer is found in Matthew 22:34-40 and Luke 10:25-28. Jesus emphasizes the importance of loving God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Loving God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength is the greatest commandment and brings satisfaction and glory to God.
So I aspire to love God with everything within me. Am I perfect at this? No. But that is my ultimate goal.
Loving God is keeping His commandments. I can’t do this on my own. To live for God with everything is motivated by Christ's love and sacrifice for me. I can keep His commandments without burden. I want to love God more than anything else in this life.
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” John 14:15
Likewise, how much does God love me? “...but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) God demonstrated His love through Christ's death for our sins, and we are children of God when we trust that Jesus Christ died for us.
I want to love God with everything within me. I have shortcomings, but I know I can depend on God's grace and kindness poured out on me.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we have been rescued from darkness and transferred into the kingdom of God (Colossians 1:13-14). Before we were saved, we were lost and separated from God. Instead of flirting with worldly things, look to Christ for rescue and deliverance from sin's dominion.

We have salvation and a new identity in Christ. Salvation rescues us from sin, guilt, and shame, and brings us into a new kingdom of light and love. Recognize your new identity as part of God's kingdom. Live differently, empowered by God's Holy Spirit.
For me, changing the music I listen to has helped me to focus more on the Lord. I believe consuming music that aligns with our beliefs and values is important. I want to periodically share my playlist with you, to encourage you and give you some godly music options.
One of my favorite songs is by the band Rend Collective that resonates with the idea of Christ rescuing us from darkness. The song "Rescuer" has lyrics about forgiveness through Jesus Christ, emphasizing grace and redemption. Jesus Christ is the good news. He is the good news for the captive, the shameful, and the doubting. It is an invitation to all to trust Christ for redemption.

What goes in often is what comes out. I believe that what we immerse ourselves in, is what will come out in our daily lives. Whatever we listen to, watch, or read becomes the background for how we live. I think this is very apparent with music. For better or worse, music can be transformative and it can shape our thoughts and beliefs.
We primarily listen to Christian music in our home, but that wasn’t always the case with me. I listend to a lot of secular rap music growing up and it had an impact on me. The music I listened to was trying to conform me to worldly values instead of God’s standard. Romans 12:1-2 emphasizes the importance of not conforming to the world's standards but being transformed by the renewing of our minds. So I gave up secular music for the most part. I have a much better playlist than I used to.
My perspective on music has changed since becoming saved. I find joy in uplifting lyrics that bring me closer to God. There is a difference between positive, uplifting Christian music and secular music. I recognize that some secular music may have a good beat, but a lot of it says things that are against God's will. I don’t want music to transform me into anything other than what is glorifying to God.
I try to help students think critically about what they are listening by asking them questions about it. I’ll ask them to read the words out loud and they won’t want to. That is very telling to me and to them as well. Even if they don’t change their music choices now, I hope that getting them to think about it will help them make changes to what they choose to consume.
There is joy and freedom in reveling in what is good and good things only come from God. There is beauty in following Christ and living how God wants us to live. In order to do this, we must prioritize time with God, even if it means “sacrificing” the things we consume. To know Christ deeply means having a relationship with Him and the music we listen to can impact that relationship.
“...that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death…” Philippians 3:10
I want to encourage you to know Christ more through the music you listen to (of course, read your Bible too). Find transformation through music. Choose to listen to biblical and uplifting music. Listen for theological truth and inspiration. Renew your mind through worship music.
Seek God's goodness and faithfulness throughout your life, using music to worship and encourage others. Share your playlist with friends and family. Inspire and uplift them with redeeming music. Value the things that elevate and reflect God's goodness. Consider your own playlist and whether the songs are drawing you closer to God or further away.

An old Vlog that Sophia did, reminded me that we should always do this: consider others. She was cute in that old video sharing that we should be kind and polite. Consider others means to consider other people’s needs before your own. When I speak in schools, the Consider Others Campaign is an anti-bullying program that encourages students to consider other people.

We need to consider others because Jesus did. He is our ultimate role model. In Philippians 2:1-11, Jesus is the example of considering others more significant than ourselves. This encourages believers to have the same mind, love, and interests as Christ, for the unity of the body of Christ. According to this Scripture passage, humility and serving others brings joy and fulfillment. Christ is our perfect example of how we should live our lives with other people.
The importance of humility and serving others can be very apparent in the marriage relationship. You can’t be selfish in marriage and have it work out very well. There must be mutual consideration in any relationship if we expect it to thrive. Ephesians 5:25-33 reminds us that husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the church.
Jesus was humble. He was willing to serve and be obedient to the point of death on the cross. We also must humble ourselves, even if it means taking the lowest seat or serving others, as Jesus did. As shown in Philippians 2:1-11, humble yourself and put others' needs before your own. Consider others.

It is vitally important to trust in God's wisdom and guidance. Trusting God is transformative. Self-care is important, but life is not all about you. Of course, we don’t want to take this to extremes. We do need to take care of ourselves, but not at the expense of our relationship to Jesus and others. Even Jesus took time to be alone with the Father. There is a balance between serving others and taking care of yourself.

This balance of serving others and taking care of yourself was very apparent to me when I recently preached several times one Sunday at my church. Not only was preaching three services in a row a lot of speaking, it’s mentally taxing because the burden of delivering God’s Word well is upon you. You don’t want to mess up or say something wrong or not be clear and then confuse someone.
I have a new appreciation for what pastors do every weekend and it reminds me even more that the preaching is not about them and it’s not about me either. Rather than focusing on external validation for whether or not the preaching went well, we need to seek validation from God. If we are faithful to God’s Word and sharing it with wisdom, grace, and humility and trust that God will do what He wants with it. God can share however He sees fit and we can be assured in that.
I think we look for four things: acknowledgement, acceptance, approval, and affirmation. We want to be acknowledged by others and to know that we matter. We want to know if we will fit in and if people will like us. And we want to know if we are doing well.
These are not inherently bad things to want. The problem is when we seek these things from the wrong places. We must seek validation from God and not from others. We may never face persecution as Stephen did (Acts 6 - 7), but we are called to live for our faith. To live for the One who died for us (2 Corinthians 5:14-15). That will mean recognizing that as believers we have been rescued from sin. That will lead us to want to live for God.
You Don’t Have to Answer the Door!
God saved me from sin and from myself. I could not stand against temptation and sin without the strength of Christ. As Paul spoke about in Romans 7, “For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.” Understanding our identity in Christ can change our perspective on sin and living for Jesus. We can face persecution or temptation with the strength of Christ.

Sin changed our relationship with God and Christ's death changed everything again. Romans 5:12-17 teaches that Jesus' sacrifice changed everything, offering eternal life through His life. We have a new identity as a saint through the work of Jesus Christ. Understanding this will transform the way you relate to sin.
Read Romans 6:1-14 to learn how to live out your new life in Christ, free from sin's power.
Paul explains that baptism is a symbol of death and resurrection with Christ. Our old self was crucified with Christ. As believers, the power of sin has been broken, and we are now free from enslavement to it. Belief in Christ's resurrection guarantees our own resurrection and new life, as we are united with Him. We can now consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. We have new life in Christ.
Through salvation, we are empowered to say no to sin. We are dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Temptation can lead us to long for the past instead of remembering who we are in Christ. But I want to encourage you to meditate on Romans 6 to understand your identity in Christ, the work He did on the cross, and to know you no longer have to answer the door for sin.

Paul reminds us of the Gospel he preached and encourages us to hold fast to the Word to be saved. He emphasizes the importance of trusting in Christ's work, rather than relying on any personal merit or works, in order to be saved. We cannot do anything. Christ did the work of salvation. He suffered and died for our sins, and then rose again.
We must understand the bad news before we can appreciate the good news. God created humans in His image, but sin separates us from God. Sin is rejecting God and the world He created. Christ died for us to restore our relationship with God. Christ died for our sins and paid the penalty, and the resurrection is proof of God's acceptance of that payment. We can now rest in the finished work of Christ.

I have often spoken of doing my PB&J: prayer, reading the Bible, and journaling. I’m very consistent with prayer and Bible reading, but not always with journaling. When I am consistent in journaling, I notice certain themes or topics will keep coming up. I think there is so much value in re-hearing and re-learning spiritual truths through journaling. I think we sometimes need to revisit the same concepts multiple times before fully grasping them.
I have been re-hearing that God is faithful (2 Timothy 2:13), despite our lack of faithfulness. I find comfort in God's unchanging nature and love. Even when we are faithful in our work, we won’t always see the results. But God is faithful and we can be assured of that.
Speaking of God’s faithfulness, I was recently part of a surprise baptism. It wasn’t a surprise to the person being baptized nor was it a surprise to the congregation. It was a surprise to me because this little girl from my Sunday school class asked me to baptize her that Sunday morning. Because I was teaching Sunday school that day, all of my students and even older kids from youth group were able to come into the auditorium to watch this little girl be baptized.
Not only was the baptism an awesome way of seeing God’s faithfulness through this little girl’s life. It was amazing to see the whole church body come together to celebrate her public declaration of faith. Following the baptism, I was able to talk to my students about it and explain to them what baptism means. God truly is faithful to give us the wonderful opportunity to connect as a church family, celebrate new life in Christ, and learn more about Him.
God has creative ways of showing us His faithfulness. Acts 4 stands out to me for many reasons, but one being from the first time I heard it preached. I initially judged the preacher based on his appearance and stuttering. His sermon on Acts 4 impacted my life. Any time I hear God’s Word being preached or taught, I now prioritize opening myself up to God's Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide me. God taught me to stop judging and trust in His ability to speak through anyone.
Acts 4:1-22 is about the courage of Peter and John to share the good news of Jesus Christ even though they were “uneducated.” Despite this, Peter and John were articulate, showing the “educated” crowd that they had been with Jesus and under his teaching. Peter and John were different and it showed.
Christians are like Peter and John in this: we are different from the rest of the world. We stand out when we spend time with Jesus. When we believe that Jesus Christ paid our sin debt on the cross and rose again, we are a new creation. That makes believers different from the world.

Proclaim Ministries is built on helping people connect faith and life. What does it mean to connect faith and life? I believe it means to live in a way where your faith is influencing your life, not the other way around.
I grew up in church but didn't always have a heart for God until I learned to live out my faith in every area of my life. I believe it’s important to live a life that is informed by our faith, rather than simply going through the motions of religious practices without a deeper connection to God.
Our faith and our lives must be built on the foundation of God’s truth. Some may understand this to be practicing the presence of God in our lives, “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11
Understand that God is always with us, everywhere we go. We must change our mindsets and hearts to reflect this truth, recognizing that God has always existed. This understanding can shape the views we have of ourselves and our purpose in life.
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” John 16:13

People often have distorted views of God, oversimplifying or exaggerating certain characteristics. The attributes of God are things that are true about Him. Understanding God's attributes, such as His omnipresence, sovereignty, and immutability, impacts our relationship with Him.
We can only better understand God’s attributes when we seek to know Him more. God has revealed himself to us and we can learn more about Him. Connecting faith and life is seeking to know God better and living to please Him as much as possible and understanding His constant presence.
A.W. Tozer's book "The Knowledge of the Holy" highlights the importance of elevating and purifying our thoughts of God, as well as magnifying our view of Him. Psalm 139 gives us many examples of God’s attributes that we can reflect on.

Rely on God's presence in your daily life and seek to live for Him by connecting faith and life.

I used to be very impulsive in speech and in action. I was so impulsive that as a young adult, I put cake in a girl's face at a birthday party and it did not go over well.
I can still be impulsive at times and say things I don’t mean to. However, I have learned to restrain myself more through prayer and self-reflection. Psalm 19:13-14 has helped me tremendously in doing this and I hope it inspires you as well.
“Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” - Psalm 19:13-14
I was convicted in my life over the things I would watch on t.v. After a long day, I would unwind by watching vile things. From crime shows to other violent t.v. content, I started to recognize the negative impact it had on my mind. I’m not perfect, but now I desire to be more mindful of what I consume.
Negativity can become a form of meditation. What comes into our minds and our hearts, we dwell on. I don’t want to dwell on the negative. I want to meditate more on God and His Word, God’s presence and His ways. It is when we consume more of God, that God can keep us from our presumptuous sins, and the words of our mouths and the mediations of our hearts can be acceptable in His sight.

We all have things we worry about. Worrying seems to come naturally to many of us. I want to encourage you to stop worrying and instead focus on what Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:25-34 and Philippians 4:6-7. These verses help with our perspective. When God provides for birds without human effort, then He most definitely will provide for us
God is sovereign, omniscient, and omnipotent. He revealed Himself through creation, the Bible, and Jesus Christ, and it's crucial to understand His nature. Seek God's kingdom and righteousness, and trust that He will take care of other things. One way you can do this is to focus on your daily tasks and work as a way to honor God, rather than worrying about the future.
In Philippians 4:6-7, Paul advises against worrying and instead encourages prayer and thanksgiving. Maybe, as I do, you struggle with prayer, patience, and trust that God will do what He says He will do. You can find comfort in bringing your requests to God with thanksgiving. God promises in verse 7 to guard your hearts and minds with peace.
Difficult times can be the most challenging to our faith and commitment to God. I lost my mom to cancer and it was a very difficult time for me. But I knew during that time it was so important to trust in God's faithfulness and to prioritize being with God in His Word and in prayer. It didn’t make the pain of losing my mom go away, but it made it something I could walk through in the peace and comfort God provided.
I hope you will find comfort in knowing that you don’t have to struggle with worrying alone. Bring your worries and concerns to God. He is big enough to take them.

Do you want to be caught doing this? Being faithful? Hopefully, the answer is yes.
“This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4:1-2.
We are responsible for something greater than ourselves - to be found faithful and being servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Everything we have comes from God and should be used to glorify Him. So be faithful stewards of your talents, abilities, and lives, and do everything to the glory of God.
We should be using the unique skills and abilities God has given us, but it’s important to be doing what God has called us to do, rather than trying to please others. Focus on pleasing God rather than people, as God's approval is the ultimate goal.
Be faithful in serving God, rather than pleasing people. Ask God what you are called to do, rather than taking on too many responsibilities in church. We also have the opportunity to represent Christ in everyday life, even in secular jobs. Be faithful and let your light shine there also. Being a believer doesn't mean only sharing faith in specific settings, but living it out in all areas of your life.

It is important to be doers of God's word, not just hearers who deceive ourselves (James 1:22). This verse helps me reflect on my own self-deception and the need for humility, considering others more important than myself (Philippians 2:3-4). We can get caught up in comparing ourselves to others, but what is the right standard? Not ourselves, but God. Self-deception is the worst deception. We must seek God's examination of our hearts, and ask God to search our hearts to reveal deception. So be doers of the word, not just hearers.

Music's role in your spiritual journey:
In today's podcast, I reflect on the role of music in the spiritual journey, including the impact of secular music on one's faith and worldview. In the past, I lived a compartmentalized life, where I was one way at church, home, and school, and another way through secular music and television consumption. Secular music had a negative impact on my worldview and values, but God intervened in my life to help me see the truth and make a change.
Christian rap and theology:
It's important to be thoughtful about the lyrics and messages in the music we listen to. Today, I prefer Christian rap to other forms of music. It's important to understand the context and message of music and to be mindful of what it is saying about our world, ourselves, and our God. One of my favorite Christian hip-hop artists is Shai Linne. In this podcast, I share a snippet of his song "Doxology" from the album "Lyrical Theology." I like his explanation of the connection between theology and doxology. Doxology, the expression of praise to God, is the ultimate goal of theology. A dead orthodoxy without praise is meaningless.
Worship is more than just singing. Know who you are worshipping when you sing and praise God. The lyrics matter. Are you singing about yourself or God?

Kids Ministry is important and I'm not here to bash it. However, as a body of Christians, I think we are lacking in discipling parents to teach their own kids and in training teachers to teach kids. I want to challenge ALL of us to build up the body of Christ.

Investing in kids ministry is so important. It’s important to teach kids the Word of God and churches should prioritize this in their ministry. But how churches prioritize Kids Ministry is also important. It’s not just about churches teaching kids, but about churches discipling parents to teach their own kids the Word of God.
There are negative cultural influences on kids and the church needs to protect and disciple them. But more than that, churches should be equipping parents to disciple their children, rather than relying solely on the church.
Church leadership should also prioritize teaching children Biblically sound messages and vetting those who teach kids. This is equipping the saints for ministry, not just relying on pastors and teachers to do all the work.
The church can certainly provide materials and teaching that supports the spiritual growth of children. An emphasis on basic biblical doctrine, such as who God is and the character of God, will help kids understand and grow in their faith. These truths will help parents as well.
Parents also need to take responsibility for teaching their children about God, rather than only relying on the church or Sunday school to do so

God has given us life. It's reasonable to live it for Him.
It is our "reasonable service” to live for the One who made us. Giving back one's life to God is an act of worship. It is our responsibility to abide in Christ and be transformed by Him, rather than conform to the world. We avoid conforming to the world's way of thinking by instead transforming our minds through the renewal of God's Word.
Jesus teaches followers to live according to God's word, not the world's system. God showed his love through Christ's death for sinners. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 states that Christ's death and resurrection make it reasonable for believers to no longer live for themselves, but for Him who gave His life for our sake.

Are you lazy and undisciplined? I have come to realize that I can be lazy and undisciplined, despite getting a lot done. What do I mean by this?
I tend to become undisciplined in various areas of life, such as TV watching, eating, and exercising. I want to be more intentional with my time, but I am tempted to lean into laziness. TV and food aren’t bad things in themselves. They are neutral. It’s how we consume TV and food that makes them positive or negative.
For example, I find myself watching too much television and YouTube without thinking about how it’s impacting my mind. I think this is being lazy and undisciplined in my mind. Philippians 4:8 is a great prescription for what we can meditate on, think about, and measure in our media consumption and other areas of our lives.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8
I want to be a "Psalms 112 Man" and practice focusing on positive habits. I encourage you to examine your own mind and thoughts. Consider what you are thinking about and planting in your mental soil. Are you living with purpose and to glorify God? Are you disciplining your mind and your body to live a godly life? Just like athletes train for a purpose, let us emphasize self-control and discipline in our spiritual journeys.
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
“Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. "Forgive those who hurt you or your hurt may never end." Forgiveness is so important because we receive it from Jesus Christ and we should be giving it to those around us. Forgiveness is not saying what someone did is "okay." If someone put a burning brick in your hand, you are not going to hold on to it; you are going to let it go so it doesn't continue to hurt you. Forgiveness works in the same way.
I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to be in proximity to students and be salt and light to them. It is so important for us as believers to be in proximity to unbelievers. How are they ever going to know the Word of God if believers are not in proximity with them?

What is the gospel? How do we share it? How do people receive it?
The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ came to die for our sins! As it says in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, “… Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” The message of the gospel is one that calls for a response. You either receive Christ or you reject Christ, there is no in-between. You don’t have to pray a special, perfect-worded prayer; it is about trusting in Christ, placing your faith in Him, and accepting the gift of salvation through Christ Jesus.
When someone gives you a gift, when does it actually become yours? When they buy it? When they wrap it? When they present it to you? No, a gift actually becomes yours when you receive the gift. As it says in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The message of the gospel is the good news that Christ died for our sins. His sacrifice made the gift of salvation possible.

What is our role as parents? How are we to handle our concerns for our kid’s spiritual health? How should we respond to the shooting in Uvalde, Texas? God calls us to pray. To pray for our world, to pray for people to be saved, and to pray for those grieving. The Bible says to “weep with those who weep." (Romans 12:15)
My advice would be to stop pointing fingers, pray, and ask God “what is mine to do?” What is it that He wants us to do?

Is 4 hours a day enough time in the Word of God? Is 20 minutes a day enough time? How much time is enough to spend in the Word of God? Building a foundation of faith comes from reading the Bible, so we should do it daily, period.

How do we expect unbelievers to believe the Bible if they don't have true life? 2 Corinthians 4:1-6 says that only belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior brings life. Ephesians 2:1-10 talks about how we are all dead in sin before we know and recognize Christ.

Does legislation have the power to change people's lives or does the Gospel? Legislation might change some lives, but only the Gospel has the power to change lives forever. We get caught up in the issues of the day and forget that the Gospel message has the power to change people's lives for eternity. Trusting Jesus Christ as your savior transforms you. Our world can't be transformed without Jesus. If you believe in the power of the Gospel, how does that change your approach to racism, justice, gender, or abortion? Tell me about it.

We leave people empty when we argue cultural issues without boldly preaching the Gospel. The cancel culture phenomenon may try to stop the truth from being told, but Christians can be bold with the truth of God's Word. God created all. God set the standard for living. What does it mean to walk in wisdom? As Christians, it means being led by the Holy Spirit in all that we do and say. It means seasoning our words with salt - using our words in ways that others will be willing to listen. It is being gracious toward people who don't understand what we do. Bringing the truth to people requires compassion, not beating them with our words.
