The next day, the owner of the knife - who is also the hottest new chef in that hottest new restaurant - wants to hire the duo to find her knife, which she claims was stolen. Had it been stolen, or was that just a story? If it's a story, who else could have done it - and why? It's up to Eddie, Susie, their pal Lieutenant Hadley and his new assistant to figure it all out .

Meanwhile, Eddie gets a case of his own - more break-ins, this time in an office building that houses several important agents and attorneys. Only office supplies have been stolen so far, but threats of worse have been left with each victim. It all seems trivial until someone dies under very mysterious circumstances. The gang is perplexed by the coded message found in the fake coin. What could that seemingly random cluster of letters and numbers mean? Barney and Russell volunteer to return to The Glass Slipper, in hopes there is an overlooked clue there. Sure enough, they find one, but it's not at all what they expected, and generates more questions than answers. Meanwhile, Jack, Roberta and Millie investigate the late Paul Becker's office. They find something unexpected as well - positive proof as to who killed Walt Huffman.

Will's brother, Lieutenant George Ruby of the Los Angeles Police Department Homicide Division, is very stressed. He's the chairman of the LAPD's annual fundraiser for underprivileged youth. The event, a costume ball with a star-studded guest list, has to be a success for the Commissioner. The last thing George needs is a murder in the middle of the event, but he gets one - and the victim is the Commissioner's wife. Why? Who? How? Will and Frankie jump in to assist, but the answers are more complicated than George can imagine.
