The last few weeks we've been doing a deep dive on the core values and practices of Servants of Christ. This week Fr. David Trautman teaches on and exhorts us to prayer.
The last few sentences of his sermon were lost on the recording due to technical difficulties, but we have provided a transcript of his last few paragraphs for your convenience below so you don't miss his closing thoughts.
I want to close with three practical tips from Nicky Gumbel.
Keep it real.
Be honest. Be vulnerable with God. Say what’s on your heart. He doesn’t want to hear about what you think ought to be in you; he wants to hear what is really in us.
Keep it simple.
Jesus cautions us: “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” (Matthew 6:7–8) If you don’t have a regular practice of prayer, start small & simple. Don’t try to become an intercessory prayer monk warrior overnight.
Keep it up.
As I said at the beginning, prayer is hard. But after 25 years, I am so glad that I have kept at it. I have a long way to go. But I think of all the people I have seen healed over the past 25 years. All the marriages restored. All the people set free from addiction. Prayer has had a profound effect on my life. Martin Luther once said, “No one can believe how powerful prayer is and what it can effect, except those who have learned it by experience.” I invite you to experience the power and effectiveness of prayer in your life. Amen.

Bob Woods served as Communications Manager at City of Gainesville for 20 years before retiring in October 2018. Bob has a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Columbia College and a Master’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Missouri at Columbia, and completed doctoral coursework in Mass Communications. Bob answered the call to become a minister in 2014, while working full-time for the City of Gainesville. In retirement, Bob’s days are filled with working for the ministry and serving as the Head Elder at Compassionate Outreach Ministries. He hosts a Sunday morning internet radio show “Sunday School before Sunday School” at 8:00 am every Sunday morning. He also hosts a mid-week Bible study internet radio show for that mid-week jolt of the Word of God, needed to get listeners over the mid-week slump. Bob and his devoted wife Karen serve as Coordinators of the C.O.M. Marriage Ministry, Sunday School teachers, Bible Seminary Coordinators and Special Events Coordinators. An Army veteran, Bob is a lifelong learner and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Theology. Bob’s passion is to teach and preach the Word of God.

We have a guest preacher this Sunday, Rev. Brian Kirik.
The Rev. Brian Kirik has served the Lord as a missionary with Gospel for Asia since 1999. God has gripped his heart with Christ's compassion for the suffering and a desire to reach the countless unreached with Christ's love, especially in Asia. He is passionate about believers being equipped for fruitful ministry that impacts the world and glorifies God. Fr. Brian was ordained as a deacon in Believers Easter Church in 2005 and as a priest in 2012. He has served and taught in North America, Europe, and Asia. He currently serves as Canon to the Ordinary for the Metropolitan of Believers Eastern Church, as a leader in Gospel for Asia. He and his wife, Michelle, live in Wills Point, TX.

Our guest preacher this week is Fr. David Sandifer.
God has recently opened the door for the Rev. David Sandifer and his wife Cathie to go to the Netherlands as missionaries at Tyndale Theological Seminary (TTS). TTS seeks to help meet a vital need for Bible and ministry training for the leaders of struggling European churches. David will be teaching pastoral ministry and biblical ethics. Cathie will be focusing on homeschooling their children, Annabelle and Josiah, for the first year, but will also serve in pastoral ministry and in English language classes as opportunity arises.
David previously served as pastor of Calvary Anglican Church (now Church of Our Savior) in Jacksonville Beach. Most recently he was the pastor of St. Alban's Anglican Church in the Blue Mountains of Australia. David holds a PhD from Cambridge University, and it was there that he met Cathie. Cathie is a native of the Blue Mountains and lead the children's ministry at St. Alban's.
David enjoys reading, playing his guitar, and wrestling with his children. When Cathie isn't juggling ministry and being a mum, she loves drinking coffee, taking walks, and painting.

Once a year we have a special service of lessons (readings of Scripture) and carols (festive songs of the season). As liturgical folks, we tend not to celebrate Christmas before Christmas day, opting instead to read Scripture and sing songs that point us to the coming of the Lord, both in the past and the future. Eddie Kaufholz is a Director of Church Mobilization with International Justice Mission, a global organization that protects the poor from violence in the developing world. This role affords him the opportunity to equip churches and communities by sharing the biblical call to seek justice, introducing them to IJM’s work, and mobilizing them to engage in both local and global ministry.
In addition, Eddie is the producer and host of The New Activist, a podcast presented by International Justice Mission. This podcast is dedicated to hearing from activists and world changers who are tackling some of the planet’s biggest problems. Guests on the show have included Eugene Cho, Gungor, and Tony Hale.
As a long-time cast member on The RELEVANT Podcast, Eddie combines humor, wisdom, and pastoral perspective while engaging topics of culture and faith. He’s also interviewed some of today's most influential thinkers, pastors, and entertainers.
Combining his many years of ministry as a pastor, counselor, Young Life leader, and activist - Eddie speaks and writes on topics of faith, counseling, and justice. In all of these endeavors, Eddie’s goal is to help others know that they’re called to leverage their lives for the sake of other people.
Eddie received a B.S. in Family, Youth, and Community Science at the University of Florida, and earned a Masters in Counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky. He lives in Gainesville, Florida with Brianne (his wife) and Eve and Lucy (his very sweet daughters).

In 2001 Dr. Horner moved from the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture in Charlottesville, Virginia, to become the first Director of the Christian Study Center of Gainesville. Richard has his M.Div. from Covenant Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. in modern intellectual history from the University of Virginia. He has pastored churches in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Virginia and has taught as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Delaware, James Madison University, the University of Florida, and Reformed Theological Seminary. His wife April has a MS in Pyschiatric Nursing from the University of Virginia, and has served for forty years, first as a psychiatric nurse and then as a home care nurse for Haven Hospice. Richard and April have three children. Their daughter Rachel (UF 2008) and her husband Dave live in Greenville, SC, where Rachel works as an interior designer and cares for Richard and April’s two grand daughters. Their son Ken (UCF 2011) works as an engineer with Aecom in Washington DC, and their daughter Jenna (UF 2014) is well known locally as a both a mural artist and popular Yoga instructor.
