Angels have a reputation of being glorious and beautiful, but is that really the case? In today's episode, we'll be analysing several of the angels from the bible, biblical apocrypha and the classification of angels made popular by Christian mythos. When we look at the angels such as the Cherubim, Seraphim and the Ophanim, we start to realise how terrifying these creatures really are and how like us, many biblical characters also expressed the same wonder and concern. Where many angels do maintain the more humanoid appearance that we've come to expect, some of these angels look like they belong in a completely different mythology... or a horror movie.

“Mother of the Sun, Theia of many names, for your sake men honor gold as more powerful than anything else; and through the value you bestow on them, o queen, ships contending on the sea and yoked teams of horses in swift-whirling contests become marvels.” - Pindar, Fifth Isthmian

In the final section before Enoch's Parables, we take a look at the portals of heaven that Enoch sees and discuss what they might've been. In some ideas, where Enoch sees 'stars', it might be said that he was seeing 'angels' (stars being something of a metaphor for angels). With this, some have theorised that the angels used these portals as means of transport, hence why Enoch speaks of them.

It wasn’t until the seventh century do we see Lilith evolve into a more complex figure - one that wasn’t just a demonic she-beast that terrorised infants and pregnant women or who violated sleeping men. According to the Alphabet of Ben Sira, an anonymous text comprising of a compilation of several proverbs and an accompanying commentary, Lilith wasn’t just a tantalising temptress or a nocturnal nemesis… she was in actuality, the first wife of Adam. By the end of Ben Sira's tale, we find Lilith has metamorphized into something sinister - an enemy of man and a mother of demons.

amigina, the Fourth Spirit found in the Lesser Key of Solomon breaks the reptilian trend that we’ve seen thus far in the previous two entries of Agares and Vassago. However, Samigina - or ‘Gamigin’ as he’s also known, does not break the trend of demons appearing in the form of animals and like his demonic compatriots, Samigina is also known to appear as a man. As the fourth spirit in the Lesser Key of Solomon, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Samigina had some grand importance, given that we’ve seen Bael the King, Agares the Duke and Vassago the Prince in the series so far. But Samigina appears to be little more than a footnote in demonology given his realm of influence as a horse and the lack of presence he has in literature. At best, he is a nobleman - or a marquis, one who according to some European countries would rank him above a count, but below a duke.
