I am here to empower moms to shift their mindset and start living a more sustainable life. Tune in to discussions about sustainability, motherhood, and intentional living.
HI guys! I know it's been a minute. In this episode, I give a little update about the podcast hiatus and then talk about the ideas that can hold us back with sustainable living, and how to shift that mindset and lift those blocks that are holding us back from making changes and being inspired.
Okay, so maybe not really a love letter... More of a "hi, I come in peace, let's sit on this mossy log in the forest and talk for a bit"... but... in a friendly, cottage-core kinda way, and not an edward cullen kinda way. Bottom line, in this episode I talk about a disconnect that I see a lot of people in society having- people that care about the earth and slow living, but simultaneously question the climate change movement or environmental sustainability. If that's you, come have a listen. ( And if that's not you, still give it a listen and I bet you'll be nodding your head and clapping the whole episode.)
Have you heard about the killer whales out there attacking boats, seemingly for revenge? Because I hadn't up until this week. Apparently, there's a very specific group of Orcas in the Straight of Gibraltar that have learned a concerning trait: how to attack boats. Listen to this week's episode to get the 411 on this phenomenon.
Feeling like you're overwhelmed lately, and falling into the cycle of buying more and more sh*t? Cause same. In this episode, I talk about the mindset shift when it comes to sustainable living that's helped give me a light bulb moment lately when it comes to consumption. and 3 tips that have helped me yank myself back from that cycle of overconsuming.
Have a question I can help with, or have a message you think could really help my listeners? Shoot me an email over at unrootedmama@gmail.com ! I would love to hear from you. :)
I know, I know. You might be rolling your eyes. But making your life feel happy and sparkly and romantic and beautiful... is sometime just what the doctor ordered, you know? If you've been looking for that extra sparkle lately (or even if you haven't been looking for it and now you're like... hmmm... okay yes), look no further, friend. Here are 6 ways you can start romanticizing the heck out of your life, starting today. (PS... this is something I feel strongly about, and end up saying the F word a lot in this episode. So, if you're listening around little ears, grab your headphones :) )
Anyone else feeling so weird lately? Burnt out, mental fog, just overall... foggy? disassociated? It's hard to describe, but such a weird not great feeling and head space. I've recently had a light bulb moment that caused big shifts in my perception and overall understanding of my burnout and mental fatigue.... rest. Or, should I say, the lack thereof. Think for a sec: when was the last time you allowed yourself to rest? And I don't mean sleep, I mean like... sitting down and doing something that doesn't require a lot of mental or physical energy. Something where you can just shut your brain off and let your body and mind both really chill for a bit.
Listen to this episode to hear about prioritizing rest, why it's so important, and what it could shift in your life.
Ever catch yourself in that social media comparison trap? Cause... same. It's such a big problem for so many of us, and to make matters worse, we hear things like "the grass is greener where you water it!" AKA... don't be jealous about that mom's amazing house, all her cool DIYs, or amazing things she cooks, instead... just go do all of that work too, on top of whatever else you're busy with.
To me? this puts us in even worse of a headspace. So instead, today, I am presenting you with the mindset shift... Maybe the grass isn't greener on the other side because it's being watered. Maybe it's because it's being taken care of by grass enthusiasts who spend 90% of their free time researching, caring for, and maintaining their amazing grass.
And guess what? It's okay if you don't have that time to give your grass right now. It's okay to just admire your neighbors grass and just focus on your family and the inside of your house, ya know? Then one day, when you're ready to add another thing to your plate, we can walk to the neighbor's house together and ask for some tips. But... until then, you're juggling enough plates as it is- it's okay to let that weight fall off your shoulders for awhile.

Let's talk about the environmental issue that has taken social media by storm this week... The Willow Project.

This past week, a train derailed in a small town in Ohio. This train was carrying loads of hazardous materials, which resulted in evacuations, controlled burns, and countless environmental impacts. Let's talk about it- how this happened, what chemicals were leaked into local ecosystems, and what this could mean for the future of this small town.
WOOOO EPISODE 100!! For this special episode, I talk about the 3 biggest lessons I've learned in the past 3 years of my sustainable living journey.
I also announce some exciting things about the future of the podcast!
When it comes to sustainability, we all hope that while we make changes in our lives, world leaders will make the necessary changes to help our Earth as well. the COP summits are just one avenue in which people come together with the goal to help fight climate change. Find yourself stressing around the holidays? More specifically, stressing about... stuff?? In this episode, I talk about ways we can minimize before and during the holiday season to rid our spaces of some clutter and take some stress off our plates.
The holidays can be hard, but it's proven that clutter in our home makes us even more stressed. So press play on this episode, grab a trash bag, and let's get minimizing!
Happy December!!! Now that Christmas is right around the corner, let's talk about a few ways we can shift our mindset and make small changes this holiday season that will add up and help us lower our environmental impact.
I know for me in this busy season of Motherhood, night time is me time. That used to look like me sitting and scrolling social media until I couldn't keep my eyes open any more. And while there's nothing wrong with that, it just was not at all worth the sleep I was losing. So, I decided to start making a plan for intentional evenings. In this episode, I share with you how you can make your evening routine work FOR you, help future you, and give yourself relax and much needed rejuvenation time all at the same time.
The kitchen is often a place that's centralized to the home. If you're anything like me, then without even realizing it, it's a place that we probably spend a good amount of our time during the days. That's why it can be so crucial to have some eco-friendly tools and hacks to use in the kitchen. Even in periods of extreme business or burnout, the sustainable systems I've put into our routine in the kitchen stay strong, allowing me to still live eco-friendly without having to put in any extra effort. Listen to this episode to hear 6 of my favorite and most impactful eco-friendly kitchen hacks! Mentioned in this episode: Stasher Bags affiliate link

To some, intentional living probably sounds boring or monotonous- following schedules, plans, lists for everything, and always moving with purpose. To others, the life of constantly going with the flow sounds scary and tumultuous. Lately, I've been learning how to balance intentional living with the fun and spontaneous side of life as well. Both are really important (at least for myself) when it comes to living a fulfilling life. Listen to today's episode to hear about ways I've been incorporating and prioritizing both, and how you can find the balance between the two for a happier life.

Balloons and goody bags and plastic crap everywhere at the end, oh my! Often times, what starts out as celebrating our sweet kiddos special days can turn into a giant mosh pit of trash, excess waste, and a crap ton for us to clean up after at the end. Have you ever wondered if there's a way to make your kid feel special and magical on their day without all the waste? (And no, I don't mean nix the party altogether and take them somewhere cool, although that's not a bad idea either.) In this episode, I share 7 tips that can help you host a more eco-friendly birthday party- while still keeping the decorations, fun stuff, yummy food, and magical memories.

"Are you sleeping when the baby sleeps?" "Is the baby sleeping through the night yet?" "You'll miss this one day!" .... what about, "You just created a whole human and went through a huge life change, how's your mental health doing?" Anyone else have a super... weird August? Because I felt like a walking zombie for a good majority of it. In this episode, I talk about reflecting on the past month in order to take care of yourself better moving forward. I help you figure out how to write out a little self care plan for the month of september, and tell you what's on mine in case you need ideas. Listen and dive in with me! (and if you're listening to this and it's NOT september, thats ok too :) )
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with showering and shopping. But the idea that moms should accept that taking showers and grocery shopping (both human necessities honestly) are the only "self care" time we get is abhorrent. In this episode, I talk about how REAL deep self care is something that's often neglected within motherhood (and adulthood in general), and how we can reframe our thinking surrounding self care in order to prioritize self care. I also give some examples and ideas for self care for moms- or at least some that work for me.
It's miserable and magical, oh yeah! Honestly it was astounding to see the list of the top celebrity CO2 emitters that was published by Yard (link below) earlier this week. Sometimes all I think about is the fact that our temperatures are increasing and the world is on fire and there are still climate change deniers out there LOL. Just kidding just kidding- on a serious note though, these heat waves happening all over the globe are a pretty alarming thing and also a little bit of an insight on what the future of our planet could look like if big changes aren't made. Listen to this episode to hear a little bit about what's going on in our world right now, and what we can do to take action against climate change.

Let's talk about the elephant in the room... and by that I mean the ones hiding on your bathroom counter, under your kitchen sink, in your laundry, and just sprinkled all around the house. Lot's of little elephants hiding in plain sight. gasp TOXINS. I know, I know, cue the eyeroll. For real though, there are a lot of common household items that are known to be toxic to humans, yet companies are still putting them on the shelves everywhere marketing them as fine, safe, normal everyday items. In this episode, I dive into some common household toxins and share 5 of them you can ditch and switch out with something a little less.... toxic.

Have you ever went through a stressful time in life (maybe a big transition like moving, traveling, or just a hard period in life), and then you came out of the other side... still stressed? Like PHYSICALLY you weren't in the "stressful time" anymore, but your mindset is still stuck there? In this episode, I talk about how I've pulled myself out of that weird mindset and got back on track with intentional living.

I've heard about "perfectionism" so many times, but it never occurred to me how common it was (or the fact that yeah.... maybe I have struggled with it also). The sense of giving up when you're not great at something, the temptation to just give up when you make a misstep toward a big goal, procrastinating until the last minute out of the fear that you will mess up... if any of that sounds familiar, there's a chance you struggle with perfectionism too.
In this episode, I cover what I've learned about perfectionism and myself lately, and how I've taken control back- and how you can take control of your perfectionist thinking, too.
Ever been browsing the aisles in the store, and then find yourself surprised at how "eco" everything has gotten? "Natural", "biodegradable", "eco-friendly", "green" thrown left and right. Tree here, green font there. Are all these items REALLY eco-friendly and doing something positive for the environment? Bad news- no. Good news- there's something we can do about it.
So many companies think all consumers are mindless beings with no capability to think for themselves and make smart choices- however, by empowering ourselves, we can better understand greenwashing and how to avoid it.

"Humans are killing the planet", "humanity is destroying the planet"... pressure like the drip, drip, drip that'll never stop, amiright? But, what if I told you that sentiment was wrong- that it's not humanity itself, but instead a select few who carry most of the blame for climate change. In this episode, I dive into WHY climate change doesn't fall on your shoulders as an individual. If you're ready to alleviate some of that eco-anxiety and pressure you've been feeling, listen up, my friend.

Throughout adulthood- especially motherhood- it's so easy to lose sight of what brings you joy. Of course your kids bring you joy, and the Blippi songs that get stuck in you head, and Friday night pizza night. But what about those books you used to love reading? What about that hobby you've always wanted to try but never found time for amongst the mountains of laundry and diapers and snack grabbing 24/7 (cough, like practicing yoga or learning to make bread from scratch)? In this episode, we're getting to the nitty gritty and I'm sharing how I've been prioritizing things that bring me joy lately. Talking about the importance of planting seeds that will be cultivated in order to bring more joy and sense of purpose in your future.

Self care: we see it everywhere nowadays. From body scrubs to face masks, retail therapy to meditation- there are so many different forms of self care out there to help you feel rejuvenated and recharged from the stressors of daily life. But, so much "self care" these days is being equivalated to buying this and that, and in turn, buying into the societal norm of materialism... what if I told you, it could be so much simpler than that? That you didn't need to buy specific products in order to feel like you're taking care of yourself and "treating yourself?" While there's nothing wrong with those things, there is a HUGE correlation between nature and our mental health.
