She also has a collection of poems in English and in French – some written during more trying times that she’ll work on she feels called to do so. Sandi D. even experienced a poetry download this winter.

Dyer discusses the 7 faces to connect with intention. They include:
Dyer talks about the obstacles to connecting to intention and discusses examining your inner speech, your energy level, and your self importance.
Sandi D. focuses on Dyer’s discussion of your level of energy (pp. 68-81)
Dyer says operating at a higher frequency to raise your vibrational level to reach the highest frequency – that of the spirit of intention itself.

In this episode, Sandi D. talks about finding your je ne sais quoi or x-factor–what makes you unique and stand out.
She shares a few questions you can reflect on – journal or just think about - to help you find your je ne sais quoi.
Your ‘je ne sais quoi’ is about identifying your strengths and passions. It’s all about ease & simplicity, not over complicating life because you are born with this je ne sais quoi.
Your je ne sais quoi is what gives you swagger or pep to your step–like Michael Jackson in his moon boots back in the day.
When you find your je ne sais quoi you follow ‘the call’ and are on ‘the path’ (you can have more than one path or purpose in a lifetime).
Figuring out your ‘je ne sais quoi is about slowing down, focusing, breathing. Observe others, but don’t copy them. Adapt what works and ‘do you.’

In this episode, Sandi D. shares an important update on moving to France, creating new traditions, and a reminder this holiday season to ‘just say no.’
She shares how the vision board she created with G included photos of France and how a job in Nice, France landed in her path. Sandi D. reflects on the importance of purpose, whether it’s in the 9-5 or while building a business.
Within the first week in France, G was invited to speak at the Nice Speakers Club. Sandi talks about not cooking this Thanksgiving and instead accompanying students on a dinner. She briefly reflects on another nontraditional Thanksgiving meal she spent in a Japanese dōjō!
Managing stress and setting boundaries is particularly important during the holiday season. Saying no might disappoint others, but it opens up time to do things you truly want to do. When you say no, don’t feel pressured to justify your reason. Just say no, can’t do that. No, thank you.
Cut yourself some slack and ditch the perfectionism. New traditions could include agreeing to scale back or asking others to pitch in.
Sandi D also challenges listeners to take even just 10 minutes a day to do something for themselves.
Happy Holidays from Nice, France!

In this episode, Sandi speaks with Holly Frances, Author & Rare Illness Advocate based in Canada. She raises awareness about Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS), an autoimmune disease that affects approximately 2 out of every 100,000 people.
Holly shares her powerful and inspiring story about how she was suddenly stricken with GBS not long after giving birth to her daughter.
She lost the ability to lose her legs and arms quickly – within 72 hours she was unable to walk and even lost the ability to breath on her own. Holly was in the ICU for several months. She describes the emotional pain of being separated from her newborn daughter 3 weeks after giving birth.
After two months her condition started to slowly improve. Holly describes how meeting a GBS survivor was a turning point in helping her pull through during her healing journey.
GBS commonly is triggered by something that causes an autoimmune response, e.g., food poisoning, surgery, flu, after child birth, or other stress.
Holly shares that post-recovery flare ups can include fatigue, nerve pain and a little bit of weakness when she’s really tired. Stress, not getting enough sleep, or taking on too much work can lead to flare ups. Recognizing her body’s signals has been the key to managing and often preventing additional flare ups.
We talk about the book writing process. Holly recommends the book, Seven Drafts. She says it helps when writing an emotional memoir to ring a bell when you start writing and when done, ring the bell again to release those emotions. Some people may take a shower instead after writing to clear their energy.
Holly will be re-releasing her memoir later this year. The upcoming book will be titled Life Support. Once it’s been released, we’ll update the Show Notes!

In this episode, I interview Kathy Pettet, Spiritual/HSP Healer and Guide, Numerologist, Psychotherapist, and founder of Get Centered Counseling.
Kathy shares how she started out as a psychotherapist and expanded to add different tools and healing modalities. She helps clients discover and honor their unique soul path and life purpose through numerology and high sensory perception (HSP), or intuition.
She helps clients change their story/narrative or belief system to overcome traumatic, difficult circumstances by altering their frequency and arrive at a different conclusion about the “story” of their life.
Numerology
“The universe is geometry and math”
Kathy explains the five important numbers when she looks at a client’s numerology:
Life lesson number
Soul number
Path of destiny
Personality number
Attitude number
Numerology can help clients navigate relationships, especially parent-child relationships or compatibility with one’s partner or when dating. Kathy reviews the numerology for each partner to see their respective strengths/challenges.
Intuition & Imagination
She talks about tapping into your intuition and imagination to create the life that you desire. We talk about what blocks people from tapping into their intuition and how to change their frequency.
Living in fear, apathy, and despair lowers your frequency. Connecting with nature is one of the easiest and quickest ways to increase your frequency.
Kathy is also a hypnotherapist, EFT practitioner, Usui and Karuna Reiki Master, Ecotherapist!

In this episode, I lead you through a guided meditation to help you connect with nature. I was inspired to create this meditation for you after visiting the Arboretum today. It was a magical day--the ominous, gray skies suddenly parted and the sun emerged as I met up with my friends.
We explored new (to me) sections of the gardens and like children, delighted in smelling fresh herbs, lavender, and various pine trees. I took tons of photos of gorgeous flowers. We discovered the most beautiful tree that we were all able to fit under -- the shade canopy was so much fun--it felt like we were kids discovering a secret clubhouse!
Thanks to my friends and our visit to the Arboretum, I felt so serene and moved to create this meditation just for you. You’ll feel relaxed, refreshed, and rejuvenated after listening to it.
Connect with nature by listening while you are outside or visualizing a walk in the forest. Let this meditation fill you up with positivity and help you throughout your day!

In this episode, I’m so excited to interview jazz vocalist Changamiré, from Washington, DC.
AllAboutJazz.com has this to say about her music: "It's difficult to nail down just what makes her voice so darn compelling. Maybe it's the comfort and familiarity, maybe the confiding honesty. Whatever the case, it works exceptionally well."
We talk about how Changamiré was introduced to jazz, how she chose her stage name, and learn more about when she found her voice and pursued her passion. She gives guidance to other creatives and entrepreneurs who may be juggling a 9 to 5 and working towards their dreams.
Artists and musicians have particularly been hard hit by the pandemic with the closure of live events and touring. We talk about how listeners can help just by adding their favorite songs to their playlists.
Changamiré is doing a special promotion to help one of her beloved causes, the Lambi Fund of Haiti. When you make a donation to the Lambi Fund , DM Changamiré your donation receipt, your postal address (anywhere in the world) and she’ll send you an “Only Human’ poster (from her album, Only Human) when you cover the postage ($8 USD). Contact Changamiré for more details.
Special thanks to Changamiré and her independent record label, Sonnig Records LLC, for giving us permission to play her song, Only Human, on this episode.

This week Sandi D. talks with Hope Reger, Founder and Facilitator of Grief 2 Hope, a virtual peer grief support group.
After the tragic loss of her son, Justin, who will be ‘forever 19,’ Hope made the decision to honor his memory by helping others who have lost loved ones.
Hope radiates kindness, positivity, and love by pouring her heart into creating a supportive space for people in all stages of grief. The group meets on Zoom for 7 weeks and many participants have returned to subsequent cohorts.
We talked about how grief has no time limit and how each person's experience with grief is unique. The support sessions are centered around sharing each others' stories and respective journeys through the grieving process.
She guides the group through GRIEF by focusing on these concepts:
G = gift of time
R = receive help
I = inspiring yourself
E = managing expectations
F = feel everything
The timing of this episode seems like divine timing or serendipity. I am still a work in progress with respect to grieving the loss of my older brother who passed away due to an accident when he was 7. What resonated most about this episode was when Hope describes how grief is like a heart beat but with time, the intervals between the beats generally get longer as you move through your grief.
You'll be inspired to hear how Hope transforms dark times into light in order to help others.

This week Sandi D. talks about asking for help and how delegating tasks whether at home or on the job is an integral part of self care. She discusses how often people don’t ask for help because the inner critic or inner bully tells us (consciously or subconsciously) that we are weak or incompetent if we reach out for help.
Taking an inventory of what’s causing your stress and deciding which stressors are prime areas for reaching out for help and potentially delegating to others.
It’s important to find someone you can reach out to--whether it be a therapist, friend, spouse / partner, or even a coach. Sometimes just talking it through can help you find solutions you might not have considered.
Sandi D. shares how adopting a new puppy, Joey, reminds her of the overwhelming exhaustion and stress that new moms experience. Following her intuition as a new mom when her firstborn couldn’t sleep at night resulted in a significant medical diagnosis requiring surgery.
Sandi raises the question of (typical) American work habits as compared to what she’s observed outside the US and cites a Business Insider article that lists several habits that are not healthy for work / life balance. She talks about setting boundaries, especially between work and home life.
Article mentioned in this episode:
11 American work habits other countries avoid at all costs, Business Insider, accessed June 13, 2021.

This week Sandi D. talks about the importance of taking a break. Now that the pandemic is a little bit more under control in the US with the rollout of vaccinations to those aged 12 and over, people are starting to travel more.
Sandi D. and her family head out west to visit Colorado. The trip included lunch with friends of Sandi’s mom at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse while Sandi’s sons visited UC Boulder campus.
This trip included some unexpected pampering when Sandi has back pain due to an uncomfortable Airbnb bed. A therapeutic back massage was the perfect solution.
Sandi shares how as a mom one often spends time doing what the kids and rest of the family want to do, but she got to fit into the schedule time to explore a gemstone and crystals shop in Littleton with her partner.
One of the many stones is associated with manifestation. Coincidentally, later that night, Sandi D. was contacted by a reporter from the Washington Post asking her if she was available for an interview for an article about the pandemic.
For those with younger children, she shares that as they get older, it does get easier as she was able to drop her kids off at the light rail station and let them explore Denver city by themselves.
The return trip home involved adding a new member to the family, but the trip doesn’t go quite as planned by the recovering Type A Virgo! To see our new family member, Joey, visit our Instagram accounts.
Sandi D. shares how breathwork and listening to her POWER affirmations helped her through a stressful return trip when she missed her flight home.

This week I share an excerpt from the book, Letters to Girls Who Dream of Flying, by Ms. Shona O.L. Bramble. This book was a labor of love for Shona who published letters written by women from all walks of life asking them to reflect on their lives.
I read the letter that I wrote in the Communicators section and also listed the common themes of life struggles and challenges shared by many women. The letters also share love, light, and hope in the form of pearls of wisdom from each woman.
Of particular note, Shona Bramble is originally from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, a Caribbean multi-island nation which recently made headline news with La Soufrière’s volcanic eruption forcing at least 20,000 residents to evacuate.

This weekend Sandi D. took a writers workshop through the Writer’s Center based in Bethesda, Maryland, her old stomping ground, led by Laura Oliver, an author, developmental book editor and writing mentor.
Laura says it is easier for writers to come up with a unique voice than to come up with a unique subject. Writers usually use their natural voice when addressing someone they trust. She gave the following writing prompt during the ‘Your True Voice’ workshop:
“Begin writing a letter to someone you trust completely (dead or alive) confessing to something you long for.” It can be about anything, fame, having better hair, a different childhood.
One of the best insights Laura shared is the simplest. Writers tend to write in a natural, true voice when writing about the things they are passionate about. This is something blogging and business coach Faith Mariah says all the time in her mastermind group.
If you are interested in taking a writing workshop from the comfort of your home, the Writer’s Center in Bethesda, Maryland has writers workshops available in the virtual space.

This week Sandi D. talks with Dr. Helena Liu, a scholar based in Sydney, Australia. Her area of expertise is intersectional feminism with a focus on social justice research and education. Her newly launched blog, Disorient.co, is an invaluable resource for intersectional feminist thought, education, and activism.
This episode was recorded the week of the US presidential elections. At that time, it was expected that Biden-Harris won, but as of this episode release, #45 still has not conceded the election. Dr. Liu and I touch on systemic racism and politics in the US.
Join us and listen to this episode to find out what unfortunate event served as a catalyst for Dr. Liu’s blog.
We talk about the importance of validating one’s experience of injustice and the effects of gaslighting. For those who are not familiar with the field of intersectional racism, Dr. Liu explains in layperson’s terms how it differs from traditional feminism.

Bio: Having taught French as a second (or sometimes third) language in native communities throughout Quebec has given Isabelle an authentic connection with the First Nations. Isabelle's childhood was filled with discovering untamed forest, rivers, and retracing the footsteps of the proud nations that lived off these lands for thousands of years before her.
This episode starts out in French and transitions to English after the first question.
Introduction Summary
Sandi: Isabelle, thank you for accepting our invitation to appear on the podcast. Can you share your background with us? Where you are from, your childhood, and how you discovered your passion: writing.
Isabelle: I’m from the province of Quebec, from a beautiful region, Saguenay-Lac-Saint Jean, Quebec. Lac St. Jean is a magnificent lake north of Quebec City. This lake is my first source of inspiration. I’m from a family of artists giving me the means to express myself in many ways. My mom is an artist (painter),Hélène Beck. My father,Albert Larouche, worked for Radio Canada. This beautiful mix made into a curious girl and writer.
Sandi: I can only imagine the inspiration coming from your family and Lac St Jean.
People from Lac-St-Jean are very kind.
Isabelle: We are from a far away region, yet, we are so close to the rest of the world. [Interview continues in English]
