A couple notes off the bat. First, we had some pretty serious static for the first 5 minute or so. We got it corrected, but we promise it isn't the whole episode. Second, the first game we discuss in this podcast, Stanley: The Search for Dr. Livingston, has a great many racist tropes and art choices. We condemn these in the strongest possible terms even as we cover them for this podcast.
Alright. There. Notes are all done. It's a week of games with short and easy names:
Stanley: The Search for Dr. Livingstone
Rainbow Islands: The Story of Bubble Bauble II
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: The Manhattan Project
Galaxy 5,000: Racing in the 51st Century

Whoops, we played some games. If you listened to the 1x17 Pull episode we played some mixed games. We played Bubble Bobble which turned out to be a real caper. We played Sesame Street A-B-C because that game got the Nintendo seal of approval annoyingly. Then we played, well one of us played, WWF Wrestlemania. Kung-Fu and Werewolf rounded out that list because if you have never seen a werewolf bare chested waving an American flag with sunglasses on then you have never played NES. I said good day sir.

This week we played all the greats: Freedom Force, The Rocketeer, Magic Johnson's Fast Break, Toxic Crusader, and Defenders of Dynatron City. None of these games were great, not many of them were playable, in fact, it is week's like this that make me seriously regret ever committing to such a thing, but if you wait long enough or practice self-deceit to a really frightening level you can do anything! Let us know what you think about these truly awful games on the tweet box or the gram using the hashtag #nesessarypod and we'll tweet you back.

Hello, old friend. We meet again. Here in this wasteland of nonsense and old video games. Just remember, we love you. Whatever happens next. We. Love. You. This week, we've got: Parodius, All-Pro Basketball, Conflict, World Games, and The Legend of Prince Valiant. They are all video games. That's all we can say for sure.

Oops, we did it again. Five more games. Saddle up, buckle in, strap down your valuables, and prepare yourself for another step into the unknown. Good luck out there. You'll need it.

We play games, this time its game we don't like which isn't much of a surprise. Arkista's Ring, the indomitable Robocop 2 (twice as bad as Robocop 3), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Othello, and some notes from the road that is Might and Magic: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum. Right now, we are not prepared to reveal this secret to you. Listen along as we rag on olden games and each other.

We do it again for some reason. We gather together with spreadsheet in hand and pull 5 randomly generated games and talk about what we know of these games. There is a huge twist in this week's pull as we encounter a problem we have not planned for yet. Let us know what you think and play along using the hashtag #nesessarypod

We played Super Mario Bros 2, Wurm: Center of the Earth, Dusty Diamond's All Star Baseball, Robocop 3, and Defenders of the Crown this week which was a real mixed bag of quality of games as seems to be the refrain. This might be the pound for pound best week of games we have played yet though (taken on average score, not mean) as Super Mario Bros 2 really drags up that average. Wurm is a dark horse for a top 10 sleeper picks list. Defenders of the Crown while not a good game was at least interesting enough to play, and Dusty Diamond's All Star Baseball is one of the strangest sports games ever made which is fun in its own way. There is almost no need to mention Robocop 3 other than it is in fact a video game. Let us know what you think using the hashtag #nesessarypod on the soc meds.

Time again for another Pull Episode. In these episodes, we fire up the ol Random Number Generator - type in the parameters of such a task somewhere between 2 and 706 and we see what the universe has to offer us. We have finally gotten this episode down to its fighting weight of under 10 minutes so you can get back out there and start playing these games. We honestly have never played these games in most cases and have no idea what to expect. Every conversation you hear on this podcast is live and unrehearsed and the results are unedited and in real time. Play along with the hashtag #nesessarypod to let us know what you find.

We play through them all - the bad ones, the real bad ones, and the ones that weren't so bad. We played Pictionary (don't jump to your death over it), Captain Skyhawk (because that's a thing), Rollerblade Racer (there is no phonetical way to capture the soul burning groan I have for this game), Super Spike V'Ball (according to Josh, a true delight - a summer breeze of a video game), and Willow (still creepy after all these years). Listen in to see what these games are all about. Take part in the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #nesessarypod.

This week Josiah and Josh play through the 5 games of the week: Kid Icarus (a strange delight), Mario Bros (a game that gave me a nervous twitch), Gauntlet (I got something to say), Captain Planet and the Planeteers (they are who we thought they were), and Rush'n'Attack (I'm gonna need a knife). The magic of radio covers a multitude of sins in this episode, but there is a lot going on behind the scenes. Another week down another solid series of games - I can't wait to see what we get into this time.

What's that? On the horizon! It's the second pull episode! Prepare to be delighted (or at least entertained) as we pull another five games at random from the NES's impressive library. What exciting adventures await us? Will there be more tennis?! Also remember, we'd love for you to play along and share your experiences if you're interested!

Much like the humble Captain Napoleon in Koei's L'Empereur, Josiah and I venture out on unsteady legs to record this crazy podcast. The audio isn't the crispest it can get, we are still working on formatting and our banter but the fledgling pod gets underway. We don't even have a strong concept yet, but we recognize some true to form elements that work. This first episode documents both elements of the show - The Pull Episode and the Play Episode in one session here. Starting next week, there will be two different episodes separated by a week's time so that listeners can play along with us and listen in to hear our takes on the games played so far. The first 5 games, the inaugural bunch are pulled in this order: Dragon's Lair Flying Dragon: The Secret Scroll Jimmy Connors Tennis L'Empereur Rampart Listen along to see what we find fascinating, aggravating, and devastating about these games.

Grab it while its hot - the new episode is here - your long awaited journey has paid off. We play through 5 NES titles and riff on these strange old games. This is the first official Play episode which should establish the trend. In this week's pull episode, we drew Contra Force, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Hudson Hawk, Knight Rider, and Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom. Now let me tell you something, this was a wild week of games. Two bone-crushingly difficult games, one semi-enjoyable game, two games based on terrible source material that made less than spectacular gaming experiences. Throw in some pop culture references, two human friends struggling to find common ground in a world awash in strife and chaos, a perfect encapsulation of the nature of friendship in the digital age and the lengths two idiots will go to forge something resembling human connection, listen in as we react.

The first official pull episode is up now! We gather together in hopes of finding the best possible NES games to play in any given week and let fate decide (or the random number generator in Google) and see what happens. Josh has a spreadsheet that has all 706 games ever released for the NES with some flaws, omissions, or repeats perhaps, and we draw them one at a time and talk about our impressions of these titles. Sometimes we are wrong sometimes we are weirdly right, and most often we are surprised. This is your chance to play along with us this week and see what you think. Leave us feedback on the Blog or Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr/Facebook and let us know what you find along the way.
