Senior self-neglect has always been a concern but with the "silver tsunami" we have with such an aging nation, adult children are often in denial or just unaware how well their parents are actually doing. Corporate America is not as family friendly as it was in the past and adult children are torn between competing responsibilities--their own families, their career, their health, and aging loved ones. With families spread across the globe, aging loved ones are often left to fend for themselves and do the best they can often, they struggle daily with remembering to take their medications, being able to physically care for themselves properly, being unsafe drivers, not paying their bills on time, letting insurance policies and other bills lapse. It's time for families to learn about aging issues and why developing an aging plan and having frequent family meetings and care oversight is critical for everyone's sake.
