A sermon on unconditional love by Aaron Laird.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.

Ruth 4:14-15 (NRSV)
14 Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you this day without next-of-kin; and may his name be renowned in Israel!
15 He shall be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law who loves you, who is more to you than seven sons, has borne him.”

Ruth 3:10-11 (NRSV)
10 He said, “May you be blessed by the Lord, my daughter; this last instance of your loyalty is better than the first; you have not gone after young men, whether poor or rich.
11 And now, my daughter, do not be afraid, I will do for you all that you ask, for all the assembly of my people know that you are a worthy woman.

Ruth 2:11-12 (NRSV)
11 But Boaz answered her, “All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before.
12 May the Lord reward you for your deeds, and may you have a full reward from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge!”

Ruth 1:16-17 (NRSV)
16 But Ruth said,“Do not press me to leave youor to turn back from following you!Where you go, I will go;where you lodge, I will lodge;your people shall be my people, and your God my God.
17 Where you die, I will die—there will I be buried.May the Lord do thus and so to me,and more as well,if even death parts me from you!”
Psalm 30 sermon by Pastor Matt Stone at dayspringumc.com
Psalm 30 (NSRV)
1 I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up, and did not let my foes rejoice over me. 2 O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. 3 O Lord, you brought up my soul from Sheol, restored me to life from among those gone down to the Pit.
4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name. 5 For his anger is but for a moment; his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
6 When I felt secure, I said, “I will never be shaken.” 7 Lord, when you favored me, you made my royal mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed.
8 To you, O Lord, I cried, and to the Lord I made supplication: 9 “What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the Pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? 10 Hear, O Lord, and be gracious to me! O Lord, be my helper!”
11 You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, 12 so that my soul may praise you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever.

He is not here, but has risen.

The Transfiguration
28 Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. 30 Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. 34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. 35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” 36 When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen.

Even after everything Moses and the Hebrew people had been through, the people preferred the slavery of Egypt to wandering in the wilderness. How often would we settle for certainty over whatever faith requires? Sermon preached on Sunday, September 30, 2018
We're all called to our work. Yet, we are all also called to ministry. So how can we do both well? By living into our calling and by trusting that God has put us exactly where we are, for a reason.

We have many desires that compete for our heart, and our soul. Part of our spiritual development is giving up or sacrificing part of our desire or experience so that somebody else can have that same experience - people who did that for us, we do that for our kids, etc.

It seems like we calendar most things in our life: work, friends, family, school, etc. What seems to not get calendared as often is rest. Some joke "I'll sleep when I'm dead" or "I don't have time to rest." Our lives require regular rest…it's how God created us. How can our rhythm of life reflect our partnership with God?
Ceasing is STOPPING. Some see Sabbath as a luxury, not a necessity. When we think that way, it can bring up feelings of guilt. Yet It is written into the rhythm of creation to practice Sabbath. How can we begin to add this spiritual discipline to our weekly pattern of life?

Sometimes we get stuck in a mindset of bringing only our "fair share" (or 50%) to our most significant relationships. If we get stuck in that pattern of behavior, we may find ourselves becoming more distant if one of the two isn't capable of bringing their 50%. Sacrificial love requires us to give 100%, no matter what the other person can give.
When we take the vows of marriage we say we will "love" each other. But what is love? What are its characteristics and how do those manifest themselves between two who have committed to spend the rest of their lives with each other?

Sometimes it is difficult to recognize how far we’ve come when we still have a long way to go. Even in the midst of sacrifice Nehemiah led the people in a time of celebration upon completion of the walls of Jerusalem. In the last of our three week series - "Rebuilding", we discover that progress requires both sacrifice and celebration.
Our stories of redemption, but by our people.

Enemies armed with swords countered Nehemiah during his mission. We face opposition in our own lives: it can come in the form of gossip, mixed motives, apathy—our “swords” can look very different today, but are no less dangerous. When somebody has a life-changing event, and they begin to forge a new path, there are people who will come along and distract or pull them away.
Nehemiah saw the destruction of his city and felt a deep desire and need to do something about it. As God’s people with hope in restoration, how can we bring compassion to today’s church - or our own lives - that some consider to be broken and vulnerable?

Karl Richter shares his story of how God has worked through the changes happening at Good Shepherd's Gladstone campus in the Northland of Kansas City.
Many times caring for someone else turns into a new normal. We can become a primary caregiver, or people may become dependent on the care and support of others. As a community of faith, how do we participate in being the hands and feet of Christ to others?
The Lord's Prayer is more than just a recitation. It's a comprehensive template for a personal prayer life!
When those we love suffer, experience pain or hurt, or are grieving, how do we comfort them? Do we give advice, or compare their situation with one of our own? What value does presence add to someone's experience? Should we offer empathy, sympathy, or both?
We live in a world that tells us what we have is not enough. The central message is: you are not happy unless you buy this product or have this experience. This idea permeates so many areas of our life and society (relationships, finances, clothes, houses, cars). What could we learn by believing what we have is enough? Is it possible we already have all we need?
God's covenants with us, and his constant pursuit of a relationship with us is perfected in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. As the perfect sacrifice, Christ establishes a new covenant with us to end all others. Sacrifice was what God required of us to make ourselves right with God, but the new covenant is about God making things right with us through the body and blood of Christ.
God has given each of us specific tools and resources that he expects us to use as we respond to His call in our lives, and something we can use to make the world a better place!

The resurrection of Jesus and his defeat of death means that even when we mourn, we don’t mourn as those without hope. There will never be a time that we suffer or grieve alone, and the risen Christ puts into new light every challenge we face in life.
Jesus leaves his disciples with a stunning example during their last meal together. Rather than being served, Jesus chose to serve, and in serving, asks the same of his disciples. He promises that those who actually follow his example will be blessed!
In 2015, Dayspring sponsored a Child Survival Program in the Dominican Republic. God is doing great things there!
Many of us are on a never-ending search- something to make us happier, give our lives more meaning, deepen our sense of significance, something that will give us fuller, happier freer lives. At first blush, the church-answer to Jesus’ question seems adequate- Jesus is what we’re looking for. But Jesus’s question to John’s disciples invites us to think more deeply about what it is we’re really looking for, to listen to our hearts, discover what we desire most and ask for what we want.
Even when we mess it up, even when we’re trying to hide from God or when we’re not even thinking about God, God is still looking for us. He never stops looking for us, not in order to punish us, but because he loves us. Yes, there are consequences to our actions, but God wants to know us even when we don’t want to know God.

At Dayspring, we push 3840 x 720 pixels of video from a Mac Pro running ProPresenter 5, through a Matrox TripleHead2Go DP video card, to a 3-panel wall (there are no actual "screens"). The video-wall ratio is 16:3 (3 x 16:9 screens, side by side).
One 3840 x 720 image/video is sent from the Mac Pro, to the Matrox TH2G, which in turn splits the video into 3, equal 1280 x 720 pixel screens. For more info, visit www.DayspringUMC.com. Beginning in March 2011, we installed an IP Camera in the top of a pine tree. The camera was powered by a 12 V car battery and charged by a solar panel. Live images were sent via a 3G modem, to a server and then linked to our website, so we could monitor the progress. 9 months later, this is the resulting video.
This 24 FPS video uses images shot at 30 minute intervals, taken over the 9 months that the camera was in the tree.
