On this episode of Eat the Damn Bread, I’m taking you beyond the City of Light and into the sun-drenched hills of the South of France to one of the most magical places I’ve ever wandered, St. Paul de Vence.
Don’t get me wrong, Paris is, well...Paris, but sometimes the most Parisian thing you can do is skip Paris and choose stillness over spectacle and presence over pressure, which is what the French lifestyle is really all about.
Tune in because I’m sharing:
This town feels like Provence and the Riviera fell in love and had a very chic baby—and trust me, it’s worth the visit. I’ll also let you in on how we’re incorporating this dreamy spot into my upcoming French Riviera Retreat, including a golden hour dinner that will be very hard to rival and unlikely to forget!
✨ Whether you travel with me or venture out solo, I hope this episode inspires you to slow down, explore with intention, and fall in love with the parts of France that don’t always make the top 10 lists—but leave a lasting mark on your soul.
Visit thecuratedretreat.com to learn more about joining me on retreat, and if you go to St. Paul de Vence on your own… please let me know! I want to hear all about it.

Welcome to the inaugural episode of our new monthly series for 2022, Lessons I Learned in France! Tune in every first Tuesday of the month as I (Colet here!) share all that France taught me during my most recent sojourn to the French Riviera!
Constantly inspired by the French art de vivre and chasing my own joie de vivre I find myself fueled by the culture and lessons of the French.
And don’t for one minute think that they are all serious and “soul searching,” because believe me, there are quite a few trivial lessons that had me really pondering cultural differences for a while!
Hope you enjoy!

Newsflash…it’s Baby Jesus’ birthday…not yours! Okay, it’s true. Gifting can be symbolic of the birth of Jesus, but let’s be honest, that isn’t the way it goes down in most North American homes! Trigger warning! This week’s episode might agitate you to take a stand… in a good way! We’ve all been scammed! Duped! Hoodwinked! At some point or another we’ve all been sold this idea that you only get one chance to live full out. You know…the whole, “once in a lifetime” narrative. It’s where you only get one opportunity in your life to do something worthwhile.
Spoiler alert…WRONG! It’s a scam!
Because we have been sold this wolf ticket, many of us have pressed pause or completely turned off our gusto for living. We have resigned ourselves to the “one day” mentality and determined that we will just wait for the “magical” time in our life when we can do what we want, live how we want and truly enjoy life. It’s B.S. And we are changing that, now!

Ah! Croissants without the pants needing to be altered, the endless lunches accompanied by a glass a wine (without the judgmental stares) and strolls in beautiful medieval villages for no particular reason. Doesn’t that sound fabulous?!
What Francophile worth their salt hasn’t dream of a perpetual existence in this glorified version of life in France?!
Seriously though, life in France is by no means as glamorously scripted as a Grace Kelley and Cary Grant film along the coast of the French Riviera. However, you must admit, the French do know a thing or two about how to not only live but thrive…and they do it well..and in style!
This, my friends, is what we are exploring this week in episode 49 of the Eat the Damn Bread podcast!
In this episode I am sharing just 5 of the many actions you can borrow from the French culture and incorporate into your daily life to make your everyday feel more like a Parisian holiday, regardless of your actual location at the time!

Carrie Anne James, French coach extraordinaire, is an American expat who has found her own version of l’art de vivre after 6 years of living in and soaking up all that that the City of Light, Paris, France, has to offer.
Actress turned French teacher, Carrie Anne has merged her wonderings of French philosophy and love of the French language to make not only the acquisition of the French language, but the understandings of the culture, more relevant to her Francophone aspiring students.
The French Is Beautiful creator started the online learning community to inspire people through something she loved, the French language. Her approach to teaching the "Language of Love" is centered upon fluidity of the language and veers away from the perfection and stress producing marker of fluency.
In our conversation, Carrie Anne and I discuss life and the pathway that brought her to Paris, how her passion for French philosophy has kept her curious about the French culture and helps her better connect and understand their approach to l’art de vivre. We also touch on:
French traditions and culture which reflect the values of unity, beauty, respect, and family.
The interrelatedness of culture and language in the way we share human values, realities and behaviours.
Adopting and fully immersing oneself in the French lifestyle.
Learning how to live a joie de vivre lifestyle (translated to the "joy of living").
Carrie Anne's signature approach to the French language as an adult learner and tips on how to keep the passion alive between you and your yearning to acquire a new language.
A truly authentic conversation, sure to entrance you and pique your interest of the complexity and beauty of French culture and language, this episode is a must!
How to listen?
Grab your favorite tea or a glass of rosé on a lazy afternoon and enjoy the conversation as if you were en terrasse at Café de Flore in Paris. Or, multiple the speed of the audio and tune in on your commute! Either way you will not want to miss the enchanting conversation!

The grand re-opening of the world here in 2021 has been compared to that of the 1920s. You know, the time of the Harlem Renaissance and Gatsbyesque decadence frivolity and excess! It brings a rush of excitement just thinking about it, does it not?!
Sure it does, but slow down their friend! Before you can enjoy that grandeur and well, fresh damn air, there are 3 things I want you to pause and think about. These 3 things will keep you from getting sucked back into that hamster wheel of life that we all complained of so a mere year and a half ago!
My motto around here…do not continue doing the same thing when you have been gifted a fresh start!
So, this week in a solocast episode of Eat the Damn Bread, I am sharing the 3 things you should steer clear of and how they will look for me as the world opens and I reintroduce myself to it!

Are you a foodie?! I hear ya, me too, but let me tell you something…you can get soooo much more than a great recipe and a fine dining experience from your favorite chef! You can get a true life lesson about how you can get your *ish together and approach life with such precision that you can advance to the place you want to be in half the time! How? By taking the chef’s approach to the kitchen and applying that to how approach life can be a game changer with the French philosophy of ‘mise en place.’
In this episode you’ll discover:
"One day I just woke up out of my stupor and I was like, this is crazy. Like, I'm the only one who has to live this life and I need to be happy about it. Insert 'mise en place!'" Colet

Health and nutrition are always top priority in my book, and I many of us are especially considerate of it during the current COVID-19 crisis, as everyone is worried about their immune system.
The great thing is that if you attend to your health and wellness consistently, not just in high need times your body will take care of you. This is why it is so important to identify the specific diet that your body responds to and allows for you to maintain optimal health.
In today's episode I chat with Sophie Van Tiggelen from the blog, A Squirrel in the Kitchen. She is an authority on the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) who has authored several books on the subject and develops recipes specific for the protocol.
She shares with us exactly who can benefit from an AIP diet, why you should consider eating this way, even if you have no know autoimmune issues and gives us a wealth of resources for you to dig into to learn more!

Retreats have become a viable option for vacation time over the past few years, but what makes a retreat the "thing-to-do" and why would you select a retreat over a traditional vacation and vice versa?
In this episode we discuss the difference between a retreat and vacation. We also go into detail about what makes a retreat worth the time and money. And of course, we connect it all to your overall well being.

REVIEW: Don't forget to leave a rating and review for the podcast! Your 5-star review might just be shared on an upcoming episode!
Let me say that this topic is definitely on target and today is all about sharing the wellness practices of the French. A lot of these are going to come from French women, but guys out there, you can definitely utilize these! They are not necessarily gender specific.
It's all about how the French use these practices to live and create a life of elegance in the mundane and the minutia of it all. Now, let's not get it twisted, no matter where you live in the world. And no matter how your wellness practices are, there are still going to be tasks that come up requirements that can't be circumvented. And for me a laundry to fold that will make you feel less than tres chic by any means.
But, what I love most about the French wellness practices, and their approach to life is that it's bundled in this elegant fabric and it just makes it feel like a five star resort versus like an entry level hostel. So today my points of reference for our topic come from two of my favorite books from French authors.
