For the fifth consecutive year, my radio show did the honors of revealing the John Lennon Songwriting Contest $20,000 OWC Song Of The Year grand prize winner. The song is chosen by an executive panel of judges that include Fergie, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kevin Bacon, Switchfoot, Prince Royce and many others. Matthew Reich, Vice President of Tours and Promotions for the JLSC and John Lennon Educational Tour Bus joined me for the call. Fees from the songwriting contest, which is currently open to both amateurs and professionals, benefit the Lennon Bus - a state-of-the-art studio on wheels.

This year's winner was the song "Breaking Things" which emerged from the contest's pop genre. Legendary comedian George Wallace chatted with me earlier this year ahead of his residency at The Westgate in Las Vegas. Our buddy Max called in from the road to chat about his new single "Still New York" and next album, "House of Divine." The LP title comes from a lyric in "Lights Down Low," an song he wrote for and proposed to his wife with. The single is a love letter to Max's hometown with a number of celebrity cameos in the music video, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, The Chainsmokers and yes - even yours truly.
Megan Devine, a psychotherapist and author of "It's OK That You're Not OK," called in to the show after the death of designer Kate Spade so that we could have an honest conversation about discussing suicide and mental health in 2018 and on a platform like mine.
Sadly after we taped this, celebrity chef and TV host Anthony Bourdain took his life.

Friend-of-the-show JAX called in from our nation's capital, where the next night she would perform at The White House for a special tribute to our troops on July 4th. The performance aired live on the Hallmark Channel. JAX's entire family, including her father who was a firefighter and first-responder on 9/11 along with her brother, a current Marine, were in attendance.
However also in attendance were both President Trump and the First Lady. This of course subjected the New Jersey native to criticism from the President's detractors; however JAX explained her stance on accepting the invitation to perform and what the event meant to her during our interview.

For the third consecutive year, The John Lennon Songwriting Contest bestowed upon us the honor of announcing the winner of its year-long, international songwriting competition. This year's "$20,000 Song Of The Year" winner was "Arizona," a track by California-based duo Common Souls. New York City-based musician Ryan M. Vaughn stopped by to chat about "A Holiday Benefit," an annual compilation album and charity concert that donates proceeds to charity. For the second straight year, money raised will be sent to ArteAmor, a non-profit that places artists in orphanages across the globe so that kids living in extreme poverty can experience the arts.

The first ever "Stream Com NYC" took place Halloween weekend in the city. Hollywire's Chelsea Briggs was in town for the event, which showcased the online video community. Now Chelsea and I have known each other for a minute, but as I explain at the beginning of our chat, I didn't see her here until I literally ran in to her in Times Square of all places. For the second straight year, The John Lennon Songwriting Contest called upon "Ralphie Tonight" to announce the winner of its year-long, international songwriting competition. This year's "Song Of The Year" winner was "Dysphoric," a track by Barrington, R.I.-based quartet The Rare Occasions.
Each year, the contest is divided in to a pair of sessions. Over $300,000 in cash and prizes is awarded, culminating with the "Song Of The Year," which includes a $20,000 prize.
Brian Rothschild, Execuitve Director of The JLSC and Matthew Reich, Vice President of U.S. Tours and Promotions, along with American Authors' front man Zac Barnett joined "Ralphie Tonight" for the announcement. Barnett's band won the contest in 2012.

David Plouffe served as the Campaign Manager for President Barack Obama in 2008. He was also a Senior White House Adviser before joining Uber as the Senior Vice President of Policy and Strategy.
Unbeknownst to Mr. Plouffe until this interview, he also gave Ralphie one of the biggest breaks of his career.

In an interview to promote his new movie "The Gambler," actor Mark Wahlberg revealed that the HBO "Boardwalk Empire" series may not have seen it's last day. Similar to "Entourage," which the Boston native was also an Executive Producer on, Wahlberg will now try to have a feature-film based on the TV series made. Wahlberg also said he wants to talk to Martin Scorsese about directing it.
The actor also confirmed that the Entourage movie is slated to be released on his birthday, June 5.
Wahlberg stars in "The Gambler." He plays professor Jim Bennett, a gambling addict who runs in to trouble with gangsters. The film is in theaters now.

Jason Sagebiel fought in the Iraq War as a scout-sniper for the Marine Corp. Upon returning back to the states, he released that during combat he suffered a brain injury. Sagebiel rebuilt his cognitive skills by re-learning to play guitar, an instrument he knew since age 13. He now runs Sage Music, a school in Long Island City that combines traditional music education with special focuses on psychology and health.
