Saltwater fishing is getting better with each passing day. Schoolie stripers are showing up on Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod. It's an exciting time of the year. In today's podcast, we speak with two brand new guests-Matt Reinemo from Nantucket Tackle Center and Abbie Schuster from Kismet Outfitters from the Vineyard. We also speak with MFCC founder Ryan Collins, Goose Hummock store manager Dan Jones, and MFCC member Bruno Demir of Cape & Islands Mitsubishi.  When we talked with MFCC founder Ryan Collins, he was fresh off a squid fishing trip in Nantucket Sound with Ryan Henry from the Goose Hummock Shops. The squid bite has been good for many anglers, but it will probably slow down as more scup and sea bass move in.  Ryan has also been out recently in Buzzard's Bay fishing for tautog and scup. Freshwater fishing for black crappie and largemouth bass has also been keeping him busy. Second in today's lineup is Dan Jones - store manager at the Goose Hummock Shop in Orleans. According to Dan, a lot of people are still freshwater fishing on Cape, and the state is still stocking ponds with trout. Schoolie stripers have also been caught by some of the guys at the shop. Anglers are coming into the store right now to stock up on squid jigs before that bite ends, and if you need your tuna reels spooled with line, then now is the time! Third in today's show is Abbie Schuster of Kismet Outfitters on Martha's Vineyard. Abbie is new to the podcast and we are excited to have her contributing. According to Abbie, schoolie striped bass have arrived on the island, and she's actually been guiding all this week. The ponds and back bays is where all the action has been at. Abbie goes on to give us a preview of the many fishing opportunities available on Martha's Vineyard this spring and throughout the season. Next in today's podcast is MFCC member Bruno Demir of Cape & Islands Mitsubishi. When we spoke with Bruno he was live on the water fishing out in Nantucket Sound. According to Bruno, the fishing for tog over rocky bottom in the Sound has been good. In fact, Bruno had 4 keeper tog in the box when we spoke. Bruno had also caught a juvenile black sea bass and several hubcap size scup. Squid fishing is also still happening in the Sound. Wrapping up today's podcast is captain Matt Reinemo of Nantucket Tackle Center. According to Matt, freshwater fishing on the island is good, and the first migratory striper was caught the other day. According to Matt, tautog is not a species often caught on Nantucket, but there are some wrecks and jetties worth targeting. Holdover striped bass are also still in the bays, and it won't be long until black sea bass and other saltwater species move into the area. Matt goes on to give us a preview of what's to come on Nantucket Island throughout the spring, summer and fall. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

We start today's show with a call to MFCC founder Ryan Collins has been having luck freshwater fishing for brown trout, rainbow trout and largemouth bass, at the ponds of Outer Cape Cod. Ryan has been fishing the ponds both on foot and in his kayak. Baker JLD jerk baits have been working exceptionally well. We also received a full MFCC news update from Ryan, with information about who won the latest member-only fishing trip and charter giveaways. Ryan goes on to share a saltwater fishing forecast for squid, stripers, tautog, and more.

Next up is store owner Phil Howarth of the Goose Hummock Shops in Orleans. The store has been busy according to Phil, with people out freshwater fishing and getting ready for the arrival of striped bass. Phil reports that stripers are being caught on Cape, but they are most likely holdovers. Freshwater fishing has also been very popular recently, especially among families. The Goose is now hiring for part-time and full-time employees for the upcoming season. Please phone the store if you are interested in applying at (508) 255-0455 or just swing by the shop.

Third in today's lineup is Bruno Demir - My Fishing Cape Cod member and owner of Cape & Islands Mitsubishi. Last week Bruno gave squid fishing a try but didn't have any luck. He thinks squid will start being caught this week (or next week at the absolute latest). Bruno recommends using the smaller squid jigs in green and pink. According to what Bruno's hearing, haddock are being caught at Stellwagen and some tautog have been caught in Buzzard's Bay. Bruno recommends the outgoing tide for tog fishing. Schoolies with sea lice are being caught in Narragansett, so Bruno thinks they'll show along the southside of the Cape by the first week of May. Learn more about your ad choices. The spring migration of striped bass is about 3 weeks away from reaching Cape Cod. Fishing for squid, haddock and tautog will also heat up as we progress into the month of April. This podcast was recorded on April 9th, and in this show you'll get fishing reports from Ryan Collins, MFCC members Bruno Demir and John Figmic, and Erik Wisniewski from the Goose Hummock Shops. Our next fishing report podcast will be two weeks from today, but once the Cape Cod  saltwater fishing season really gets going we will plan on publishing these fishing reports and podcasts weekly. We're also working to include a wide array of guests to help provide fishing reports for more areas around Cape Cod and the Islands. We will keep you posted on developments. When we talked with MFCC founder Ryan Collins, he was freshwater fishing at a pond in Bourne. Ryan was also recently at the Bournedale herring run, but so far he's yet to see any big schools of herring there. In addition, there's been plenty of giveaways happening on My Fishing Cape Cod, and Ryan gives us all the details in our conversation. Details about the May 8th long-distance casting competition as well as the October 2nd team surfcasting tournament re also discussed. Ryan goes on to summarize some of the top recent catches from the MFCC community, which includes fishing for white perch, trout and shellfishing.  According to Ryan, squid ought to arrive by the end of April, and if this spring is anything like last spring, then schoolie stripers will show up in Buzzard's Bay around the same time. Second in today's lineup is Bruno Demir - My Fishing Cape Cod member and owner of Cape & Islands Mitsubishi. Last week Bruno stopped by the Stony Brook herring run in Brewster and was greeted by dozens of sea gulls and some nice schools of river herring. Bruno also thinks some anglers have already been out targeting winter flounder with sea worms. Another species which Bruno is hoping to target this spring are haddock. Haddock are wonderful eating, and they are already being caught just north of the Cape. According to Bruno, anchoring up and fishing fresh clams is a good bet. Third in today's lineup is John Figmic, resident of Sandwich and a member of My Fishing Cape Cod. So far this spring John has been chasing trout at the Cape's kettle ponds, and he's also been out digging clams and oysters. During the season, John splits his time between fishing the beach and fishing the Cape Cod Canal. Right now John thinks we'll start seeing herring in the Bournedale run very soon, but he hasn't seen any in earnest yet. John thinks that maybe another week or 10 days and the herring run will get going. We finish up today's podcast with a conversation with Erik Wisniewski of the Goose Hummock Shops in Orleans.  Freshwater fishing has been on fire according to Erik, with anglers finding plenty of opportunities for largemouths, smallmouths and trout.  In addition, Erik provides us with a river herring report, as well as a schoolie striped bass forecast.  Learn more about your ad choices. During 2021, all of our Cape Cod fishing reports will be immediately posted to myfishingcapecod.com/podcasts for members of My Fishing Cape Cod to listen to. Throughout the season I will also share podcasts on iTunes and the other podcast directories. However, the podcasts on iTunes will be shared 1-2 weeks after I share them on myfishingcapecod.com/podcasts. I figure this is the most fair way to go about it. None of what I do would be possible without the support of My Fishing Cape Cod members, so members will always get first access. The saltwater fishing season is still several weeks away, but freshwater fishing on Cape has been good. Today we have a lineup of guests who are ready to share their latest fishing reports with you. When we talked with MFCC founder Ryan Collins, he was freshwater fishing at a pond in Bourne. According to Ryan, right now is a great time to target pre-spawn freshwater bass. Earlier this month Ryan had success with yellow perch. The most effective technique for perch was drop shotting live shiners with a 5/16 ounce weight and fishing them just above the bottom. Ryan has not yet been out fishing for holdover striped bass. However, he knows of several My Fishing Cape Cod members who scored holdover stripers this past week. Fishing estuaries after dark has been more productive than during the day for holdover striped bass. Ryan goes on to share a status update for My Fishing Cape Cod, including his plans for this podcasting season. In addition he recaps his 2021 trip to Costa Rica. Second in today's lineup is Bruno Demir - My Fishing Cape Cod member and owner of Cape & Islands Mitsubishi. Right now Bruno is looking forward to the arrival of squid, which usually happens in late April and early May. The squid are spawning so according to Bruno this bite will only last 2-3 weeks. Another species which Bruno is hoping to target this spring are haddock. Haddock are wonderful eating, and they usually show up on Stellwagen and Cape Cod Bay during mid to late April. Clams and/or diamond jigs will work well for the haddock. Next up is store manager Dan Jones of the Goose Hummock Shops in Orleans. Dan is a phenomenal resource when it comes to freshwater fishing on the Cape. According to Danny there are plenty of trout and bass being caught right now. There's been some nice brook trout in the 2-3 pound range, and of course plenty of rainbows.  Dan even caught a 9 pound 2 ounce brown trout earlier in the year! The Goose has also ramped up their freshwater inventory with a bunch of new spoons, spinners and other lures. According to Danny, one of the guys from the Goose caught a 5 pound largemouth this past week in Sandwich while fishing for trout. Dan thinks the largemouth bass will start moving into shallower water along the south side of most Cape ponds (which are generally the sunnies and warmest sections of the pond).
