Years ago Daniel Goleman, through Emotional Intelligence, introduced the concept of self-regulation and recently Judith Glaser, through Conversational Intelligence, introduced the concept of co-regulation. Both are powerful and needed within our own personal life as well as the system where we live and work. In today’s podcast we’ll explore both capacities and talk about how we use co-regulation every day to navigate life’s tricky waters.
Our Identity - what we are calling our essence, when remembered can accomplish so much more. In today’s podcast we examine this principle and share how we wrestle with remembering our identity and what happens when we forget and are left to try and perform through our own forceful means.
We all love to tell our stories of how life is working either for us or against us. Many times we get stuck believing these stories are true and this stuckness can create a barrier to experiencing our truest and highest self. In today’s podcast we explore the mystery of clearing (surrendering) our stories so that we can discover how to live a powerful purposeful life.
Our knowing - the function of our brain to capture and process data - is primarily committed to surviving and maintaining our unconscious self. In today’s podcast we explore how this important function of our brain may block our access to our truest or highest self - and ultimately our power.
Caroline Myss said, “A soul companion is a person with whom you share a bond of reverence for the spiritual journey you’re both on.” In today’s podcast we’ll explore our experience with soul companionship and how these most important relationships help us discover and live a powerful and purposeful life.
Carl Rogers said, “what is most personal is most universal.” In today’s podcast we explore our experience with this statement and share how our dark side, when authentically owned, can begin an awakening process for us to live our highest self and the unleashing of our inner powerful light side.
Every day we each put a particular type of energetic fuel in our human consciousness or experience that drives a distinct personality pattern. There is a process we’ve labeled “surrendering” to alchemize our normal energetic fuel, release our power and experience our truest selves. In today’s podcast we explore our personality’s passions (fuel) and virtues (power) as well as the alchemist process of surrendering.
We navigate and experience life through our personality - no new news here - right?! Research tells us that our life experience is mostly unconscious (maybe even 98% of the time) and when we’re unconsciously in our personality we can block access to our true selves and our power. In today’s podcast we share our own experience with how our unconscious personality patterns keep us stuck requiring us to use force or forcefulness to navigate life...and how we begin to access our power.
Defining success for each of us is deeply personal and, for most of us, its definition is set by our families, friends and the culture at large. In today’s podcast we partner with one of our clients to examine how we’ve defined success throughout our lives and how we experience it today.
Life is filled with its ups and downs - and, of course, we’re all very familiar with this fact. But have we ever stopped to consider that we may be attracting or unconsciously creating these “down” or dramatic experiences? In today’s podcast we explore how we’re struggling with being addicted to our 1.0-self story and the drama it creates.
In today’s podcast we reflect on the early days of our work with the Cultivating our Souls groups. We explore what we’ve experienced so far and share insights and discoveries about ourselves and this program.
As we discussed in our last podcast we expressed how our 1.0 Life Plan can represent the majority of our unconscious thoughts and many times is based primarily on fear. In today’s podcast we take the next step and share how we wrestle with surrendering our fear-based 1.0 life plan enabling us to choose our 2.0 Life Plan.
For listeners of other Mazzi Podcasts we’ve discovered that everyone has a 1.0 Life Plan. This 1.0 Life Plan can represent the majority of our unconscious thoughts and actions and includes living primarily a personality-driven life. In today’s podcast we’ll examine how fear may be the basis of most, if not all, of our 1.0 Life Plan decisions.
This past week we introduced a new service offering which we’ve called Cultivating Our Souls. In today’s podcast we’ll share the genesis of this program, its intent and our surrendering in the design and co-creation of it.
In a world filled with noise finding or cultivating the power of silence can be quite an adventure. Being grateful or thankful is a powerful experience. Discovering its power and learning how to live a life filled with gratitude is an important part in creating a life or a company filled with power, creativity, engagement, meaning and purpose. In today’s podcast we wrestle with this powerful energy and share our own wrestling of removing the barriers to experiencing gratitude moment by moment.
Most of us have heard the phrase “following your heart.” What does this mean and how does one go about wrestling with this distinction. In Part 1 of our podcast we focused on what we mean by the term “heart” and in today’s conversation we explore the ways our internal guidance or heart reveals itself and how we respond to it or engage with it.
Most of us have heard the phrase “following your heart.” In today’s Part 1 (of a two-part podcast) we’ll focus our conversation on what we mean by the term “heart.” We’ll contrast this distinction with other familiar terms with like: emotions / feelings, rational thinking, intuition, guidance as well as our core archetypes.
As we all know, conversations are how we navigate our way through life and with each other. In our conversations many times we may unconsciously communicate in ways that creates disconnection from the very people we need. In today’s podcast we share our reflections and wrestling with how we too can unconsciously communicate in disconnecting ways - with our words, our listening and our intentions.
Judith Glaser’s work in Conversational Intelligence reminds us that “Words create worlds!” In today’s podcast we share our reflections and wrestling with honoring the words we use as we partner together in order to co-create a more powerful, safe, creative and connected world.
When we’re placed in situations where we believe “they don’t get it” we can either shift into unconscious behaviors or conscious behaviors. In today’s podcast we wrestle with our own experiences of being both self-responsible as well as unconscious when we discover ourselves thinking “they don’t get it.”
We are at our best in working and communicating with each other when we’re filled with authentic caring and candor towards ourselves and each other. When we stop being authentic with each other our conversations can seem artificial and our politeness can then seem forced or faked. In today’s podcast we wrestle with our own experience in how our artificial politeness or niceness poisons our desire to connect and create powerfully together.
Getting engaged or fully showing up in a conversation can be really hard for some and easier for others. Two of our Mazzi Partners lead today’s discussion exploring why showing up may be at times hard for them and how they wrestle with being fully expressed and owning their wholehearted powerful selves.
Many of us are culturally taught that it’s best if we go along and just agree to keep the peace while others are tied to their own powerful “yes!” and don’t fully know how to create or hold the space for others to powerfully say “yes!” as well. In today’s podcast we’ll share how we at Mazzi wrestle with being our powerful yes - individually and collectively.
Being in discovery is distinctively different than being in learning. Both are very important, but being in discovery creates a powerful internal and external team energy which encourages connection, creativity and fosters safe engagement. In today’s podcast we’ll share how we wrestle with the distinction of discovery energy versus learning energy.
Being self responsible and more conscious of who I’m being when I arrive to participate in a meeting is really important. In today’s podcast we’ll explore how we wrestle with how we show up and engage as we plan, schedule and participate in meaningful-purposeful meetings.
Each of us have a historical habitual unconscious way of being in life and each of have a powerful natural wholehearted way of being in life. Many remain unaware of this powerful natural self and therefore struggle to consciously choose it. In today’s podcast we’ll explore how we wrestle with becoming more conscious to our old habitual self and share how we choose to stay connected to our powerful more connected wholehearted self.
Many in the world of business have traded their humanity for a mask we call “being professional.” But what does this really mean when we say we should just be professional and, are we unconsciously eliminating an opportunity for each of us be our fully wholehearted human self. Must we pick one over the other? In today’s podcast we explore this distinction between “being professional” and “being fully human” and we hope to shine a light on the power of integrating the these two important ways of being.
Life, especially life in business, is filled with requirements and needs for each of us to perform and meet our commitments. So often we attempt to navigate through this by using a framework called “holding each other accountable.” In Mazzi we practice another framework we’ve called “holding each other in love.” In today’s podcast we explore this distinction, and as usual, remain committed for us being a teaching to help the listener understand how we work together within this framework of holding each other in love.
Getting and staying on the same page for some reason seems like a mysterious process. Just when we think we’re all on the same page our actions and conversations after some meetings plainly show us we weren’t. In today’s podcast we share our own experiences about the traps we can fall into that leave us believing we’re on the same page. We’ll also briefly share some of the tools or frameworks we use to maximize the possibilities that we get on and stay on the same page.
Being self-responsible in life - especially in our professional life - is often misunderstood and many times then avoided. Developing this capacity has significant and powerful consequences on ourselves and with each other. In today’s podcast we explore this powerful way of being as well as sharing our own experiences of wrestling to embody it.
The way we talk with each other really matters. As we know, our conversations can help create connection and establish trust among each other or they can do the exact opposite. In today’s podcast we explore the levels or types of conversations we all engage within. By Mazzi being a teaching first we’ll begin to help the listener understand how to create conversations that deepen connection, strengthen trust and ignite engagement.
The dictionary defines frenetic actions as those being hurried actions resulting from scattered thinking, nervousness, excitement, and uncontrolled emotions. The actions of a person are frenetic if they are full of energy and activity but without being rooted in truth, connection or the present moment. In this podcast we’ll explore Mazzi’s wrestling with our own frenetic energy. We also discuss and demonstrate how to escape its habitual and seductive trap.
Being connected with ourselves and each other has tremendous benefits. In our podcast today we explore the distinction of connection (what we mean when we use this word) and its tangible value to our relationships and our organizations.
In a world filled with activity focused on improving effectiveness and efficiency we rarely pause long enough to examine how our lives and experience at work is negatively impacted from being disconnected from ourselves and each other. In today’s podcast we explore the distinction of disconnection and its consequences or cost on individuals, leaders, husbands, and/or wives being disconnected from one another.
The Enneagram of Personality, or simply the Enneagram, is a description of the human psyche which is principally understood and taught as a typology of nine interconnected personality types. Mazzi has been influenced and shaped by the use of the Enneagram’s frameworks and in our podcast today we introduce the basics of this powerful framework. We also share the usefulness of it in our work together as we continue to awaken and transform the nature of leadership and business - first within us and then with our clients.
Our podcast today examines the movie Kung Fu Panda as a story or metaphor about the adventure of transforming into our individual and collective power. In this movie, Po the panda (voice performed by Jack Black) works in his family's noodle shop and dreams of becoming a kung-fu master. His dream becomes a reality when, unexpectedly, he must fulfill an ancient prophecy and study the skills with his idols, the Furious Five. Po needs all the wisdom, strength and ability he can muster to protect his people from Tai Lung, an evil snow leopard. Join us as we examine how each of us have a “Po” within and are invited to engage in our own transforming individually and collectively.
So much has been written about how to take care of our organizational system, assets or resources. In the world of business and organizational performance, minimal attention is given to our most powerful and important resource: our brain. In our podcast today, we’ll talk through how we pay regular attention to the health and welfare of this most complex organ or organs.
In our society, we tend to elevate our leaders to high and sometimes unhealthy levels as we idolize certain characteristics or personalities they may possess. When we do this we unconsciously fall into many traps or holes (for example: creating feelings of isolation / separation and even an “us versus them” mentality). Today we’ll talk about how idealizing our leaders or thinking of them as superhuman can trip us up in the area of thriving together or creating We.
Within the context of relationships or organizational working environments, the naysayers or skeptics can either be a blessing or a curse. In our podcast today we’ll talk through the many ways resistance can be a gift - even though the associated resistance or resistor may cause some short-term discomfort.
Shifting into powerful leadership requires transformation. Transformation in our capacities to create, listen, and engage with others around us. As adults inviting transformation and experiential learning has several barriers - some self created and others created by our past experiences and culture. Join us as we explore our own barriers to transforming and how we’ve created a system that sustains transformation and creating-we.
As humans we each struggle with clarity of our vision (our seeing). It’s normal for us to understand that our eyes don’t see everything around us and accept we have blind spots - especially when we’re driving! Recognizing that our human condition also comes with its own built-in blind spots can be a point of frustration or a point of liberation. In today’s podcast our team discusses how our internal blind spots can be either a blessing or a curse. We’ll talk through how co-creating a “we-oriented” community helps us, both individually and collectively, thrive while navigating our blind spots.
Each person and organization has an intention or a focused reason and way of being in the world. Understanding what is the underlying script for our lives and organization is key to discovering why things are the way they are - current reality. Bringing unity into our individual and collective intention is an important step in learning to create a thriving, enjoyable and sustainable life and organization. Listen as we explore this distinction together.
Our podcast today examines the movie The Incredibles as a case study in setting an I-centered context or a WE-centered context. In this lauded Pixar animated film, married superheroes Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) are forced to assume mundane lives after all super-powered activities have been banned by the government. While Mr. Incredible loves his wife and kids, he longs to return to a life of adventure and saving the world. He gets a chance when summoned to an island to battle an out-of-control robot. Soon, Mr. Incredible is in trouble, and it's up to his family to save him...and unlock the power of themselves and their family.
Our world use the words “relationship” and “partnership” in many different settings. Typically when we focus on these settings we only pay attention to the material or physical world - the two or more people present in the relationship or partnership. Our podcast today explores the third entity that is always present but mostly overlooked - the space or energy within, among or between each of us.
Movies continue to be useful metaphors and speak powerfully to us - especially when seen through the eyes of the Divine, wholeheartedness or We-centeredness. In this podcast Mazzi discusses some key insights within the context of Disney’s 2000 movie release of The Kid starring Bruce Willis. Bruce’s character is an unhappy and disliked image consultant and gets a second shot at life when he is mysteriously confronted by an eight-year-old version of himself. Join us we we wrestle to wake up and break free from both our individual and collective historical ways of thinking and being.
Judith Glaser discusses in her pioneering work, Conversational Intelligence, how difficult conversations and situations arise when we disagree with each other. She introduces an effective tool / process called the Ladder of Conclusions which removes the barriers that energized disagreement and then brings a powerful connection and trust-based energy that unite us together enabling us to co-create mutual success. Join Mazzi as we share our experience in using the Ladder of Conclusions tool / process.
Triangulation is a psychological device used by many leaders and followers in today’s business world. For many the directive of “don’t do this!” causes the behavior to go underground and it continues to flourish throughout an organization. In today’s conversation we’ll examine its usefulness - or not - and how committing to a “creating We” strategy positively impacts the need or usefulness for triangulation.
Being a powerful follower is critical and can be a challenging capacity for a follower to build and possess. Leaders and followers need each other to unite so that thriving businesses can be co-created. “Leading Up” language reflects traditional mechanisms to encourage followers to navigate force-based boss/employee business systems. Today we discuss transforming leading up strategies into “leading with” strategies which are designed to co-create Power-based partnering business systems.
Being “the boss” or being responsible for an outcome produced by a group has many challenges. Today we’ll explore how leaders, who may have powerful or useful insights (we’ll call that “seeing”), can shift from communicating in ways that embody “power-over” others (e.g., “listen to me since I’m the boss”) into communicating in ways that embody sharing and co-creating “power-with” others (e.g., “let’s listen to each other, including me, since no one individual has the complete picture and answer”).
Our culture teaches us to focus on pursuing happiness. Most of our cultural models, especially in the world of business, communicate that we must work hard and achieve (or at least attempt to) great success in our world so we’ll be able to both have and experience long-term happiness. Focusing on choosing and experience joy (especially in your vocation or business life) is different, and we believe, a more powerful option. In this podcast we’ll explore this distinction and wrestle with their respective consequences.
In this podcast we continue the movie metaphor conversation. Today’s focus surrounds Tim Burton’s movie Alice in Wonderland released in 2010. In our conversation today we’ll demonstrate our wrestling with several major characters (or archetypes) from the movie including: Alice, the Red Queen, the White Queen, the Rabbit and the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp’s character).

In this podcast Mazzi discusses some key insights within the context of the movie Peaceful Warrior. In the movie, Dan is a gifted athlete whose desire for success drives everything he does. When a mysterious stranger - Socrates - opens Dan's eyes to a new vision of strength and understanding, the Olympic hopeful finds that he still has much to learn and more sacrifices to make. Our world today is filled with technologies that claim to be improving our alignment and connectedness with each other. Our leadership training focuses on creating alignment and compliance within our organization and our teams. However like so many, we continue to see more than ever before, a business and leadership world more disconnected, misaligned and ineffective. In today’s podcast we explore, using us as the model for this exploration, the distinction of connectedness leading to unification.

Transforming the nature of leadership starts with focusing on helping leaders remember who they were created to be - their true self. This is the purpose of life planning and Mazzi’s Life Planning transformation service. The in-between-time from choosing to co-create your life plan and starting your Life Plan is an important part of the process. In today’s conversation we’ll openly discuss this important time period, including how best to prepare for an amazing transformation experience as well as the hurdles or barriers you may experience within yourself.
Movies can be useful metaphors and speak powerfully to us - especially when seen through the eyes of the Divine, wholeheartedness or We-centeredness. This is Mazzi’s first podcast of a regular conversation we’ll have focused on particular movies - as the basis of a metaphor for our life. Join us as we explore the movie Touching the Void based on a 1988 book by Joe Simpson, recounting his and Simon Yates' successful but disastrous and nearly fatal climb of the 6,344-metre Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985.

In this podcast we’ll model our own transparent work and struggle to take responsibility for living an integrated life in business.

Including yourself and leaning in is easy to talk about theoretically, but very difficult to do - especially when we are scared. This podcast continues the topic from Part 1 and demonstrates how individual and we-centered engagement creates breakthroughs for everyone.
Today’s podcast is a real-time look into a Mazzi team meeting where we wrestle with engagement and commitment - individually and collectively. In this podcast our Mazzi team talks about the signs or markers that a leader can observe (in their own life or the life of their organization) that informs them they are ready for the journey of transformation.
Leaders and team members alike all experience times - in meetings or one-to-one conversations - where they are overwhelmed with emotions, especially negative emotions. Conversational Intelligence refers to these times as “amygdala hijacks.” We have each experienced the rush of cortisol within our brains causing us to either fight or run away. How can we learn to effectively navigate through these times without losing access to our power? Listen as Mazzi explores our own experience with these “oh crap!” moments.

Every business has routine or mundane tasks that must be accomplished. And many times this routine work must be done in a particular way. As a leader and a team member how do you create and work within a shared leadership or a we-centered environment when the work itself isn’t creative and leaders need themselves or their team members to “just do it!”?
Many of our leadership models teach leaders and followers to use "power-over" strategies versus "power-with" strategies.
