Max's audio diary and podcast. He writes at maxefremov.com about economics, gymnastics training, fitness, and fasting.
Howard Baetjer (rhymes with nature) is an economist from George Mason University, a lecturer at Towson University (my alma mater), and the most important intellectual and academic influence of my life, having opened me up a world of thinkers and ideas that I consider foundational to my worldview today. I can trace an intellectual development that shifted tremendously when, in the spring of 2017, when I first met Professor "Howie" Baetjer.
The Professor teaches at Towson where he inspires legions of students every semester, teaching them to write and think more clearly about economics. We discuss several important ideas and topics, such as the socialist calculation debate, Hayek's 1945 article "The Use of Knowledge in Society", and the role of prices in coordinating activity.
It was great to finally get one of our conversations on air—the Professor and I meet for virtual coffee once or twice a week—and it would be great to have him back soon.
It's not every day that you get to chat with one of your favorite YouTubers.
Tyson Edwards is one of those all-around incredible athletes: an Olympic weightlifter, gymnastics strength athlete and coach, and most recently a martial artist and marathoner. He's also dabbled in parkour, tricking, climbing, and holds a Guinness World Record in the highest standing backflip.
We discussed the interplay between training and video content creation, the purpose and joy of functional training, Tyson's background in a number of different athletic endeavors, as well his many other interests.
It was a joy to finally get to talk to him.
First official episode of my interview diary and podcast is with Luke O'Geil is now on my site.
Luke O'Geil is a gymnastics coach and athlete from Calgary, Canada. On his Instagram @lukeogeil he chronicles his various training sessions which are an inspiration and the basis of our conservation. We discuss the gymnasts' strength training program, his particular regimen, coaching gymnasts, and what's expected at the elite level.
We also discuss how the proper mindset for consistent training and performance can carry over to one's everyday life, as embodied in one of Luke's favorite quotations, How you do anything is how you do everything. We end on a discussion of the role of fasting and fueling in a peak fitness, at-home program amidst the current pandemic keeping us all on lockdown.
