Two men journey to the bars and restaurants of Scandinavia to find amazing beers. Always with the same question “what’s on tap?”
We usually don't feature DIPA's on show. They are impossible to review. Either they are amazingly made or dull and lifeless. We got really lucky this episode. Shelton Brewing started as an inhouse brewery inside a Whole Foods in Houston, Texas suburbs. This DIPA is a collab with Copenhagen's best beer bar Peders. Drip is loaded with citra, mosaic, motueka and nectaron hops. It's impossibly good. We jump from Texas to New York for Test. They are a nano brewery making big waves with great DIPAs. Mythopoetic Imagination has citra, krush and motueka hops. It's a good day to be drinking beers.

It's no secret we love lambics. When we found that 3F did two collaborations with two of our favorite American brewers, we had to try them. This might come as a shock, but we loved them. First we tried the Side Project Panache. This is a 6% lambic blend of Fermier 2024 with a 2020 Oude Lambik. The result is a funky, tart delicious treat. Next is De Garde Meer & More. It comes in at 9% ABV and blends a spontaneous wild ale with a lambic blend with Mourvedre grapes. Then it's aged on oak barrels for 2 to 7 years. If you can get your hands on this one, you're in for something special. We hope 3F does more of these collaboration in the future if they stay this amazing.

Stefan went out East and of course got some beers. He visited Japan for 2 weeks and tried tons of beers. Of course he brought back a few for the podcast. This episode we crack open two of them. The first is from Derailleur Brew Works. Japanese breweries like to add "additional" ingredients to lagers, wheat beers and stouts. Boku Cardaemon is a traditional wheat beers with cardamom. At first it sounds kinda weird but it somehow works really well. Next is Ushitora Brewery. They released a triple IPA called #503 San Ju Ku. It's a easy drinking 10% ABV beer.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #wheatbeer #tipa #japanbeer
Summer is heating up but the beers are staying cold. It's too hot to write a bunch. Let's keep it brief. Italian brewers Alder Beer Co released a great summer beer with Hering. This 5.2% AVB German pilsner is one of the best pilsners we've ever had. The Veil Brewing released a Triple IPA called Trapped in the Void in collaboration with troon, Brujos and Root + Branch. This 10% big dog is hopped with Riwaka Amplifire, Krush LuoMax, Citra, Citra Cryo and Nelson Sauvin. Stay cool out there.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #pilsner #tipa
We have a Canadian episode. When you think summer, you naturally think Canada. Well...maybe not. Why are we featuring two beers from Canada this episode you ask. We just happened to have two Canadian beers. Brasserie du Bas Canada has been releasing a lot of great IPA's. We've been fortunate to try a few. Named after the ash tree nymphs from Greek mythology, Meliades is an American DDH IPA made with Citra, Vic Secret, Galaxy and Enigma. Bad Bones The Pain is a DIPA coming in at 8.1% ABV. Made with Nelson Sauvin and Rakau, it's an easy drinking DIPA that makes us want to try more from the brewery. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #dipa #ipa
It's Stefan's birthday this week so of course we're having beers to celebrate. Big fruity beers of love from Canada and Germany. Stefan picked a beer that will hopefully remind him of a childhood treat from his past. Collective Arts Cherry Limeade Sour is a 6.2% ABV made with tart cherry and lime to give a refreshingly tart experience. Sudden Death The Fabulous Fruits of Doom comes in at 5% ABV and is filled with peach, passionfruit, banana, coconut and honey. It's one hell of a pastry sour.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #sourbeer #pastrysour
Who doesn't love a little fire and ice? The blend of hot and cold. When we saw this magical combo, we knew this was an episode waiting to be recorded. Norwegian Nogne O has made a Belgian quadrupel that was matured for 2 years on hot sauce casks and Scottish Highlands whiskey casks. It's sounds like it would blow your taste buds out with heat. The results a highly drinkable Belgian quad with a nice little spiciness at the end. We combine that with a little coolness. Evil Twin Brewing NYC Freezer Fresh Sundae - Mint Chocolate Chip is a mint chocolate chip based pastry stout. Brewed with soft serve ice cream, cocao nibs and pepermint, it's one you'll either love or hate.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #belgianquad #imperialstout
We're halfway through the year and it's time to celebrate...with beer! Of course it's beer. Like that was ever in question...sheesh. We start off with something local from Elmeleven. Known for their thick pastry sours, Elmeleven has been reinventing the brand by venturing into IPAs and stouts. We picked up Moons, an 11.5% ABV imperial stout. Made with peanut butter and chocolate capsules, this is big step in the right direction. Years ago, Stefan left a bottle of Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery Acadian Groove Maple Porter at Martin's as a loving gift. 10 years later, Martin decided it was time to open it. What should have maple, vanilla, coffee and chocolate has developed into something else entirely.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #porter #imperialstout
Once again we deep dive into Martin's cellar and find out if he's kept gold or held on for too long. Brekeriet released King's Goblet back in 2020. It's a strong ale aged in Rioja wine barrels for 9 months. It was never a huge hit. It averages a 3.53 overall rating on Untappd. Hopefully it hasn't fallen off. Mikkeller Brewing San Diego closed in 2022. Valknut also came out in 2020. This imperial stout originally had coffee, vanilla, pecans and was aged in maple barrels. No walnuts were used in the making of this beer. We had it back in 2020 and gave it a 4.5 rating. How does it hold up 6 years later? #beer #craftbeer #drinks #goldenale #barrelaged #imperialstout
Sometimes you get beers that are more than a beer. They are works of art. Stigbergets has been one of our favorite Swedish breweries for a long time. They continue to excel at releasing different beer styles, particularly their DIPA. Dubbelnelson is a NZ style double IPA made with nelson suavin hops. It's smooth, tropical and way to easy to drink. UK brewers Beak are killing it with their DIPA game. Pop-Art continues their success. This DIPA comes in at 8% ABV and contains citra and nelson sauvin. Fuity, grassy and makes you appreciate the art of brewing.
#beer #drinks #craftbeer #dipa #neipa
Summer is arriving and we need something light an refreshing. We've tried lots of Dugges beers on the show. They have mostly been stouts. We thought it was time to dip our toes into the sour end of the pool. Sur i Hatten is a collab with Malmö bar Far i Hatten. It's a 4.9% sour made with Hibiscus flower and pink grapefruit. Twister is a 4.5% sour made with mango, passion fruit and raspberries. What are your favorite sour beers for the summer?
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #sourbeer #dugges
Time to knock some dust off some bottles. Martin deep dived into his cellar to bring out some classic beers. First up is De Struise Black Damnation II Mocha Bomb from 2018. We remember when Black Damnation bottles were all the rave for beer nerds so this really took us back. Black Damnation II Mocha Bomb is a 13% ABV Russian imperial stout matured on bourbon barrels. We discovered that Russian imperial stouts hold up better than most to long term storage because of the lack of adjuncts. Can this go the distance?@averybrewing used to put out the highest ABV beers around 10 years ago. Since then Avery has disappeared from the shelves in Sweden but thankfully we have a few remnants of the past. Uncle Jacob's Stout from 2016 is a 17.1% ABV imperial stout aged for 6 months on "the very finest bourbon barrels." #beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #russianimperialstout
We get a little rowdy this episode with some crazy big stouts. With all the craziness happening in the US these days, we thought it would be fun to remind everyone that beer doesn't care about politics. First up is Ranger Creek Brewing's Texas Bourbon Barrel Series Imperial Coffee Ale. This imperial brown ale clocks in at 11.6% ABV and gives you a warm bourbon, coffee kiss of happiness. We love Evil Twin Brewing NYC. They have been killing the beer game for years. The Great Northern Barrel Aged Series 29 is a 15% ABV imperial stout. Barrel-aged for 36 months in Sine Qua Non red wine barrels then in Henry McKenna 11yr old bourbon barrels before it's conditioned on bourbon soaked coffee and vanilla. That's a lot of work and the results really show the effort.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #imperialbrownale
We're hitting some UK beers this week. We don't see as many UK beers in the last few years. We miss them. Pressure Drop Brewing from London has been a brewery we've enjoyed a lot over the years. Street Porter is a 4.8% ABV English Porter. It's a classic interpretation of the style. Cloudwater might be our favorite brewery from UK. Based in Manchester, they blew up with their DIPAs but have been running the boards with different styles. Well Rested is an American Barleywine coming in at 11.3% ABV. It was aged in Marsala barrels for 12-months. It gives a strong sherry, toffee flavors.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #porter #barleywine
We love a birthday release. Anything for a party! When one of our favorite breweries releases a series of beers to commemorate their anniversary, we have to review them. Amundsen brewery is celebrating their 12th birthday with a series of beers. Chocolate, Vanilla & Peanut Butter Cup stout comes in at 12% ABV. It's a pastry stout with aforementioned additions. It's all the great stout goodness that you love from Amundsen. Next is Cherry, Blueberry, Chocolate & Coconut Lamington stout. This 13% bad boy reminds you of coming from a long day of mining opals in the Outback and then relaxing with a beer and lamington.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #pastrystout #amundsen
In these dark times it's great to see countries coming together to collaborate. Greek brewery Seven Island teamed up with Swedish Munklägrets to create a peach & vanilla wild ale. Forbidden Eden is peachy, tart and a little funky, just how we like it. Spainish brewers Basqueland Brewing met up with American Finback Brewery to give us a 17.5% ABV pastry stout. Omako Basoa is a chocolate, vanilla dessert in a can. It's part of their 10th anniversary line up. Here's to another 10 years!
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #wildale #pastrystout #imperialstout
Riket is usually packed. We never thought we would get a chance to record an episode there. We happened by right after they opened and it was empty. We took advantange of the situation. They had two Stigbergets beers on tap. Pale Ale is a 4.5% ABV classic American pale ale. It's a classic Stigbergets style. Oberoende NEIPA is part of the oberoende series of independent breweries. They have once again released a solid NEIPA at 6%. Riket is overlooked in the beer community in Malmö but very much worth a look.
#beer #drinks #craftbeer #paleale #neipa
We journey back to Spain for some more fun beers! Barcelona brewery Cyclic Beer Farm is all about that sour beer life. They specialize in farmhouse ales and sour beers. When Stefan found their Grisette he has to have it. This 3.3% ABV farmhouse ale didn't disappoint. It is light, funky and perfect for a dinner table or a hot summer day. DosKiwis Gravity+ is the opposite of a grisette. This 10% AVB milk stout is not a heavy thick pastry stout despite being conditioned on cacao beans and cinnamon. It's surprisingly thin and easy to drink.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #grisette #milkstout
We never thought we would see the day when you could by canned gueuze. The purist in us shudders at the thought. How could our sacred beer become something in a can? The practical side rejoices that we can grab and go with cans of gueuze for a warm summer day in the park. No heavy bottles to carry around. Tilquin Petite Gueuze is a 4% ABV drink on the go gueuze. It's light, refreshing and gives you a quick lambic hit when you need it. On the other hand we have Dry Dock Pumpkin Spice Bligh's Barleywine. This is a strong 13% ABV surprisingly good pumpkin spice beer. We aren't huge fans of anything pumpkin spiced. It was surprising to find such a treat. We think the Heaven Hill barrel aging gave it the edge.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #gueuze #pumpkinspice #barleywine
It's Easter! That means Easter Beers! We have a stellar lineup this year with lots of tasty treats. Not a single brown ale to be found this year. Instead we have dark lagers, extra special bitters, porters, hazy IPAs and Belgian strong dark ale. All of them would be great for your Easter table. This year we're reviewing Dugges Perfa Påsk, Poppels 2026 Easter Ale, Omnipollo Easter Egg, Brygghus 19 Easter Bunny IPA and Vreta Kloster Bryggeri Vetra Klosters Påsköl 2026.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #darklager #esb #porter #nipa #belgianstrongale
We visited Åhus Restaurang here in Malmö a few weeks back. Sadly, it closed at the end of February. We debated on posting this but since Åhus Bryggeri is still going strong, we wanted to feature their beers. We hope you enjoyed St. Patrick's Day and a pint or two. Bosse Dry Stout is an Irish dry stout coming in at 4.2% ABV. It's just in line with what you would expect from the style. Next up is Charley Barley an English barleywine at 13% ABV. This was a really pleasant treat. Lightly hopped with a nice caramel tone. While we'll miss Åhus Bryggeri & Restaurang, we'll still be able to enjoy their beers.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #irishstout #barleywine
Stefan made a little trip down to Barcelona to check out the beer scene. He found a lot of great places to try. Of course, he brought back beers to drink with Martin. GatBrewing is just getting started and they are off to a good start. Hopstronaut Nectaron aka. HOPSTRONAUT and the Wrath of Doctor NECTARON is a tropical NEIPA with nectaron and riwaka hops. DosKiwis has been around for a bit longer. Big Think is also a NEIPA but made with citra cryo, riwaka, nelson sauvin and motueka hops. It's two juicy, tropic beers this episode and we couldn't be happier.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #neipa
We finally made it to one of Malmö's oldest drinking establisments. Bullen was founded in 1897 and has continued to sling beer and simple dishes. Over the years it's evolved into a Malmö mainstay. We've been going for years. It never fails to provide a good time. They specialize in importing beers from Czech Monastery Zeliv. Based on their website, they are the only bar in the world where you can get these beers on tap. We start out with Poutovy Special Jirikovo Videni a 5% ABV Polish grodziskie. We never see these anywhere so of course we had to try it. Falco 14 is a 5.5% ABV dark larger. It's light, roasty and always a treat.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #grodziskie #darklager
We're back with another episode of local Swedish breweries. We have been featuring Smedsbo Slott quite a few times over the past couple of moths. It's always a wild ride. Like all their beers they include no information other than the name, ABV and style. Xocolatl is a 14.5% ABV pastry stout. We'll leave it at that. Benchwarmers teamed up with Amundsen Brewery to create Coconut Fjord. This is an 8% ABV stout made with cocoa nibs, muscovado sugar and coconut. It give Bounty.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #pastystout #stout
We're going a little more local this episode with a couple of Swedish breweries you might not have heard of before. Shapes and Objects is from Karlstad. They've been around for a couple of years and are just getting started. Sun Trip DDH Hazy IPA is a collab with Spanish brewers Malandar. Coming in at 6.2%, this IPA is filled with citra, mosiac, nelson sauvin and manalita hops. Malmö based Perfectly Squared has been expanding across the city more and more. Strawblime is a collab with Bottenvikens from Luleå in far North Sweden. This is a 4.5% ABV sour beer that's going for a strawberry daquiri experience.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #sour #ipa
Malmo Taproom had a tap takeover with Saez and Son from the Valenciana region of Spain. They had lots to try from TIPA to Pastry sours. It was tough to pick so we went with the two more interesting beers. Twisted Mary is a tomato gose that tastes more like vegetable or tomato juice than beer. Produced by their side project LOKO*, this beer will be really devisive. If you don't like tomato juice, you'll want to give it a pass. Palm Beach is a 6% ABV pastry sour with mango, platano and coconut milk. This is a rich delicous brew that you want to keep drinking.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #gose #pastrysour
As you know we love gueuze. It might be our favorite style. We don't get to review them very often but this episode we have two of them. Both of these are special editions. Oud Beersel Oude Geuze Vieille - Barrel Select Foeder 21 is from 2022. Aged on white wine barrels, this geuze was blended with two other lambics also aged on white wine barrels. Boon Mariage Parfait 10 Golden Anniversary Edition is a 10% ABV geuze released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Boon.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #gueuze #geuze #lambic
It's cold, dark days in Sweden so we need dark beers to keep us warm. Alesong has released a special edition of Rhino Suit. Rhino Suit - Swedish Edition is an 11% ABV double milk imperial stout. Made special for Sweden, this milk stout is a Heaven Hill bourbon-barrel-aged beer. It makes us feel special. It's not often we get double milk stouts at Systembolaget. When we saw Surly 13, a 12.5% ABV maple barrel-aged double milk imperial stout, we knew we had a great combo. Sadly, it wasn't specially brewed for Sweden.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #barrel-aged #imperialstout #milkstout
Omnipollo continues their ongoing series where they take a bunch of different breweries and come up with a beer. Then each brewery brews their version of that beer. It's a fun way to see how you can take the same beer and it's slightly interepreted by differently. It makes brewing feel more like jazz. Three Times Three Vol 7 is an 8% DIPA with yummy tropical notes. Spanish brewer Soma has been making some great IPA's recently. Mantra is a 6% IPA made with krush, citra and kohatu hops.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #dipa #ipa
We love a birthday and Neon Raptor is celebrating their 9th birthday. They released a trio of beers as part of the celebration. We got our hands on two of them. Ninth BIrthday Sour is a based on the Brititsh classic Victoria Sponge. This pastry sour is filled with strawberries, raspberries, vanilla and sponge cake. It wouldn't be a birthday without an imperial stout. Ninth Birthday Impy is an imperial stout filled with chocolate, hazelnuts and caramel biscuits.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #pastrystout #pastrysour
We had to take a break after last weeks high ABV bonanza. We needed to take things down a few notches. We're doing Dry January...for this episode at least. We've got the non-alcoholic beers from Omnipollo, Mikkeller and Sierra Nevada. The world of non-alcoholic beers has really changed. Gone are the days of lame flavorless pilsners and lagers. Breweries are really upping their game going for it. We got stouts, sours and IPAs.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #dryjanuary #stout #sourbeer #ipa #non-alcoholic
We hope your hangover isn't too bad. It's 2026 and we are cracking open a couple of bottles to kick the year off right. We've featured Smedsbo Slott quite a lot recently but that doesn't mean we don't want to keep trying their beers. Elektra Sauer Kveik is one of their highest ABV beers. Clocking in at 22% ABV, this sour ale uses wild fermented Kveik and a Belgian Quad grain bill. Omnipollo and Trillium Brewing team up again to give us Kanelbullar. This pastry stout is filled with cinnamon, cassia bark, vanilla, coconut and cardamom. They went full Swede on this.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #pastrystout #sourbeer
It's the last episode of the year. 2025 was a great year for trying beers. We hope you enjoyed the year as much as we did. We cap off the year with two really fun beers. 3 Fonteinen Oude Gueuze Season 17/18 Blend no 61 isn't just any old 3F Oude Gueuze. It's a special release that was basically only released in Sweden. There is a great story behind. The Bruery Barrel-Aged Three's Cocompany is a bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with coconut, vanilla beans, milk sugar and oat milk. It's definetly a dessert in a glass. Have a Happy New Year! See you in 2026.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #gueuze #imperialstout
It's the last day of our Advent 2025 calendar. We really hope you enjoyed this years selection. We had a lot of fun drinking everything. Day 24 ends things on a real high note. Pohjala makes a return to the calendar with Faraway Friends (Cellar Series). This 13.4% ABV imperial stout is a collab with Lervig. It's uses a Colossal rey whisky barrel with vanilla pods and coconut sugar. It's an amazingly tasty treat. Have a great holidays everyone!
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #imperialstout
We are almost done. After a couple of dusty oldies, we have something from a pretty new brewery. Day 23 gives us some eXcitement with X-Brewing. The Dutch brewery released an imperial coconut cereal pastry stout aged on Wild Turkey bourbon barrels. Project X #01 is a 12.7% ABV beer that somehow really works despite the weird concoction.
#beer #drinks #craftbeer #advent2025 #imperialstout
Day 22 is an old money beer from 2008. Djaevlebryg Old Mephisto Batch 1 is from 2008. This English barleywine clocks in at 10.5%. This really should have been toothpaste at this point. Somehow it's still holding in there. They really knew how to make beers last back in the day.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #barleywine
Day 21 brings another blast from the past...the very distant past. Many, many years ago there was an amazing brewery called Stronzo. They were a defunct brewery when we started 10 years ago. Even though Stronzo went away more than a decade ago, you can still find their beers around. Anniversary #2 celebrates their second anniversary. This bourbon barrel aged Russian imperial stout has past its prime but still has some life in her.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #imperialstout
Advent Day 20 closes out the last full week of Advent. Just four days left, I hope you're ready. P.i.g.s. Brew Co. Deadspace Opera is a collab with Emperor's Brewery. This 14% AVB imperial stout has peanut butter, toffee caramel and Madagascar vanilla. It's really a dessert in a can.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #imperialstout
A What's on Tap advent calendar wouldn't be complete without a To Ol beer. Day 19 gives us To Ol Mash Test Yummies BA. This 13.1% ABV imperial stout is made with hazelnuts, cocoa nibs and vanilla then aged for 12 months in a mix of bourbon, rum and wine barrrels. It's an awesome addition to the calendar.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #barrelaged #imperialstout
Advent 2025 Day 18 is full of fruity goodness. Arpus makes really great fruit smoothie beers. This one is Chili X Pineapple X Passionfruit X Apricot. The chili is nicely balanced against the rich fruit flavors. It's not too spicy but builds gradually while enjoying the beer.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #pastrysour
Advent 2025 has a week to go but don't worry, we still have plenty of days left. Day 17 gives us anoterh beer from Pohjala. Rukkirääk is a 5.9% ABV rye beer which is the Finnish name for a Corn Crane that lives mostly in rye fields. It has eight different malts and hopped with Cascade and Chinook hops.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #ryebeer #advent2025
Day 16 is a cellar deep dive. Stefan found a website that has a good collection of old beers. He was super excited to bring this one back for a try. Danish brewery Amager released Linda The Axe Grinder back in 2016. How does a 9% ABV American Barleywine hold up after 9 years? Opinions may vary.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #barleywine #advent2025
Day 15 is a real treat. Since Martin messed up on his theme he replaced a beer with a 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze. Not just any oude geuze but a Platinum Blend from the 18/19 release. No 82 is at a great point and ready to be consumed.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #geuze
It feels like if we had to pick a country of the year for 2025. It would be Poland. We've highlighted a lot of beers from the country this year. Even this calendar we've already had two beers from Poland. Day 14 features another brewery. Stu Mostow collaborated with Wylams to create Newcastle Donut. It's a pastry sour with mango, pineapple and donuts.
#beer #drinks #craftbeer #pastrysour #advent2025
We return to a familiar brewery on Day 13. The guys had both picked the same Smedsbo Slott beer. Stefan had to replace his so he got another Smedsbo Slott beer. Alfablot is a 16% ABV barleywine. Smedsbo Slott only knows how to make big beers and this one is huge.
#beer #drinks #craftbeer #advent2025 #barleywine
Advent Day 12 is another strong beer. We're a little weary of quadruple IPAs. They usually overly sweet to mask the high alcohol flavor. Dutch brewers White Dog created Resting at the Bottom of the Ocean in collaboration with Brazilian Cervejaria Escafandrista. This 12% ABV bad boy goes down a little too smooth.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #ipa #quadipa
Advent 2025 Day 11 is another dark beer. This time it's not a stout or barleywine. It's another type of dark beer, a black lager. Vinohradsky Black Panda is Tmave lager or dark Czech lager. A little hoppy, a little roasty and 100% drinkable.
#beer #drinks #craftbeer #advent2025 #blacklager #tmave #lager
Advent 2025 Day 10 is from one of our favorite breweries. We've enjoyed quite a few beers from them this year. Funky Fluid Gelato XTREME: Berries and Cream doesn't disappoint. It continues their hits with a pastry sour of raspberries, blackcurrants and blueberries with an extra marshmallow and vanilla kick.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #funkyfluid #pastrysour
Sweden has a chocolate "treat" called choklaboll. It's a mixture of sugar, oats and butter. It's covered in chocolate and coconut. Day 09 gives us Brygglabbet Har Efterratten Chokladboll , a beer version.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #chokladboll #imperialstout
On the 8th day we dip our toes back into the deep end of the pool with a bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. Puhaste Oathbinder Bourbon BA is an imperial stout with mayple syrup and vanilla. It's a dessert in a glass.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #stout #advent2025
Advent Day 07 slows things down a bit. We're getting off the high ABV train for a moment to enjoy a little sour beer. Holy Goat Bramble Smasher mixed fermentation golden sour with Scottish blackberries. It's tart treat with lots of jammy goodness.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #sourale #blackberry #advent2025
Advent Day 06 asks only one question, are you ready to rock? You better be cause we have a triple IPA from Dutch brewers Rock City Brewing. Euro Tipa is a 9.5% ABV tipa made with hallertau blanc, callista and styrian dragon hops. It's a really good party.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #tipa #advent2025
Advent 2025 Day 05 has us up in Norway. Rygr Hugin Imperial Stout is another fun entry in the calendar. This 13% ABV stout doesn't hold back. It's a little sweet with a strong roasty finish. Of course the Norwegians know how to make a kick ass imperial stout.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #imperialstout
Advent 2025 Day 04 has us over in the Baltics with a Polish Baltic Porter from ReCraft. Mentor III is a classic porter with roasted almost smoked notes from the malts and hints of dark bread and chocolate.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #balticporter #porter #advent2025
Advent 2025 Day 03 is a mild day, a Smedsbo Slott mild day. XXXXAle is a 13.5% ABV mild ale. Smedsbo Slott is Sweden's reigning king of making high AVB ales. The lowest ABV we could find is 9.5%, it just goes up from there. XXXXAle is a collab with Shapes & Objects.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #mildale
Advent 2025 Day 02 takes it down a notch with a bitter. Woodforde's Nelson is a traditional English bitter. Most canned bitters are flat and uninteresting. Woodforde's Nelson is a real treat. Smooth, roasty and malty, at only 4.5% ABV, you can easily have a few of these.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #bitterale
It's the first day of Advent. That can only mean one thing, it's time to start the What's on Tap Podcast 2026 Advent calendar. Day 01 brings us a classic from Italian brewery Crak. Monsueto 2024 is a 13% ABV barleywine. Sweet, boozy, and packed with caramel and fig notes, what a great way to start the calendar.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2025 #barleywine
Oooo...wheeeee...it's time for the holiday's to begin. We kick off the season as always with a fine collection of Christmas ales from Systembolaget. Every year we get more and more to choose from. This year's collection has some interesting choices. We review beers from Omnipollo, Brewski, Dugges, Stockholms Brygghus, Götaälvdalens Brygghus and Rocky Point Brewery. Next week is the start of the 2025 Advent Calendar and we have some fun beers lined up.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #adventcalendar #advent2025 #lager #nabeer #viennalager #schwarzbier #imperialstout #winterale
The final episode before we start our holiday beer festivities. A friend of Martin's gave us three beers from Lithuanian. Volfas Engelman has over 340 beers listed on Untapped. This is part of their Alaus Laiskai or Beer Letters series. We got to try 100% Cryo Hops IPA, a 5.7% AVB IPA. Next up is Funky Lambic, a 5.5% AVB sour lambic style beer. Finally, we get Fig Stout Twist, a 4.6% ABV style stout. They call it a "special technology beer with fig flavor." It's a trip to a country that doesn't export beers. We were really happy to get to try them.

We're heading into the holiday season. This means we're excited to start our advent calendar but we can't start yet. To fill the time we drank some beers. Omnipollo Practice the Art of Connection is a collab with DIPA experts Verdant. This 8% ABV DIPA is made at their church brewery in Sundbyberg, Sweden. Pohjala Evening Colours is part of the Cellar Series. This barrel-aged imperial Baltic porter is aged in Tawny Port casks for 22 months. Worth a try but it depends on how you enjoy port aged beers.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #dipa #imperialstout
We're feeling a little fruity this episode. We need more fruited beers. Rodenbach has always been a solid, dependable brewery cranking out Flemmish red ales for a long time. Recently they have started experimenting more. Evolved Caractere is a raspberry and mango sour beer that's somehow light on all of those things. At 7.2% ABV, we want stronger flavours. We had Fidens a couple of episodes ago. It was a peach IPA. Now we're getting a full fruid bomb. Fidens Blending Dreams is a series of fruit forward beers. We got the orange, lime and pineapple version. It's an explosion of flavours.

Fall has arrived and just in time for Halloween we found some scary fun beers. Brauhaus Riegele Weizen Doppelbock Augustus is a classic German style that you don't find very often. A weizen doppelbock is a top-fermented beer with a fuity, roasty taste. We will never say no to a traditional German style. Koningshoeven La Trappe Quadrupel is a Belgian Quadrupel from the people that know how to make this style. It's nutty, fruity with hints of vanilla cloves. At 10% ABV, you can't really have more than one but you'll really enjoy the one you have.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #doppelbock #quadrupel #belgianquadrupel #weizendoppelbock
We have a couple of heavy hitters today. Fidens and Brujos are two of the top hazy beer creators in the US. If you get lucky enough to try their beers, don't pass up on the chance. We certainly didn't. Fidens Jasper with Peach is their classic Jasper NEIPA make with citra hops, but they added peaches. It's a fun mix of peaches and IPA. Brujos TDH San Nosferatu is a triple dry-hopped NEIPA. They went crazy with the hops on this one. Citra, Nelson Sauvin, Maui Nelson, Nelson Hyperboost and Citra Cryo all went into this beer. It sounds like it would be a hoppy mess but it works.

Martin also went to Poland this year. He went to Wrocław. It's just Northwest of Krakow. While he was there he tried many many many many many many beers. He also found a couple to bring back with him. First is from Inne Beczki. Martin thought Miami would be a sour beer. Instead it's a pale lager or as they call it, an American lager. We follow that up with Browar Amber Woodside. This an imperial porter with an ABV of 10.5%. Both were quite a lot of fun to try and we look forward to more beers from Poland.

We're keeping the Danish theme alive this week with a new brewery and a closed brewery. Tiny Hill in Copenhagen just has 4 beers listed on UnTapped. Merrimack is one of their first beers. It's a 5.5% ABV hazy IPA. Björn drops some serious Civil War knowledge on us about the Merrimack and its ties to Sweden. Baghaven was one of our favorite brewery and probably the last best thing Mikkeller has done. Sadly, it is no more but their wild ales are here to remind us of better times. Art Decadence Blend 1 is a Danish wild ale with cherries, red vineyard peaches, cabernet cortis grapes and vanilla beans. It's about 5 years old and it holds up pretty well.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #wildale #hazyipa #ipa
Björn and Stefan were in Copenhagen the other day and discovered a new brewery. Brewsketeers is a new contract brewer in Copenhagen. They have a bottle shop called The Beer Hive in Amager. They fortunate enough to visit The Beer Hive before running into one of the onwers at Peders. West Coast Warrior is a collab with another Danish brewery, Ghost Brewing. This 6.5% ABV American style IPA is made with Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe. Next up is Fluffy, a collab with Thyras Bryg. This 5.2% hazy IPA is made with Citra, Mosiac and Nectaron hops. We look forward to trying more beers from this fledgling brewery.

10 Year is a long time. We can hardly believe it ourselves. To celebrate we brought together Björn and Martin to go head to head in our toughest Game of Beers yet! Five rounds, winner takes all for the ultimate bragging glory. Who knows their beer trivia? Who can pick the right lager? It was a very close race but only one could survive. We want to thank everyone that has participated on the show all these years! We have a lot more to go.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks
We've talked about Malmö Taproom many times but did you know they have a second bar (some would say hidden) bar? Just behind Malmö Taproom is Malmo Mead and Cocktail Bar. It's a small room with lots of meads, cocktails and craft beer. We tried the cleverly titled Ask Staff IPA. This is a solid IPA that wasn't on the Taproom menu. We followed that up with a couple of meads, Tropical Blueberry and Exclusive Peach. These are part of the new trend of meads of being bright, fruity and not honey syrup. Tropical Blueberry is a meger 7% ABV while Exclusive Peach comes in at 12%. It's a fun place to check. You'll find some extra beers that aren't part of Malmö Taprooms menu.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #mead #ipa #malmotaproom
If you're a bar and you're only going to serve one beer, it better be a good one. In Malmö, we have a series of Czech inspired bars that only serve the same beer. Now, we have a kolsch style bar. Based on the German concept, Gaststatte kolsch has one beer, Muhlen kolsch. It's only served one size, 20cl. They will keep bringing you glasses as long as you don't tell them to. It's a great experience and highly recommended if you're in town.

Summe is over and the fall is fast approaching. To celebrate Martin dusted off some forgotten beers from his cellar to remind us that somethings don't need to be saved forever. Traquair 900 (2007) is an English barleywine. Barleywines are great to age...for a little while. After awhile it comes oddly minty. Not sure why it does but it's an instant clue your barleywine has past it's prime. Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout used to a sought after stout, back in 2006. Nine years later, it's not as trendy or hyped and shouldn't be aged this long. Cardboard and lifeless, if you're holding on to stouts, it's time to drink them.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #russianimperialstout #imperialstout #barleywine
As the summer starts to wind down, we still want to take a moment to apprecaite the sun and fun. What better way then with two light, refreshing sour beers. Drottningholms Sur blends blueberries, black currants and honey for a heavy hitting 7% AVB sour. Flying Guru Hrym is a farmhouse ale aged for 14 months and 8 months on riesling grapes before being dry-hopped with Nelson Sauvin. Also at 7% ABV, it's summertime in a glass.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #sourbeer #farmhouseale
We got to try a double shot of Drowned Lands. It's a new brewery from the US for us. Fern is a 6.5% ABV NEIPA. Made with lots of wheat and oats and hopped with strata and citra, it's a juicy little number. With a name like Fern you would think it would be more earthy. Black Gold Coffee is a straight down the middle bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with coffee. With a 10.5% ABV, it's a solid stout with not a lot of bells and whistles.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #neipa #imperialstout
After featuring Funky Fluid/Nerdbrewing collab last week, we thought it woudl be fun to return to Poland and try some more beers. Funky Fluid Gelato is their marquee beer. They crank out a lot of them. Stefan picked up Plum and Cherry Jam Gingerbread. Swedes love these flavors so it's only natural that we should have this beer on the show. At 5.5% AVB you can expect lots of flavor and excitement from the Gelato series (individual experiences may vary). Browar Kingpin is a new brewery for us. Burlesca says it's a farmhouse ale or saison. We didn't find it to be either of those things. This saison was aged in Rondo dry red wine barrels.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #pastrysour #farmhouseale #saison #polishbeer #sourbeer
Hannes over at Nerdbrewing has been quite for a while. After leaving Molecule he's taken some time to figure out his next step. Now he's back with two killer collabs. First is a collab with Smedsbo Slott called Karamellstout. This is a 12% ABV imperial stout that uses Palo Santo (listen to find out what that is) and vanilla. It's an interesting blend that really works well together. Up next is a collab with Polish brewers extrodinare, Funky Fluid. BA Royal Cookie S'more smells like chocolate chip cookies and tastes great. Lots of chocolate, barrel-aging and the level of imperial stout goodness you would expect. It's great to see Nerdbrewing back on the shelves and we're looking forward to what comes next.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #stout #barrelagedstout
We had some fun this episode. We got two beers to put us right in the mood to drink beer. (Honestly, all beers put us right in the mood to drink beer.) Norwegian brewery Salikatt Camel Up is an 8% AVB hazy DIPA. Made with citra dynaboost, citra cryo and galaxy hops, it packs a fruity, delicious punch. Moersleutel Barcode: Nitro Blue is part of the excellent barcode series. This is a collaboration with O'Hara's Brewery. Be sure to shake it first to get the nitrogen activated. Once you do, turn it up and let it rip. The reward is a smooth, chocolate, barrel-aged treat.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #dipa #neipa #nitrostout #imperialstout
Summer sours are the best kind of sours. Martin reached into his cellar and brought out a couple of treats for us to try. Originally released in 2019, Speciation Extropian is a wild ale with peaches, cinnamon and vanilla. It was part of the Mikkeller Beer Club, back when that was a thing. We follow it with Side Project Blueberry Flanders (Blend #2). This is a Flanders style red ale aged in Missouri oad red wine barrels with Missouri blueberries. Sadly, not a single Missourian was present for the tasting.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #sourale #wildale
Stefan went on a bit of a summer trip and brought back some beers. He visited Poland. The craft beer scene in Poland is strong and very alive. He was able to visit tons of craft beer bars and didn't try the same beer twice. Browar Artezan has released a traditional Polish beers style called a grodziskie. It's a light abv beer with hints of smoke. Fafik comes in at 3.5% and brings in a little hops with nectaron and chinook. This is followed up with Ziemia Obiecana's Grand Kru. It's a sour beer made with white grapes and nelson sauvin hops. These were a lot of fun to try and great for the summer.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #grodziskie #sourbeer #polishbeer
It's summer and we need to cool off. Fortunately we have beers! Goteborgs Nya Bryggeri is bringing the passion to all the hot steamy days with Summer Passion. This Berliner Weisse is packed with raspberry and passion fruit. At only 4.7% ABV, it will help you cool off. Broughton Brewery Wee Jock 90 Shilling is a wee heavy or scotch ale. It's not a light sour beer but it is a light, easy to drink and not heavy at all. Stay cool everyone!
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #weeheavy #scotchale #berlinerweisse
It was the best of time. It was the worst of times. Martin brought two beers for this episode, which includes one of Stefan's least favorite styles. Next to Black IPA, witbier is his one of his least favorites. There's a reason in 674 episodes there have never been a review. We love our virginity to Common Roots Spinner. This 4.5% ABV witbier has corriander and orange peel giving it a bit of citrus notes. Burning Sky Anniversaire lifts things back up. This 7% farmhouse ale brings the funk. It's a classic from Burning Sky and this years is just as much funky fun as the pervious years.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #witbier #saison #farmhouseale
We're in the heart of the summer and we need some IPA's to cool us down. It's a perfect time for this! We start with Spyglass Borealis. This NEIPA comes in at 8.1% ABV made with British Ale yeast and hopped with Citra, NZ Rakau and EU Enigma. This is a stone fruit bomb. Finback Oscillation 040 is part of their NEIPA line. 040 is the latest version. It's dry hopped with Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe and Rakau. Tropical fruity and just what we want on a warm summer day.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #neipa
Even though it's bright and sunny, we still like to keep it dark. First up we're treated to a collaboration between great breweries. Stigbergets teamed up with The Kernel to create a traditional English porter. Taking inspiration from an 1800's London Porter recipe, Victorian Porter is a roasted delight. We follow that up with a big imperial stout from Nogne. Also inspired by Victorian times, Ship-Shape and Briston Fashion is a reference to the condition of the ship. Based on this, it was in very good condition.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #englishporter #porter #imperialstout #stout
It's time to play Martin's favorite game. Let's discover a new brewery. It's not so much a game as an obesssion. This time he found a brewery from Ontario, Canada. Badlands Brewing has some releases at Systembolaget so we jumped at the chance to try them. Secret Wave is an annual release of a Hazy IPA. Made with galazy, nectaron and simcoe, it's got tons of tropical and citrus notes. Badlands does a monthly DIPA release. They start with a base recipe and then go crazy with the hops. March DIPA uses peacharine, HBC 1019 and sabro hops. It's a peachy treat!
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #dipa
We're all about education on this show. Over the years we've learned a lot about beer and beer styles. This episode we learn about NEIPA and how to best store them. Stefan has been doing this for years but Batch Brewing is educating the masses. Because NEIPA tend to settle over time, they created This Side Up, a NEIPA at 8.5% ABV. The label is upside down so you know which way to put in your fridge. Funky Fluid is teaching us that beer can be any color you want. They went with purple. Gelato XTREME: Blue Velvet is an 8% ABV pastry sour made with bananas, berries and ube, a type of blue yam.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #pastrysour #neipa
We know summer is approaching but that doesn't mean we're leaving our favorite dark, heavy beers behind. We had to try couple of the highest ABV beers released by Swedish breweries this year. Smedsbo Slott is beginning to become a regular on the show. Pascha is a called a stout on Untappd but they call it a Seasonal Ale. What's a seasonal ale? Who knows...but at 14.5% ABV, it will put you in a festive mood. Ekero Brygghus Barley Wine is an English Barleywine that is aged in Irish whisky barrels. The barley wine really picked up the peat notes from barrel. This one will knock your socks off if you love peat smoke. At 15.5% ABV, like a fine whisky, it's a sipper.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #barleywine
This episode was recorded before the tragic loss of Li. She was an amazing woman and helped create in the Malmö beer scene. She will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to Anders, Malmö Taproom and everyone affected by her passing.
We haven't reviewed a Malmo Brewing beer from Malmö Taproom in a long time. They got a new head brewer last year and we felt it was time to check in with them to see if things have changed. Björn from Björnguiden joins us this episode. Goodnik is a new hazy IPA made with nelson, waiti and nectaron. This is a really good start and a vast improvement over the hazy IPAs they have been making over the past few years. Malmö Brings all the Boys to the Yard is an imperial milkshake IPA at 10.1% ABV. It's a collab with Finnish brewers Tuju. Made with lactose, peach and vanilla, it was surprisingly drinkable and the 10.1% ABV could not be found. Lastly we tried an imperial pastry stout called Invisible Thunder. Filled with coconut, espresso beans and vanilla, it's also a heavy hitter at 11.3% AVB, This was quite the improvement over what we have tried in the past. Things are really starting to turn around!
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #ipa #neipa #hazyipa #imperialstout #milkshakeipa
Summer is fast approaching so we wanted to look at some lighter beers. Wapno Lya Belgian Blonde is a 6% ABV that gets a little Belgian-ish without deep diving into the pure Belgian funkyness. Funky Fluid Free Szarlotka is a non-alcoholic apple pie gelato. It really hits the apple and cinnamon notes and feels like it would be a great non-alcoholic beer for the warm summer months.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #belgianblonde #nonalcoholicbeer
We looked over the shelves at Systembolaget and found a couple of things that grabbed our interest. Two classic breweries have beers out. One is a classic and one is...something else. Nynashamns Angryggeri has been releasing some great traditional beers for years. Svenska Ölfrämjandet 40 år Jubileumsöl is a dark mild that celebrates their 40th anniversary. A dark mild isn't a strong style and it's hard to rate. This one is really solid. Schneider Weisse Cuvee Barrique (TAPX) 2018 is a weizenbock. It's a sour wheat beer with a heavy emphasis on sour. It's a crazy taste sensation for sure.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #darkmild #weizenbock
Martin made a trip to Stockholm and picked up some beers. The subway system in Stockholm is amazing and worth the time to ride each line to see all the different decorations per stop. It's a lot of fun. Martin stopped on the Grona Linjen or Green Line because they have beers. He picked up two beers from them. Bira Bira Bira is a nice lager at 5% ABV. Högdalen is a 6.2% English IPA. It's always fun to try a new brewery and we'll be riding the Grona Linjen again soon.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #ipa #lager
We searched around Systembolaget and found a couple of beers that peeked our interest. Martin found a Belgian IPA from Brouwerij-Kerkon. Hop Verdomme is a 7% ABV featuring 7 Flemish hops, which if 7 more than we were aware of. Stefan found an Irish dry stout from Sullivan's brewing. Black Marble comes in at 5.1% and give Guiness a run for it's money. It's a deeply roasted stout that really hits the spot.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #irishstout #dryirishstout #stout #ipa #belgianipa
It's Easter so that means it's time for Easter beers! What are Easter beers? I used to be boring lagers and brown ales but now it's just beers with an Easter theme. There were 108 beers released at Systembolaget to mark the holiday. Sadly, most of them didn't make it to shops in Malmö. We were able to find a few on the shelves. First is Bökebergs Bryggeri Big Red, a amber lager at 6% ABV. Next is Nynäshamns Ångbryggeri Pumpviken Påsköl, a traditional Strong Mild ale 5.6% AVB. Lastly, Perfectly Squared Brewing Resurrection, a barrel-aged Påskmust flavoured stout at 5.6%. Happy Easter and Glad Påsk!
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #easterbeer #lager #mildale #stout #påsk
We got some heavy hitters this episode. Big beers are always in season no matter the weather. Beerium has released their annual stout called Beeriums Friendly Giant 2025. Filled with notes of liquorice and chocolate, this stout is roasted really hard and the flavors come through. One of our favorite Norwegain breweries Lervig has come out their annual barleywine release Paragon 2023. This barrel aged beauty is always one of our favoite releases of the year.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #barleywine
Martin and Stefan remember when Cascade Brewing released beers into the European webshops. It was a huge moment for EU beer nerds. 10 years later, Cascade has ceased production sadly. They lament the demise of the sour powerhouse that helped bring sour beers to the mainstream. Cascade Blueberry Ale 2015 is from that first release and after 10 years, it's got a lot of life in it. It could probably go another 10 years. They follow it up with another sour powerhouse beer brewery, The Bruery Terreux. Sans Pagaie 2017 is a sour blonde ale with cherries. Their version of a Belgian Kriek.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #sourbeer #kriek #wildale
Do you like Finnish beers? Of course you do. It's beer! We got to try two Finnish beers that are very local. Panimoyhtio Tuju Pumpattava Barbaari really excited Martin as his love of Conan the Barbarian is legendary. It's a simple 5% AVB lager that is great to drink after you crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women. Tuletorn Brewing has dropped Astelpaju Juju. This smoothie sour is filled with mango with a touch of sea buckthorn. Two very different beers from breweries we hope to start seeing in Sweden.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #lager #finland #smoothiesour
Another week brings an new collection of beers. Up first is from a hot new Finnish brewery Factory Brewing. Cosmic Dance is an exciting hazy DIPA made with Citra, Nelson Sauvin and Galaxy hops. We're looking forwad to trying more of their beers. Hopfully we get some Sweden soon. We paired it with a 3F Oude Geuze Blend No 49 from season 23/24. It's a 6% gueuze that gives lots of apple and funky notes. For a young gueuze it's really exicting.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #dipa #neipa #gueuze
As spring is moving towards us, it's time to put away heavy beers and start thinking about lighter fare. We love sour and fruited beers. Martin was able to procure two subjects for today's episode. Fruktrocket Frukinger Plum is a 6% fruited sour beer that gives us a kiss of plum. Collective Arts Mango, Lime and Jalapeno gose sounds like it might a spicy little number. It's full of mango with a bit of lime and just a jalapeno heat to keep things interesting. Let's bring the heat!
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #fruitbeer #sourbeer #gose
We haven't had many Romanian beers. Stefan was able to track down a couple of beers from a Romanian brewery called Clandestin. After butchering the name a few times, Stefan finally figrued out how to pronouce Non Perignon, a 7.5% ABV NEIPA. Brewed in collaboration with Voodoo Craft Brewery (not the US Voodoo), this NEIPA is made with motueka and citra. Space Cake is an imperial stout made with hazelnuts, caramel, vanilla and cinnamon for a rich pastry stout. It's always fun to find new craft beers from around the world.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #neipa #dipa #imperialstout
Martin went dumpster diving on some webshops and found a couple of Founders barrel aged beers. Released years ago, who knows what horrors they have seen in warehouses and shelves. Remember when Founders was a thing? They've really disappeared from the European market the last few years. Velvet Rush (2021) is a brown ale which should have notes of coffee, chocolate and vanilla extract. Milk sugar was added before being barrel aged. Needless to say, most of that was missing. Nemesis is a straight up American style barleywine, which means it should be a little hoppy tasting. The have definetly faded on this.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #brownale #barleywine #founders
We got the gang together to cover three beers from Polish brewery Pinta. It got a little crazy and really went off the rails in several points. But that's to be expected when you get everyone together to podcast. We start with Risfactor Coconut and Coffee. This 11% ABV coffee stout starts us out with high expectations. Then we move to Liberty, a vanilla, coocnut and coffee imperial stout aged on bourbon barrels. At only 13% ABV, it's a smooth drink. Finally we end with Affection, the last of our coconut, coffee beers. This one also has cocoa nibs and vanilla and is aged on bourbon barrels for 18 months. It comes in at 12% ABV. Three coconut, coffee beers from one great brewery.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #pintabrewing
We're keeping it local with two more Swedish breweries. Especially ones we haven't reviewed before. Sad Robot Velvet Opression is part of the Sveriges Oberoende Bryggerier release that we discussed last week. Velvet Opression is a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. We really got into this one. At only 5.2% ABV, it takes like a fruit cake made with really dark rye bread. Brygghus 19 is back on the show with International Haze Double Pineapple Ed. It's 2x pineapple, 1x mango, 1x hops. All the fun we've come to expect.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #belgianstrongdarkale #neipa
Sveriges Oberoende Bryggerier is a collection of independent Swedish breweries. They have been releasing beers with the same label for a few months to show the depth and scope of independent Swedish brewers. We featured several of them during the 2025 Advent calendar. So far they have released over 30 beers. It's great to try so many different styles from so many different local breweries.
We tried three releases this episode. Beer Barons released a pilsner coming at 4.7% ABV and made with Nelson Sauvin hops. Next is BarlinBeer with a hazy IPA. It's 7.2% AVB with simcoe and citra hops. Finally we have Örebro Brygghus with a 5% ABV zwickel pils. If you see these on the shelf, grab some and try something from a local brewery.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #pilsner #ipa #zwickel
The holidays might be behind us but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate some Saints. Dugges has released a trilogy of barrel aged imperial stouts. Saint Nick is a Barbados rum barrel aged imperial coffee, cocoa, coconut and vanilla stout. Saint Vance is a Indiana Rye whiskey barrel aged imperial coffee, cocoa, coconut and vanilla stout. Lastly, Saint Bard is a Kentucky bourbon barrel aged imperial coffe, cocoa cocnut and vanilla stout. All three were made in collaboration with Fuerst Wiacek.

Slovakia is a beautiful country with a rich history. There is so much to see and do while you're there. While you'll find a lot of traditional breweries serving lagers and old world styles, the new beer scene is still in it's nacient days. Cierny Kamen is raising the craft beer game. We got to try two of their beers: Riwaka Time and Nexthopoit. Riwaka Time is a 5%ABV NEIPA made with...you guessed it...Riwaka hops. Nexthopoit is a 6.2% ABV NEIPA made with Talus, Sabro and Sultana hops.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #neipa #ciernykamen
Stefan did some travelling over the holidays. He made it to Vienna, and of course, he picked up some beers. While you can find lots of great beers in Austria, you can't find a lot of craft beer. Fear not, he was able to find an incredible marzen from Bierschmiede. Werkstruk is a 5.2% ABV marzen that makes us sad we can't drink it all year round. We jump into the Bavarian region with one of our favorite breweries Schlenkerla. Their smoked beers are always a treat. Erle is a schwarzbier. A smoked black lager is just what we need!
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #marzen #schwarzbier
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Welcome to 2025 and our first episode of the year. We don't want to waste any time and get right to it with two exciting beers. Poppels Grand Cru Strong Ale is a 12.6% ABV strong ale brewed with Swedish brewers Smedsbo Slott. THis strong agle is barrel aged strong ale hits strong but finishes with honey, raisins and a little marzepan. Drake's Santa's Brass: Heaven Hill is an English barleywine clocking in at 14.6% ABV. Filled with bourbon barrel notes and dark fruit, this barleywine really helps kick off the new year!
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #strongale #dugges #barleywine
That's a wrap for 2024. We hope you enjoyed the episodes as much as we enjoyed making them. We'll end the year on with a couple of beers from two of our favorite breweries. Martin brought 3 Fonteinen Prium Mirabelle blend no 25. This geuze has Mirabelle plums added and was added to Olorosso barrels. This is one of our favorite blends that 3F makes. Stefan brought Lervig Silent Exchange by Rackhourse. The Rackhouse series is an outstanding line from Lervig. They always bring a high level of quality and flavor. Silent Exchange is a collaboration with Pohjala. They take the imperial stout and blend Finnish rye, maple syrup and put it in bourbon barrels. Have a happy holidays every and we'll see you in 2025.

All good things must come to an end and on day 24 of our 2024 Advent Calendar, we are going our in style. Närke Kulturebryggeri has released several Kaggen Stormaktsporters over the years. This 2021 edition is the Skotsk-Kaggen Stormaktsporter. It's their traditional imperial stout aged on Scotch whiskey barrels. What a great end to a wonder calendar. Have a happy holidays!

Advent 2024 Day 23 is the penultimate day of our little calendar. Dugges has been making lots of IPAs, sours and big imperial stouts. This little gem is a bourbon barrel-aged vanilla and chocolate stout. Lxy is rich and delicious with loads of vanilla and aged on Heaven Hill barrels for 36 months. Then they add grounded Standout Chocolate Dominican Republic cocoa nibs.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #imperialstout #stout
Advent 2024 Day 22 is the antepenultimate beer in our calendar. Ryssby Bryggeri continues our Swedish theme with a beer that asked a simple question, What the HELLES? This kolsch beer keeps it simple with a light, refreshing beer that is probablyl better on a warm summer day than a cold winter night.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #kolsch
Advent 2024 Day 21 is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. Moody Tongue Bourbon Barrel Aged Gingerbread Imperial Stout from 2018 is bringing the holiday cheer. Moody Tongue Brewing Company is a micro brewery out of Chicago. This imperial stout has cinnamon and vanilla and is aged for 12 months on Heaven Hill bourbon barrels.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #imperialstout #stouts
Advent 2024 Day 20 keeps it simple. Swedish nano brewery Potum is just getting started. Their No Rain is a 5.3% ABV helles. Simple clean and drinkable...but also our most controverisal beer of the calendar.

Advent 2024 Day 19 is a favorite of ours, the pastry sour. Mortalis Echidna is a fruited smoothie sour blending coconut, mango, kiwi, banana and pineapple. It's a total fruit smoothie with a 7% AVB. Mortalis does great pastry sours and this really hits the spot.

Advent 2024 Day 18 has us celler diving. We go waaaaaaaaaay back in time to find a classic beer. This Greene King Strong Suffolk Vintage Ale is from 2007. At only 6% ABV, should it really have been cellared so long? We had to find out. In 2013, this beer was renamed to Strong Suffolk Dark Ale. It might be the oldest beer we've ever reviewed.

Advent 2024 Day 17 brings us another Oberoende beer. This time from Nyköping Brewing Co. Oberoende Rököl is a smoked beer made with beachwood smoked malts, Munich malts and dehusked black malk. Then they add some Magnum hops. The result is a lightly smoked easy drinking smoked beer.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #smokedbeer
Advent 2024 Day 16 features a blond. Vreta kloster Bryggeri is one of the many participants in the independent brewery releases. There are around 30 beers released so far. Oberoende belgisk blond is a 6.6% ABV Belgian blonde. They are really great at deep diving into traditional Belgian styles. We always look forward to their releases.

Advent 2024 Day 15 is from NYC. Evil Twin NYC has released Walking Down the Streets of NYC with a Christmas Tree Is Completely Normal. This is a NEIPA coming in at 6.5%. It's double dry-hopped with citry and galaxy hops. The result is a very drinkable NEIPA that won't look out of place when you're walking down the streets of NYC with a Christmas tree.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #neipa
Advent 2024 Day 14 takes us to Belgium and the amazing Cantillion gueuze. Kriek 100 Lambic Bio 2020 is a cherry lambic. At 4 years old, it's still really strong. The great things about Cantillion lambics is that they really start coming to life around 5 years. We're at a good spot but this could use a couple more years.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #lambic #kriekgueuze #gueuze #advent2024 #adventcalendar
Advent 2024 Day 13 keeps us in Sweden with Nääs Barley Wine 2024. This is part of their 10 year celebration and just in time for Christmas. We're glad to celebrate with them. It's a very traditional barley wine the keeps the style without adjunct or barrel aging.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #barleywine #advent2024 #adventcalendar
Advent 2024 Day 12 comes from Swedish brewery Brewhuslan. Bloody is a red ale. This calendar is bringing us lots of different styles. We weren't sure what to expect but the can art really hooked us.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #redale
It wouldn't be an Advent Calendar if we didn't feature a beer from the brewery that started it all. Day 11 is To Ol 365 Day of Darkness 2023. This dopplebock was aged in calvados and cognac barrels. We're really excited about this and we'll always feature a To Ol beer in the calendar.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #dopplebock #barrelaged
Advent 2024 Day 10 brings us Weldwerks Brewing German Chocolate Cake. We've had a very few milk stouts on the show over the years. Largely because there aren't a lot of milk stouts out there. Weldworks Brewing made milk stout with pecans, coconut, dark chocolate, milk sugar and vanilla. It takes a boring 5.5% ABV beer and jacks it up a few notches.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #milkstout
Advent 2024 Day 09 takes us back to Sweden with Svartbergets Highlands. We don't see many breweries doing Scottish Ales. We love traditional styles and always look for a chance to feature them on the show. A scottish ale is a malty ale with a light roasty, caramel body that's easy to drink. Highlands is a traditional scottish ale that is very much to style.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #scottishale
Advent 2024 Day 08 is a big ole stout from the masters of big ole stouts in the Netherlands Moersleutel. We used to have a lot of their beers to review a few years ago but we backed off them a little. Cinnamon Bun Plasterer is another imperial stout this time with raisins, cinnamon, vanilla, tonka beans, coffee and cassonade sugar. It's really going for that cinnamon bun experience. Moersleutel never backs away from a big ole stout.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #imperialstout #stout
Advent 2024 Day 07 brings us winter cheer as always. It's sad that Mikkeller's Baghaven is no more. They did great wild ales. Ensenada Batch 1 is a prime example of that. This Danish wild ale aged in tequila barrels and blended with red grapefruit, sea salt and sabro hops creating an almost gose like experience. You've very lucky if you still have one of these. Might be a good time to open it.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #wildale
Advent 2024 Day 06 is a delight. Some said it was a collaboration that would never happen. Some said it's a collaboration that shouldn't happen. But Omnipollo and Närke Kulturebryggeri collaborated on a version of the Närke Kaggen series. Tårt-Kaggen is a double imperial porter with heather honey, bourbon barrels with raw and toasted coconut, Madagascan vanilla steeped in buffalo trace and heaven hill bourbon for 3 years plus freshly cut volcanic vanilla. Omnipollo doesn't hold back when they make a beer. They definitely kicked this up a notch.
#beer #drinks #craftbeer #imperialporter #porter #omnipollo #advent2024 #adventcalendar
Advent 2024 Day 05 brings something a little different. So far we've had big stouts and barleywines and a relaxing geuze. Now it's time to get a little rough. Vault City makes great sour beers. They are really under valued. They are always cranking out odd combinations and flavors. Vault Dweller is a real kick in the teeth with it's upfront sour candy flavors. Vault City describes as "More Sour" and they aren't wrong. This green beer will really get your mouth to pucker.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #sourbeer
Advent 2024 Day 04 brings us an old friend. Nerdbrewing has been doing big stouts for a long time. They teamed up with Emperor's Brewing out of the UK for this one. Brute Force is an imperial stout with dark forest honey and aged on toasted coconut. It's another big beer coming in at 13.3% ABV. This calendar is definetly big and bold this year.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #nerdbrewing #imperialstout #stout
Advent 2024 Day 03 brings us Smedsbo Slott Barley Wine Bourbon Oaked. Coming in at 14.5% AVB this is a big beer. A classic barleywine aged on bourbon oak, which probably means wood chunks and not barrels. We dig into this big boy and a little saucy.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #barleywine
Advent 2024 Day 02 is here and with it comes 3 Fonteinen Cuvee Armand and Gaston Vintage 2017. We getting fancy this episode and drink our beer with our pinkies out, and not because we have syphillis. We're fancy. It's got all the tart notes of green apple and citrus that we love from a 3F geuze. If can sustain this level of quality, this will really be a great calendar this year.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #adven2024 #adventcalendar #geuze
Ooooh wheee...it's time. Let's kick this off. Advent Calendar 2024 has begun and it's day 01. Gamla Enskede Bryggeri kicks off the calendar with their annual release of Bloodofjupiter. This one is called 13 Anti-Christ Strong Ale. It's a strong ale mixed with lingonberries that boarders on a barleywine. At 13% ABV, it's a "Strong" start to the calendar!
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2024 #adventcalendar #strongale
It's the final Thursday of November and that can only mean one thing...Systembolaget Julöl episode. We try five different Jul Öl beers released from Systembolaget at the beginning of November to help you understand which beers should be a part of your Christmas celebrations. This we picked a lot of milds, dark ales and bocks. Since Stefan always picks the beers based off the label, he got an unintended theme. This year we have a dark Mild from Beer Baron's called Mild Winter, a spiced ale from Bustad Brewing Co called Tomteluva, a schwarzbier from Beerium called Down the Chimney 2024, a julbock from Ringu and a Winterwarmer Gingerbread strong mild ale from Österlenbryggarna. It's a very merry Christmas time!

It's the UK vs US in a saison double header. Don't get to do back-to-back saisons very often. This is a real surprise. The Kernel is one of the UK's best producer of traditional style beers. They do a lot of traditional ipas, porters, table beers, saisons and more. Foeder Beer Mosaic is a farmhouse ale made with mosiac hops fermented in red wine barrels. At only 5.4% ABV, it's a light refreshing farmhouse ale that's light on the funk. Jester King is Texas premiere wild ale makers. Super Ultramega Hyperforce is a 4.5% ABV farmhouse ale made with ginger, salt, tarragon and refermented with cataloupe. It's not as weird as it sounds.

We love the fall. The leaves change colors. The temperature gets colder. Stouts and Barleywines appear on the shelves. Autum brings so many wonderful changes. Evil Twin has brewed over a 1000 beers in their NYC brewery. How do we know? They released a beer called Batch No 1000 Brewed in NYC. This is an old ale made with maple syrup. While it's not a stout or a barleywine, it is a 13% ABV big boy. Danish brewers Bad Seed don't show up on shelves in Sweden very often. It's no surprise that Stefan found this in Copenhagen. Bourbon Barrel Aged Colossus 2023 is a English barleywine aged in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels. It's keeping us warm for sure.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #barleywine #oldale #barrelaged
This episode we've got a couple of stouts to warm us as winter slowly approaches. No need to break out your heavy coats and scarves when you're drinking high ABV stouts. Drake's Brewing out of California has taken their imperial stout and aged it on St. George single malt barrels. Amburana Death of the Sun is a 12.9% ABV barrel-aged stout is missing some of the barrel aging. Rivington Brewing from England released an imperial pastry stout called Lamb-or-Genie. Coming in at 10.5%, this bad boy has banana and coconut in it. It's a collab with Latvian brewers Arpus and American brewers Commonwealth Brewing. We had high expectations that weren't entirely met.

Here's something spooky for your Halloween night, two rauchbiers. We love smoked beers and rarely find ones that deliver out of Germany. We were able to find two excellent craft brewers that give us hope. Evil Twin Brewing The Anti-IPA Is Having a Moment is a rauchbier. At 5% it's a pretty representation of the style. Not quite the smoked sausage goodness of a German rauchbier but a very drinkable entry. Holy Goat Brewing Goatsmoker 2024 isn't a rauchbier but an smoked double stout with muscavado and demerara sugars. It promises dense smoke, candied bacon, rum, molasses and dark roasted coffee. That's a lot to promise from one beer that doesn't have any adjuncts.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #stout #imperialstout #rauchbier #smokedbeer
We got a fun couple of cans to review this episode. Sometimes you don't buy a beer because you want to drink the beer. Sometimes you get a beer because the art work is so much fun. Which brings us to today's beers. Omnipollo PIM is a 5.6% ABV hazy pale ale with citra hops. Light smooth and fun drink while staring into to the trippy label on the can. This pairs nicely with DankHouse OOOzie Jacuzzi. This is the total opposite of PIM, like the label it's a trip. Strawberry, pineapple, raspberry and marshmallow are blened into a fruit smoothie of a beer. It feels ooozie as you drink it down.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #sourbeer #smoothiebeer #paleale #omnipollo
We've kind of fallen into a love/hate relationship with The Bruery and Brew Dog. They make some really great beers and some not so great beers. The problem is you never know which you'll get anymore. The Bruery's Peaches en Ruegalia is a Black Tuesday variant. They took their flagship stout Black Tuesday and added caramelized peaches, vanilla beans, cinnamon, brown sugar and graham crackers. There's a reason more peach stouts aren't on the market. Overworks is the sour beer label from Brew Dog. They have been putting out interesting sour beers for a few years now. Krampus Nicht promises a sour red beer aged in cognac barrels for half a year and then blended with "winter spices" (cinnamon, cloves, orange zest, star anise). Despite the strong flavor profile, it feels like Krampus pulled a mean joke on us.

We are going Belgian again this episode with two very different expressions of Belgian beers. First up is Swedish brewery Barlingbo Bryggeri and Solberga VIII. This is a Belgian tripel with a light 8% ABV. Light is exactly how we thought of this beer. Then we get a Belgian beer from De Ranke. Noir de Dottignies is a Belgian strong dark ale. Not a style we see very often. This comes in at 8.5% ABV. This was a real surprise for us. We didn't know what to expect and this really came to play.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #beliganale #strongale #belgiantripel
It's getting colder now but that doesn't mean we don't want to put away the summer quite yet. We get fruity this episode with two very different types of fruit foward beers. La Calavera Jungle Boogie is a mixed fermented sour ale aged in oak barrels. It's an aggressive sour ale that reminds us of our favorite flemmish ales. Arpus Cherry Red Currant Apricot Vanilla Sour Ale is all those things. Arpus puts out great fruited beers that go more towards the pastry style. It's an intense fruit experience that goes down really smooth.

WOW...when Stefan started this podcast he had no idea it would still be going strong after 9 years. We're celebrating our 9th anniversary this episode. Of course we can't do it alone. We brought the gang together to challenge them with feats of drinking bravado. Martin, Marcus, Björn and Pontus go head to head over five gruelling rounds to see who can identify the correct beer. It is a hard fought battle but there can be only one winner. How do you think you would fare?

Martin went on a little holiday with the partner to Austria. He was able to grab a couple of beers while here was there and bring them back for the show. Stift Engelszell Gregorius 2024 is an annual release. This is a Belgian quadrupel coming in at a big 10.4% ABV. It's an interesting entry into the style but lacks some of the fun of a true Belgian Quad. Hagger Blend 1019 Blue is part of their ongoing Hagger series. All Hagger beers from Brauhaus Bevog are barleywines. Martin and Stefan tried Blend 1019 Pink back in 2020. We quite liked it. It's fun to pick up the second one four years later. It holds up really well and shows no signs of aging. Quite the fun surprise!

We're trying some rebrews this episode. Dry & Bitter has been putting out interesting Danish beers for years. Double Dippy Doo was last seen in 2020. We both gave it a really good rating. A lot has changed in the beer world since then. This double IPA comes back and kills it once again. Why can't we get this all year around in Sweden? Stigbergets Panta Rei 2024 is a collab beer coming out of the Panta Rei beer festival they attended. Last seen in 2018, collab beers can be a big hit or miss with no one brewery really doing their best work. Stigbergets shows they don't have any problems here by doing what they do best.

It's a geuze episode featuring two breweries never featured on the show before. Martin broke out two beers he is excited to share. These two Belgium breweries are very indemand at the moment. Bofkont Lazy Red Amber is a blend of 1, 2, and 3 year old lambic blended with Spanish plums. We love plums in lambic and they killed it here. Antidoot Aether Kina is a wild ale aged on cinchona bark for a year and then refermeneted in the bottle with a blackcurrant juice picked from their own garden. Cinchona bark is a natural source of quinine, which means we might not get malaria because we drank a lot of this.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #bofkont #antidoot #lambic #geuze #cinchonabark
Stefan has some more US beers to share this episode. More importantly, it's from the corner of the US he is from. Texas based Martin House Brewing has been leading the way on gose variants. From pickle beers to michelada sour beers, they are going to extremes. Salty Lady is the base gose, which is an easy drinking gose. They added chamoy, a salty, sweet, bitter, sour flavor combo, to the beer. The results are something wild. Ozark Brewing Co returns to the show with their annual release of BDCS 2023. We featured this beer a couple of years ago and thought it would be fun to check in with the latest version to see how it holds up.

We're expanding our horizons once again with more ciders. Domaine Duclos-Fourgeray Cidre Fermier Du Pays Bray Tradition is a funky, musty cider with loads of funky flavor. This is just how we like it. Domaine Duclos-Fourgeray is a french cidery but they created in the German style of apfelwein. Martin added the perfect companion to the cider with Hanssens Artisanaal Oude Gueuze 2016. Hanssens is a perfect example of a lambic producer that needs to wait to be enjoyed. Not our favorite fresh, give it 5 years and you've got some magic. This doesn't disappoint.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #lambic #gueuze #gueze #cider #cidre
Stefan went on holiday to Portugal and brought back some beers. One from his brother who gifted him several beers from Arkansas. We're excited to try Natural State Brewing Maibock. It won Gold Medal in 2021 at the Great American Beer Festival. We get it. This beer slaps. It's 7.2% ABV but drinks really light. This is a chuggable beer. Catraio is a beer bar in Porto, Portugal. It's a really great place with lots of taps, bottles and cans. They celebrated their 9th year with a special beer brewed by Fermentage. Catraio 9.0 is an India Pale Lager made with oleo saccharum with red grapefruit and lime zests. Then it as hopped with Cascade, Mandarina Bavario and Perle hops and dry-hopped with Nelson Sauvin. Then end result is a hoppy lager with a slightly tart edge.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #lager #maibock
We don't normally go to the same place in the same year, let alone in the same summer. Something special happened and we couldn't pass up the opportunity to review a beer. 3 Fonteinen has decided to finally release their beers on tap. You know we love 3F beers and getting it by the glass is a huge bonus. Mikkeller Moriskan somehow got kegs. Might be the first in Sweden. Certainlly the first in the region. 3 Fonteinen Oude Kriekenlambik is full of sour cherries which gives it a tart cherry juice flavor. It's incredible. If you missed this and love gueuze, they have Oude Lambic 2019 on tap as well. We follow that up with Pomona Island Crimson & Clover 2023. This English barleywine was aged in an apricot brandy barrels. This is incredible and makes you wonder why more beers aren't aged on apricot brandy barrels.

We talked about going to some local dive bars in Malmö for a few years. We just happened to be in the neighborhood and stopped by one of the classic dive bars in Malmö. Gamle Nobes has been around for a long time and my how the times have changed. A few years ago it was the only place in Malmö that had indoor smoking. It was rundown and the patrons gave you a weird look if they didn't know you. Gentrification has come for this landmark location. It's still trapped in a 70's wonderland of design but the taps and the food are worth checking out. We grabbed a couple of beers and took a seat outside. Spaten Premiere Lager is a mass produced German lager but damn if it isn't a quality beer. Smooth, malty and just the right carbonation, it's what you want from a local watering hole. Gamla Nobes Bodega Nobes is brewed just for them by Czech brewery Pivovar Lobkowicz. It's light amber lager with a slight roasted malt finish.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #lager #amberlager #spaten
Double saison episode in the middle of summer? Yes please! We love saison beers. They hit even better during the summer. Light, funky and super easy to drink, saison is a perfect summer beer. Hill farmstead Anna with Motueka is a farmhouse ale made with wildflower honey and dry-hopped with Motueka. We follow that up with a saison from France. Wilde Leeuw and Brasserie La Malpolon teamed up to create Saison Brett Rhubarabe. Northern France grows lots of rhubarb. Naturally it fits perfectly with a saison. Why aren't there more rhubarb saisons on the market?
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #saison #farmhouseale #hillfarmstead
Keeping the summer going, we head out to Ramen 2 Birru. Mikkeller's ramen joint makes great ramen. We've been eating here for a few years. There are two locations in Malmö. We are at the Möllanvängstorget location. We didn't try the ramen this time but feasted on beers instead. Apex is an IPA focused Swedish brewery that's been upping the game for a few years. Havoc Apparatus IPA is a 6.5% NEIPA. Sadly they don't mention the hops so mysteries abound. Fuerst Wiacek Yield is a companion beer to the APEX IPA. This IPA comes in at 5.5% ABV and is very easy to drink. We saw another beer on the menu that we couldn't pass up. Brewski Grandmother Gose is a mango, lime and habanero gose. Image a spicy margarita as a beer. It's a spice that builds over time and doesn't completely wreck the palate but comes close.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #neipa #hazyipa #ipa #gose #mikkeller
We're keeping it light and funky this summer and nothing brings out the fun like a cider and a lambic. Frukstereo Österlen 2020 is a dry cider made with apples from Sweden apple Mecca Österlen. It's a great location on Sweden's east coast with some of our best beaches. Dry and fruity, this cider makes us wonder why we don't review more ciders on the show. Metaphore Qvevri is a wild ale from Czech Republic. Qvevri is a ancent Georgian earthenware vessels that were used to make and age wine. Metaphore has taken this practice and used it to age a wild ale. The beer is aged for one year in a qvevri and buried in the ground with loads of Riesling grapes. Then it's aged on oak barrels for another year. With strong mineral notes blended with hints of Reisling, they really did something special here.

We're staying in the neighborhood and visited Scandwich. This is one of Malmö's best sandwich shops. But that's a bit a misnomer. The sandwiches are full meals. Grab and knive and fork because you're going to need to dig in to tackle these monsters. After years of developing a following, they were able to open their own restaurant and get a tap supplied by our friends at To Ol Brewing. This means they are always going to have some really good To Ol beers on tap. 30 Days Italian Pilsner is an Italian pilsner that only aged 30 days. This is because Italian style pilsners are not aged more than 4-5 weeks creating a lighter, more herbal beer compared to its Czech or Germany counterparts. This will be a killer summer beer. Shapes and Objects makes their second appearance on the show with Gorilla Juice. This is a collab with Duckpond Brewing. It's a fruited gose with banana, mango, and liquorice candy. You're enjoyment will depend on how much you enjoy banana and liquorice flavors. Fortunately we do.

It's summer and we're on the road. Or at least down the street. We are hitting up several bars and restaruants around Malmö all summer. We kick this off with Mikkeller Moriskan. We reviewed this location a few years ago and it was great. We thought it was time to get out and revisit this summer popup. Is it still a popup bar if it's in the same place very summer for six years? This seasonal bar is a great venue on a warm summer day with lots of beer and food. Verdant They Went on Forever is a NEIPA made with mosaic, nelson sauvin and galaxy hops. Verdant fumbled for a couple of years but it feels like they are getting back on track with a solid NEIPA. Swedish brewery Ten Hands Bring on the Night is a heavy roasted double stout. This is a solid base stout that brings the chocolate, liquorice and coffee notes you would expect from a heavily roasted stout.

Last episode we said it's time to put away the stouts and barleywines. We may have spoke too soon. This week, we have a double dose of Frontaal barrel aged beers. Frontaal Brewing Churchill BA Vol. 1 is an imperial stout aged on Wild Turkey barrels. This is straight down the barrel. It does what says on the label and not more than that. Piece of Cake BA #1 is part of their Piece of Cake series. This one is barrel aged and make with spekkoek. Obviously spekkoek is a type of Indonesian layer cake developed during colonial times in the Dutch East Indies. But we're not telling you anything you didn't already know.

Ahhh...summer time is finally here and that means we put away our pastry stouts and barleywines for something light, crisp and easy to drink on a warm day. There have been several posts Instagram and Facebook about how Sweden's best pilsner is Helsinge Pilsener. We wanted to test that against one of our favorite Hapi Pils from Hyllie Bryggeri. Helsinge Pilsener is a solid pilsner and defintely fits the bill. We both enjoyed it. Sweden's best? That's another story. Next up is Hapi Pils. This is a New Zealand pilsner. Where Helsinge Pilsener is tasty, Hapi Pils pops. The hops are bright and refreshing. It's easy to drink and you keep reaching for more. It is Sweden's best pilsner? Who knows, but it's in the running.

Today's a very special episode. It's not often we get to celebrate Sweden National Day on the same day as an episode. But that's not all, it's also Martin's 400th episode. Of course something this special had to have special beers and special friends to join. We called in our beer nerd friends and we get busy celebrating. We have two from Eighth State Brewing. Rouge in Exile is a collab with Burial Beer Co. It's an imperial stout that was aged in bourbon barrels for two years then had dates, caramel, coconut, vanilla and cocoa nibs added. YUM! After that we opened a bottle of We Can Walk. This is a much simpler beer. It's just an imperial stout with ton of toasted coconut. We were in coconut heaven. Congrats to Sweden and congrats to Martin on this special day.

We're keeping it Swedish with a couple of fun new beers. Vigrum Bryggeri is a new one for us. We got our hands on a bottle of Modern Lager. This IPL comes in at 6% and blends the lager with a slightly hoppy finish. We're looking forward to trying more from Vigrum Bryggeri. Kosta Bryggeri is also new to us. We decided on the Modern English, a 5.8% English IPA. While it didn't blow us away, it a good beer. We're always excited to try new breweries and find new local beers to try.

Martin took a little trip to Breda, Netherlands. He was able to collect a few beers while he was there to bring back with him. Breda is a small little down just north of the Belgian boarder and has a suprising number of quality beer bars. The first beer we get to try is from Brouwerij de Manskerel Manskerel Quad Barrel Aged. This barrel aged Belgian quadrupel was aged in rum barrels for 12 months. Sadly, it's really missing the big rum punch we were expecting. Big Belly Brewery Liquid Desserts 30 is a 2 year barrel blend sticky Mexican coffee cake stout with nuts. It's the last in the series for the brewery but not their last beer. It's a shame that this is the last in the series and the only one we got to try.

Sometimes we like to go exploring in Systembolaget. We found a couple of interesting beers to review. Hyllie has been really working the larger, pils and IPA game really well. Some of their other traditional attempts have been just a little off the mark. Devilish is a Belgian strong golden ale that really nails the style. We were blown away by how good it is. We would put it up against any Belgian brewed version. Next up is something best left on the shelf. PomPom Cider Chokladboll is a pear cider with the flavor of Swedish Chokladboll, chocolate and coconut. Oddly enough, they kind of got it but we're not sure that's a good thing from a cider. It's a wild ride of flavor.

Poppels is one of the larger independent breweries in Sweden. They have released some special barrel aged beers. Barrel Aged Barley Wine - Cognac, Rhum and Port is a 13.5% ABV barrel aged monster. It really packs a mouthful of flavor. Rhum Bourbon Rum Stout contains rhum, rum and bourbon. What's the difference between rhum and rum? You'll have to listen to find out. These two beers are too big for the two of us. We had to call in Marcus and Pontus to help.

We got some fun beers to try this episode. Malmö Meadery has been producing some really good meads for a few years now. They have been releasing single fruit meads have been pretty good. Martin knows how much Stefan loves guava so of course he brought Exclusive - Guava Mead. Not sure guava needs to be made into a mead but here it is. Founders Brewing has been releasing variants of Backwoods Bastard. French Toast Bastard is a bourbon barrel-aged scotch ale with maple, cinnamon and vanilla. It's a lot of french toast bourbon goodness.

Getting Swedish again with two really fun local breweries. Vreta Kloster Bryggeri continues to pump out really good traditional Belgian styles. St Lars 13 is a Belgian quadrupel made to celebratet the 15 anniversary of DeKlomp in Linköping. They are really killing these traditional styles. Electric Nurse Angry Moose is an imperial stout that is your basic imperial stout. No extras here, just roasted malty goodness.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #belgianquad
Getting back into some low ABV beers again. Danish brewers Gamma and Fano Bryghus teamed up to create what some call a shandy, others call a radler. We call it Fruit Suit. This clocks in at a 2.7% ABV and blends grapefruit and orange into a tasty mix. Because Martin likes to watch Stefan recoil in horror, he didn't hesitate to bring a guava beer. Scotish brewery Williams Bros released Che Guava Radical Lager. It's a 3.5% ABV gluten-free lager with lots of guava. Decisions were made...we aren't sure why.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #lowabvbeer #shandy #radler #lager
You know we love Danish brewers To Ol. We haven't seen much of them lately, which is a shame. Systembolaget recently got two versions of Goliat, regular and cognac. You know we can't pass up a chance to do a side-by-side comparison. Goliat is an imperial stout with coffee and raw cane sugar. Just a classic combo of base imperial stout goodness. Really a prime example of what a base stout should be. Comparing that to Goliat Cognac Barrels, which has been aged on cognac barrels for 15 months, brings a whole new flavor profile. It's always amazing how a little change can take the same beer and make something completely different.

Another week, another episode. Now that spring is arriving, we're moving away from heavy stouts and barleywines and into light and dare I say it...low ABV beers. A few years ago low ABV was a disgrace. These days every brewery is putting out several low ABV beers with lots of styles and options. Dugges En Svagare Öl is a 3.5% NEIPA. That's a dangerous style to do low ABV. Fortunalty Dugges does a pretty good job with this one. Pohjala Prenzlauer 0 is a 0.5% ABV sour. Made with raspberries, it really hits the spot. We will review more low ABV beers in the future and hope see more breweries taking up the low ABV challenge.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #lowABVbeer #sourbeer #neipa
We've been trying a lot of traditional beer styles recently. This episode we wanted to get a little off the beaten path with something different. Beerblioket Cherry Almond Pie Surprise is a cherry and almond sour ale. The surprising part is how little it tastes like cherry and almonds. Next up is Stigbergets Stig Noir. Now we're not huge fans of black IPAs. Every once in a while we'll try one to see if anyone has figured out how to do it right. Stig Noir is better than most but still doesn't quite get there. We're also joined by Frosty Beard Marcus and Pontificating Pontus. You things will get wild.

We don't have many German bars in Skåne. There is a great one in Lund. Rauhrackel has been around for what feels like forever. We've been looking forward to checking it out. They have a pretty good selection of German beers on tap and a quite a few bottles. Klosterbrauerei Weltenburg is a micro brewery specializing in traditional styles. We got to try Weltenburger Urtyp Hell, a helles, and Weltenburger Anno 1050, a marzen. If you're looking for a something a little different in Lund, you need to check out Rauhrackel.

It's three times the fun with three times the ABV. We have the marketing focused Omnipollo series called Three Times Three. Seven breweries all brew the same beer. It's an interesting challenge that shows how much the brewery making the beer can make a difference. Omnipollo is the first to release Three Times Three Vol 2. This TIPA comes in a smooth 10.1%. Look for it and other breweries releasing it at some point. North Park Beer Company has released their take on Three Times Three Vol 1. North Park's version of this beer is incredible. One of the best TIPA's we've had this year. To make this episode even more special we're joined by Frosty Beard Marcus and the Lord of Potatoes Pontus.

We are exploring the brewing possiblities of Sweden. Stjernsund Brygghus is exploring a style not often seen in Sweden. California Commons is brewed with lager yeast but fermented at ale fermentation temperatures. It was made famous by Anchor Brewing Company. It's an interesting attempt at the style. Oceanbryggeriet likes to do cask ales and traditional styles. Special Strong Ale is an English Strong Ale. This style is a malty, lightly hopped and bitter ale with a bit of alcohol warmth. This one comes in at 7.2% ABV and fits the bill.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #californiacommons #strongale
Spainsh brewery Laugar has been cranking out a wide variety of beers for years now. Martin brought two of their latest stouts. Midnight Harvest is an imperial stout aged in Porto wine and Bourbon whisky barrel aged. The two give a lot of character to the base stout but that's not always a good thing. Aupa Tovarisch Armagnac BA is their classic Aupa Tovarsich Russian imperial stout aged in Argmagnac barrels for 24 months. This faired far better. By focusing on one barrel type, the base stout really picks up the amazing flavors and creates a very drinkable stout.

We went classic with a couple of well respected beers from master brewers. Cantillon releases a lot of one off beers every year. They have nice group of regular releases as well. Fou' Foune is a blend of 18 to 20 month lambics with Bergeron apricots and Italian apricots. It's tart, fruity and always a thrill to have. Next is Thomas Hardy's Ale, The Historical (2021). It's an annual release that ages great. This is a very traditional English barley wine that is really smooth and easy to drink. We've had several vintages and it's great fresh as well as aged.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #cantillon #lambic #geuze #barleywine #englishbarleywine
We got a little crazy this episode. Martin found a classic bottle from Brekeriet, back when they only released 750 ml bottles in foreign webshops. Now you can find loads of their amazing beers in Systembolaget. Back in 2015 you could only get a a few like Sour & Salt. The fresh bottles are lightly tart with a nice saltiness. This hasn't aged as well as we had hoped. It was fun to try. Stefan brought a bottle from a new brewery from Smedsbo. Smedsbo Slott released Salzstout 2023. This implies an annual release but this is the first year of the beer. Coming in at 12.5% abv, it has salty liquorice note with a deep roast base. It's fun fine from an up and coming brewery.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #stout #sourbeer #gose
We made it out to Metro in Malmö. They have an interesting tap list but where they excel is their bottle list. They have a wide selection of bottles and cans to choose from. We started with an Orval. This Belgian pale ale is a true classic and just hits right every time you have it. It always makes you wonder why you don't drink it more often. Then we found a real diamond, a 3 Fonteinen Oude Kriek 2016. It's not everyday you see a 7 year-old lambic on a list that isn't crazy expensive. This has aged beautifully. Tart, sweet with notes of cinnamon and cherry. We couldn't have been happier.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #lambic #kriek #belgianpaleale #orval #3fonteinen
It's time to feature some recent Swedish releases. Show favorite brewery Remmarlöv has released a double IPA version of their traditional Jennius IPA. The Double Jeenius is a bolder version of their traditional IPA. This isn't hazy or malty but just a strong, traditional DIPA. Elm Eleven has been very successful with their pastry sour beers. We Are Not Alone continues that trend with a raspberry, blackberry, toasted marshmallow sour. It's crazy drinkable and delicious. While we love the pastry sours, we hope he's able to do other styles soon.

Stefan was able to travel to Germany a couple of weeks ago, so you know what that means...German Beers! Lubeck and Hamburg are amazing cities to visit with loads of art and culture. He didn't bother with any of that and just went for the beers. Sudden Death Brewing is based out of Lubeck. They opened an amazing taproom that is a destination spot for any beer traveller. Shitter was Full is inspired by the National Lampoon classic Christmas Vacation. It's a 7.9% AVB DIPA. It was as much fun to drink as it was to talk about the movie. Ratsherrn Brauerei has a really nice taproom and bottleshop with an eye towards traditional German styles. Hamburg Senatsbock is an annual doppelbock release that comes in at a 7.5% ABV.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #doppelbock #dipa #germanbeers
Casual Street Food is an award winning hamburger joint plus fish tacos. The burgers are top notch and their beer selection is usally very interesting. They have tap takeovers on a regular basis which keeps us coming back. We had to try the house beer, Casual Modern Lager. This amber lager is brewed by Malmö's Rocket Brewing Company. It's always fun to try the house beer. Danish brewery Dry & Bitter has released a West Coast IPA called Chrome Chrysalis. Dry hopped with Columbus, Ekuanot, Motueka and Wai-iti hops, it's got some tropical notes with a bit of maltiness.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #ipa #amberlager #lager #westcoastipa
Opopoppa is an oddly named pizza place in Malmö. Not only do they have great pizzas and calzones but also an exciting selection of beers. We managed to get two interesting ones. To Ol Svos is an easy drinking American IPA. It's straight up the middle to style IPA pairs well with pizza. Shapes & Objects Beer Co is a new brewery here in Sweden. They've 15 releases in just a few months. They mostly do fruit beers or fruited sours. Piano Keys Raspberry Cream Blackberry Sour is a 6% ABV fruit beer. This collaboration with Ten Hands Brewing and Forager Brewery is a tart, intense fruit beer. We're looking forward to trying trying more from them in the future.

Welcome to 2024. We are here to drink some beer! Kicking off a new year is always exciting so full of hopes and dreams for amazing new beers to try. We start off with a new brewery called Mason Ale Works. Their nonsense fuel is a hazy DIPA double dry hopped with enigma, rakau, HBC 431 and HBC 586. A strong beer to start off the year. Tha's followed by Energy City Brewing Bistro Mango, Coconut and Banana Smoothie. This a Berliner-style weisse beer with the afore mentioned fruits. It's a fruit cocktail in a can.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #dipa #berlinerweisse #pastrysour
It's the end of year and of course we have one last episode to give you. Drinking tasty beers takes no breaks and neither do the episodes. As always, Martin brings his best to the episode with an outstanding 3 Fonteinen. Zenne Frontera Blend No 94 is a blend of five lambics aged in nine Oloroso barrels and one Amontillando barrel. Stefan didn't want to be out done so he brings one of the stellar Lervig Off the Rack imperial stout. Off the Rack Port is a collab beer with Basqueland Brewing. The 13.4% ABV imperial stout is aged in tawny port barrels for 9 months. 2023 is over now and we're really excited about 2024...because that means more beers! Have a Happy New Year!

All good things must come to an end. Advent 2023 Day 24 closes out not with a wimper but with a bang. It's time to celebrate with Narke Kulturbryggeri Kaggen Stormaksporter 2019. What an amazing beer. We really enjoyed this and it felt like the perfect way to end the calendar. It's been a great calendar with lots of surprises. We hope you enjoyed it as well and wish you a happy holidays!

Advent 2023 Day 23 is our pentultimate episode. Don't worry, we still have plent of great beer to share. Sudden Death Brewing Mystic Blood Crypt is a 5.8% AVB pastry sour. Filled with raspberry, plum and beetroot juice, it smells like dirt but tastes like raspberries. It's an odd thing to wrap your head around.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #sourbeer #pastrysour #advent2023 #adventcalendar
Advent 2023 Day 22 has us walking the plank. We're in deep waters with a 16.2% ABV imperial porter. You'll need your sea legs to take on this big titan. Avery Brewing Plank'd is an imperial coconut porter aged in rum barrels. They only released it three times over the years. This one if from 2018. It might be past it's prime but it still packs a punch.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialporter #porter #advent2023 #adventcalendar
We are drawing to an end of our calendar. It's sad to see things winding down but on Day 21 we still have plenty to celebrate. Continuing our theme of defunct breweries, Stockholm Brewing Company is closing down. They released a raspberry, vanilla oude bruin on the way out. Jammin is a 5.7% Flanders oude bruin made with Duckpond. We don't get a lot of oude bruin releases so this is a real treat.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #oudebruin #sourbeer #advent2023 #adventcalendar
First featured in a collab, Stigbergets gets their own day. Advent 2023 Day 20 has Imperial DDH Killer Pale. This NEIPA is a 7.5% ABV made with Phantasm, a thiol precursor powder extracted from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc grapes. What does that mean? We have no idea, but it sure sounds fancy.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #stigbergets #NEIPA
Advent 2023 Day 19 is our second Dragon's Milk from New Holland. Also not a stout, Tales of Gold is a bourbon barrel aged golden ale with milk sugar. This one caught us off guard. We didn't know what to expect. What a true advent surprise. We think it's the first golden ale we reviewed on the show.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #goldenale #newholland #dragonsmilk
Advent 2023 Day 18 is from the US brewery Bruery Terreux. This collaboration betweeen Bruery Terreux and Garage Project blends lemon balm, camomile and wildflower honey with a oak aged saison. Ngongo is the Maori word for "nectar" and "honey".
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #bruery #ngongo #saison #farmhouseale
It is Advent 2023 Day 17 and OMG...it's another Tilquin Meerts. This time with Pinot Gris grapes. What can we say about this one? Still really good and pinot gris grapes blend wonderfully with the Tilquin lambic.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #tilquin #lambic #gueuze
Day 16 of the 2023 Advent calendar is a collaboration between Stigbergets and Apex. We've already had an APEX DIPA beer earlier this calendar. This collab is a imperial milk stout called Back Already? We're not a fan of milk stouts and Stefan really doesn't like hazelnut in beers. Imagine our surprise when we both enjoyed this beer.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #milkstout #stout #imperialmilkstout
Advent 2023 Day 15 brings us our third Tilquin Meerts variant. This time it's Syrah grapes. Like the previous two, it's a fun 5.4% AVB gueuze that's easy to drink. All three of these been really good and would be a perfect bottle to share over a meal. Maybe next year...
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #gueuze #tilquin #syrah
Speaking of Nerdbrewing, Advent 2023 Day 14 is Nerdbrewing Indexoutofbounds Mulato Edition 2016. This holds up surpringly well. You still get the mulato chili spice but the stout has turned to liquorice and is a little dusty. Martin had to dig deep into his cellar to find this. It's real Christmas treat.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #adventcalendar #advent2023 #imperialstout #stout
Advent 2023 Day 13 gives us one of the best up and coming breweries in Sweden. Elm Eleven started a couple of years ago and is part of the Molecule Brewing group together with Chad Beer and NerdBrewing. Alien by Choice is another beer that doesn't sound like it would work on paper, blackcurrant, guava, passionfruit biscuit crumble sour. It's too many things. But damn if it isn't one impressive pastry sour. We're looking forward to featuring more from Elm Eleven next year.
#beer #drinks #craftbeer #pastrysour #sourbeer #advent2023 #adventcalendar
Advent 2023 Day 12 is a return to the Tilquin Meerts line. Tilquin Meerts au Riesling is made with...you guessed it...Riesling grapes. Bottle fermented and tasty as hell. This continues to be an impressive annual release from Tilquin. The calendar continues to impress and the lambics are flowing.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2023 #adventcalendar #lambic #gueuze
Advent 2023 Day 11 give us one of the weirder beers we've had in a while; Dugges Lemon Curd Mega. We tried the Christmas Mega for the Systembolaget Christmas beer release. This is the third in the Mega series and it's really good. This is a bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with citrus and vanilla. Lemon and bourbon barrel-aged stout sounds like a combo that shouldn't work. Somehow it works and we're really looking forward to future Dugges Mega releases.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2023 #adventcalendar #dugges #imperialstout #stout
Advent 2023 Day 10 is another lambic. Martin brought another Cantillon to the calendar. Let's hope it's a tradition he continues. Rose de Gambrinus is their famous raspberry lambic. This bottle is from 2018 but you wouldn't know it. It's a bright and fresh as any bottle released this year. Packed with huge amounts of raspberries, this is a real jaw clincher. It's intensely sour. If you have a bottle, there is a lot of life in it so you don't need to rush it.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #cantillon #lambic #gueuze #advent2023 #adventcalendar
Advent 2023 Day 9 had Stefan scouring Systembolaget to find something different that Martin hadn't had. Austrain brewery Stiegl releases a lot of larger and helles style beers. Somehow Martin has never tried Goldbrau. This a very tradtional helles wich is malty, light and really easy to drink. We don't review lagers very much on the show because there isn't much to say about this. It's perfect for a calendar.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #helles #lager #advent2023 #adventcalendar
Advent 2023 Day 8 bring us our third wild ale. We love Tilquin is one of our favorite gueuze makers. Each year they release a set of 5.6% lambics. The Meerts series (or March beer) is a low abv labmic. From the description, it sounds like the is the lambic that is made from reusing the wort from a previous batch. It's a bit weaker but still makes a great lambic Au Pinot Noir is a mix of 1 and 2 year old lambics with pinot noir grapes. Samppa thought it was a winner.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2023 #adventcalendar #lambic #gueuze #meertslambic
Advent 2023 Day 07 celebrates another Swedish brewery. Each country seems to have a great DIPA brewery. Sweden has a few and one of them is Apex Brewing Company. Nachzehrer DIPA is a collaboration with Germany brewery Fuerst Wiacek. It really hits our sweet spot with cascade, citra incognito, motueka, nelson sauvin and citra hops. After a few days of sour beer, a DIPA really balanced it out.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #adventcalendar #advent2023 #dipa #apexbrewing
Advent 2023 Day 06 is from another defunct brewery. Also a wild ale brewery, Iris Wild Ales existed for a moment and only released four beers. They were well received but just ahead of the market. Christel is from 2017 and is a barrel aged farmhouse ale. This might be one of the last bottles left in the world. We mourn their passing but enjoyed the hell out of this saison.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #farmhouseale #saison #advent2023 #adventcalendar
Advent 2023 Day 5 is from a defunct brewery. Baghaven is no more but we still have access to their fun Danish wild ales. Pantao Blend 1 is a wine barrel fermented Danish wild ale aged on fresh Saturn peaches. If you like peaches, you'll love this beer. Slightly tart, slightly sweet and whole lotta peach. Baghaven only released this beer twice. It's shame there won't be a blend 3.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #baghaven #wildale #advent2023 #adventcalendar
Advent 2023 Day 4 brings us a rare treat. When was the last time you had an imperial red ale? Dragon's Milk Crimson Keep is just that, an 11% abv red ale. We thought Dragon's Milk was just a stout line from New Holland Brewing. This is a strong hoppy red ale somewhat similiar to an American Barleywine. Samppa got a little toasted on this one.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #redale #imperialredale #newhollandbrewing
Advent 2023 Day 3 brings us something from the states. American Solera Samison is a farmhouse wild ale aged in Napa Valley foeders. WOW...what a treat. It's light, funky and wonderfully complex. Everything in balance. We couldn't get enough of this. It really makes us sad we can't get more American Solera beers in Europe.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #farmhouseale #wildale #americanwildale #americansolera
Advent Calendar 2023 is in full swith Day 02. Stefan brought Westvleteren 12 to the calendar last year. Martin thought it would be fun to try an older version. He brought Westvleteren 12 2016. If you know this beer then you know to be excited. Unfortunately it hasn't aged well and you can taste the oxidation. Samppa wasn't the only one disappointed but then he reminded us that tomorrow is another beer.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #westveletern #trappistale
Advent 2023 begins today! We're excited to get started. We can't have an advent calendar without at least one ToOl beer. Day 1 brings us ToOl #12 DIPA. What a great way to start the calendar. It's a 8.5% DIPA. Brewed with Idaho 7 hops and then dry hopped with HBC 630, Wakatu, Columbus and Citra hops. The results are a smooth, hoppy easy to drink DIPA.

It's the best episode of the year! The Systembolaget Christmas Beers 2023 release! It doesn't get more fun this. This year there were 196 beers released as part of the Christmas beer day, plus a few more before and after.
Before we begin with the rundown, we're joined by Samppa the snowman. He'll be modeling most of the beers this calendar. He's very excited to join the team this year.
We picked some wild beers this year. We start with our most traditional julebryg. It's Julebrygd from Bryghus 19. This is a very traditional bock ale that is the perfect beer for any julbord. A traditional classic from Delirium is next. Noel is a 10% belgium winter ale. From there we have our wildcard choice, Wet Whistle Brewery has released Gingerbread Stout. It's a gingerbread imperial stout with a strong gingerbread flavor. Next is Stigbergets Xmas Barley Wine. This is a straight down the middle barleywine. No adjunts, no fillers, nothing more. If you've forgotten what a traditional barleywine tastes like, this is a good one to refresh your memory. Finally we have Dugges Christmas Mega. This is a crazy Jamaica Rum Barrel-Aged imperial vanilla and black peper stout. It's a bold choice that really brings the flavor.
We start our advent calendar tomorrow and we hope you'll enjoy our picks for the calendar.

Bjorn has been sitting on a treasure trove of Sierra Nevada Bigfoot vintages. He's been sitting on seven years worth of this American style barley wine. We gather our drinking crew and we embark on this epic journey. This is touted as a beer you should cellar and open later but is that true? Is it better fresh or better 3-7 years? We were really excited about this vertical and finding out. It was an epic tasting.

We're making a little trip to Poland this episode. Known for their traditional lagers and pilsners, Poland has become a craft beer wonderland with exciting craft breweries delivering lots of delicious beers. We start with a collab between Sweden's Hop Notch and Poland's Browar Nepomucen. Peach & Love is an Azacca hopped NEIPA with a dash of peach and blood oranges to give it some extra fruitiness. That's followed by the Maltgarden/Funky Fluid collab Funky Garden. These two breweries have created 10 different beers in this series. We had volumn 8. This is a chocolate, coconut, caramel, carob, cinnamon, coffee, milk and vanilla birthday cake imperial stout. It's got a little bit of everything thrown in there and it works pretty well.

We head back to Lund this episode for a trip to Inferno. This was the premiere craft beer bar in Lund for years. Sadly, they have scaled back on their selection. You can still find lots of interesting bottles and can but the taplist has become a tap pedestrian. We tried two beers on tap. Normally I would go into the beers at this point but we both felt the taps weren't clean the beers were off. We had Fourpure British Red Ale and New Belgium Hazy Voodoo Ranger. It's hard to recommend either based off what we tasted. Maybe we'll try them again one day and give a proper rating. If you do get to visit Inferno, it's still a nice beer bar with loads of character, just maybe stick to the bottles and cans.

We went Marvin's in Malmö a couple of months ago. Unfortunately they had a fire before we released the episode and we decided to hold the episode until they reopened. During the summer they have english muffin sandwiches. We reviewed those this episode. During the winter, they have traditional British pies (which are also amazing). We're really happy to have them back!
Now on to the beers! Cloudwater Proper DIPA: Citra Edition is part of a hops showcase series. This one is Citra hops, of couse. If you're a citra fan, this beer is for you. This is an update of a 2017 release and it's a banger. Cloudwater shows why they are kings of British DIPAs. Pentrich has been making waves in the British IPA crowd. Birthdays in Isolation is part of their 4th anniversary that was brewed during COVID lockdown. This TIPA uses citra, simcoe and nelson sauvin. It's a TIPA so it's a big beer. Be careful.

We weren't quite sure what to review this episode. We looked around and found two beers that we thought would be interesting to talk about. Stefan is a big fan of American Solera and lagers. American Solera Western Vibes is a larger aged in oak foeders. What a great combination. Why are brewies doing more with aged largers? They keep improving a basic style that is very under appreciated. Next is a lambic from Owa Brewery. Mikan Lambic is a Japanese mandarin lambic. Mandarin and lambic? That sounds kind of odd. Well you wouldn't be wrong. It's a really acidic lambic that's little hard to swallow.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #lambic #lager #americansolera #owabrewery
We back in the studio and hitting the bottles. Do you love lambic? Do you love lambic with lingonberries? What are lingonberries? All good questions. A lingonberry is like a smaller verison of a cranberry. A little sweet and a lot of tart. It blends beautifully into lambic. Tilquin Oude Arielle Sauvage is a lingonberry lambic that is tart, funky and super drinkable. We need more of these. After the tart and funky, we need something sweet and caramelly. Baladin Xyauyu 2018 is a 14% ABV barleywine with lots of caramel, figs and complex sweetness. It's another hit. We were blessed with two intense, fun, very different beers.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #lambic #barleywine #lingonberry #baladin #tilquin
Stout season is closing in and we're kicking it off in grand style. Omnipollo brewed their version of Cycle Brewing's Rare Dos. Rare Dos Rare Dos is a barrel aged coffee adn vanilla impeial stout. It's not quite at the level of Cycle Brewing's classic stout but it's a hell of a beer. We follow this up with a strong ale from Norwegian brewery Nogne O. Nordic Noir 2 is 15.5% stronge ale made with chocolate malt, honey and juniper. It's meant to evoke the nature of Norway. It kind of does that but also reminds us of Jägermeister. This one will probably divide beer fans.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #stout #strongale
Krol Bar is a new bar in Malmö. Danish brewers Gamma Brewing Company seem to be the exclusive brewery to the bar. That's great news for us. Gamma Brewing has released some great beers over the years and having a exclusive location to get their beers in Sweden is a win. We tried Big Doink and Lean In. Big Doink is one of their flagship beers. A DIPA made with citra, cashmere, mosaic and columbus hops. It's a great beer that has always been a pleaser. We follow it up with Lean In. This is a collaboration with Polly's Brew Co. It's a grapefruit IPA that passable but lacks the grapefruit bit you want from a beer like this. Krol Bar is a great hangout location and makes an excellent BBQ plate.

Holy Smokes...it's our 8th Anniversary! Many said it couldn't be done. Others said, "Oh you're still doing that?" Many more said "Why?" Despite them, we don't know the meaning of the word quit! We're still going strong and keep releaseing an episode a week. We decided to go to Lund and visit the Bishop's Arms. Bishop's Arms pubs are all over Sweden. It's a national bar chain. Each location decides what beers to have on tap and in fridges. Some are better than others. The one in Lund is excellent. We start with Overtone Against All Odds. It's a collaboration with Allkin Brewing. This IPA is made with Cita, Citra Cryoc Cryo Pop and Solero hops. It's another solid beer from Overtone. Next we have the return of a favorite. Buxton and Omnipollo have relaunched The Beer. Formally known as Yellow Belly and Coward, The Beer is a peanut butter biscuit stout that contains no peanut butter or biscuits. Like the podcast, it's a classic that keeps you coming back for more.

We've seen quite a few fruit beers in the Swedish beer scene. Friends and Duckpond have been leading the way for the rest of Sweden to follow. Friends Sunny Berry Smooje is a gose with strawberry, raspberry, lemon and vanilla. Tart, sweet and a lot of fun to drink. Friends continues to experiment and bring out lots of great sour fruit beers. Duckpond has released a really odd beer. We've had lots of banana beers in the past, but they are usually a stout. A banana gose is a new one for us. Nik Gose Bananas is a gose with bananas and vanilla. It's a wild beer and we're glad we go to try it even if we didn't find it entirely successful.

We are still in Lund and we are just down the street from Purgatorio. Torgets Taperia is a bistro with it's own on premise brewery. It's in the center of town and a great spt to people watch. They had scores of their own beer to sample. We got excited about this find. We tried three different beers. First up is Summer Ale. This is a pale ale that didn't live up to our expectations. Next is Ode to Hopes. This is an IPA but we were confused. It tasted more like a British Mild Ale or a Brown Ale. We completely missed the hops. Then we tried Emperador. At 8.2% ABV, we didn't have high hopes for it but it was a pleasant surprise. This is a classic stout with slightly burnt notes of liquorice and toffee. We really enjoyed it. Torgets Bryggeri might not be the best brewery but it's a great location with loads of promise.

We're on the road and made it to Lund. It's a short 10 minute train ride from Malmö and the second largest college in Sweden. Lund has never been a beer town. Well, that's changed in the past couple of years. Where COVID has been hard for a lot of places, Lund seems to have thrived with new beer bars. Purgatorio is a joint effer with wild ale brewery Brekeriet. We love them and going to their bar is a real treat. We start with Brekeriet Sommarlager. This a light slighly funky lager. We loved this and they gave us free fries to go with it. We will be back for sure. Fruktstereo is a Malmö brewery specializing in ciders and fruit beers. Brutulaijs Noveau 2022 is a cider that drinks like a red wine. We assume it's based on the French young wine called Beaujolais Nouveau. This cider is extremely drinkable and makes you feel a little fancy while you do it. We loved Purgatorio and look forward to future visits.

During his global travels, Stefan visited the south of France. Of course while he was there he picked up some beers from new breweries. First up is La Force from Hoppy Road. It’s part of their Tarot Series. This is a Hazy IPA that shows that France can make more than wine and champagne. It would be fun to try more in the series. La Biarrote is a small brewery from Biarritz, France. This is a small seaside tourist town in the South of France. You can only find this beer there. The brewer just does this in his free time. Corsaire is a traditional IPA. Bitter, hoppy and delicious. It reminds us of how IPA used to be. We hope this inspires you to search out hidden gems while you’re out travelling.

Martin brought in some interesting beers from two of our favourite breweries. Finback is an amazing brewery out of Queens, NY. We’ve enjoyed quite a few of their beers in the past and double coffee stout sounds awesome. A macchiato is an espresso with a small amount of foam on top. Macchiato is an 8.5% double coffee stout with coffee and caramel. The coffee really shines through and you get that espresso experience. We keep the stout train rolling with a double pastry stout from Brouwerij Kees. Colin the Caterpillar is a 12.4% ABV beer with milk and white chocolate. This one is a bit unbalanced and came in with a really hot alcohol burn. Be sure to check out Bjornstyleguiden as Björn joins this episode again. But even if he wasn’t joining, you should be watching his videos.

We love Brekieret. They make some of Sweden's best sour beers. They launched a sub label called Wild Bruce last year and have been introducing wild ales and untraditional beers to more of Sweden. Saison is a light farmhouse ale made with Belgian yeast. It’s a light, funky great introduction to what can be a tricky style. Björn from Björnstyleguiden also joined us and brought a special release called Habitum 2022. This was a members only release and we felt lucky to try it. If you are looking to expand your beer tastes with funky beers, Wild Bruce has 8 beers out. They take traditional styles thrown in some funky wildness. We can’t wait to see how they expand in the future.

Stefan has had a busy summer. He's also went to Spain and France. While in Spain he found a couple of new breweries. Dua Sparkling Beer has released a Grisette. This is a style you don't find too often in cans. How could we pass this up? Grisette is a 4.2% farmhouse ale. It's really easy to drink and a great intro beer to this style. We really enjoyed it. Drunken Bros has released a series of beers based on famous dead musicians. Kurt is a DIPA make with citra and amarillo. It's not the most exciting DIPA we've had but it definitely gets the job done. Would love to try the whole series.

Stefan did a really quick visit to the US and grabbed a few beers while he was there. We've featured Gotahold on the show before. This time we're checking out Off the Beaten Path. It's a Munich Dunkel with a 5.5% ABV. Smooth, malty and just endless drinkable, damn I wish we could get more over here. Soul & Spirits is a Memphis, TN brewery. They are new to us, but they did a rauchbier. You don't see many of those in the US, so this was a must try. We were not disappointed. Smoke Stack is a 5.7% ABV rauchbier but not the traditional style. You don't get the sausage flavor from German rauchbier. This is more smokey and balanced. You get the smoking but it tastes like natural smoke without falling into liquid smoke. It's a pretty great and makes us want to find more beers from this brewery.

We were really sad when we read that Baghaven would cease prodcution of their terrific wild ales. They were one of the standout labels in the slowly crumbling Mikkeller empire. Fortunately the head brewer at Baghaven has started his own brand and it's off to a blast. Riesling Blomst is a Danish wild ale mashed with Rielsing grapes and then mixed with red and white elderflowers. After that they dry hopped it with French Barbe Rouge hops. The result is pure delicious elderflower like juice. The second beer we tried is Transcending Terroir. Made in collaboration with De Garde Brewing from Oregon, they blend Oregon Wild Ale with Danish Saison and then aged it on oak barrels before mixing in Pinot Noir grapes. If that wasn't enough, they give it another year in oak barrels to let it rest. The end results is a fizzy Pinot Noir that is the perfect summer drink. If this how Insight Cellars is starting, they are off to amazing things.
#beer #drinks #craftbeer #wildale #danishwildale
It's summertime and what could be more summer than a larger and a red ale? There aren't many releases from Sanitas Brewing in Sweden. They have over 200 beers released todate. Why someone decided that the Lime Lager would be perfect to export is beyond us. It's a lager with lime puree added. This one didn't work for us at all. Next is Keane Brewing Midgardsormen red ale. This American red is slightly hoppy with a malty finish. It's a great attempt at a hoppy red ale that didn't quite get us there.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #lager #redale
While not exactly a lost episode, it did get missed in the spring. We have two beers that celebrated Påsköl, Easter beers. We've said we would never do another Easter beer episode because Easter beers are usually the worst. This year Swedish brewers decided to embrace the holiday and release a bunch of new beers. We tried Prophecy Brewing at the Malmö Beer and Whiskey Festival. They were the highlight of the festival. We enjoyed Crucifixion and thought we should give it a proper review when it was released for Easter. En Aleigen Påsköl 2023 is an annual release and instead of a dark larger or maibock, we get a farmhouse ale. It's quite a surprise from this nanobrewery.

Paddy's is a popular bar in Malmö. The weekends are packed with young and old hanging out, listening to music and having beer. On a random Monday, it's not quite a busy, which means it's perfect for podcasting. They have a lot of taps but not always a creative selection. We picked out two of the more interesting options from the taps. Magic Rock High Wire Mandarin is a West Coast IPA with the addition of mandarin and oarnage blossom. Dugges Big Black Violet will be more divisive to beer drinkers outside of Scandanivan. It's a sour beer with liquorice and violet. It's an interesting beer but one that liquorice fans should enjoy.

Brasserie d-Achouffe is a Belgian brewery that makes traditional Belgian styles plus Belgian interpretations of modern styles. Chouffe Houblon is their take on a DIPA. It's a 9% ABV made with Belgian yeasts giving it a fun, twisted take on classic DIPA expectations. Swedish berwers beerbliotek likes to play with different styles. Their releases have really run the spectrum of brewing possibilities. Purely selfish reasons is their take on a Belgian Tripel. It's got what you expect from the style to more less success.

We're at Malmö Salluhallen. So many good places to have beers and food. This time we try one of the best pizza places in Malmö, Noi. Noi makes amazing Neopolitian style pizzas and always has Italian beers on tap from Ritual Labs. We got to try the Ritual Pils. This light, crisp, easy to drink pils perfectly compliments the rich cheesy goodness of the pizza. We pair it with Ritual Labs Make West Coast IPA Great Again. It's also a homerun IPA that's light, refreshing and just what you want with some amazing pizza.

Summer is upon us and we want some something fruity. Fortunately, Two Tides is here with a solutions. Layerz - Mango Passionfruit is a 7% ABV fruited sour with mango, orange, key lime, coconut, granola and vanilla. It's lip smackingly good. We follow that up with a crazy collab beer from Nothern Monk. This could be the case of too many chefs. They teamed up with Amundsen Brewery and Holy Goat Brewing to create a 10% ABV imperial stout with salted caramel, muscavado sugar and vnailla. It's a strange beer coming from a group of breweries that know how to make amazing stouts.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #imperialstout #sourbeer #fruitbeer
We picked two high ABV beers this episode from very opposite sides of the beer spectrum. We've been enjoying Polly's Brew Co. for the last couple of years and they are celebrating their 5th anniversary with a quadruple IPA. Five Years is a 13.2% ABV quadruple IPA dry hopped with mosaic and Idaho 7. It's intense. Evil Twin NYC Even More Kihoskh has been teaming up with Danish beer shop and convience store Kihoskh. This release called Even More Kishoskh is an imperial stout with an 11% ABV. It's got hazelnut, coffee and hazelnut coffee. This is a coffee beer first and foremost. If that's not your style, you've been warned.

We're keeping it local with two Swedish breweries. Northern Swedish brewery Skellefteå Bryggeri really likes to play with their beer names. We love the names if we don't always appreaciate the contents within. When you release a pilsner called God (Good in Swedish), you know we couldn't help but review it. Bringing it a little closer to home, Skånish brewers Wapnö have released a smoked beer. Norvid is a 5.7% smoked beer, a style that isn't normally brewed outside of Germany. How does this compare to the German standards, you'll have to listen to find out.

Remember when Mikkeller used to make all sorts of beers and not just lagers and pilsners. What's on Tap Podcast remembers. We brought out two classic beers from the past to try them today. Have they stood the test of time? First is Mikkeller Black 2007, a 17.5% imperial stout that packs quite a punch. Originally it had whisky, vanilla, oak, chocolate and hint of liquorice. After that we try the Mikkeller San Diego Vanilla Shake 2019, a 13.4% abv imperial stout with coffee, vanilla and aged in bourbon barrels.

It's been far, far too long since we had a game of beers episode. That's why we had to bring back Björn to challenge Martin to an epic game. New rules, new games, same basic nonsense. Stefan picked some tricky beers this time. Could you guess all six beers? Join us for Game of Beers: The Rematch

We have two fun styles on the episode. Chimay is does classic Beglian ales. Best know for their dubble, quad and triple ales, they took their strong dark ale and aged in French oak, American oak and Whisky barrels and created Chimay Grande Reserve Fermentee en Barriques. It's a limited edition that was released in 2018. According to their notes, it's best appreciated between 6 months and 1 year. This is a bit outside that range. Cascade Blackcap Raspberry is one of their standard beers. It's a sour blond ale aged for 28 months then Black Cap raspberries were added and aged for another 2 months. This the 2016 edition, which we think helps the beer.

Martin goes cellar diving again and turned up a couple of beers for us. We get to revisit a Remmarlov collab doppelbock simply called Doppelbock. We originally reviewed this back in 2019. How does an 11.5% doppelbock hold up after 4 years? It hasn't slipped by much. Then Martin brings out a barrel aged stout brom Den Bryggande Holländaren. Jonas, Barrel Aged Dessert Stout is brewed with coconut sugar and aged for 6 months in Torres wine barrels with cinnamon and vanilla. It's also been hanging out for 4 years. There lots of flavors here to dig into.

We headed out to Brewdog Malmö. It's been awhile since we've been there but it's always good to checkin with some familiar places. They had two styles of beer we don't review very often on the show. Deya I'll Check the Links is a grisette, which is a type of farmhouse ale. These are usually lower abv beers meant to drunk in large quantities around a dinner table. This one doesn't disappoint. Local brewery Hyllie Bryggeri has released their take on a trappist ale simply called Trappish. It's a collaboration with Brewdog. This toasted almond abbey ale is a little on the dry side but a fun edition to the Hyllie Bryggeri catalog.

It's always a great episode when we get to review one of our favorite weird, beer styles. We to review another Lichtenhainer beer. To refresh your memory, image a lightly smoked gose or berliner wiesse. It's a bit of an aquired taste but once you try it, it's one you want try every time you find a brewery brave enough to create one. Belgium brewery Alvinne has Fumo Van Chile, an imperial Lichtenheiner with smoked pepper, salt and coriander seeds. It's a colaboration with Chilean brewers Granizo. After that we get to try a sparkling ale from The Bruery. Spritz This!: Terroir Project is a barrel-aged sparkling ale with Syrah grapes. It's kind of like a sparkling wine. It's an unusual beer as well and makes a great pairing with the Alvinne beer.

After having a very delicious sandwich at Poms Mackor in Salluhallen, we were on our way when we spotted some interesting beers at Falafels and Burgers. We were stuffed from the previous stop so we didn't get anything to eat here. We will come back to try those burgers and falafel. We did get two UK beers. Burning Sky Out of Vogue is an American pal ale made with cascade, chinnok, palisade, simcoe and centennial hops. It's a light refreshing and would pair nicely with one of those tasty looking burgers. Beak Parade is a hazy NEIPA. It's made with citra, mosaic and Idaho 7 hops. It's a strong blend of juicy tropical fruits. We really need to come back to try more beers and have some burgers.

This is one tasty episode. We went to Salluhallen to try some of local food and beer offers. Of course we had to grab a reuben sandwich from Poms Mackor. They have best sandwiches and beer choices in Malmö. The smokey, tangy pastrami sandwich pairs perfectly with the two beers selected. Ofrälse Cloud Juice is a hazy IPA made with nelson sauvin, mosaic and cryo citra. This nanobrewery is just getting started and hopefully we'll see more in the future. We follow that up with one of Omnipollo's Pleroma sour beers. This one is raspberry peach creme brulee. Another entry in this great line of Omnipollo sour beers.

We hit the first beer festival in the Skane region. The Malmo Beer and Whiskey Festival has been around for years. We're just excited to be attending a festival together again. The festival is packed full of local breweries both new and old. We were able to interview people from both. We got to talk to Kavlinge Bryggeri, Television Brewing, Mustival Craft Trade, Brekeriet and Vreta Kloister Bryggeri. It was an exciting time and we tried so many great beers. We can't wait for next year.

We don't intentially try to review anniversary beer releases. We just end up getting them some how. Arpus is celebrating their 5th anniversary this year. To celebrate this event, they released a triple dry hopped IPA called 5 Year Anniversary Triple Dry Hopped IPA. They released 5 different beers, a quadruple IPA, imperial stout, tipa and smoothy sour. We need to track down the others. Bulgarian brewery Sofia Electric has teamed up with Mikkeller to release a one off version of the Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast called Beer Geek Balkan Breakfast. This imperial dessert stout is brewed with Medenka pastries and vanilla with honey an muskovado sugar added. A medenka pastry is a honey cookie dipped in chocolate. This is a super sweet beer that overwhelms you.

Of course Stefan didn't bring back enough beers from Italy for one episode. He brought back enough for two episodes. Brasseria Della Fonte does classic styles. Robust Porter is a classic American style porter. It's true to the style and gives you the roasted, slightly smokey flavors you want from a porter. We don't have just one porter style on this episode. Ritual Labs partnered with Moersleutel to create Four Brothers. This is a 7% ABV Baltic porter that is light and easy to drink. It's always fun to visit some styles we don't see very often these days.
#beer #drinks #craftbeer #porter #balticporter
Martin picked up a couple of beers at Systembolaget this week. DC Brau has seen several releases here. This is the 10th anniversary beer release. On the Wings of Armageddon is a classic West Coast DIPA. The big malty kind that was around before NEIPA became a thing. At 9.2% ABV, you'll want to sit back, relax and enjoy this beer. We've tried Destihl Russian imperial stouts on the show before. Normally they are barrel-aged. Privyet is the just the base beer that they've built their Russian imperial stout empire on. It does not disappoint. Once you try this, you understand why everyone wants the barrel-aged version.

We're feeling sour this episode. We have two fun sour beers from two fun breweries. Axiom is from Czech Republic. Sour Station is part of their Berliner Weisse sour series. Black Currant is a full of black currant but also has a roasted black pepper and Sumac spice. It's a not quite what it says on the label but it's a fun beer. 450 North Brewing Company is from Indiana. Rainbow Sherbet Cone is of the many sour smoothies in the long running SLUSHY XL series. This one has raspberry, orange and so much lime. It's like a daquiri in a can.

Ciao! We've got some fun new Italian beers to try. Stefan was on a work trip and you know what that means! He's bringing back beers. Bologna has a fun beer bars and bottle shops worth checking out if you're in the area. He picked up Busa Dei Briganti Multiverse Vol 3. This is a DIPA with all the hallmarks of a classic DIPA. Italian DIPA are getting better but still a bit to go. After that we try Birrificio Altotevere A-T Doppel. Now this was a solid beer with lots of caramel notes. It was a surprise hit!

Martin is once again cleaning out his cellar. He found a couple of golden treats for us to review. Baghaven Granadilla Blend 1 is the only blend of this wild ale to date. Aged in French oak foeder and then aged on yellow passionfruit, this four year old wild ale is drinking great. Avery Mephistopheles is one of the big dogs of yesteryear. Avery releases these high abv stouts still but they are easier to find. Back in 2014, Mephistopheles was a very hyped beer. According to Untappd, they quit making it back in 2019. This 8 year-old imperial stout clocks in at a whopping 17.1% avb. How does it hold up after so many years? Listen and find out.

We're going sour this episode. Martin found a new lambic from Belgium that he couldn't wait to try. Kestmont Groene Kruisbes is a gooseberry lambic. It's a sweet and sour experience. It's always exciting to try a new lambic maker. Stefan was looking through the webshops and saw a Jolly Pumpkin that he's always wanted to try. Bam Biere is a classic Jolly Pumpkin beer. They started releasing their beers in cans instead of bottles and that's dropping the price a bit. This farmhouse saison is a great introduction to saisons. Light, hoppy with just a hint of barnyard funk, this is a great gateway beer to the amzing world of saisons.

We're traveling all over the place this episode and kind of getting famous. We travel To the Milky Way and Back XI via Evil Twin NYC. This is the 11th release in the series and it's a milkshake IPA with blueberry, matcha, marcona almonds, vanilla and some milk sugar. It's as crazy as it sounds. Romanian brewers Blackout Brewing does a good job making us Almost Almost Famous. There is still a lot do in that regard, but making an amazing double IPA is no work at all. This DIPA has lots of Mosiac, Idaho 7 and Cashmere hops for an amazing blend of hoppy goodness.

We thought Frosty Beard Brewing's Marcus was our friend but after trying these three beers, we're not so sure. What can only be described as "truck stop beers", these three beers don't qualify as beer so much as lightly alcoholic water. First we have Aass IPA with papaya and guava. It's as bad as it sounds. Next up we have Mack Tropical IPA called Mango Passion. There is no passion here. Just a dead, lifeless relationship, like your parents. Finally, Hansa Anana IPA. It looks like you're supposed to believe that there is pineapple in this beer. The closest any pineapple got to this beer is Ananas icon on the top of the beer. Thanks Marcus, you make us want to quit drinking beer.

Keeping the Swedish spirit alive, we have two more local beers. Ability Brewing is located here in Malmö. It's part of Malmö Brewing and can be found exclusivly at their taproom. This is the first stout they've released outside of the taproom. Double Mash Vanilla Imperial Stout is an 11% ABV stout with vanilla. They don't tell us more than what's on the label. It's a dark roasted malt stout with lots of dark characters. Electric Nurse is from Ladvetter, Sweden. It's a little trip up north from here. Frog King is a Belgian strong dark ale. Also clocking in 11.5% ABV, this beer promises barrel-aged belgiany goodness. Sadly, it's not leaping very high.

It's the first episode of 2023. We wanted to kick the year off with some local beers. We've had a lot of foreign beers on the podcast of late, so we wanted to bring things back home. Potum Brewery has been putting out quite a bit at the end of 2022. We picked up a can of one of their NEIPAs called Narayan. It's a solid entry into the crowded NEIPA market. Made with Idaho 7 and dry hopped with Amarillo and Talus. We're really looking forward to seeing more from this brewery. Train Station Brewery Dark Side Imperial Ale 2022 won the bronze last year at a Swedish beer festival. This beer has been around since 2015 and we thought it would a fun style to try. We haven't had many dark ales to review on the show. This one hits the spot.

It's the last episode of the year. All good things must come to an end and so we'll send off the year with three beers. We have Skygazer Watercolors first. It's a 5.5% abv sour ale with apricot, cherry, tangerine, blueberry, marshmellow and milk sugar. It's melange of fruit flavors. Next is Nogne Ekstra God Jul 2022. This a Belgian strong ale is a big beer. Clocking in with a massive 15.5% abv, you know where all those abv points are. Finally we have a Hoof Hearted imperial stout. All My Friends Are Dead is a 13.%% double-mashed stout with roasted hazelnuts, vanilla, coffee and touch of milk sugar. It's a great way to send off the year. We hope you had a great 2022 and drank as many amazing beers as we did. Happy New Year and we'll see you next year.

Advent 2022 Day 24 is here and it's OMG...back to back Lervig beers and it's our 500th episode. Now that's the way to end this Advent. Lervig Coconut Coffee Stout by Rackhouse is an imperial stout with coconut, rum and bourbon. It's lots of wood notes and sweetness. You just want to open presents and sip this beer. Since it's our 500th episode we have a bonus beer review as well. Evil Twin has the Christmas beer for you. Advent 2022 Day 23 is the pentulitmate day. It's been an incredible calendar and it's ending strong. Lervig Paragon is one of the best barleywines. It's an annual release and it's one of the beers we look forward every year. This is from 2018. Each year it's a little different. The 2018 version is more malt and bourbon forward than other years. It's sweet and boozy in all the best way.

Advent 2022 Day 22 brings us a second Prairie Artisan Ales beer. This time it's one of the world famous stouts. Snickerdoodle Vanilla Noir is a bourbon barrel-aged stout with snickedoodle chia cookies and vanilla. It's should come as no surprise that this does not disappoint.

Advent 2022 Day 21 is a sweet walk in a mountain stream. Mountain Walking Brewery Sweets is part of the Sweets line. This pastry sour is brewed with oats for that incredible mouthfeel and then marshmellows, kiwi and passion fruit. It's desert in a can. This is also a special episode because it marks the 300th episode that Martin has appeared on. We bring on a second surprise beer to celebrate. You'll have to listen to find out what it is.

It's finally here. It wouldn't be an advent calendar without To Ol. Advent 2022 Day 20 is To Ol Mexican Hot Chocolate BA Imperial Stout 2022. It's a mouthful to say and delicious mouthful to consume. Cinnamon, chocolate and chili mixed with walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, and lactose into a classic To Ol imperial milk stout. It's then aged in bourbon barrels for 12 months. How can you not want to drink this?

Advent 2022 Day 18 bring another great stout. Griffin Claw Flying Buffalo Vintage 2020 is a Russian imperial stout. There are lots of vintages of Flying Buffalo but none for 2020, weird. This 12% ABV stout is aged on bourbon barrels for 9 months before being released at peak barrel. It's a thick beer but a light boozy treat. Advent 2022 Day 16 brings another geuze. This truely is a wonderful time of the year. Boon Geuze Vat 93 was released as a mixed vat four pack. Every one of the beers has been outstanding. Vat 93 is no exception. Like the others, this is light, funky with hints of lemon and apple. If you can find any of the Boon Vat series, be sure to pick them up.

Advent 2022 Day 15 is a real conumdrum. Azvex's The Fermi Paradox is a double ipa from Liverpool, England. It's hopped with a delicious blend of strata, motueka and citra. What is a Fermi Paradox? It is the discrepancy between the lack of conclusive evidence of advanced extraterrestrial life and the apparently high likelihood of its existence, and by extension of obtaining such evidence. Just keep looking to the skies and drinking this beer.

Advent 2022 Day 14 is an impressive pastry sour. Prairie Artisan's Cleveland Cowboy is a cherry pie treat. This imperial pastry sour has tart cherries, sweet cherries, vanilla, cinnamon and pecans. This legit tastes like cherry pie with a little vanilla. We lose our minds a little in this tsunami of sweet and tart cherries.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2022 #prairieartisan #pastrysour #sourbeer
Advent 2022 Day 13 is a hazy day. Monkish is one of the leaders in creating hazy double ipas. Foggy Windows is just what you would expect from them. This julicy hazy douple ipa is made with nelson, galaxy and extra citra hops. It's damn near a perfect dipa.
#advent2022 #beer #drinks #craftbeer #monkish #dipa #hazyipa
Advent 2022 Day 12 is just kismet. Westvleteren 12 on day 12 of the calendar might just be the most perfect combo. Is there a better beer to feature on a calendar than one of the best beers in the world? This beer is a legend for a reason. It's a just a great experience and we're thrilled to feature it on the show.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2022 #westveleteren #trappistbeer #belgianbeer #belgianquad
Advent 2022 Day 11 is anything but an abomination. Abomination Brewing Social Distancing Isolation is the perfect to isolate with on a cold winter night. Social Distancing Isolation is a blend of two dipa, Social Distancing and Still Social Distancing. Made with golden promise, wheat and flaked oats, it's then double dry hopped with mosaic, enigma, nelson, moteuka, strata and citra. This is on hazy juicy bomb.

Advent 2022 Day 10 takes back to the darkside. Alesmith Barrel-Aged Speedway Stout 2022 is a fun annual release and we're excited to feature it on show. We've been getting more Speedway Stout variants recently. Probably one of the few benefits of the pandemic...more imported stouts! It doesn't disappoint. It's a boozy sipper with lots of rich bourbon notes. We're going to sit by the fire and enjoy this.
#beer #craftbeer #advent2022 #drinks #alesmit #speedway stout #imperialstout #stouts
Advent 2022 Day 09 changes things up a bit. We've been deep into dipa, pastry sours and imperial stouts. We're getting a little lighter with Crooked Stave New Zealand Style Pilsner. This is a classic German-style pilsner brewed and dry-hopped with hops from New Zealand. I wish we could tell which hops but if we did we would have to kill you. It's way too close to Christmas to end up on Santa's naughty list at this point.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #crookedstave #pilsner
No, it's not Halloween but Advent 2022 Day 08 makes us feel a little spooked. Drekker Cherry Mango Pineapple Braaaaaaaaains is a frightfully good pastry smoothy. Get all cherry, mango and pineapple with a hint of sea salt and vanilla. Such a juicy treat!
#advent2022 #beer #craftbeer #drinks #drekker #sourbeer #pastysour
Advent 2022 Day 07 is another hoppy treat. Track Brewing teamed up with Range Brewing to create a double milkshake ipa. Meet Me in the Middle is filled with citra, mosaic and galaxy hops with a little lactose. It's a tropic bomb.
#advent2022 #beer #craftbeer #drinks #trackbrewing #milkshakeipa #dipa #nepia
Advent 2022 Day 06 is a banana stout. If it's not banana, is it even worth drinking? The Bruery The Bananswer is a bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with bananas, milk sugar, Madagascar vanilla beans, cacao nibs, cocoa powder and walnuts. It's a great warming beer. Bananas are the new Christmas fruit.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2022 #bananastout #imperialstout #stouts #theburery
Advent 2022 Day 05 brings the hops. We love the hops but the hops are hard to talk about. Pressure Drop Escape the City got us talking. Another great entry in the advent calendar and it's full of strata and citra hops. What's not to love?
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #advent2022 #pressuredrop #neipa #hazyipa #dipa
Advent 2022 Day 04 is one sweet treat. Vault City Apple Maple Pecan is a great beer to warm the soul on the cold winter nights. Apple, maple syrup and pecans give the feeling of a candied apple. It reminds us of fall and winter treats.
#advent2022 #beer #craftbeer #drinks #vaultcity #sourbeer #mixedfermentation #pastrysour
Advent 2022 Day 03 brings us a true classic. It wouldn't be an advent calendar without at least one gueuze. Martin gifted us with Cantillion Gueuze 2022. WOW...this beer really blows it out of the water. They really knocked it out of the park this year. And the new labeling is really nice too. #beer #drinks #cantillon #craftbeer #gueuze
Advent 2022 Day 2 has us wandering deep in the forest. The Lollipop Forest isn't for the weak of heart. Fortunatly, it's delicious. Deciduous Lollipop Forest Strawberry Shortcake is exactly the kind of forest you want to get lost in. It's full of strawberries, vanilla and slightly sour. It's a perfect ray of light for these dark winter days.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #decidousbrewing #sourale #strawberry #vanilla
Advent 2022 Day 01 kicks off with a classic and one of Stefan's favorite beers. Founders Backwoods Bastard is just a classic Founders beer. Filled with rich Bourbon barrel flavors and rich scotch ale. It's a caramel, roasted malts and just enough spice to keep you coming back for me. We can't think of a better way to kick off the calendar.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #founders #backwoodbastard #weeheavy #scotchale
It's that time again. Time to get into the holidays with our annual Systembolaget Christmas Beers review episode. There were over 168 Christmas beers released this year. It's tough to choose from so many options. We picked five beers to highlight this year. We start with Spirit of Sweden Polka, a peppermint non-alcohol beer. Brygghus 19 decided to enter the julöl market with a Julseltzer. It's a bold choice filled with bold flavors of traditional Swedish julmust. Vreta Kloster Bryggeri is gifted us with a Belgian quadrupel called Vreta Klosters Julöl, a very traditional Belgian quad. Remmarlöv Gårdsbryggeri has released a new beer this year for Christmas. Julöl is a rich toasty American red ale. Finally, we end with an En Aleigen Brewery old ale called Christmas Shilling. It's an Christmas gift to Sweden.

Going IPA this episode with a DIPA and TIPA and all from Germany. Fuerst Wiacek have released Feral, a DDH DIPA with galaxy and simcoe hops. At 8% it's a pleaser. Atelier Vrai Margin Call is a 9.45 abv TIPA made with citra, mosaic, talus and strata. It's beer five in the m:o:a:s:s series. These two beers once again prove that Germany is making many more things than pilsners and lagers. We really need to take a roadtrip to Germany soon.

Sometimes you just need something light and refreshing to try. Fortunately we have two something's light and refreshing to try. Logsdon Farmhouse Ales Table Bretta is a 4.8% farmhouse saison. It's bottle refermented with saccharomyces and brettanomyces yeasts that give the beer a light, funky flavor. Next is Bullfrog Le Roar Grrrz Framboise. It's an oak aged raspberry wild ale. These two beers are perfect for all the heavy meals we'll be consuming this winter.

Fall has arrived and so have stouts. But these aren't any stouts. These are really old stouts. Like...way to old stouts. We jump in the way back machine for a couple of beers that probably should have been consumed 5 years ago. First up is from 2011 with Dark Horse Plead the Fifth. This bourbon barrel aged imperial stout has seen better days but still has some of roasty barrel aged flavors we love. The next stop is in 2015. Baladin Metodo Classico 2015 is a biere de champagne, which is a beer treated in a wine production process. Made with three refermentation cycles, each lasting two years, this beer isn't aging like fine wine but still has some play left in the bottle.

Trying something new from a well reviewed brewery and a new style from a new brewery. It's a lot of new stuff this episode. Known for their IPA's and stouts, Stigbergets has been branching out. They have a line of traditional German style beers and now they releasing their first wild ale. It's a young fresh wild ale with hints of tart apple. It's a good first entry in a fledgling wild ale program. Also from Gothenburg is Gothenburg Brew's Chuck the Oyster. Oyster stouts are a forgotten style. You used to be able to find them on the shelves on a regular basis. These days if you get one a year, it's miracle. It's a fun episode with two new wild beers to try.

We make it out and about again and find something fun. Beer Ditch is one of the best beer bars in Malmö. It's a must stop location if you're in the area. With a constant rotation of taps and a very impressive bottle/can list, there is something for every beer lover. We try out Aslin West Coast Cortes & His Men. This IPA comes in at 7% and is made with Citra, El Dorado and Chinook hops. There are so many breweries that make Florida wiesse you would almost think it's its own style. French brewery Pophin really loves this style and makes tons of them. We're trying the Fruit De La Passion/Vanille.

Neon Raptor is celebrating their fourth anniversary with three special beers. Who doesn't love The Flintstones? No one that's who and they have created three beers inspired by the cartoon classic. Yabba is a birthday cake kick of an imperial stout with Belgian candy syrup, dark muscovado sugar and blossom honey with hints of almond and chocolate. Dabba is a double IPA with Mosiac Cryo, Cryo POP and Cashmere hops for a fruit treat. Finally, Doo is an imperial sour with red cherry, blueberry, blackcurrant with vanilla and cinnamon. It's a very happy anniversary.

Martin breaks out some geuze...gueuze...either way we get to try two new brewies specializing in geuze style beers. Oude Geuze DeVille a L'ancienne 2022 is from the brew pub Den Herberg. They make a lot of traditional styles of Belgian ales from dubbels to blondes to everything inbetween. Eylenbosch Oude Gueuze 2021 is from Brouwerij Eylenbosch. They are smaller and more focused on farmhouse ales and spontaneously fermented beers. Are they two new breweries to look out for or should we give them more time to mature? Let's find out.
It's our 7th Anniversary. We're as shocked as you are. It's been seven great years and so many amazing and not so amazing beers. There's been great beer festivals and awesome inteviews. One thing we haven't covered is beers and food. This is our first beer and food episode. We start with beer and candy. It might seem like an odd combination but it can be amazing. We created a regular Willy Wonka table full of different types of candies and four different types of beer. We have sour, fruit, chocolate, liquorice and some other candies to pair with a sour beer, a lager, an IPA and a stout. It's a lot of fun with a lot of options and we learn something in the process.
Stefan was travelling again and he visited the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores island chain as well as Lisbon, Portugal. Of course, this means he brings back some beers to try. Sao Miguel is the only place in Europe that grows tea and pineapples. The pineapple plantations are all hothouse based which creates smaller and sweeter fruit. They aslo create a pineapple beer called Ceveja de Ananas 1864. It's fruit beer which is a fun entry into the beer world. In Lisbon in a back alley there is a beer bar called Outra Lado. It's a great craft beer bar with lots of options. Every year they team up with a brewery to releaes their anniversay beer. Barona Outra Lado Third Anniversary Barrel Project is a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout.
It's a dark and heavy episode. We have two big, heavy Norwegian imperial stouts this episode. Amundsen Dessert in a Can Coffee Coconut and Caramel Macaroon is what it says on the can. Coffee, coconut and caramel macaroons give this a sweet, delicious imperial stout incredible flavor and keep it from being way too sweet. Lervig Off the Rack is their premium stout series and they rarely disappoint. Australia Dark Rum 2021 is a blend of imperial stout with chocolate, vanilla and caramel with another stout to balance it out. It's then aged on dark rum barrels for 12 months to create a unique experiece that you'll want more than one bottle of.
We make it back to Bishops Arms Gustav Torg for some fun new beers. They've slowly become one of the best beer bars in all of Sweden and a must stop place for any beer fan. They always have a great tap list and an impressive bottle list. We're joined by Pontus to try Pentrich Brewing Saint Monday first. This Wee Heavy is a collaboration with Cult of Oak. Brewed with maple syrup, it's rich caramel and toffee notes are complimented with a light smokey back flavor. Hidden Springs on tap is exciting. It's kind of crazy we can get them in Sweden. Life on Standby is an apple brandy barrel aged English-style barleywine. It's boozy and intense.
Pomona Island Tamaki I is a fruit beer from England. It's made with plums and grilled Hojicha tea added to a farmhouse sour. The result is a delightful blend of plums and tea. It's a playful beer that will be loved by some and disliked by others. Overall, a very fun experiment. De Ranke Kriek de Ranke 2021 is a 70% Belgian sour mixed with 30% cherry lambic. This is a beer that needs to be drunk fresh otherwise you'll miss the cherries. Since they are mixing two things instead of adding cherries to a lambic, you miss the complexity of the cherries that would evolve over time.
We get out of the house and make it to Stormgatan. It's a great taproom for Hyllie Brewery. We were excited to finally feature the location on the show. They a bit of a tap takeover going and lots of guest beers on tap. We were able to try Lithuanian brewery Genys Organic Tattoo Lager. IT's a light, crisp very crushable lager to enjoy over and over again. We can't go to Hyllie's taproom without having at least one Hyllie Brewing beer to review. Hyllie 212 is an American pale ale that hits the spot on a warm summe day.
Sadly, the party is coming to an end and so is out time with Pontus and Bjorn. Moerslutel 6 Year Series wraps up with Margreet and Sjaak. Margreet is the biggest beer in the series. A whopping 16% ABV freeze-distilled beer. Based on the dutch dessert red velvet cake, it's mixed with sour cherries, raspberries, white oak, vanilla and cacao nibs. Lastly we have Sjaak, a 14% ABV imperial stout. The chocolate imperial stout is aged in bourbon and brandy barrels. It comes in a little hot but puts a great cap on this series.
We are keeping the party going with the Moersleutel 6 Year Series. The party goes up and so does the ABV. Tom is a 10% ABV Red Rye wine. This is a new style for us and tastes a lot like an imperial red ale. Malty and delicious, this is a real hit. Pim jumps up a little with 11% ABV. This chocolate imperial stout is classic Moersleutal stout. Rich, chocolatey and delicious, this reminds us why we fell in love with Moersleutel in the first place. Pontus and Bjorn agree!
I can't believe it's already been a year. Moersleutel is celebrating their anniversary and they've released a new beers series. 6 Year Series has six really, really big beers. We start with the low abv beers of 8% and 10%. Max is a double new england IPA. Made with Topaz, Idaho 7, Idaho 7 Cryo and Triumph hops, it's a lot of beer that comes in a bit too sweet. Rob is a Triple IPA made with Galaxy, Eclipse and Topaz hops. Fruity and sweet, it's a good setup for the rest of beers. Of course, Bjorn and Pontus join us to kick off the party.
We don't have meads very often on the podcast. Mostly because they are too damn expensive. We're joined by Bjorn and Pontus on the show and we break open a bottle of mead from one of the best mead producers in the world. Marlobobo is a Norwegian meadery and they have been producing amazing stuff. Bourbon BA Wildberry Doofus is a bourbon barrel aged bochet with blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, bilberries, black- and red currants. Moersleutel is back on the podcast. There is another Barcode release and it's a doozy. Platinum and Pink is a blend of Can Brulee and the Bolt & the Beast added to bourbon barrels and the mixed in with loads of peanuts and cacao nibs.
Thanks to Brexit, we don't really get many beers out of the UK these days. Thankfull, Scotland has been filling in that hole in our beer hearts. Vault City is from Edinburgh, Scotland. They are known for their fruited beers. Based on the Danish dessert Drommekage, Red Fruit Coconut Dreamcake is a strawberry, honeyberries and mango are mixed with toasted coconut flakes. Then we have Coffee Poached Pear Praline Crumble. Coffee infused pear sour with homemade praline crumble mixed in. It's a true dessert beer.
Poland is really making waves in the beer scene. They are reaching beyond lagers and pilsners and creating new and exciting styles. Browar NOOK is creating pastry stouts, smoothie sours, hazy ipas and so much more. We have two of their beers to try. Apfelstrudel is an apple strudel pale ale. It's a weird combo that kind of works. We also get to try Cinnamon Danish. This stout is based on a cinnamon danish, one of the best baked items ever. Sadly, this doesn't hit those highs.
We have two Danish beers this episode. And they aren't from To Ol or Mikkeller. Caleidoskope and Swedish brewers Akia have done a joint collab called Two Great Mondays. Each brewery has done their version of this hazy IPA. We are trying the Caleidoskope version. I wonder if we can find the Akia version. BrygBrygBryg has quitely been cranking out beers in Copenhagen for awhile. We're trying Temple 2022. This farmhouse saison is red wine barrel aged brewed with honey and black currant. The beer is a fantastic experience with loads of yummy saison funk and a hint of blackcurrant and honey.
We have two new breweries on the show. Both are from England. First up is S43 out of Middlesbrough. Maris the Dank Engine uses columbus, chinook, citra and simcoe and then double dry hopped with cryo citra, cryo columbus, chinook and centennial hops. It's a tropical flavor bomb of goodness. We also try Play Brew which has released a collaboration with S43. Love Note is also double dry hopped IPA but the hops remain a mystery. Both are worthy of great discussion.
Beers of Summer continues with low alcohol beers with only 3.5% ABV: We want to help you enjoy your summer with out getting wasted. With 3.5% ABV beers, you get more flavor and fun. The last episode, the non-alcoholic beers left us a little flat. This time we don't miss the booze and just really enjoy the flavors and styles. The beer world just keeps expanding and brewers are pushing themselves in new and exciting ways.
Summertime and the livings easy, so why shouldn't your beers. We know nothing beers the heat like an ice cold beer. But what if you can't drive or need to stay sober? Well fear not, we have a solution for you. We looked around and saw that the non-alcoholic beer market has really grown. No longer are you left with just bland, malty lagers. Now you can find ipas, stouts and sours. We review six non-alcoholic beers to help you beat the summer heat.
We got a little Irish and little Austrian today. Two beers from very countries. Hailing from Dublin, The Porterhouse Brew Co has released the third generation of of its award-winning Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. Around the Clock is a 12.5% ABV stout with hints of vanilla, caramel, liquorice, raisin, and toasted coconut...or that's what they say on the label. Brauhaus Bevog comes from Bad Radkersburg, Austria. This American Barleywine clocks in at 12.2% and has notes of dried fruits, caramel, vanilla, coconut, and cocoa. "Allegedly" But who knows what's on the label compared to what's in the bottle.
It's not often we see multiple red ales at Systembolaget. We had to do a red episode. Nynäshamns Ångbryggeri has released Roxen India Red Ale. It's a 7% abv smooth, caramel malty treat. This was a real surprise. It's an annual release and one we'll pick up every year. Sullivan's Brewing Company is from Ireland. They have released a true classic style red ale called Maltings Irish Ale. It's a fun bar friendly red ale that will please anyone looking for a relaxing beer at the end of the day.
We are still at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2022. In part 2 we have lots of fun talks with people from all over. Then Stefan and Martin sit down and do a little wrap-up of the festival and how we felt about this year. We had a lot of fun and Martin set some new records.
Interviews this episode:
Eric Trinoskey - Recycled Brewing
Joran van Ginderachter - Halfway Crooks
Olly Bartlett - Stockholm Brewing
We went to Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2022. It's a hell of festival. While not as a large as past years, this year felt like a rebuilding after the issues of the past two years. Still, it felt like one of the premiere beer festivals of Europe. Martin and Mathias couldn't join so Stefan is assisted by friend of the pod Chantra. We get into lots of beers and lots of interviews. This is part one of two episodes from MBCC.
Interviews include:
Peter øl - Oy brewing
Charlie wood - Crossover Blendery
Bob Slack - Pulpit Rock brewing
Hannes Grubber - Nerdbrewing
Stefan made it over to Helsinki, Finland recently. Of course he's bringing back some beers to try. Orava Brewing is from Turku, Finland. Sassy Shark is an 8% ABV DIPA. Made with Strata, Nelson Sauvin, Cashmere and Azacca hops, it's quite crushable. Stefan just got it because he liked the name. Lehe Pruulikoda is from Keila, Estonia. They made Heaven or Hell BBA. This American Barleywine is a balance of sweetness with bourbon notes. Yum!
We each brought a beer for this episode. It wasn't long ago Brewdog was the kind of the UK indie beer scene. My how those times have changed. We used to lots of their beers over here but these days, it's just the standard stuff. Martin did manage to get a can of Tree Haus, a Bavarian Helles. Stefan has been trying all the Stigbergets' beers he can get his hands on. They have been cranking out new releases like crazy. This time we're tyring Atlas, a hazy New England pale ale.
We got two Swedish beer or not as Martin discovers. Television Brewing is a nanobrewery from Stockholm. They have only released five beers so far. Helihopper is an English IPA. Bronx Brewery is a microbrewery from the Bronx and not the Stockholm area as Martin thought. It's in the name so we're all a little surprised. Boogie Down Winter is an American pale ale coming in at 6.3% ABV. Bronx Brewery has released over 200 beers. They are little more seasoned.
The gang of idiots is gathered together again. This week we get a little fruity. Anchorage Brewing Scream is a sour beer fermented and aged in Missouri oak foeder, then finished with Alaskan Haskap berries. We scream with delight! Next is Toppling Goliath Strawberry Shortcake Fandango. They want you to image a aromas of fresh cut strawberries and fluffy vanilla cake, topped with whipped cream frosting. We fandangdon't find all that. It's a sour power episode.
Mathias is still with us and he wanted to get crazy and review three beers in rapid fire. First up is from Chad Beer Specimen 4 is a 10% ABV double IPA. Poppels has a released a Rhum & Bourbon Stout. Finally, Ten Hands Darkness is a mead barrel aged imperial stout made with Sahtipaja mead barrels. It's a wild ride of flavors and styles.
OG host Mathias is back and to mark his triumphant return, he brought two beers with him. Cigar City Brewing favorite Marshal Zhukov's Russian Imperial Stout used to be a very sought after beer. These days it's a regular release. We're trying the 2018 release. How does it hold up after all these years. Brewdog Abstrakt 20 is a coffee milk English barleywine blended with a barrel aged stout. We originally reviewed this beer for our Brewdog X-mas calendar.
We got the whole crew together again and jumped into some exciting beers. Our last brewery from Arkansas called Gotahold. They have been releasing a series called Crooked and Steep. Batch No 2 is a bourbon barrel aged barleywine. After that we have Tree House Big Nugget. This imperial stout is barrel-blended with chocolate, almonds, toasted coconut with a hint of coffee. Nom!
We got the gang together and decided to review some beers. We're excited not just because it's our inane rambling and beers. They brought some beers to share. Moersleutel is back with their latest barcode 871999249947 (Platinum Orange). This is triple barrel aged imperial stout is using Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey and Belle Meade bourbon barrels. Following that is a beer from a new brewery for us. From Lincoln, NE Boiler Brewing Bourbon S'mores is an Elijah Craig barrel aged double mashed russian imperial milk stout with toasted marshmallows, vanilla beans, cacao nibs and graham crackers.
We're kind of excited about this episode. We've really enjoyed Newbarns from Scotland. They are making amazing largers and pilsners. When we saw they were doing a lowly Irish Dry Stout, we knew we had to try it. Newbarns Stout is a solid Irish Dry Stout that is just really delicious and easy to drink. This is a beer we could just have around to enjoy. Ozark Beer Co out of Arkansas has released their annual barrel aged stout called BDCS 2021. It's an imperial double cream stout aged in Bourbon barrels for 8 months. The results are soft, caramel, creamy and endlessly drinkable.
#drinks #beer #craftbeer #bdcs2021 #ozarkbeerco #imperialstout #creamstout #irishdrystout #newbarns #stout
We felt like getting a little weird this episode. Oozlefinch Beers & Blending from Virginia has made their way over to the European webshops. Crazy Pants is a sour ale with tangerine, orange, guanabana, vanilla and lactose. It's a delicious fruit burst. Cascade Brewing is known for their sour beers and this one keeps that legacy alive. Pistil Whipped is infused with saffron and chamomile. The enjoyment will depend on how much you enjoy saffron and/or chamomile.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #cascadebrewing #sourbeer #oozlefinch #guanabana #sourale
Things get a little crazy this week. Central Waters has released Why is the Cake Gone? We don't know but this bum barrel aged porter tastes like vanilla butter cream frosting. It's a heavenly experience. Surprisingly we've never had a Hoppin' Frog beer review on the show. It's always around and they do great beers. Gavel Slammer Monumental Dark Ale clocks in at a staggering 17.4% abv. It comes in a small can but packs a huge punch!
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #hoppinfrog #darkale #porter #centralwaters
First time on the show, Hop Butcher for the World has been creating a bit of a stir on this side of the pond. We were able to get our hands on a can of Normalize the Signal, a super tasty DIPA made with Mosaic and Sabro hops. We can see why they are so sought after. Next up is a gose from Evil Twin NY. Super Duper Fancy Gourmet, Artisanal and Uber Hand Selected Gose Style Ale made with aged hops, gourmet Italian wheat, the cutest coriander seeds, hand selected vanilla bean and Nordic deep sea salt, then aged on American oak. It doesn't get more super duper fancy than that.
Stefan made a trip back Arkansas. While he was there he checked a few breweries and brought back some choice selections to have on the show. Social Project is newest brewery in Arkansas and they creating quite a stir. Makai is a double IPA made with Sabro, Incognito and dry hopped with Sabro and Cashmere hops. Add a little milk sugar and the result is a smooth, delicious DIPA that ranks with the best. Natural State Beer Company only makes traditional German styles. NSB2 might not be stricktly traditional. It's a barrel aged doppel schwarzbier. It's a bourbon barrel aged delicious treat.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #naturalstatebrewing #schwarbier #dipa #socialproject
Oh yeah, show me some of that barrel aged love. This week is barrel aged week for us. Pohjala Triple Barrel is aged Bourbon and Rye Whiskey barrels for 24 months and then mixed with a bit Rye Ale that has been aged for 15 months in Rye Whiskey barrels. This is one intense barrel aged barleywine. Moersleutel barcode series is always a treat. 8719992492930 (blue and black) doesn't disappoint. This stout is aged on bourbon barrels for a year then they added a bunch of cacao nibs to build up the chocolatey goodness.
#beer #craftbeer #drinks #moersleutel #barcodeseries #imperialstout #barleywine #pohjala #barrelaged
This week we have a couple of hard to classify beers. Beligum brewery De Dolle is ales and triples. But we have a special release from them, the De Dolle Oerbier 2018. This bottle was made for the 5th anniversary of Belgoklubben Sweden. It's not quite the Belgian Strong Dark Ale you would expect. Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes (BFM) has released Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien a strong sour ale that is also from 2018. It has been aged in old wine barrels for one year. At 11% abv it's a real punch.

We haven't done a blind taste test in a very long time. It's time to do one again. Last time it was an IPA challenge. This time we tripled the ABV for a heady Triple IPA challenge. Martin and Stefan couldn't do this alone so we called for backup and got the crew together. We have 8 different TIPA to try and quite a variation on what a TIPA is. Let's see if Stigbergets, Other Half, Sierra Nevada, Omnipollo and other live up to the hype

We're getting a little outside the mainstream with this weeks selections. Svartberget Fjällbryggeri is an up and coming Swedish brewery. They've been working with a lot of different beer types in the past year. Once Upon a Time in Lichtenhain is a lichtenhainer style beer. If you're unfamiliar with the style, it's a smokey wheat beer. We've reviewed one before and it's a trip. Stockholm's Pang Pang Brewery also likes to work with different styles. Tully is a pineapple sour brewed with mango, pineapple and coconut and finished in Tullamore D.E.W XO rum casks. It's a pina colada treat.
This week we're going Dutch. The Netherlands has some amazing breweries and we've got two that are no stranger to the show. Brouwerij Kees has been releasing releasing their Barrel Project for years. They've been pretty good. Today we have Barrel Project 19.11, a barrel-aged barleywine aged on Knockando single malt scotch barrels for 8 months. After that we have a well reviewed friend of the show Moersleutel. Double Roast Kieni is a double-roasted imperial stout with coffee from the amazing Danish coffee roasters Coffee Collective.
We're back! Did you miss us? Did you have a happy holidays? We did! We're kicking off the new year with two great beers from Nerdbrewing. They started barrel aging their beers last year and we have two, Barrel series 007 and 009. Barrel series 007 is a rum barrel-aged imperial oatmeal stout aged on Barbados and Panama rum barrels. Barrel series 009 is a bourbon barrel aged imperial milk stout aged on George Remus Bourbon barrels. It's quite a difference the way an oatmeal stout and a milk stout handle barrel-aging.
As the year comes to a close, we gather together once more to celebrate life and enjoy friendship. We each looked for something special to share. Martin brought out a 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Vintage 2016. What makes this a vintage over a regular geuze release? It's cellared for up to 3-5 years before it's released instead of 6 months. The result is no two bottles are exactly the same and each promises a delightful experience. Stefan brought Moersleutel Indulgence Three from The Guild box. This Indulgence was aged in Mount Fuji rum barrels. It's got a rich dark sugar and raisin combo that is perfect for sipping and reflecting the past year.
Advent 2021 Day 24 is finally here and we're sad it's all come to an end. But we're leaving on high note with Lervig Rum Barrel-Aged 3 Bean Stout. Filled with cocoa, vanilla and tonka beans, this stout sat in rum barrels for half a year. The result is an incredible blend of vanilla, cocoa, cinnamon, coconut imperial stout. This one blew us away. There was so much happening in the glass and we kept finding more and more to like. It was a great ending to a great Advent Calendar. Have a happy holidays!
Advent 2021 Day 23 is from Firestone Walker. We've been lucky to get both their stouts, anniversary ales, sours and more here in Sweden. Back in 2016 they released a blonde barleywine called Helldorado. This blonde is tastes of vanilla and honey. It's smooth and sweet and without being sugary. We got it just at the right time. I don't think it would have been in that sweet spot for much longer. If you have this in your cellar, this is the Christmas to bring it out and drink it.
Advent 2021 Day 22 is from from the brewery that started our advent calendar all those years ago To Ol. It wouldn't be a What's on Tap podcast advent calendar without at least one of their beers. This year we got a real treat! Mine Is Bigger Than Yours is an amazing barleywine. Aged for 18 months in Port and Bourbon barrels, this barleywine picks up the best of both of those barrels and creates a wonderful sipping treat. This is a beer you want to pound but sit back, relax and enjoy. As our calendar is coming to close, it's time to slow down and appreciate things a little more.
Advent 2021 Day 21 is from English brewery Siren. A few years ago they were all over the place. Thanks to Brexit and evolving markets, Siren has been missing from Scandinavian shelves and shops for quite some time. Origin Story has more than 20 speciality malts, two separate mashes and three oak varieties. The result is a sweet, brown sugar, cola, maple imperial stout. It's so nice to try Siren again.
Advent 2021 Day 20 is from Estonian brewery Puhaste. Together with Russian breweries AF Brew and Zagovor, they have created one hell of a barrel-aged imperial stout. Trinity in Black is part of their Silver series. This is the Bourbon BA 2021 edition. It's aged in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels and clocks in at a 13.5% abv. Oh man is this good. We've never been disappointed with the Silver Series from Puhaste and can't wait to find more of these gems.
Advent 2021 Day 19 is from Cantillon. Cantillon helped bring lambic back into the mainstream. They have been one of the most hyped European breweries for a long long time, and with good reason. Visiting their taproom is like beer geek Mecca. Today we get to try their standard Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio from 2020. The great thing about their beers is that they get better with age. This spontaneous fermented beer develops with age. It changes and evolves over time. This gueuze is still young but is drinking great.
Advent 2021 Day 18 is from the craft beer God's of Sweden Omnipollo. A few years ago they got a cease and desist letter over their very sought after Yellow Belly Stout. You might remember the one that came in a paper sleeve with two black dots. The beer was a statement against racism. When they couldn't make that beer anymore, they came back with a new version called Coward, a peanut butter, vanilla, chocolate chip cookie stout. It is still one hell of a beer.
Advent 2021 Day 17 if from Greek brewery Seven Island Brewery. We've been enjoying another up and coming brewery this year. They have been releasing high quality IPAs and stouts. Spellbound keeps their success rate alive. This New England double IPA is double dry hopped with New Zealand Nectaron and Riwaka hops. The result is a dank, hoppy, sweet NEIPA bomb! It left us spellbound and wanting more.
Advent 2021 Day 16 is an extra special treat. It's a lambic from our favorite brewery 3 Fonteinen. Golden Dosjel might be called a defect or it might be called a blessing. Originally intended to be a Golden Blend release, fermentation stopped in the bottle so it doesn't ferment. Golden Blend is a blend of one-, two-, three-, and at least 25% four-year-old lambics and matured on oak barrels before being added to the bottles to further develop. We're having blend 41.
Advent 2021 Day 15 is a joint venture between Dry & Bitter and one of the best beer and whiskey bars in Copenhagen, Dispensary. This dark, rich imperial stout was aged for two years on Stauning rye whiskey barrels. The results are a chocolate, coffee, vanilla sipper with beautifully rounded whiskey notes. Chaos Equilibrium is the first collaboration between these two and we hope there will be more.
Advent 2021 Day 14 is from another brewery we discovered this year, Salikat. They've impressed us with IPAs, fruited beers and more. We are having Helix, a pastry smoothie sour. Filled with blackcurrant, blueberries and blackberries, this beer pours thick and fruity. You want to drink it with a straw. This is one chunky beer. We've had quite a few pastry sours in our off hours to various results. How does this one rank? You'll have to listen to find out.
Advent 2021 Day 13 is from the Mikkeller offshoot Baghaven. Baghaven Brewing and Blending has become one of Europe's best sour beer makers. Nordlund's Field Blend 1 is a wild ale aged in a French Oak Foeder then aged on Danish wine and table grapes. It was brewed in collaboration with Nordlund's Winery in Copenhagen. With lots of brett, oad and vinous characters, this wild ale is a rewarding experience which keeps you reaching for more.
Advent 2021 Day 12 and it's getting dark. Bruery Terreux levels of darkness. Tart of Darkness is their barrel aged sour stout that has been to known to peel the enamel off your teeth. One of the variants in 2018 featured black currants. After being treated with special souring bacterial, the beer is added to bourbon barrels that previously help Black Tuesday. The beer is allowed to take on the rich complex Black Tuesday and bourbon flavors. They threw in a bunch of black currants to create a really fun and funky beer.
Advent 2021 Day 11 brings another Nerdbrewing beer. Hashmap is a smoked imperial stout with lapsang souchong tea. Lapsang souchong is a black tea consisting of Camellia sinensis leaves that are smoke-dried over a pinewood fire. It gives a pleasant smoky flavor to the beer when combined with Nerdbrewing's rich chocolatey, coffee-ish base stout. This is the first release (and maybe the only) Hashmap release. Hopefully we'll see more in Hashmap beers released.
Advent 2021 Day 10 brings us another sour beer from Trillium. We've tried quite a few of their sour beers and they have been great. The Orange Muscat Lineage Rye is no difference. This saison uses a Polish rye called Valley Malt Danko Rye. Blended with orange zest and matured on soaft oak, the wild ale is a light, citrus, funky pleasure that keeps you wanting more.
Advent 2021 Day 9 has us visiting a new brewery from Scottland called Overtone. They have been exporting a lot this last half of this year and really producing some fun, delicious IPAs. Chufft is a blend of two of their other IPAs. OOFT and Chancer were blended together to create a new hybrid. Made with Citra, Incognito, T90 and Mosaic, the resulting is beer is a real tropical hop treat. I expect we'll see more from Overtone on the show in 2022.
Advent 2021 Day 8 has another deep deep cellar dive. This time from Lindeman's. The Oude Kriek Cuvee Rene is a cherry fermented lambic aged on oak barrels for six months. It's then transferred to bottles to spontaneously ferment. This means that it will stay carbonated a bit longer provided that spontaneous fementation happens. This one happens to be 4 years old. Let's see how it holds up.
Advent 2021 Day 7 is from a well represented brewery on this podcast De Moersleutel. They have a membership service called The Guild. It's open to 400 people. Stefan is a member and was very excited to bring their Guild exclusive beer for the calendar. Indulgence Two is an imperial stout aged on apple brandy barrels for one year. This is easy drinking stout filled with notes of chocolate, dried fruit and vanilla.
Advent 2021 Day 6 is from Stockholm Brewing Co. They have been improving over the years and their sour game is getting on point. Noble Rot is saison aged on multi-vintage wet wine barrels. The result is a complex saison with lots of flavor and plenty of promise. Noble Rot refers to a fungus that attacks thin skinned grapes causing them to shrivel like raisins. This gives the grapes a higher sugar concentrate and more intense grape flavor. It also makes for a great beer.
Advent 2021 Day 5 is from Northern Monk. They have done a collaboration with Overtone Brewing and Rivington Brewing. Patrons Project 21.07 is a DDH IPA make with Idaho-7, El Dorado, Cryo and Cashmere hops. This is the final Patrons Project for 2021 and they go out with a bang. Lots of fruit and topical notes with a soft balanced finish. An excellent addition to this years calendar.
Advent 2021 Day 4 is really exciting because we get to finally feature another IPA from American Solera. We reviewed Terpy Citra way back in season 1. We loved it. This Is Cashmere! is exciting because it's a hop variety that we don't know too much about. Cashmere hops haven't been as high profile as Citra, Idaho-7, Mosaic or other trendy varieties. This is Cashmere! features Cashmere, Azacca and Mosaic hops. It's a little grassy, a little bitter and overall yummy.
Advent 2021 Day 3 is quite the mystery. We know what the beer is. It's Traquair House Ale from Traquair House Brewery. The mystery is how old is it. Our best guess is this come from 2008. This Scottish brewery has been making beers since 1965. However, the house they brew from started brewing in 1700s. The founder discovered the original brewery and started using the original 200 year old equipment and recipes. Today they are known for their amazing beers which cellar amazingly well.
Advent 2021 Day 2 is from local favorite Nerdbrewing. They keep cranking out fun stouts. Implements Coffee & Coconut edition is a big stout brewed with oats and aged on cocoa nibs, roasted coconut and cold brewed coffee. It's a great way to continue the calendar and bring lots of flavor to these cold dark days.
Advent 2021 Day 1 kicks of with a strong start from Perennial Artisan. We don't see much from them make it overseas but we were lucky enough to get our hands something from them. Then You Roast the Mallow is an imperial stout brewed with graham crackers in the mash and lactose, brown sugar and marshmallow fluff in the kettle and boiled for hours. Post fermentation, more graham crackers, marshmallow and cocoa nibs were added. YUM!
It's time for Stefan's favorite episode of the year: The Systembolaget julöl beer release. This is episode we review five beers from a wide collection of Swedish breweries. This years pics are Odd Island brewing's Julänna, Beerbliotek Stocking Filler, Brewhuslän Don't Fear the Yule Bock, Kinn Bryggeri Tomasmesse (2019) and Malmö Meadery Merry Christmas, Honey. This really runs the range of what's possible in a julöl. From lagers to bocks to meads, we've got a lot to taste.
It's been a full meal so far. We hope you have room for dessert. Like the previous years, De Moersleutel doesn't hold back with their dessert course. Lizard is a 16% freeze-distilled black barleywine. This beer does not mess around. It's intense. Because we just need one more beer from this awesome brewery, we picked up the latest in the barcode series, 8719992492923 (Green and Black). This continues to be one of the best series that De Moersleutel releases. An imperial stout aged 1 year on cognac, apple brandy and scotch barrels, with natural vanilla and cinnamon sticks added. This is a sipper for sure.
I hope you enjoyed the first two courses. The next two are about to begin. Scissors is our amuse buche course. It's an 8% West coast IPA filled with Cascade, Citra, Centennial, Columbus and Chinook hops (that's five hops, I'm seeing a trend here). This bitter and citrusy IPA is a throwback to the classic West coast type of yore. Spock will be our dinner course. This imperial stout is made with five grains and 5 adjuncts. Can you guess which ones? It's a big meal and we still have one course to go.
We're doing our first series. De Moersleutel is celebrating their 5th anniversary with their annual anniversary release. It's a five course meal with plenty of surprises and really big beers. The next three episodes will cover all five beers plus an extra release. First is the aperitif Rock, a fruited sour. We follow up that course with our starter Paper, a double IPA made with Azacca, Galaxy, Citra and Idaho7 hops. It's a great start to a complex anniversary dinner.
Game of Beers is back for our grand 400th episode! We're having a threesome this time with Martin going up against our returning guests Pontus and Bjorn. We've got three rounds of a single elimination tournament. It's head-to-head mayhem as these titans of Untappd work to figure out which of them is the true champion of Game of Beers. This is one threesome you don't want to miss.
Trying a ten year old beer is nothing compared to this weeks beers. Let's start with an 18 year old beer. Slottskällans Imperial Stout 2003 is a long forgotten beer from the past. Much sought after at the time, today it's a dusty relic of the past that holds up impressively well. Nils Oscar has been around in Sweden for a long time. This 19 year old Barley Wine from 2002 just proves it. This is an impressive barleywine that has really held the test of time. Modern barleywines should be so lucky that can last as long.
This week and next we are going into the way back machine and trying a few beers from way in the past. Pannepot Grand Reserva is a classic beer that ages incredibly well. We are having the 2011 release. Ten years old and still holds up incredibly well. Prairie Artisan is known for their amazing stouts. The teamed up with Evil Twin to release Barrel Aged Bible Belt. This was released twice and we are having the 2018 edition.
We start year 6 with a couple of new beers. Czech Republic is known for their classic style beers. Pilsners abound. We aren't having any of that. This is new world brewing and Zichovec has burst forth from Czech Republic with lots of new beers. Nectar of Happiness 17 is a NEIPA that shows that you can get more than just a standard pilsner. Evil Twin has released so many versions of Aún Más Todo Jesus. We are having the original version. It's a 12% ABV imperial stout with cinnamon, cocoa nibs, chili peppers and coffee beans.
It's our 6th Anniversary. We can't believe it either. Martin and Stefan are in Copenhagen celebrating the release of Cantillon Blåbaer and Zwanze releases at the Amager and Drikbeer location. We take a few minutes away from the mini-festival to reflect on the past year and our beer drinking adventures. We're looking forward to the next year and have some changes in store. Thanks for listening for the past 6 years!
It's time to get fruity with some peaches and mangos. Crooked Stave used to be so difficult to get. These days, you can find a Crooked Stave beer in most webshops. Persica is still a difficult find. This bottle is actually from 2015. It's still full of fresh peaches and brett. From there we open a can of Mango and Habanero Heat Wave Turbine. This is a mango fruit smoothie with a light habanero heat. I don't think you can get fresher mango juice that what you find in this beer.
Martin brought out something old and something new. Mort Subite Oude Kriek Lambic 2014 is a classic sweetened kriek lambic. This has aged out quite well. Neither of us are huge fans of sugary lambics but it's always nice to try something different. Snausarve Söirli Stain is a lambic style wild ale made with local Swedish wild cherries. Wild ales are popping up all over the place. It's exciting the rest of the world embracing this style and bringing their own unique twist on a classic beer style.
Trying two new double IPAs this episode. Maplewood Brewing our of Chicago dropped some beers to the EU market. We're trying Big Pulpy, an 8% DIPA that is made with Citra, Mosaic and El Dorado hops. It's a big beer with big flavors. Then we try Norwegian brewery Marlobobo's Megabear. Marlobobo has been releasing some amazing meads. They created an offshoot brand to handle non-mead releases. Toap Trip is one of their first releases. It's a light IPA with citra, ekuanot CRYO and Mosaic.
Stefan has been travelling again. This time to Brussels, Belgium. He tried a lot of beers on that trip and brought back a couple to review. Belgium is one of the top beer countries in the world but it's not known for the modern beers. While they have some of the oldest breweries in the world, the country is catching up on the new brewery scene. Brasserie du Borinage has released an IPA called Urine. With a name like that, you know we have to try it. Galea Black Heaven Dreams is an Oreo crumble Heaven Hill barrel-aged stout. Yum!
Trillium Brewing is back this episode and we have one of their great sour beers. Fated Farmed: Apricot is an american wild ale that has been barrel fermented for 5-7 months and then refermented on freshly harvested fruit. Duck Pond has been killing it lately. They are emerging as one of Sweden's best brewers. Cherry Pop is a cherry vanilla imperial gose. It's like a sweet cherry surprise.
We love sour beers. This episode we have two sour beers, one from Sweden and one from Italy. Brekeriet is Sweden's premiere sour beer maker. Schätta is a natural fermented beer aged in red wine barrels for 16 months, then dry hopped with Mosaic hops. It's a great experience. Neither of us had heard of Maestri del Sannio from Campania Italy. With only 7 check ins for this beer, it doesn't look like neither have many other people. Perdere la More is a blackberry wild ale that hits a little different.
Still getting lots of great stuff from The Veil released into the European beer scene. I wonder if the US is getting a lot of good stuff from Europe. Broz Broz Night Night is a DDH version of their Citra DIPA Broz Night Out. With a 9% ABV, this is a big beer that is a way to smooth and easy to drink. AF Brew has teamed up with Lervig to release two beers called Year of Fear. We got Year of Fear Kentucky, an Imperial Stout aged on Kentucky Bourbon Barrels. Such a fun beer.
De Moersleutel has started their own membership club. The Guild is a bimonthly membership that features a wide range of their beers. The box contains 12-16 beers and features one exclusive beer per box. They only release 400 boxes at a time. In this box we got Motor Oil Double Chocolate, a Russian Imperial Stout with chocolate from Tanzania and the Philippines. After that we have another from the Barcode series. 8719992492916 (Barcode Black and Red) is an Imperial Stout with chocolate and vanilla aged for 14 months in Bourbon Barrels...yum!
Stefan took a trip to Italy this summer and visited Rome. The brewing scene in Italy is strong and growing stronger. While their IPA game might still need some work, They are making great pilsners, barleywines and sour beers. We start with Rebel's Brewery in Rome released Abbronzatissima, a lemon milkshake IPA. After that we crack open another IPA from CRAK called Discovery Nove. This is the ninth beer in their series stretch themselves as a brewery. Two exciting discoveries.
Even though it's the heat of summer, we don't shy away from dark heavy beers. Wander Beyond has released a silky 15% ABV beer. Vulpes is an easy drinking chocolatey imperial stout that is just what you want right now. Puhaste is no stranger to big bold stouts either. Brewed with Ethiopia Beloya coffee, this rye whiskey barrel aged beer is fun sipping stout for a warm summer night. Feel decadent as you pour this into a snifter and relax.
Stockholm Brewing Co has been releasing some really good sour beers lately. But this ain't that. This is their version of an Italian pilsner called Italopils Extra. What's the "extra"? Why love of course and hops and alcohol. Great for a warm summer day. Omnipollo went from being a gypsy brewer to opening their own brewery in Sweden. We're starting to see the results of that. Der Schwedische Lehrling is a collaboration with Camba from Germany. It's a very pleasing lager that goes down too easy.
We're trying a couple of Swedish beers this week. Wapnö Gårdsbryggeri is the only farm based brewery in Sweden. The brewery is a walking cattle farm for milking. The leftover malts are used to feed the cows that product the milk that is sold in the store. Alna X is a triple IPA at 10% ABV. Intergalactic Tropical Milkshake is a collab between Prophecy Brewing and Giant Brothers Brewing Co. These two Malmö based brewers are teaming up to create a fruity hazy DIPA.
Molecule Brewing is a collective between three brewers: Elm Eleven, NerdBrewing and Chad Brewing. They moved out of their old brewing space and have created their own brewing lab. We tried two of the first releases off the line. Elm Eleven has been producing some great fruit sours and Still on Mars is a fun raspberry, vanilla, passion fruit and peach beer. Smooth, fruity and perfect for warm summer days. Nerdbrewing has released Stacktrace, a sweet imperial milk stout with maple syrup and tonka beans. Nerdbrewing creates another great stout with so many levels.
Another episode another two new breweries we've never tried before. S43 is from Coxhoe, England. Threefold is a 10% ABV triple IPA with Nelson Sauvin, Riwaka, Waiti, Motueka, Moutere and Ekuanot hops. It's full throttle New Zealand Hops! Browar Monsters is from Poland. Willy Coconut is a 9% ABV imperial double milk stout made with coconut. It's sweet and smooth, just the way you like it. This was a delicious episode.
If you haven't tried mead outside of a Renaissance Fair, then you are missing out. Mead has become amazing with so many world class meaderies popping up all over the world. Locally we have Malmö Meadery. You can find their meads at Malmö Brewing and Taproom as well as Systembolaget. We got to try two versions of their Black Current Session Mead. The first is version one bottled and the second is the commercially available from Systembolaget. It's a very different experience. Both are good but for very different reasons.
In light of the recent events in the brewing industry involving several well known breweries and brewers harassing and belittling women, we wanted to put a spotlight on what female brewers are doing in Sweden. We picked two beers that sprung from the recent movements to get more women into brewing. First up is from Fermentarna. Pink Boots Revolution uses the Pink Boots hop blend to create a fun, refreshing IPA. Stigbergets teamed up with Global Ladies of Wort to produce GLOW, a farmhouse IPA. Global Ladies of Wort is a group dedicated to female brewers around the world.
We get to do our first book review! Stigbergets has released a cooking and brewing book! Boken om Öl och andra goda grejer is from Stigbertgets' founder and owner Nils Hultkrantz and production manager Simon Karlsson. They teamed up with chef, baker and sommelier Markus Junkala to produce a book filled with brewing tips, explanation, recipes and general brewing know how along with a collection of recipes to go with all tasty beers you'll want to start brewing. This is a really fun book a great for someone just wanting to learn how to homebrew as well as seasoned professional.
Equilibrium and District 96 have teamed up to create some raw sexual tension. Sexual Fluctuation Batch 6 is here to help you get you discover yourself and maybe help you get your freak on. It's a DIPA with an 8% ABV made with Citra and Galaxy hops. Surprisingly we've never covered a Hoppin Frog Brewery beer. They are regularly released in Northern Europe so we're not sure why it's taken almost 5 years. Pentuple is a 15.1% ABV Belgian Tripel. This is Belgian Tripel on steroids.
Modist Brewing is out of Minneapolis, MN. They have released a rather interesting IPA, one that we've never tried before. This double dry-hopped IPA has local honey, milk sugar and is hopped with Strata, Simcoe, cryo Simcoe and cryo Sabro. It's a lot to take in. Siren is starting to return to the international market after a slight absence. They are really jumping out with some big beers. Waltzer is a 13.5% imperial double milk stout with rum barrel aged coffee beans. It's a fun tasty treat.
This episode we're traveling down to Brazil and trying a new brewery called Salvador Brewing Co. River Double NE IPA is a citrusy IPA which gives us hope for trying more beers from a region better known for their wines. We are lucky to get to sample South American beers quite often thanks to the current webshop situation. Adroit Theory has been releasing a lot of beers in the webshops. They are best known for their hazy IPAs and this is from their TIPA line called Evangelion. Evangelion XVI: Armisael (Ghost 927) is the 16th release in the series featuring Citra and Moutere hops. At 10% ABV it's a big boozy beer that is guaranteed to rock your world.
We are joined by Bjorn this time for two fun and crazy beers. First we have Barrier Brewing Kickin' Knowledge: Pumpkin. This is beer 9 in the series and it's one of the weirdest beers we've ever tired. This milkshake IPA is brewed with vanilla, coconut, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander and all spice. Guess how many flavors we could taste. Italian brewers Brewfist used to be found everywhere. These days they are a bit harder to find. We tried the SWX: Spaghetti Western Double 10th Anniversary, a double imperial coffee chocolate stout with cocoa nibs.
After last weeks intense episode, we thought we should take it down a little and relax. Pastore out of Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire England is a new brewery to us. They specialize in sour beers: wild ales, sour ipas, berliner weisse, fruited sours. They released in the webshops recently and we got our hands on a few cans. We tried Blood Orange Waterbeach Weisse, a low ABV berliner weisse and Frutti di Bosco Acido, a bold imperial weisse make with Kviek and Lactobacillus and conditioned on raspberry, blackberry and blackcurrant. We hope they have more beers exported soon.
We haven't been able to play Game of Beers for quite some time. Due to the pandemic, we thought it best not to. Now the time has come for the ultimate showdown. Stefan vs. Martin!!! It's the showdown you've been waiting for. One is a tasting idiot and one is a ticking expert. Who will be the better taster? Bjorn from Bjornguiden has stepped in as the host of the games and lends his expert talents in leading us through the game. He picked some really tough beers to taste blind. The bastard!
Brewski and Stigbergets have been in-demand Swedish breweries for quite some time. Both breweries have several releases a month here in Sweden. We always look forward to trying beers from these maverick breweries. Brewski Pineapple Smooth Swirl is an IPA with lots of hops and sweet pineapple. It's another in their fruited IPA series. Stigbergets has launched a line of traditional German style beers called Ringobrau. First off the line is a Ringobrau Rauchbier. It's a lightly smoked beer and a perfect gateway into the style.
Stefan and Martin both blindly reached into their fridges and brought something to the show to review. Stefan knows how much Martin loves a new brewery check-in and was very excited to bring a new beer from Abomination called Wandering Into the Fog - Nelson Sauvin. Martin knows how much Stefan loves Flemmish Red Ales and was very excited to bring Cascade Brewing's version of a Flemmish Red Ale called Sang Rouge. Love abounds.
We're doubling up on IPAs, but not doubling up on double IPAs. This isn't a double double episode. That's another one. What we do have are two IPAs from top brewers. Pentrich Brewing Co has jumped into the EU market with a series of releases. Blizzard in the Pines is made with Mosaic, Simcoe and Idaho Gem hops. Toppling Goliath returns to the EU market with Nugmo a tropical citrus bomb made with Mosaic, Sabro Simco and Amarillo hops.
The webshops are a hopping these days. You never know what will turn up week to week. A few weeks go Trillium dumped a lot of sour beers on the EU market. We weren't even aware Trillium has a sour beer scene. Imagine our surprise when we found around 15-20 sour Trillium beers in shops. Brimming Bin is an American wild ale aged on Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc grapes. Double Apricot Stonington is a saison aged on French oak Chardonnay casks and then fermented with apricots. Both are tart, delicious and loaded with stone fruit goodness.
The Bruery had a threesome with Moksa and Mikerphone. The results is a coconut, vanilla bean, milk sugar and oat milk imperial stout called Three's Cocompany. Kinky. New to the EU market is a brewery out of Minneapolis, MN called Fair State Brewing Cooperative. They have released a bourbon barrel-aged pastry stout with vanilla called Heckin' Chonkers. It's a sweet boozy pastry stout and gives us great hope we'll get more from this brewery.
We went dark this episode. Hometown favorites Remmarlöv are back with a black IPA called Black Light. Known for their perfect versions of traditional beer styles, the brewery has been branching out to other styles of late like sours and non-traditional styles. For their first black IPA, they are on the right track. Friends Company has been exciting the Swedish beer market with their Cupcake series. The Chocolate Vanilla Cupcake Imperial Stout keeps the hype going.
Verdant started a couple of years ago and they worked really hard to create a flagship beer. That one beer that everyone is frantic for. That beer is Putty. In the past it was a special release that only came to select webshops. This year, it's in almost every webshop and luckily for Sweden, in Systembolaget. In addition to the Putty release, Systembolaget also got another highly rated Verdant beer called 40 Watt Moon. Both are NEIPA's but they are very different beers.
Oh Joy! We get try two new breweries this week. Tartaruga Fine Brewing is from Belgium. Usually when we review a Beligan beer it's a lambic or a gueuze. This week we have a Belgian IPA. Sweet Alma hits like a Belgian IPA. If you've never had one before, it hits a little different from any other IPA style. 71 Brewing Co is out of Scotland Blueberry Fields is a kettle sour using Scottish Blueberries. It's a light refreshing beer that would be perfectly fine for a grill out in the park.
We tried and loved 45 Days of Pilsner a while back. We were excited to try To Ol's 45 Days of Hell(es). This is one damn tasty beer. If you're not a fan of pilsners, largers, helles, etc., these beers might very well change your mind. Light, sweet, bready, and easy to drink. We follow that up with Beerbliotek's The Trash-Filled Streets Made Me Wish We Were Headed Home is a brown ale. This is their 7th brown ale and their 293rd recipe. It's a hoppy brown ale that tastes more like a black IPA than a brown ale.
We are barrel aging this episode but in very different ways. Brewdog's sour beer brand, Overworks, has released Jackalope King. This Scottish sour ale has blueberries and gorse flowers aged in red wine barrels. What's a gorse flower? Listen and find out. Pühaste released a series of beers under the Silver Series 2020 logo. This collab with AF Brew and Zagovor Brewery is called Trinity in Black Bourbon BA. It's a big intense boozy beer with a whole lot going on.
We're bringing out the heavy hitters again, a barleywine and an imperial stout. This is How is a brewery from the small town of Piteå in northern Sweden. They have released an English barleywine aged on Buffalo Trace and Heaven Hill bourbon barrels. It's a sweet boozy beer that will keep warm on cold winter nights. Alpha Delta and North Brewing collaborated on Tartarus, an imperial stout aged on oak spirals with a touch of vanilla. You have both of these and you'll stay warm and toasty in these cold, dark nights.
Stefan is pretty open to all kinds of beer. There are a few adjuncts he's not crazy about, guava, banana and hazelnut. This episode we have two beers with fun adjuncts. Brew York Viva La Guava-lution promises to be a revolution of guava. More guava than your simple minds and palates can handle. Next is from the Amundsen Virtual Reality series, Sticky Maple and Banana French Toast. This collab is with Finback. It's 12% pastry stout that promises maple, banana and cinnamon. We shall see.
Equilibrium and The Veil on one episode? It used to be quite difficult to get beers from either of these companies in Europe. These days they seem to show up almost weekly. Both of these came from online shops. Equilibrium Lupo Lab is their version of Fluctuation with an experimental product called LUPOMAX, a concentrated Citra lupulin product. The Veil The Motive is a sour IPA that has pineapple, mango, peach and vanilla added. It pours like a fruit smoothie. It's thick.
Nerdbrewing has been putting quite a few beers recently. Known for their rich flavorful imperial stouts, they don't disppoint with two of their latest releases. First we have one of the two new Override stouts, Override Imperial Chocolate Milkshake Stout - Strawberry Edition is a blend of strawberry puree with cocoa nibs and vanilla. Next is Typecast Imperial Licorice, Lemon & Vanilla Stout. The combination might sound odd but the taste combines to create a vanilla cola flavor. Yum!
Our first episode of the new year and we've got something a little different from two very well respected breweries. We love Crooked Stave for their sours. That's pretty much all we've gotten in this part of the world. When we got our hands on an IPA from Crooked Stave, well of of course we had to have it on the show. Next is a beer from Stigbergets. They have been putting out amazing IPAs and stouts for the past few years. Lately they've been dipping their toes into other styles. Bat Cat is a black IPA, so not too far outside their wheelhouse but definitely something different.
It's the last episode of the year on the last day of the year and it couldn't come sooner. We are ending the year on a high note with not the usual two beers, but three boozy fun To Ol beers. Martin and Stefan look back on the year that and look forward to starting 2021 with new beers and fun times. We hope you enjoyed the show this year and enjoy our last episode of 2020 as we review Yule Malt, Yule Maelk Bourbon and Yule Maelk Rum BA.
It's finally here. Day 24 of our 2020 Advent calendar. We end it with a great beer The Ale Apothecary The Beer Formally Know As La Tache. It's an American Wild Ale made with Cascade hops and aged in oak barrels. It's a great way to end the calendar and start the Christmas festivities. We hope you've enjoyed our calendar this year as much as we enjoyed making it. Have a God Jul and Merry Christmas.
It's almost over. The calendar is coming to and end but not before another exciting beer from Deya called Your Bad Luck Has Saved You. This is a collaboration with Crosby Hops and Loughran Brewing Stores. It's a west coast IPA made with Chinook, Idaho 7 and El Dorado hops. We learned a lot about ourselves this episode. Mainly we don't care for Idaho 7 hops.
Another new brewery from the UK? Yes please. Rivington Brewing is out of Lancashire, England and they are new to us. They have recently shown up in some web shops and we jumped on a chance to try them. Evil Dead II is a collaboration with Chain House Brewing. This DIPA is made with Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin and Idaho 7.
When former President Donald Trump used the word "covfefe", no one knew what he meant. We still don't know. It was just another in a long line of random nonsense the carrot in chief spouted. Danish brewers People Like Us thought about it and imagined what would covfefe taste like. Turns out it's a coffee stout. Then they took that stout and aged it in Mikkeller whiskey barrels and Phantom Spirits rum barrels and calling it, Covfefe Barrel Aged.
The White Hag Irish Brewing Company has been doing their research. They have recreated a ancient beer style called gruit. It uses Irish heather tops instead of hops and using wild yeasts for fermentation. They then aged it on French and Hungarian wine barrels for extra tartness. The result is Beann Gulban Irish Heather Sour Ale. And it's our advent beer for day 20.
Advent 2020 Day 19 brings us lots of holiday joy with De Moersleutel Wanna Taste My Gingerbread Man? As we head into the final days of the calendar having an imperial stout with ginger, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg gives us the warm fuzzy feelings of yuletide cheer. Maybe we should have had pepparkaka and blue cheese to go with it to complete the experience. Oh well, next year.
You might remember earlier this year we reviewed the Tubervol 2018 to somewhat positive reviews. After all this is an unholy marriage of lambic with Belgian blonde ale. How does the sweetness of the Belgian blonde mesh with the sour fruitiness of the lambic? Just like the 2018, Tuverbol 2019 enjoyment will vary depending on the drinker. It's trip and we're glad we tried it, but don't expect Tubervol 2020 review anytime soon.
In the middle of the month and we are feeling the dark winter nights. Fortunately we have the Advent 2020 calendar and it's Day 17. That means we have a new beer to brighten our spirits with Brouwerij de Molen Doom & Gloom. This is a nice imperial stout with a slight barrel aging on it. Coming in at 10.6% ABV, it's just what we need to warm our cold, cold hearts.
We haven't heard of Bruery Terreux's The Orchard Project. There are three beers from this line and we get to try Nectarines. Bruery Terreux has been known to make incredibly sour beers. This one is just on the boarder. This sour wit ale is brewed with spices and aged in oak barrels with raspberries and nectarines. It's a pucker fest but in a good way. We're joined by Bjornguiden again so you know you want to pucker up.
We are taking a leap on Advent Day 15 with Wild Leap's Alpha Abstraction Vol 13. We've tried previous versions of this beer on the show and have quite enjoyed it. Also, we are suckers for a series and we'll keep trying them as long as they are good. Version 13 is an 8% ABV with Sabro hops. Sabro isn't one of our favorite hops and this one lacks the punch of previous versions. We're looking forward to trying future releases.
Advent 2020 Day 14 brings us The Bruery American Anthem. It's an imperial brown ale aged on bourbon barrels with peach, apricot, cinnamon and vanilla beans. It's a boozy peach pie in a glass. This 14.2% ABV beer will keep you warm on this long cold winter nights. It will make you long for warmer days and better times. But when you're sharing beers with friends, does it get better? Bjorn from Bjornguiden joins us.
We've always enjoyed To Ol. One of the bright notes of this year has been the amazing beers coming out of To Ol City. They have really stepped up their game. Day 13 give us one of their latest offerings Artistic Bouncing, a double IPA with Galaxy and Ella hops. This is a great beer and celebrates what they've been doing recently. At 8% ABV it doesn't pack much of a punch but a smooth, delicious experience. It wouldn't be an Advent Calendar without To Ol.
Advent 2020 Day 12 is only our second hard seltzer on the show. Hard seltzers get mixed reviews. The Evil Water line from Evil Twin NYC has generally been well received. Tamarind Lime is what you would call a challenging flavor combination. It's something you'll either enjoy or you'll hate. There is no middle ground here. Meant to be light and effervescent, the beer comes in at 7.5% ABV so it's more likely to just get you white girl wasted.
Advent 2020 Day 11 is a visit from the monk, the Northern Monk. This Northern UK brewery rarely disappoints and this one doesn't. OFS is part of an experimental beer series. Each number is a different beer. OFS012 is an American IPA using Incognito hops. These beers we only available at the brewery before COVID hit and now you can find them online at different webshops. OFS stands for Old Flax Store, which is where you can buy cans at the brewery on Saturdays.
Advent 2020 Day 10 is another treat from the Kihoskh monthly subscription box. Adroit Theory has been making waves in the EU over the past year. Their Evangelion line of triple IPAs has been a welcome coping mechanism this year. Zeruel is the 14th iteration of this beer and it's awesome. If you haven't tried any beers from Adroit Theory, make sure you correct that mistake. BTW, Adroit means clever or skillful and this brewery definitely is.
Advent 2020 Day 9 gives us a Swedish beer. Stockholm Brewing Co has been featured on the show a few times over the year thanks to Martin. He bring the King of Grapes to the 2020 Advent calendar. This is a blend of 1-year old Foeder sour ale blended with 20% fermented Grenache juice. It's a kingly beer for kingly times. You won't be royalty after drinking it but you'll feel like one.
O'Clock Brewing has released about 20 variants for Baden Power. Martin brought us the Baden Power Baltic Porter Bourbon edition. Another French release and a welcome edition to the calendar. This is a new brewery for both of us. That means double the excitement and anticipation. We feel like we've found a hidden treasure. This version of Baden Power is a bourbon barrel aged baltic porter aged on Heaven Hill barrels for 8 months.
We decided to take a break on Day 7, an Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break! This classic beer is a gift from Stefan. Neither of the guys had had an Imperial Biscotti Break in a few years, so it was a welcome break. It's everything we remembered it being. It's nice to know that in a world of pastry stouts there are still some classics that remain as excellent as ever.
Advent 2020 Day 6 is a Stefan beer. And what a surprise it is. Evil Twin NYC What Even Is Pink Pineapple Anyway is a new one from the mega brewery. They are cranking out crazy impressive beers this year. They have been on the highlights of the beer year. We've had many Evil Twin NYC beers featured on the show and we expect to see many more in 2021. But after having this beer you'll still be asking yourself "What Even Is Pink Pineapple Anyway?"
Advent 2020 keeps rolling along and with day 5 we get to try another beer that Stefan brought. Kihoskh's monthly beer subscription has been excellent and he got Great Notion Passion Fruit Mochi in a recent box. There have been a slew of Great Notion beers available in Europe over the past few months so to get one in a monthly subscription box makes it extra fun. Enjoy the fruity goodness.
Day 4 brings us De Moersleutel from Martin. Octane Overlord BA Invergordon and DRU is another fun release in the Octane Overlord series. This 11% ABV beer is boozy, sweet and amazing. Aged in Invergordon scotch whiskey barrels is has a sweet, roasty, chocolate notes. We also have no idea what a DRU is.
Advent Day 3 gives us a variation on a classic. Stefan brought a bourbon barrel aged Arrogant Bastard from Stone Brewing. An American Strong Ale, Arrogant Bastard is a sweet, hoppy, slightly boozy 8.1% treat. We've had many versions of Arrogant Bastard in the past and this one was new for both Stefan and Martin. It is a double treat!
