Patrick and Tom are finally back, and with a special episode to kick things back off! We're joined by our good friend Sean Gray to talk Gundam Thunderbolt. Sean is a Japanese jazz enthusiast, record collector, and disability advocate – and while he’s also an old school anime fan, Thunderbolt is actually his first time watching any Gundam.
This conversation covers a lot of interesting ground: Thunderbolt’s origins and themes, free jazz, the work of composer Naruyoshi Kikuchi, Sean’s experiences with disability in Japan, and why Thunderbolt works for newcomers to Gundam. We hope you enjoy the show!

We have a special episode this week as Patrick and Tom had the opportunity to interview mechanical designer Kanetake Ebikawa at Otakon 2018! Ebikawa is most famous for designing the Exia from Gundam 00, a number of robots from Gundam Build Fighters, and basically everything from Full Metal Panic.

We had a pretty fun conversation with a run down of the movie and what we loved about it and it's flaws. We also discussed where it stands as part of Mazinger lore and how some of the classic characters have been handled in recent versions. It was a great time and I hope you enjoy it!

Patrick is joined by returning guests Carl from Ogiue Maniax and Gundam detective Tom Aznable to discuss this classic Yoshiyuki Tomino directed Sunrise tv series from 1977. This is an extremely interesting series to discuss because it was produced before Mobile Suit Gundam and you can see a number of concepts that would appear in Gundam start to be developed. It was a facinating conversation about what is a very compelling show. It's only 23 episodes but unfortunately has not been licensed in the US, hopefully someday it will.
