Most of us in the US will celebrate Thanksgiving this year. We will eat turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, candied yams, collard greens, green bean casserole, apple pie, pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, and many other dishes. We will watch football while drinking beer and enjoy great conversations. And then we fall asleep with a full belly safe and sound hopefully.

I recently met someone that told me they needed to make some extra money. I asked, “how much?” They responded, “just enough so I can be comfortable”. I paused for a moment, pulled out my smart phone, called my financial advisor, and asked, “do you have any investment advice that can make me comfortable?” He started laughing hysterically and then said…NO!

Not long ago, my dear friend Nancy called me and was in full panic mode. She shared with me that she had planned on retiring but was recently informed that her 401K took a 35% loss due to mismanagement. She said to make matters worse, her new boss is a task master and micro-manager. Lastly, she said she has not had a vacation in over 5 years. Ouch!

On September 23, 2023 we officially entered fall. Although fall is global, it’s affects are different depending on your location. One of the greatest boxers of all time is Marvelous Marvin Hagler. He only fought as a middleweight. His amateur record is 55-1. His professional record is 62-3-2. He reigned as the undisputed middleweight champion from 1980-1987. He was twice named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America, as well as Fighter of the Decade (1980s) by Boxing Illustrated magazine.

In high school, there was this student named George. George was a freshman and stood 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 250 pounds. The football and basketball coaches wanted George on their team. George was super excited and told his parents. However, George’s parents told him and the coaches that his priority are his grades and nothing else.

This is going to sound absurd. My brother told me that he works with this guy named Dan. Dan confided in my brother that he wants to get promoted but thinks he is not qualified. Each time the promotion comes up, someone else gets it. My brother told Dan to ask the supervisor why he didn’t get the promotion.

To my brother’s surprise…Dan asked the supervisor why he didn’t get promoted. The supervisor informed Dan that he only promotes people who are leaders and not followers. Dan said…ok and returned to his desk.

When I was growing up marijuana was illegal. Although it was illegal, people still bought, sold, and smoked it. As of 2021, 18 states legalized it recreational use and another 13 have decriminalized it’s use. But does marijuana really get you high?

There were two baby goats in a field. They noticed all the adult goats doing the same thing. Each morning the adult goats would get up, eat, drink, and play. This went on until it was time for the adult goats to be slaughtered. Sounds horrible…right?

You know…the people that help you during checkout when you shop. By 2021, notwithstanding COVID19, the number has been reduced by 30 percent. So, what happened?

I am quite sure you can relate. My daughter was shopping for a new vehicle and wanted a Chevy Camaro. She found the color and model. Ok…time to go shopping. When I was a kid, I always wanted named brand sneakers. All the kids in my neighborhood wanted only one sneaker, Converse aka Chuck Taylors. We sported our Chuck Taylors in different colors and different color laces. I loved the white Chuck Taylors with fat red laces. Getting those white Chuck Taylors dirty was a big no no.

Not long I asked several people this question, “How many people in your life do you trust? Not one person responded with more than 7 people. My dad told me something when I was a kid. He said, son…how can two people walk together unless they agree? Now, as a kid I did not fully understand the question. However, as an adult I do now. So where were you when the world came to a screeching halt? I spent the morning in worship and having birthday breakfast with my beautiful daughters.
