The holidays get a bad rep for being the reason people gain weight in the last quarter of the year. Truth is, those 2 meals won't make a dent. What does make a dent are the 100-something meals between Thanksgiving & the end of the year that people throw away because "what the hell, I already fucked up, I'll start over in January." Stop doing that.

Last week, I asked some questions about how the holidays feel for you- and one of the most common things I saw from your responses was that you put yourself and your needs on the back burner, and you’re kind of just in survival mode for 2 whole months.
What if it didn’t have to be like that? What if I challenged you (and held you accountable) to prioritize yourself- even at the bare minimum- so that you could actually balance enjoying the holidays AND feeling good in your body?
This holiday season is going to be pretty crazy for us- we’re having our wedding in between thanksgiving and Christmas, and family will be together. Thanksgiving is my all-time favorite holiday, and in order to fully enjoy that day, I know that I have to prioritize my health and fitness needs around that day so that when I get there, I can actually be present without stress.
The Healthy Holidays Challenge was designed to hold myself accountable to the habits that allow me to feel good, bounce back, and not dread any social interactions because I’ll be prioritizing feeling good about my choices and actions rather than feeling guilty or like I have to put someone else first.
Register HERE for the Healthy Holidays Challenge to start (and finish) the holiday season strong, joyful, and present!

In this episode, I sit down with my friend Alysha Evans, NTP, and we dive into how we can start to listen to our bodies to understand what they need, and how we can rewrite the story that we have to live with the health issues we're experiencing (because we don't!).

So you want to change your body composition, huh?
If you’re unsure, let’s look at it this way:
Do you have less than 10 pounds you’d like to lose?
Do you want to look leaner?
Do you want to swap the body fat you have for muscle definition?
Then yes, you want to change your body composition.
I love the human body for this reason. You can weigh relatively the same amount at two points in your lie, and your body composition can look completely different.
That’s because body weight is only part of the equation- muscle mass and fat mass are another part, and how your body functions is another part
So when we take all of these pieces into account, we can look at what habits are required to be successful in changing body composition (rather than focusing on losing weight, because that might not actually be what you want!)
It boils down to 5 habits that are required for body recomposition (creating that leaner look while still promoting performance), and I want to share them with YOU!
If you are looking for more support to change your body composition, nourish your body, and develop these habits (& more), check out my website for more information on coaching:

From the agricultural revolution, to industrial, to the chemical revolution and beyond, humans have been obsessed with making things more convenient and efficient, but at the sacrifice of tradition.
Buying meat from grocery stores is one of those conveniences that is actually causing more harm than good. Yes, more people have access, but the meat they have access to isn't helping them or anyone else. In this episode, I dive into how we can actually support the people raising the animals we eat at our meat, and how that ultimately allows us to save more money in the long run.
Here are some of the resources I mentioned in this weeks episode:

It's setting boundaries, asking yourself the hard questions about your life, and getting uncomfortable in the short-term to fulfill your wildest dreams in the long-term.

Fitness can be a powerful tool to helping YOU get healthier.
It can also be a dangerous mode of self-deprecation.
For me, it started with a love and passion for feeling strong, and it quickly turned into a fear of not burning enough calories.

We all have heard the term "Mindful Eating" but very few of us have successfully done it, let alone mastered it. The thing is, eating mindfully is a practice like all others. You never really master it, but each time you practice, you'll feel better after.

I don't know if it'll ever not happen, but I do know that we can choose to stay in a state of overwhelm... or we can choose to leave it behind.
In this episode, I dive into what I do to take myself out of overwhelm, and what I choose to focus on instead. ICYMI, we just bought a farm (and home) in Central Texas, and we are in the process of securing animals and furniture ... at the same time. There's a lot going on (to say the least). Waking up in the middle of the night to pee is super common, but it's not normal. In a healthy body system, your body actually down regulates some muscle function in order to promote better sleep and muscle recovery. But if you're not in a parasympathetic state (rest & digest), then your body may not be down regulating the functions it needs to in order to promote full recovery. Cue recurring dreams, sleep walking, snoring, and a few other sleep disorders.
Listen to this episode if you want to:
Get better sleep
Optimize the sleep you're getting
Wake up feeling energized and refreshed

Jill and I talked about how you navigate that transition, and what you can do to find your true sense of self again in the midst of it all.

We made it through 31 days waking up at 4 am, and we made big gains in our projects, fitness, and personal development.Â
If we're not growing, we're dying.Â
It's not comfortable. It's not easy.Â
But it's worth it.Â
Our next challenge is taking all comfort out of our favorite comfort ritual: our cup of coffee.Â
Listen on to learn more.Â
Technology has made life cushy. We have access to anything and everything we could ever need right at our fingertips.
Do you think you could step away from it all- like really disconnect- and still make it through a day or two?
Bethany did. She headed out on her own for a solo backpacking trip to intentionally put herself in an uncomfortable position.
You can surprise yourself when you step outside of your comfort zone- that confidence can lead you to do some pretty amazing things.

Big things seem to always be happening at WCA HQ, but this episode brings the biggest news of all- Gabe and Arielle are officially engaged!
In the spirit of challenging each other in everything we do, we thought it would be "fun" to challenge each other in some aspect of Personal Development each month of 2020. We're kicking it off with "Jocko January" with the intention of being more productive and starting each day with a win- that means waking up at 4am. Every day. Even weekends.
We'll be sending out an email newsletter every month with info on our next month's challenge, so make sure to subscribe to our email list to stay up to date!

The cat is out of the bag! In this episode, we dive into our decision to "go tiny" and minimize all our belongings to fit into a 25ft Airstream.Â
Our culture has groomed us to want more, spend more, and accumulate more. But what happens when you make more money and buy more things? Instead of pursuing the next best thing, we are choosing to only keep the most important things, and give away or get rid of the rest.

Hunting used to be a huge part of the culture of human beings. With time and revolution, we've gotten away from the most respectful way to eat meat.
In this episode, we sat down to chat with Shy Von Franklinstein, a Nutrition Coach and avid hunter. Shy brings us through her most recent hunting trip, what she learned, and how she grew from the experience.
We also dive into what goes into a hunt- the planning, research, and physical preparation that it takes to head into the wilderness to hopefully bring home an animal to feed your family for the year.

We've all heard the saying, "You are what you eat," but this goes deeper than just the things you put in your mouth. You are what you put in- AND ON- your body. The skin is the human body's largest organ, and it is the one exposed to the most toxins and harsh chemicals daily.Â
We sat down this week with repeat guest, Wes Piatt, and NEW guest, Meg Piatt (Wes's better half) to chat about why we really need to be paying attention to the things we put on our body, and what we can do to make the changes towards healthier and more sustainable living.Â

Teddy has been taking chances since he moved across the ocean- away from his family, friends, and home- to pursue his passions. This time, he's going back across the ocean (a different direction) for a new adventure, with the same goal in mind: learn something new.
We connected with Teddy while he was working for iN3 Nutrition, and he has since moved on and out of the US to find new adventure, life lessons, and connection. In this episode, we caught Teddy right before he moved out of his comfort zone in Arizona to his new home somewhere in Australia (we asked- he's prepared for all the crazy wildlife).

As athletes, we want to perform at our best. What we sometimes won't admit to, though, is that we don't want to compromise how we look to get there. The truth is, we can have it all (performance, aesthetics, and longevity), but we can't have it all at the same time.
In this episode, we sat down to talk about what it takes to fuel your performance, and the mental shift that happens with it.

Dr. Christine Desanno is not your average depiction of a doctor.
That's due in large part to the fact that she is also a competitive Olympic Weightlifter and CrossFitter.
In this episode, we sat down with Christine to talk about the current state of healthcare, what she sees as challenges we can address in our gyms, and what she's doing to encourage her colleagues to adopt some healthier habits.
We also addressed the big elephant (gorilla?) in the room- Christine is a woman in a predominantly male-centered profession. There are always challenges when it comes to being unique in your field, but there are also so many opportunities to start a conversation.

Have you ever wanted to win so badly that you'd consider doing anything to get there?
Have you ever cut corners to achieve a goal faster?

Other people's opinions of you are none of your business.Â
How many time's have you made a choice based on how you think it will be perceived by others instead of your own gut feeling? We do it all the time. The fear of judgment is something that impacts our decision making all the time.Â
In this episode we discuss how powerful it has been for us to stop caring what other people think, and instead constantly do what feels right. At the WCA, we are passionate about a lot of things and recently we've gone ALL IN on putting out content that is in line with what we believe in. The only way we have been able to do that is by constantly reminding ourselves that other people's opinions of the WCA and the content we put out is none of our business.Â
Navigating the nutrition space can be confusing.
Buzz Words like "Gluten-free," "Fat-free," and "Organic" are stamped on almost everything.
In this episode, we sat down to clear the waters in hopes of making it a little easier for all of you.

It's been 6 weeks since we swapped our animal proteins for a plant-based diet, and the time has come for us to start reintroducing meat back in. In this episode we look back on the past 6 weeks, how we felt and what we've learned. We cover everything from protein intake related to hormone health, to our newfound appreciation for a large variety of vegetables. As athletes, we are in tune with how our bodies feel on a daily basis, and the past 6 weeks allowed us to see in real time how our bodies responded to a diet higher in micronutrients, but ultimately lower in protein.
Thank you to everyone that we have connected with over the past 6 weeks for sharing recipes, cookbooks, and other resources with us. Because of you, we have learned so much and have had great conversation around health and nutrition.

It has now been four weeks since we started a strict plant based diet in order to explore and learn how different foods impact our bodies. It has been an eye opening and surprisingly fun experience so far.
In this episode, we explore the numerous takeaways from our experience with a plant based diet so far. We touch on everything from our thoughts on "Vegan" as an identifier, to misconceptions we have discovered though our own research, to some pretty actionable advice for anyone looking to make improvements on their diet.
We both agree that food is so incredibly powerful at impacting our quality of life and in this episode, we make a passionate case for why we believe that and even agree that it is lazy and irresponsible to dismiss or downplay the role dietary habits plays in paving the way for our future wellbeing.
This is a passionate episode and I hope you all enjoy. Please share your feedback with us and leave us a rating and a review if you have not already.

This week we sit down to fill you in on why we are going Vegan for 6 weeks. We talk a lot about "Elimination Diets," and why you should try eliminating certain foods like gluten, dairy, and legumes from your diet periodically to test how your body reacts when you reintroduce them. The ultimate test of the elimination diet is eliminating all animal products, including eggs and meat.
We will be updating you throughout the 6 weeks with videos and photos of recipes we are trying, and how we feel throughout the 6 weeks.
This isn't exactly meant to be a permanent elimination of animal products, but we hope to learn through this experiment what the actual effect meat is having on our bodies when we are putting it to the test in training.

Everyone loosens the reins a bit on weekends. It is a time many of us are accustomed to sit back, relax, and recharge.
What if I told you that the weekend is also the easiest time to make up ground on your peers and shorten the delta between where you are and where you aspire to be.
Join me on my journey to move away from the conventional weekend. Set an alarm, start a side passion project, catch up on your to do list, stay disciplined with your diet and sleep habits.
There are 60 hours between the conventional end of the week on Friday and the start of the week on Monday. 60 hours of opportunity. That almost 40% of your week.
It is easy to be productive on a Monday. Friday night is when the magic happens. Do you have big goals and aspirations? The weekend is when you act like it.
