He shares:
How to adapt your design language beyond technical jargon to communicate design concepts clearly to non-architects
Ways to build client trust through storytelling
What makes great architectural communicators stand out - It's not just brilliant design but being adaptable

Welcome to the Built Environment Marketing Show hosted by me, marketer Ayo Abbas from Abbas Marketing. In this episode, I share some of my experiences of being involved in industry awards from three perspectives, as a judge, as an organiser and as an entrant.
This year alone, I've judged three major awards programmes The RIBA Awards West London region, The Brunel University Entrepreneurship Awards, and the global Architizer A+ Awards. On top of this last year I assessed over 100 award entries, so I feel I've got lots to say on this and how to create submissions that make shortlists and even go onto win.

This episode is repurposed from my guest appearance on Michelle Garrett's PR Explored show live on LinkedIn. The lively discussion talks about marketing and PR strategies for so-called "boring" industries. We talk about how to find compelling stories in B2B sectors like construction, engineering, and manufacturing, and why these industries offer a sea of potential riches for marketers willing to dig that bit deeper.

Is your built environment firm making the most out of LinkedIn?
It's the social platform for business and has so many hidden features that you may not know exist.
The latest episode of The Built Environment Marketing show hosted by me Ayo Abbas is taken from a LinkedIn Live event that I did last week with property writer Stacey Meadwell.
LinkedIn has a brilliant range of content creation tools, but not all of them are immediately obvious or are underused as they donât really shout about the fact that they exist.
Many of these features and tools can increase your range of content, boost engagement and propel your reach. They can help you stand out from the crowd and build stronger connections.
We did a deep dive into: Creator mode, LinkedIn Events, LinkedIn Audio and LinkedIn video and tons more.

2023 was the year where AI dominated the news with the introduction of ChatGPT from OpenAI and also became mainstream a tad overwhelming.
So for the first 2024 season episode of The Built Environment Marketing Show, I'm joined by Amy Walters and Jessica Barrett to give built environment firms a quick intro to AI so you can get on and get started.
Itâs a case of not being fooled as AI wasnât really the new kid on the block but has been around for quite some time. And itâs already in many of the day-to-day marketing tools you may already use.
We talked about how built environment firms can harness AI in their marketing and provide practical ways of application from marketing, content creation /communications and graphic design perspectives so thereâll be something that will apply to us all.
Key takeaways:
A quick rundown on what AI is
AI tools that weâve used
Practical ways you can get started using AI in your marketing workflows

Welcome to the new season of The Built Environment Marketing show hosted by me, Ayo Abbas from Abbas Marketing.
In this episode, I interview Chris Simmons, an architect, illustrator and educator who has grown a large Instagram following. Chris is an associate director at architecture practice Squire and Partners, mentors young architects through his Architects INstruction Community, runs sketching schools and has a newsletter about wellbeing. Basically, he's busy, busy busy!!
I connected with Chris Simmons online via LinkedIn during one of the lockdowns and have been impressed and following his content ever since. He shares a wealth of knowledge about working in architecture, drawing and sketching as well as creating brilliantly engaging video content. If you've not done so already - it's well worth checking out Chris' Instagram and LinkedIn profile for inspo.

Welcome to the Built Environment Marketing show hosted by me, Ayo Abbas from Abbas Marketing.
Todayâs episode is with Andy Matthews who is a co-founder of an architectural practice called Roach Matthews. I first met Andy a few years back when his practice was starting out and he was a panellist on one of our Build Up networking events on new practices. He was impressive then, particualry in the strategic way that he approached marketing and BD.
It was great to catch up now to see how his practice has evolved over the past two years and what systems and processes heâs looking to get in place.

Today I'm replaying my most downloaded episode with one of my most fascinating conversations with Rick Robinson who leads the global smart places team at Jacobs. This was recorded during lockdown one in August 2020 so it's interesting to look back on what was going on then and how much is still very much relevant today.
Rick aka The Urban Technologist is a tech and digital pioneer who brings a unique macro level perspective to our built environment conversation. He touches on some of the major issues such as climate change including the Pivot Projects initiative that he's been taking part in , net zero and digital poverty that society and our industry must look to address.
