Retired DEA Agent and Aidan Kearney aka Turtleboy join us as guests on this episode. Sean McDonough AKA Sean Onthegulf was born in Boston with Canton roots. He’s a 1975 Canton High School graduate and also a retired Supervisory Agent with the DEA.
His last DEA assignment was in Bogota, Colombia where he supervised all money laundering investigations for the DEA, which he says was one of his best assignments. He retired with the DEA after 28 years with previous assignments in Washington DC, Massachusetts, Texas, Peru, Florida, and Venezuela.
Sean also worked for the US Capitol Police, in DC and with the Arlington County Police Department in Arlington, VA where he was assigned as a CSI Agent. McDonough has noted that with the John O'Keefe/Karen Read investigation, all the (law enforcement) protocols were flat-out ignored and deviated from. He posted a viral social media letter to Canton Police Chief Rafferty asking her 17 questions with his name and law enforcement bonafides. He’s still waiting for a response. He firmly believes that Karen Read is innocent based on all the reports he’s read and questions how the evidence was found, collected, and processed.

I had quit about a month prior to her passing due to the horrific management and corruption that I witnessed daily as a supervisor within the facility. I wish that I had been there to save her. Please look out for your people. Please educate yourselves." https://www.curranjones.com/obituary/lorna-mcmurrey

On October 18, 2020, a young Latino activist, Antuan Castro del Rio, was protesting police violence and racism in front of the Fall River police station with a group of Black Lives Matter protesters. The action was a counter-protest to supporters of Donald Trump who want arbitrary racist repression directed against Black folks to continue. Caroline Pineau of Stem Haverhill on The Young Jurks live, discussing Haverhill's bs fees, who’s helping, and who’s helping the mayor! The Young Jurks will also announce endorsements of local campaigns in Boston, Cambridge, Malden, Methuen, Haverhill...Vote on Tuesday! Background on Stem Haverhill and their lawsuit from Mike Labella of the Eagle-Tribune: https://www.eagletribune.com HAVERHILL — A state official said Friday he has concerns about the relevance of impact fees being charged to retail marijuana shops by communities across the state, including in Haverhill. Nearly six months after the owner’s of Haverhill’s Stem — a retail cannabis shop — filed a lawsuit against the city and Mayor James Fiorentini requesting documentation of costs the city has incurred because of hosting the business, the city has provided a report listing $1.3 million in expenses. The report, which was provided to Stem along with pot shops Full Harvest Moonz and CNA Stores on Sept. 10, outlines both existing costs and annual expenses city officials say Haverhill will incur due to retail marijuana. The documents costs per city department, with police accounting for the highest portion of the total — including six new police officers and two new cruisers — with an annual cost of $866,930. Although he cannot comment on Haverhill’s report specifically because Stem and the city are still in litigation, Steven Hoffman, chairman of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission, says he’s reviewed the document. “We built a big industry but it’s not a new industry as it’s replacing an illicit industry that has existed for decades,” Hoffman said. “So things like training police on DUI and drug education has been going on for a long time and has nothing to do with the introduction of a legal business replacing an illegal business, therefore, a lot of the incremental expenses cities and towns are saying they are incurring — I just don’t buy.”

Voicemail hate directed at City Councilor Julia Mejia and her mom. Mejia released the recording on youtube with the following statement. “I received a voicemail on Friday that was all too familiar to myself and those in the immigrant community. I will not be intimidated by these words of hate, but rather use this as a way to speak up for others who have received this bullying. I decided to share the voicemail and add my own twist in hopes of reclaiming our power.
If this can happen to me, imagine what happens to those who aren’t public officials. This issue transcends immigrant status and affects all marginalized communities like LGBTQ+ and those living in poverty.
#AllMeansAll and this means standing up to hate & bullying by taking back our power. I ask those who disagree with me to meet with me so we can discuss our differences. This #MejiaMovement is about bringing people together. We’re not calling you out, we’re inviting you in.”

Haverhill supports downtown cannabis dispensary Stem over the lawsuit by three local businessmen.
Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theyoungjurks/support
Once again, the cannabis community is rallying behind Haverhill’s Caroline Pineau. Faced with a new lawsuit from Lloyd Jennings, J. Bradford Brooks and Stavros Dimakis that appeals the special permit already approved by city councilors, Pineau intends to open a shop called Stem at 124 Washington St. and this Saturday, marijuana advocates from across the state will come to her aid.
Marblehead’s Mike Crawford is organizing the latest protest with backing from his politics and cannabis-centric Young Jurks podcast, telling WHAV he intends to rally in Haverhill’s Railroad Square area on Oct. 5 starting at 11 a.m. All are welcome, he said.
Crawford, who uses cannabis medically, organized a similar rally attended by more than 50 residents in June to protest what he called “extortion” and bullying on the part the trio.
“The reason I’m involved is because this lawsuit affects everybody in the state. If they’re successful, this could wipe out medical cannabis and wipe out legalization,” he said. “We’re out to educate about why we’re not happy about what Mark’s Deli is doing and we’re sick of the stigma and bigotry the three businessmen are pulling.”
In a Land Court filing dated Sept. 27, Realtor Brooks, contractor Jennings and City Council hopeful Dimakis argued that in granting Stem’s special permit, the Haverhill City Council “acted arbitrarily, capriciously and in excess of its authority” for a variety of reasons related to zoning and odor mitigation, for example. https://whav.net/2019/10/03/cannabis-advocates-headed-to-haverhill-to-support-pineaus-marijuana-shop-stem-at-saturday-rally/

Responding to media coverage of the federal indictment of the Mayor of Fall River over cannabis licensing bribery. The community predicted it after Charlie Baker & Bob DeLeo drastically rewrote the voter passed legalization initiative. If Baker & DeLeo truly want to reduce cannabis corruption change the law back to what we voted in. Force cities and towns with cannabis bans to put it to voters! Allowing many towns and city to ban cannabis shops without a vote has increased corruption creating an all out big stakes game with very limited real estate options. Veterans, homeless, recovering addicts, disabled, on social security or disability, working poor many of them who are POC, LGBTQ, patients often working in poverty and in pain who can’t afford to pay a doctor to get certified every 10 months? Ricardo Arroyo for Boston City Council on The Young Jurks, 1/5/2019.
https://midnightmass.substack.com/p/ricardo-arroyo-for-boston-city-council
Ricardo Arroyo, candidate for Boston City Council in District 5 (Hyde Park, Mattapan, and Roslindale), is the son of the first Latino elected to the Council, Felix D. Arroyo and brother of Felix G. Arroyo, who has also served on the very same Council.
Interviewing Arroyo on my Disrupt Boston show, The Young Jurks, the 31 year old noted, “I come from a pretty great family.” and it goes beyond just the elected positions, his mother is a school teacher and his sister is employed as a Boston Public Schools educator. Another Arroyo brother, also came up in our discussion, Ernesto AKA Eroc, who I’ve known for decades, being a huge fan of his revolutionary hip hop, The Foundation Movement.
Arroyo until his recent campaign announcement, had been serving as a public defender attorney for the Committee for Public Counsel Services.
Unlike the incumbent District 5 Councilor Tim McCarthy, Arroyo supported the 2016 cannabis legalization initiative.
What follows are quotes from the broadcast.
Why are you running for City Council?
“The job I had as a public defender for me it was a calling…Being a public defender is so much of why I’m running. In the work that I did, we were dealing with the vast majority of clients having mental illness, dealing with addiction, with housing instability, and sometimes all three. And people who are generally not receiving the services they need. One of the things I loved about the job is we didn’t have to try to figure out where our next check was coming from, we were salaried, so I could help beyond the criminal cases, to help them with housing and getting treatment. Doing that work I would find the system could make a difference in their lives. I would make this impact on an individual basis... but every day at court there were new people showing up, everyday there is somebody else there so I could help one person but I couldn’t resolve the greater issues that are bringing people there, not without stepping outside of that role.”

https://midnightmass.substack.com/p/ma-state-rep-elect-nika-elugardo
Massachusetts State Rep Elect Nika Elugardo has first hand knowledge of the dangerous nature of illegal drug markets. Her dad was a dealer. This was one of many interesting revelations in my recent sit down with Elugardo on my Disrupt Boston show, “The Young Jurks”.
How do we ensure that the spirit of our Mass cannabis law is implemented in regards to helping those most disproportionately harmed?
“What do we do in the cannabis area? So yes we can have funds, because if we simply say we are going to make a preference for those who have been disproportionately held back by the very system and we don’t provide any funds for that then it’s not going to be possible to overcome it.”

https://digboston.com/let-me-make-this-distinction/
Are you still against the House marijuana omnibus bill?
I believe what has happened in the state of Massachusetts has been a miscarriage of justice … The people, over 1.8 million of them, their voice actually should carry forward … If the folks at the State House wanted to actually legislate this, why didn’t they doggone legislate it? Why did the people have to put a ballot question forward to legalize, regulate, and tax adult use of cannabis?
How would your Mayoral administration handle marijuana licensing?
As mayor of the City of Boston I look forward to ensuring that shops are open, that they are expedited in their opening … Unlike our current mayor, let me make this distinction, Mayor Marty Walsh was absolutely categorically against the legalization, regulation, taxation of adult use of cannabis in the state of Massachusetts, and he stood on the side of the alcohol industry and he stood on the side of Governor Baker, opposing the people in the City of Boston, because resoundingly people in the City of Boston said this is the direction we should go …
The reason why I did it? There has been a racist war on drugs for decades in this state. In 2008, possession of marijuana was legal, but if you were black between 2008 and 2016, you had a 330 percent higher chance of being arrested [for marijuana than white people] …
I do have to quote Tupac right now: “Instead of a war on poverty, they have a war on drugs so the police can bother me” When it comes down to it, we have been wrong in this, and sadly Mayor Walsh was unwilling to state that the state had been wrong.
The MassCann/NORML Boston Freedom Rally on the Common has sued the city six times in state court to get their permits, five times under the Menino administration and once with Mayor Walsh. What would you do as mayor to ensure that doesn’t have to occur again?
I believe we should have a city government that is based on democracy, accountability, and transparency, and it should be scandal-free. The Freedom Rally, the folks that want to celebrate their right in the City of Boston should be able to come to the oldest public park in America. We would welcome you versus having to fight us. General Electric didn’t need to get a permit … Do you need a helipad for the Freedom Rally?

In October 2014, Wu posted multiple tweets about Gamergate advocates,[16][17] ridiculing them for "fighting an apocalyptic future where women are 8 percent of programmers and not 3 percent."[18] While she was monitoring 8chan's pro-Gamergate chanboard (/gg/), anonymous users posted sensitive personal information about her, including at least one post containing her address. Subsequently, Wu began receiving multiple, specific rape and death threats including her address, causing Wu to flee her home.[19] These threats have been widely attributed to Gamergate supporters.[18][20] In December Wu received e-mails at her corporate account that contained images of mutilated dogs from people who identified as Gamergate supporters, following the recent death of her dog, Crash.[21]
Along with Anita Sarkeesian and Zoë Quinn, Wu is frequently cited by the media as one of the targets of some GamerGate supporters' harassment of women in t

Mass Patients & Vets oppose budget amendment that would enshrine DPH regs.
The Young Jurks, Saturdays, 6pm ET live on www.wemfradio.com/live with Hosts, Mike Crawford & Lauren Pespisa with in-studio guests, Nichole Snow & Michael Latullipe of Mass Patient Advocacy Alliance and Veteran, Stephen Mandile explain why they now oppose State Senator Jason Lewis' budget amendment that would waive the $50 annual medical marijuana DPH fee for Veterans.
Massachusetts Patient Advocacy Alliance and Veterans Alternative Healing believe that the Department of Public Health "lacks statutory authority" to charge medical marijuana patients for cards. The budget amendment could "enshrine such fees into law" and may cause "irreparable harm" to the Initiative law approved by Massachusetts voters in 2012.
Other topics of discussion, State Senator- Anne Gobi throwing medical marijuana patients under the bus, "gummy bears", State Senator- Pat Jehlen, Cambridge City Councilor- Leland Cheung, and the lame Boston media coverage, Governor Charlie Baker, and Boston's continuing shakedown of the Boston Freedom Rally.

With Stephen Mandile of Veterans Alternative Healing, Inc. live in-studio discussing his meeting that never happened with Governor Charlie Baker.
The Young Jurks also read a statement from Attorney Michael Cutler related to the use of Certified Nurse Practitioners to recommend medical marijuana by Canna Care Docs.
G.L. c. 112, sec. 80I [https://malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartI/TitleXVI/Chapter112/Section80I] enables NPs to perform tasks under a doctor’s supervision generally, which would appear to include certifying patients under the MMJ statute (St. 2012, c. 369). BRN — the nurses' licensing agency, the Board of Registration in Nursing — enacted regulation 244 CMR sec. 4.06(3)(d), which does so explicitly.
http://www.mass.gov/eohhs/docs/dph/regs/244cmr004.pdf Still, the MMJ statute (at sec. 12&13) delegates only to DPH, the authority to issue regulations to implement the state MMJ law; DPH’s failure to adopt the BRN regulation (thus limiting MMJ certs to doctors, excluding NPs) appears to be the basis for BRM’s — the doctors’ licensing agency, the Board of Regulation in Medicine — persecution of at least one Canna Care Docs (CCD)-doctor. CCD’s doctor may have a defense based on sec. 80I, but BRM may persist in its jihad against MMJ doctors until both trial and appellate judges tell the BRM it is wrong (if the judges rule that sec. 80I and the BRN regulation trumps the failure of DPH to adopt a corresponding regulation allowing NPs to certify MMJ patients). Note, I do not represent CCD, nor its doctor(s)."

According to the board’s order in Nadolny’s case, he is currently the medical director of Canna Care Docs, a medical marijuana dispensary company with several locations.
As of May 20, Nadolny, who also has privileges at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and Lawrence Memorial Hospital, had issued 5,792 medical marijuana certificates and violated protocols on “multiple occasions,” the order said.
Among the violations were failing to diagnose patients with a debilitating medical condition as required by law and delegating to nurse practitioners the authority to make such diagnoses.
