Embracing the Unpredictable Life: A Conversation with Dave Letterfly
Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, and prepare to be dazzled by our guest, David Letterfly Knoderer, the undisputed guru of fun. This playful soul has taken the road less traveled, turning his life into a grand spectacle of joy, creativity, and endless play. From the drumbeat's rhythm to the painter's palette, and from the circus ring to the open road, Letterfly's journey is a masterclass in embracing the thrill of the unknown and celebrating life's extraordinary moments.
A true circus man at heart, Letterfly has spun a life of captivating colors and whimsical wonders. His artistic prowess shines through in the traditional art of hand-painting signs, his deft touch transforming mundane materials into vibrant visuals. But it's not just about the aesthetics; every stroke of his brush carries the essence of emotional connection, something that digital designs can only aspire to replicate. With a roar of engines, Letterfly has also embraced the roaring world of motorcycle pin striping and trailer murals, further showcasing his inimitable ability to infuse fun into everything he touches.
But the road to playfulness isn't always paved with laughter. It's a daring journey that requires you to grapple with fear, to push the boundaries of the known and comfortable, and to challenge the norms that hinder the heart's desire for adventure. Through the pages of "Hit the Road and Thrive," Letterfly offers invaluable tips on preparing for such adventures and overcoming reluctance. He shows us how to transform fear into fun, turning the unfamiliar into an exciting playground. And ultimately, he implores us all to spread this ethos of playfulness and fun – be it through a quirky quiz, engaging podcast episodes, or enlightening books. So buckle up and join us as we embark on this journey with David Letterfly, one that promises a life bursting with joy, creativity, and an unstoppable spirit of playfulness.

David Kaye’s voice-over career began with ‘The Great American Hero’, General Hawk in the DIC animation series, GI Joe in 1989. Working as an on-air talent for radio station CKLG (LG73) quickly became less interesting as both on-camera and behind-the-mic roles started taking up more time. Over the next two decades, David’s voice career became legendary!
David’s biggest moment was when he was cast as ‘Megatron’ in 1994 in the wonderfully popular series ‘Transformers.’ In 2007, David “crossed over” to become the only actor in the history of the franchise to play the lead villain AND the lead hero when he was cast as ‘Optimus Prime’ for Cartoon Network’s ‘Transformers: Animated.”
David’s voice can be heard in an insane amount of TV shows, movies, video games adn commercials like: Insomniac’s ‘Ratchet & Clank’ as Clank, ‘Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions’ as ‘Mysterio’, ‘Nick Fury’ and ‘Captain America’ in ‘Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2’, ‘Missing Link’ in ‘Monsters vs Aliens’, the game, the voice of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and many movie trailers like the Secret Life of Pets and Bad Moms!

After tens of thousands of sales, countless fails, and the revelation of too many startling stories to tell in a single night of vintage debauchery, Duane began to assemble what would later be known as Selling Dead People’s Things, a vintage memoir that documents a slice of those early years of vintage retailing.
He founded The Broadway Antique Market, home to 75 top dealers. It’s Chicago’s largest multi-dealer MCM shopping destination and vintage department store. For collectors of mid century design, BAM is a mini modern Mecca; for others, it’s a fun place to idle away an afternoon, people watch, and/or try not to buy something.
Selling Dead People’s Thingsis a #1 Amazon Bestseller and be named a Top 20 LGBTQ+ memoir of 2019!
In June 2022, he released Vintage Confidential: Retro Rattled, Tales Tattled, a hybrid memoir that weaves more vintage stories, essays, and imaginings.

What did the turkey say on Thanksgiving?
After all of the leftovers from Thanksgiving, I had to check myself into rehab.
Q: How many cooks does it take to stuff a turkey?
A: Only one, but you have to really squeeze him in there.
Q: Why did the cranberries turn red?
A: Because they saw the turkeys dressing.
For the 90's kids, I am going to let that Cranberries joke linger...

We can’t figure out why it is that kids get to have all of the fun!? The idea of Professors at Play was established by David Thomas and Lisa Forbes. They created it because they believe in the power of fun and play and think it is often underutilized within higher education.
David has been the “Professor of Fun” for 10 years and has given hundreds of talks on the topic and wrote a book: Fun, Taste, and Games. Lisa and David partnered to think of new, fun, and playful ideas and together have also given talks to a couple of different faculty groups on the use of play and fun in teaching and learning. Their community began with five members and then after Lisa’s Faculty Focus publication, hundreds of playful faculty/instructional designers started coming out of the woodwork! Like Playful Humans, Lisa and David seek to create a positive, inviting, and playful space for people to share their experiences, develop their ideas, and get resources and inspiration about fun and play!

Between 1974 and 1984 Roth recorded ten albums with this label, establishing himself as a prominent folk singer and dulcimer player. In 1984, Roth performed the theme to the PBS-TV children’s show Shining Time Station, which brought him to another new and much larger market. His friendship and collaboration in 2006 with Noel Paul Stookey, of the legendary folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary, further cemented Roth in American folk history. His career took him to concert and symphony stages around the world, to festivals, radio, television shows, and two appearances at the White House.
Then came a sudden diagnosis of Melanoma, and it changed his life. He had a choice to accept a death sentence or to live. He chose life. Through adapting and combining techniques from his music and performance practice with others that he researched, he found a simple and powerful method to change how he lived. Roth discovered how to not just survive but to become truly happy and thrive. Roth now guides individuals and groups in the discovery of what really matters to them, how to accomplish their goals, and how handling stress is an essential factor in a healthy life. He even incorporated the dulcimer into his meditations!

We thought a fun way to celebrate would be to trade shows for the day! In this episode, Scott hosts a Comedy Round Table, where he talks with 3 professional comics about Standup Comedy as an art form and life career. This one stars Bruce "Babyman" Baum, one of the funniest and most famous comedians of all time. Also, they are joined by Emmy-nominated Lang Parker, and Corporate Comedy King, Mike Guido. They discuss comedy on the road, career choices, and how standup comedy offered opportunities other careers don't.
