Over the last three years, Jessica has gone through what she describes as more than a spiritual awakening — a full excavation of who she is at her core. She talks candidly about the unraveling, the work she put in on herself, and the moment things finally clicked into place. The clarity she gained didn't just change how she sees the world — it changed how she moves through it.

That shift has been most profound in her role as a mother. Jessica opens up about how her new mental clarity has made her a more present, intentional parent. She's sharper, more grounded, and now parents with purpose instead of autopilot — actively breaking generational cycles so her children can grow into their own identities without the weight she carried. She's not just raising kids; she's guiding them with eyes wide open.

The conversation also gets into the loneliness of real clarity, shifting relationships, the rebalancing of her bond with her mother, and a deep dive into how being raised Black and Catholic in Seattle shaped their sense of self in ways most people can't fully grasp.

This episode is honest, layered, and deeply human.

In this episode, we dive deep into what we love (and don't love) about 18 years of marriage. From vulnerability and commitment to the reality that marriage isn't always a fairytale, we keep it 100% real.

We also explore a Morgan Stanley study predicting that by 2030, nearly half of US women ages 25-44 will be single and child-free. Is this progress or a challenge to tradition? We discuss why younger generations are making different choices, the origins of marriage as an institution, and why personal choice should always come first.

Plus: arranged marriages, the pressure to conform, and why it's okay to "swipe till you die" if that's your choice. Marriage isn't for everyone—and that's perfectly fine.

Breakups suck. They're hard and they hurt. It's just part of life - relationships don't always work out. Maybe you're just not compatible or you mutually decide to call it quits. But, there comes a point where you not being able to "keep a man" might be more about YOU and you're own unresolved issues. It's a tough pill to swallow and even harder to admit that maybe, just maybe, you are not "perfect" and that you have faults as well.

A strong, lasting, healthy relationship is made up of two whole individuals who are ready for a long-term commitment. Sometimes, before you are able to reach that level of commitment you need to do some self-care and get work on yourself. It's not always easy, but it's worth it in the long run.

Nearly 70% of divorces in the US are initiated by women. So, why do more women than men call it quits on marriage? Maybe, just maybe, it's because they do not benefit from marriage in the same way that men do. Gender roles traditionally teach women to prepare to be a "good wife" their entire lives whereas men are taught to build careers. Ultimately, as times have changed, married women might get fed up with this narrative and decide that marriage cannot benefit them in the way they need.

In this episode, the Trufants discuss who usually benefits more from marriage - men or women? And, what can be done to make it feel more equal on both sides to have a lasting marriage.
