When a TikTok account goes from zero to over 800,000 in just two months, you know you've got something good. Our guest today is Karen Diaz, the parent and human behind the viral TikTok account, @goldenchilaquil. Chilaquil is a nine month old Golden Retriever puppy who was born in Toronto to a Mexican mom and Brazilian dad, and moved to Mexico City with his parents to avoid the cold winter. He has since become an internet sensation with a loyal following, brand deals, and his very own agent.
With all the different information out there, it's hard to know what to feed your dog. Our guest today is Sara Starkman, a certified canine nutritionist, writer, recipe developer and founder of Heal DOGGY – a canine wellness hub that helps guide dog parents and pups on their journey to optimal well being. On this episode, we talk canine nutrition, health trends in the pet space, and overcoming dog parent guilt.

What are our dog's thinking? Where do they go when they pass away? Our guest today is Nancy Mello. As you may remember from our previous episode with her, Nancy is an animal communicator and Evidential Medium. She prides herself in end-of-life pet work and helping pets with problem behaviors in over sixty countries. She has helped find 121 pets since 2020. On this episode, Nancy connect's to our dogs, including two who have passed away.
We all want to find love, but what about finding love through your dog? Our guest today is Bella, who is the opposable thumbs behind the instagram @bully.baloo, an account that aims to educate and break the stigma surrounding bully breed and rescue dogs. Baloo is a task trained service dog and sport dog who Bella rescued from a local animal shelter in her freshman year of college. Baloo has changed Bella’s life in a number of ways, including introducing her to her now fiancé at the dog park.

Did you know that cheetahs and dogs can be best friends? Our guest today is Andie Haugen, who is a senior animal trainer and educator in the Cat Ambassador Program at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. In this role over the last five years, she has worked with eleven cheetahs and a whole bunch of other incredible animals. She was featured on programs such as the Disney+ show, “It’s a Dog’s Life” and has been interviewed by Cincinnati Magazine, Inside Edition and the Cincinnati Zoo’s podcast, Zoo Tales. In addition to all of her work with cheetahs, Andie has also raised three cheetah companion dogs, who serve as unexpected friends to baby cheetahs born as single cubs.
On this Giving Tuesday, we're telling the story of Thomas Panek, the president and CEO of Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Under Panek’s leadership since 2014, Guiding Eyes continues to be an international leader and pioneer in the service animal field, including the first-of-its-kind specialized training program for running guide dogs. An avid marathon runner, Panek ranks amongst the top athletes in the Visually Impaired Division of the Boston and New York Marathons. In 2019, he became the first runner to compete in the New York City Half Marathon guided by dogs, and in 2020, he became the first blind athlete to run a self-guided 5K solo through Central Park in New York City. On this episode we talk about running, guide dog training, and the impact Guiding Eyes has on individuals experiencing vision loss.

Our guest this week is Judith Harbour, who is the Schwarzman AMC’s full-time, on-site licensed clinical social worker. Judith has completed the post-graduate Veterinary Social Work Certificate Program from the University of Tennessee and facilitates AMC’s ‘virtual’ Pet Loss Support Group. Our guests this week are Brian Sterling-Vete and Helen Wuorio from Paranormal Rescue, the world’s first professional international paranormal emergency service. Our guest this week is Marisa Grimshaw. Marisa is the Head of PR and Marketing Communications for Rhone, a men's performance lifestyle brand. In addition to her full-time job, Marisa is also the social media manager and full-time assistant to her dog, Lilybug. Marisa fostered and adopted Bug in 2013 while co-running Mr. Bones & Co. , a 501c3 animal welfare nonprofit and rescue organization, and now advocates for Bully breeds through Lilybug's social following of almost 500,000. On this episode we discuss the stigma around Bully breeds, fostering tips, and managing a social media following with a full time job.
Our guest this week is Angie Johnston, who is an assistant professor at Boston College where she directs the Canine Cognition Center and Social Learning Laboratory. She received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Yale University and her B.S. in Child Development from the University of Texas at Dallas. Her research on canine cognition and child development has received numerous awards from sources such as the National Science Foundation, and her work has been featured on NBC Nightly News, the Today Show, and Scientific American. The Canine Cognition Lab at Boston College seeks to understand how dogs see the world by inviting pet dogs in the Boston area to come visit the lab and do fun research projects. On this episode we discuss the psychology of dogs, domestication, and what we can learn through these scientific findings.

Our guest this week is Jennifer Hubbard, who is the executive director of the Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation and Animal Sanctuary, a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization working to promote compassion and healing through human animal connection. The foundation was founded in 2013 to commemorate and honor the life of Jenny’s daughter Catherine Violet Hubbard, a six-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy and passionate animal lover who dreamt of someday working with and caring for them. We talk with Jenny about overcoming tragedy, finding strength, and honoring Catherine's legacy.
Our guest this week is Elizabeth Vacchiano, who is a Guiding Eyes Puppy Program Regional Manager. Liz has been working with Guiding Eyes professionally for two years now and just finished raising her second puppy for them. Liz teaches the puppy class that Jacquie and Biscuit attend and she joined us to discuss how she supports these teams through their training, and gave us an update about Biscuit’s progress.

According to ChoosingTherapy.com, the “puppy blues” refers to an emotional state of feeling overwhelmed, sad, anxious, or regretful that many people experience after bringing home a new dog. We discuss the causes, symptoms, and ways to alleviate feelings of isolation after getting a new dog.
Our guest this week is Noah from the instagram and TikTok account @miloandnoah. Noah is the dog dad of Milo, Moose, & Mowgli. This little family started out with just Milo & Noah, but he has since rescued two siblings for Milo. They use their platform of almost 600k across TikTok & Instagram to create videos that encompasses humor, mental health, social justice, and wholesome dogs being dogs content. On this episode we discuss being a man in a female dominated industry and Noah's journey to becoming a full fledged dog person.
Our guest this week is George and his water rescue Newfoundland, Oakley! Oakley was trained to be a water rescue dog at the American Academy or Canine Water Rescue in Boston, MA and started training when she was only 11 weeks old. We did a photoshoot with Oakley last summer and, to this day, is the highest engagement we’ve ever had on a single Dogist post with a reach of 1.8 million. Elias got to tag along with George and Oakley last week while they did a doors off helicopter trial, so we figured it was the perfect time to have them on the podcast so we can hear all about it.
Our guest this week is Collyn from the tiktok account @makoandkonasmom. What once began as @itscollynnn, evolved into @collynandkona, and has since become @makoandkonasmom. Collyn and her two dogs — Kona and mako — have now accumulated over 330k followers on TikTok. Collyn originally downloaded the app at the start of the pandemic with the hope of creating solo mental health content that made others feel less alone, but after one lip sync video with Kona, she quickly realized what her niche was.
This week we sat down with Jane Moskowitz, the co-founder of the Cunucu Dog Rescue based in Aruba. A native New Yorker and impassioned animal lover, Jane is a 5th grade teacher by day and dog rescuer by night. Her drive stems from a deep desire to give a voice to the voiceless, and she believes that, together, we can truly make a difference for animals in need.

This week we sat down with Squire Rushnell and Louise Duart, the producers of the new Netflix film, Rescued by Ruby, which tells the remarkable TRUE STORY of a shelter dog that was saved from being put down, made history by becoming the first shelter dog to earn a spot on the Rhode Island State Police K9 unit, and then went on to make a rescue so incredible, and unlikely, that it earned Ruby the honor of being named as the nation’s “Search and Rescue Dog of the Year.”
This week we sat down with Matt Hobbs, otherwise known as Puppy Songs on TikTok and Instagram. When the pandemic hit in 2020, Matt was stuck at home with his two pups (Leni and Marley) singing to them all day, like so many dog owners do. So when he decided to start posting music videos for these short, silly tunes on Instagram and TikTok, Puppy Songs was born! Since then Puppy Songs has released 118 original songs - including many viral hits like "Stuck on My Teefs" and he even wrote a song for the Dogist Dogs! Stay tuned at the end for our new theme song!
This week we sat down with our friend Michael Schneider from Pilots to the Rescue. Michael Schneider started Pilots To The Rescue back in 2015 to combine his love of aviation and saving animals. Pilots To The Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer-driven, 501c3 public benefit aviation organization with a mission is transport animals and people at risk.
This week we sat down with the queen of Tinder, Lane Moore! Lane Moore is an an award-winning comedian, actor, writer, and musician and is currently on tour for her comedy show "Tinder Live". We discuss dating with dogs, dating app profiles, and the phenomenon of 'dog-fishing'.

On this week's episode we sit down with TikTok sensations Jonathan Graziano and his dog, Noodle the Pug. Jonathan is a comedian and social media manager living in NYC with his geriatric Pug, Noodle. He started posting videos on TikTok in February of 2021 in an effort to combat existential dread, and somehow ended up with one of the most famous dogs on the internet with over 4.6 million followers. Noodle is best known for having bones or no bones on any given day. To no one's surprise, Noodle is handling fame quite well.

Today we’re diving into RESCUE MONTH. This month, we’ll be featuring four rescue organizations on The Dogist and our goal is to highlight an adoptable dog every single day for the month of October. The first organization we’re featuring is the Animal Care Centers of New York City. Individuals from all over New York City come to the ACC every day of the week for reasons as diverse as reclaiming lost pets, adopting new furry family members and getting resources to help them keep their pets in homes. Our guest today is Katy Hansen, who is the Director of Marketing & Communications at the ACC. She joined in 2015 after having spent 20 years on Wall Street.
On today’s episode we’re featuring the amazing team at the Northeast Search and Rescue. Northeast Search and Rescue is a non-profit who’s volunteers offer their specialist search-and-rescue skills to bring home the lost, missing, and injured all over the tri-state area. Every year, their members donate an average of 10,000 hours to rescue operations and training. Their handlers, K9s, and technical rescue specialists are trained in live find, human remains detection, trailing, water detection, swift water rescue, grid search, disaster response, search management, and more, and respond to calls for assistance day or night, on land or water, in all weather. We sat down with Cristina Alcivar and Heidi Huebner to talk about airport therapy dogs around the country. Cristina Alcivar is the founder of Vane Airport Media, a Canadian media company that publishes the latest news about health and wellness airport services and amenities, and Heidi Huebner is the director of the PUP Program (Pets Unstressing Passengers) for Los Angeles World Airports. There are currently 87 North American airports that have implemented Therapy Dog Programs to enhance the passenger journey and experience, and today we’re going to learn all about how these programs enhance the lives of travelers.
We sat down with Rebekah Cross and Dan Weesner to discuss Guiding Eyes for the Blind, a non-profit that provides guide dogs to people with vision loss completely free of charge. Rebekah is both a graduate and an employee of Guiding Eyes, and joined the organization as the Special Gifts Officer in 2019 with her guide dog Regal. Dan is a qualified Guide Dog Mobility Instructor and has trained over 75 dogs.
