Father's Day is this weekend, and June is also Men's Health Month, so it's an ESPECIALLY good time to put a spotlight on Men's health issues. The Movember Institute of Men's Health is a global research and advocacy hub that unites experts to address critical men’s health issues.

One Child. One Friend. 12+ Years, No Matter What.
We select children who could most benefit from a relationship with a long-term professional mentor.
We partner with community organizations, schools and foster care systems to help us meet children (ages 4 to 6) and families who could benefit most from a relationship with a Friend.
We exclusively focus on children who face enormous systemic barriers.
We hire and train full-time paid professional mentors called Friends.
A Friend‘s full-time job is to empower and support youth and their caregiver(s). Each Friend serves a roster of 8 children, dedicating 4 hours of professional mentorship to each child every week.
Moving mentorship out of the volunteer realm is key to getting the quality, consistency and commitment our children and their families deserve in the relationship.
We commit for the long term.
We commit to every child for the long term, from kindergarten through graduation. 12+ years, no matter what.
Our work is relationship-based, individualized and intentional.

Aired January 4, 2026: If you’ve been struggling to get things done or meet your goals, in the past...the problem isn’t that you’re not trying hard enough, it’s that you’re only trying in the first place. The book Stop Trying! The Life-Transforming Power of Trying Less & Doing More...IS the change we need to kick off the new year RIGHT! In this podcast, Lisa Foxx interviews author, motivational speaker Carla Ondrasik about all the ways we can get the word 'TRY' OUT of our vocabulary and start actually making things happen!‘Lots of books promise change, but the book Stop Trying IS the change! Carla Ondrasik, gives you one simple yet insanely powerful tool that’ll flip your life into high gear. If you’re ready to stop spinning your wheels and actually start living a life that feels meaningful and successful, this book shows you exactly how to do it.” —Mel Robbins, bestselling author and host of The Mel Robbins Podcast
“Carla’s book does a fantastic job of motivating anyone to stop making excuses so they can dance all the way to the finish line of their dreams. Stop Trying! is a call to action that encourages us all to get off our butts and do it.” —Paula Abdul, singer, choreographer, and actress
When it comes to getting stuff done, we fall short more often than we like to admit. This can leave us feeling frustrated and ashamed, because despite trying our very best we can’t seem to meet our goals. Why? The surprising answer is ingeniously outlined in Stop Trying!: The Life-Transforming Power of Trying Less and Doing More—an evolutionary guide that evokes the revelatory force of The Five-Second Rule and the sublime practicality of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Put simply, it turns out that trying is just an illusion for doing.
Stop Trying! illuminates the deception in a mindset built on trying, which can lead to anxiety, procrastination, perceived loss of control, fatigue, fear of failure, lack of follow-through, and overall life dissatisfaction. Importantly, this book offers a way out of the rut and into practical, progressive action. Stop Trying! reveals the compelling science behind our brain, behaviors, and beliefs when it comes to the notion of trying. Pulling from positive psychology, the science of habit formation, clinical studies, and more, motivational speaker Carla Ondrasik guides us to proven-effective strategies for better doing—and ultimately to goal achievement and a more fulfilling life.
Readers will learn techniques and tips, build skills through interactive activities, and hear sincere stories from everyday people who’ve made the transformative switch from trying to doing. Achievement is just one “do or do not” decision away, and it starts with eliminating “try” from our vocabulary. Stop Trying! shows us how to do that.

CASA OC is a privately-funded non-profit organization that serves severely abused, neglected and abandoned children through the recruitment, training, and continued support of volunteers–CASAs–who advocate for and mentor these children. From the courtroom to the classroom, CASAs represent the best interests of the children they serve. CASA OC stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. The goal is to provide a consistent and reliable adult presence for the child as they navigate the complex foster care system.
They are looking to drive more people to volunteer AND attend their fundraiser : December 5th, the "Friends of CASA Holiday Luncheon" at Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach, with a fashion presentation by Monique Lhuillier.

According to author and motivational speaker Carla Ondrasik, if you feel like you’re spinning your wheels and falling short of your goals, the problem isn't that you're not trying hard enough—it's that you're trying at all. Carla knows a thing or two about getting things done. She was a powerhouse in the music industry, serving as the former vice president of Creative Writer Development for EMI Music. She helped bring hit songs to life for icons like Barbra Streisand, Cher, Mariah Carey, and Christina Aguilera, and even discovered, signed, and developed her own husband, musical artist John Ondrasik aka Five for Fighting.
In her new book, "Stop Trying! The Life-Transforming Power of Trying Less and Doing More", Ondrasik reveals the hidden science behind why a mindset built on "trying" can lead to anxiety, procrastination, and a fear of failure. It's an evolutionary guide to help you transform from a life of trying to a life of doing.
Aired September 21, 2025: In this podcast, Lisa Foxx talks to her friend Carla Ondrasik about getting the word 'TRY' OUT OF OUR LIVES! It's so much wasted time 'trying' instead of just getting things DONE! Her book is a fantastic read. Shes offers an insight on the SCIENCE behind this, plus work-book-like challenges and just over all help, to convert our inner voice to something much more powerful. VERY MOTIVATING! I didn't know how many things I wasn't getting done until I talked to Carla! Check out her book AND find her on Instagram at @carlaondrasikSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Sunday Oct. 26th...THOUSANDS are coming together at the LA State Historic Park for the annual Susan G. Komen ‘More than Pink’ Walk to raise crucial funds to fight breast cancer. And no one knows more about that, then Nichole Delansky ...a busy working Mom who is also THANKFULLY a breast cancer SURVIVOR!! Diagnosed in October 2023, Nichole underwent multiple surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation, and has transitioned to preventative drug therapy. She joined the LA chapter of Komen's advisory board (is their Board Chair).
For those interested in more information or to register for the walk they can go to www.komen.org/lacountywalk if they have any questions about breast cancer, need assistance they can call 877-Go-KOMEN. We ALSO will have an 'iHeart Media Team' too 🙂
What is the MORE THAN PINK Walk? The MORE THAN PINK Walk, Susan G. Komen’s largest fundraising event series, evolved from the Race for the Cure in 2018. Each year, we host over 100,000 participants at our 40+ in-person (and one virtual) walks across the U.S. Since the first Walk in 2018, our participants have raised more than $60 million dollars and continue to be a part of a community committed to our vision of a world without breast cancer. With inclusive and accessible options for people of all ages and abilities – including breast cancer survivors, those currently in treatment for breast cancer and people living with metastatic breast cancer – the Walk provides participants the opportunity to come together and connect in meaningful ways. It allows us to focus on sharing our passion, sharing our stories and connecting with others, all while fundraising to support life-saving programs and research.
The finish line is a world without breast cancer, and we know the only way we can get there is together.
What does it mean to be More Than Pink? For too long, pink has been connected to breast cancer awareness. However, people impacted by breast cancer need more than awareness; they need access to treatment, emotional support and so much more. It will take more than pink to help achieve our vision of a world without breast cancer. It’s more than a pink-themed costume, wig or pink ribbon at a fundraising event and it’s more than one month a year. Together, we are More Than Pink: passionate and supportive people dedicated to supporting those who need help today while tirelessly searching for tomorrow’s cures.
Aired October 5, 2025: In this podcast: Lisa Foxx talks to Nichole Delansky about her breast cancer journey and why she hopes people will come out and support.

Aired August 31, 2025: In this podcast, Lisa Foxx talks to Ed Peisner, the Co-Founder of the Organization for Social Media Safety about all the ways his organization to speaks out to guide young people on how to better to protect themselves from the dangers of social media. The Organization for Social Media Safety is the first consumer protection organization exclusively focused on social media. They work to make social media safe for everyone. They protect against all social media-related dangers including: Cyberbullying, Sextortion, Sexual Harassment, Anxiety/Depression, Suicide/Self-Harm, Eating Disorders, Substance Abuse, and Trafficking.
The Organization for Social Media Safety uses an innovative, consumer protection-oriented approach that includes: Education: They teach social media safety skills to students, parents, and educators across the country. Advocacy: They advocate at all levels of government to improve and create public policies that enhance social media safety. Technology: They develop software and applications to provide real-time protection against any and all social media-related dangers. And so much more!
After a long career in business, Ed Peisner founded the Organization for Social Media Safety in 2017 after his teenage son Jordan was viciously assaulted in West Hills, CA. The attack was filmed and uploaded to social media by an associate of the attacker. Jordan was left with serious and life-long injuries from the assault. Ed decided to dedicate himself to the goal of ensuring that no other family had to endure such a terrible ordeal. Ed now proudly travels the country, teaching students, parents, and educators essential social media safety skills. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, 5 kids, two dogs, and bearded dragon.
JORDANS LAW: In 2016, then 14-year-old Jordan Peisner was standing with friends outside a local fast food restaurant when he was suddenly and viciously assaulted by another teen he did not know. During the attack and while Jordan lay helpless on the ground, witnesses and friends of the perpetrator stood and filmed the assault on their phones and then quickly uploaded their videos to social media. Now, this horrifying footage lives forever on social media already having been viewed by hundreds of thousands.
Determined to ensure that no other family had to endure such an ordeal, Jordan’s father, Ed Peisner, formed the Organization for Social Media Safety and began researching how to help. He was astonished to learn that since the early 2000s social media motived violence, or attacks initiated to be filmed and distributed on social media for the purpose of gaining internet fame, had risen exponentially each year. So, the Organization for Social Media Safety set to work on public policy advocacy to stop this disturbing trend.
Incredibly, within only a year, the California legislature, working closely with the Organization for Social Media Safety, passed the nation’s first law, AB 1542, to deter social media motivated violence. The law was called Jordan’s Law. It states that anyone who commits a violent felony and films it or who conspires with an attacker to film a violent crime will receive an enhanced prison sentence.

Aired May 18, 2025: Lisa Foxx interviews Mom Lesley-Ann Stone, whose son HAD life threatening food & environmental allergies, until he was treated at the Institute. Lisa also talks to Food Allergy Institute Founder, Dr. Inderpal Randhawa about how his process works and how he helps get folks in 'food allergy remission' so that they are FREE of any issues.
The Food Allergy Institute is based in Long Beach, California with 300+ employees, and the Tolerance Induction Program has over 8,000 graduates from all over the world. There is no food allergy program like this in the world, where upon graduation the patient can eat whatever they want in whatever quantity they want. Currently, the Tolerance Induction Program treats patients up to the age of 25. Lesley-Ann's son Sam, who is now 12 years old, graduated from the program in 2018. He had multiple, severe, life-threatening food allergies, including peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, sesame and mustard seed along with 13 different environmental allergies. Sam now eats freely and consumes his allergens regularly with no reaction whatsoever. How exciting is THAT?!! He lives a life in 100% food freedom!!
Dr. Inderpal Randhawa is a 5-time board certified physician. He is the Founder of the Food Allergy Institute and the Tolerance Induction Program. Dr. Randhawa is also the Founder of the Translational Pulmonary & Immunology Research Center (TPRIC), a non-profit organization that challenges conventional approaches to rare and orphan diseases. Distressed by watching parents suffer the loss of a child to fatal allergic reactions, he proposed to find groundbreaking solutions and change the status quo. His early experience in lung transplant immunology coupled with his collaboration with national allergy and immunology specialists, led him to develop the safe, targeted solutions now offered through the Food Allergy Institute (FAI). FAI was founded in 2015, a cutting-edge clinical care and research center that is revolutionizing food allergy treatment.

Aired Sunday, March 9, 2025. Lisa Foxx talks to Kelly Pond, CEO of Special Olympics Southern California, about all the ways their programs help people with intellectual disabilities thrive! They talk all things sports activities and competitions, health and wellness programs, their upcoming fundraisers and police officer Torch Run.
Special Olympics Southern California offers 13 sports across 4 seasons, serving thousands of athletes in community and school-based programs in 11 counties. It also offers opportunities for athletes to improve their overall health and wellness, gain leadership skills and much more. These programs are supported by a passionate community including more than 50 employees, thousands of volunteers, SOSC’s valued partners and donors, and the community at large.
Caterina’s Club’s mission is to provide warm meals, affordable housing assistance, and job training to homeless and low-income families throughout Southern California. It is supported by a vision where we are creating a modicum of consistency in these children’s lives through something as simple yet meaningful as a nightly dinner.
This overarching vision that started as preventing children in motels from going to bed hungry has turned into 5,055 vulnerable children receiving a meal every day at 114 sites throughout LA and Orange Counties; 268 families have been placed in permanent housing in safe neighborhoods through our Welcome Home program, and 850+ teens have trained through the Hospitality Academy at four Anaheim High Schools. Our vision is to provide every child with the resources, love, and encouragement they need to be healthy, safe, and educated.
It all started with Mamma Caterina. Bruno and his mother, Caterina, visited the Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim down the street from his restaurant (Anaheim White House), where his mother noticed that there was a 6-year old boy eating potato chips for dinner, because his family couldn’t afford a proper meal. Caterina insisted that Bruno make some pasta for the child. They soon realized that there were many more of these hungry ‘motel children’, so Bruno began making pasta for 72 children, 5 nights a week, giving birth to our program “Feeding the Kids in America”. Today, that event has expanded to feeding over 25,025 meals a week. Frustrated that feeding the children was not enough, Bruno began a second program called “Welcome Home”, where we provide qualified families, living in the dark environment of a motel, with the necessary resources to move into the safety and stability of an apartment or condo.
In this podcast, Lisa Foxx talks to Chef Bruno Serato about how Caterina's Club got started AND what we can do to help him continue to feed THOUSANDS of motel-kids in need. They also teach kids to cook on their own and help rehouse families. Their annual Pastathon is on Giving Tuesday...please give if you can!
Come by on Giving Tuesday and see the LIVE broadcast, donate on-site, and drop off pasta/sauce donations. This year, we’re celebrating a significant milestone—10 million meals served to disadvantaged youth. Your generosity has been instrumental in reaching this goal, and we’re so grateful for your continued commitment. Even if you can’t attend, you can still participate in the excitement of our auction from anywhere. Be sure to spread the word to friends, family, and colleagues. The AIDS Walk LA 2024, powered by APLA Health, is coming up, Sunday Oct. 13th! An annual fundraising event dedicated to supporting HIV/AIDS research, prevention, and support services. One of the largest (and first) AIDS fundraising events in the country, it draws thousands of participants and raises millions of dollars to combat and assist those affected by HIV/AIDS. This year marks the 40th anniversary of AIDS Walk LA, celebrating four decades of unwavering commitment to combating HIV/AIDS. Over the past 40 years, APLA Health has worked to bring attention to crises, eliminate stigmas, and make healthcare equity a priority in Los Angeles County.
APLA Health serves more than 18,000 patients and clients annually, focusing on serving the low-income LGBTQ+ community and people living with HIV. They continue to be the leading provider of HIV prevention and health education services in Los Angeles County targeting populations at highest risk of HIV, including gay men of color, young gay men, and members of the transgender community. Over the past 40 years, medical advancements have transformed HIV from a fatal disease into a manageable chronic condition, allowing individuals with HIV to live longer, healthier lives. Four years ago this September, Eric Borstein almost died due to severe right heart failure. He spent 16 days in the ICU where he was diagnosed with a very rare lung disease called Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, a disease with no cure. At the time the outlook was dire, as they told his wife he probably had 3-6 months to live. Needless to say, four years later he is ALIVE and much better thanks to walking! Eric learned very early on that walking helped mitigate the terrible side effects associated with medications. A few short steps in the hospital led to a walk around the block at home, which led to a mile, two, three. In the calendar years 2022 he walked 4,700 miles, and in 2023 he walked a little over 5,000 miles. Now he's hoping you will walk with him, to raise money and awareness for PAH patients.
September 22nd, Eric will be walking from Los Angeles to San Diego to raise awareness for this rare disease. Before he heads out on this 6-day journey down the coast, he and his family are putting on the first annual Where is EB? fundraiser and 5K in Santa Monica, that will benefit Team PHenomenal Hope. Find out more about his big event Sept 22nd HERE
Aired September 8, 2024: In this podcast, Lisa Foxx talks to Eric Borstein about his story. He shares what led up to his diagnosis and how he is using WALKING to stay healthy. However, too many income eligible drivers remain uninsured because the costs of standard insurance premiums are beyond their financial reach. Learn about affordable solutions that may help protect you, your friends, family and other drivers on the road.
Effective January 01, 2015 a new law, SB 1273 passed by the Governor on September 19, 2014, provides an exception to the three-year continuously licensed requirement to allow drivers with less than 3 years verifiable driving experience to participate in the program and increased vehicle values from $20,000 to $25,000. For 50 years, The Los Angeles Center for Law & Justice has offered legal services for communities facing multiple barriers to accessing justice. Their mission? To secure justice for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking, empowering them to shape their own futures. Unfortunately, about 80% of family law cases involve at least one self-represented individual, totaling over 16,000 survivors in LA County who are navigating their legal battles alone. Lack of access to legal representation puts survivors at risk of losing crucial protections and rights.
LACLJ is like a non-profit law firm with a full staff of social workers. LACLJ provides survivors with expert legal representation and dedicated advocacy both inside and outside the courtroom. Their commitment extends beyond addressing legal challenges, as they also connect families to essential resources, fostering self-sufficiency and creating more hopeful futures. Our center even includes several social workers on staff.
LACLJ’s core legal services include:
1. Domestic Violence Restraining Orders
2. Family Law (Custody, divorce, paternity)
3. Immigration (VAWA, U Visa, T Visa, SIJS, Adjustment of Status, DACA, Removal Defense)
4. Civil Advocacy
5. Criminal Justice Advocacy
In this podcast, Lisa Foxx talks to the Executive Director of the LACJL, Carmen McDonald all about their history, who they help and how they can help those needing assistance in the above areas at NO COST.

Aired March 17, 2024:Please join us for TEAM JILLIAN's 17th year at WALK MS! It's happening Sunday, March 24th at the Rose Bowl!
She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2008 when she was 23 years old. Like most of you, we had heard of MS - but didn't know anything about what this disease can do to your mind and your body. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a very unpredictable disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body.
MS is different for everyone, making it more challenging to solve. If you know Jill, you know she keeps life positive and hides her bad days well. Her symptoms are different every day. They can include numbness, weakness and tingling in her arms and legs and face, double and blurred vision, extreme fatigue, joint pain, migraines, slurred speech, brain fog.
The first Walk MS event was in 1988, and since then more than $920 million has been raised for research and programs to improve the lives of people living with MS. Today, there are treatments where there weren't any before, and the dream of ending MS is becoming a reality. But there is still so much to do. Jill and her family formed Team Jillian the year she was diagnosed and we won't stop until there is a cure.
The money raised will drive groundbreaking research, provide life-changing programs and guarantee a supportive community for those who need it most. The National MS Society has been there for Jillian since she was diagnosed - and we are so incredibly thankful for the work they do. Help us get one step closer to finally saying there is a cure for Multiple Sclerosis!
Multiple sclerosis is a disease that impacts the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves, which make up the central nervous system and controls everything we do. The exact cause of MS is unknown, but we do know that something triggers the immune system to attack the CNS. The resulting damage to myelin, the protective layer insulating wire-like nerve fibers, disrupts signals to and from the brain. This interruption of communication signals causes unpredictable symptoms such as numbness, tingling, mood changes, memory problems, pain, fatigue, blindness and/or paralysis. Everyone’s experience with MS is different and these losses may be temporary or long lasting.

Aired March 3, 2024: Autism affects about 1 in 36 kids in the US. It's a serious developmental disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact. Usually, it's diagnosed at a very young age. The range and severity of symptoms is different for each person. Katy Jackson is a Mom from Redondo Beach, who started the Local Autism Warriors Foundation in honor of her son Hendrix, and they are having a big benefit March 30th in Redondo that she wanted to tell us all about. In this podcast, Lisa Foxx talks to Katy about how her organization helps Moms and families like hers navigate the extra challenging waters of having a child with autism. Common symptoms include difficulty with communication, difficulty with social interactions, obsessive interests, and repetitive behaviors. But early recognition, as well as behavioral, educational, and family therapies can help reduce symptoms and support development and learning. They are having a big fundraiser with Surfer's Healing Foundation, who Katy has found to be a GREAT source of comfort for her autistic son 🙂
Benefit info: They are gathering at the Redondo Beach Elks Lodge #1378, located on Esplanade in beautiful Redondo Beach, CA. Living in the South Bay we understand the importance of the ocean and the benefits of getting in the water. Through this we event we plan to spread awareness about how Surfer's Healing Foundation has helped so many on the spectrum and continues to do so. They are so grateful IZZY PASKOWITZ, founder of Surfer's Healing Foundation, will be attending this event so be sure to say hi! Come enjoy a cocktail hour, dinner, live music, silent auction, and more March 30th in Redondo. All the info is here
Many children with autism struggle with sensory overload; in other words, simple sensations can overwhelm them. The weightlessness and rhythms of the ocean offer a therapeutic experience, a respite from the constant assault on their senses. Surfers Healing is the original surf camp for children with autism, and they've been serving the community since 1996. Attending our camps positively impacts children with autism; the experience helps instill confidence and calm. Yet over the years we've seen that Surfers Healing also has a profound impact on parents. Autism parents are always hearing about what their children cannot do. But at a Surfers Healing camp, it's all about what their kids can do. In the words of one volunteer, “For parents to see their kid up on a surfboard … sometimes, it's nothing less than a miracle.”

H.O.W. founder Sheila Morovati successfully spearheaded the historic ban on single-use plastic straws and cutlery in the City of Malibu. Sheila realized that an iconic beach city like Malibu would create the ripple effect that was so necessary to create change. Malibu was the first city to make such a ban go into effect and the number of cities and countries that followed suit is awe-inspiring. Since then, Sheila created numerous campaigns that have effected change such as #CutOutCutlery, which successfully convinced Uber Eats, Postmates, Doordash and Grubhub to change the default setting in their applications so that users only receive plastic cutlery upon request. This campaign is ongoing. Sheila also founded a non-profit called, crayoncollection.org, which has grown to become a tremendous success with a presence in all 50 states and 9 countries. Her idea was to redirect would-have-been-trashed crayons from restaurants and well served communities and distribute them, along with free art education curricula, to Title 1 Schools and Head Start Centers within 5 miles of the donor. Restaurants throw away over 150 million crayons per year, which do not decompose as they are made of paraffin wax. In addition, Sheila felt this behavior was subliminally teaching, our children, that a throw-away culture is acceptable. Since inception, Crayon Collection has redirected over 20 million crayons from landfill and continues to set a new norm throughout society, that still-good crayons are not trash.
It's ALWAYS a good time to talk about ways to improve our environment and planet as a whole, but with the holidays and holiday parties here...what better time to prepare to NOT be wasteful. The non-profit organization Habits of Waste is ALL about spreading that message YEAR-ROUND as they are focused on changing people's daily habits by encouraging everyone to rethink wasteful behavior. Their mission: Cleaning up the planet one “habit of waste” at a time. They’ve got some valuable tips and campaigns in place that are already making a difference, but they’ll be even MORE IMPACTFUL if more of us jump on board to FUEL REAL CHANGE by being less wasteful...as the U.S. produces 268 million tons of waste — 140 million going into landfills — each year, with the average American tossing 4.5 pounds of trash per day.

Lisa Foxx interviewed Genevieve Riutort, the President & CEO of the Westside Food Bank

An estimated 6.7 million Americans aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's in 2023. That’s 1 in 9 people...for a lot of us, that’s our parents, our Grandparents and sadly maybe US one day. Thankfully we have the Alzheimer’s Association...the leading voluntary group offering care, support, advocacy and research. There is A LOT being done to fight Alzheimer's & Dementia including a big fundraising Walk Sat 10/28th in downtown LA Hosted by our friend Lynette Romero.

Aired September 17, 2023: EJ interviewed Jace Campbell about the ERTC. The ERTC was introduced in the CARES Act in 2020 as a way of supporting businesses who kept employees on the payroll despite financial hardships of the pandemic and oppressive governmental orders. This program seemed too good to be true at first, and so I would explain it to clients like this: "If you had financial hardship during the pandemic or your business was impacted by governmental orders, but you kept employees on your payroll and out of the unemployment lines, the government was providing cash to help soften your financial impact."
The maximum an employer could receive in 2020 was $5,000 per employee, so this financially less costly to the government than if those employees had ended up claiming unemployment. In 2021 the cash refunds increased to $7,000 per employee per quarter; however, many of the governmental orders began lifting and businesses were not directly impacted to the same degree, so fewer businesses qualified in 2021.
Aired September 17, 2023: In honor of September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Sgt. Pepperoni’s is teaming up with Julian’s LEGO® Corner to raise funds and collect LEGO® sets for patients at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). Created in memory of CHOC patient Julian Dunn, Julian’s LEGO® Corner provides a creative outlet for children and teens undergoing treatment for serious illnesses or injuries at CHOC. More than $150,000 has been raised for the unique project through partnerships with Sgt. Pepperoni’s and other generous donors since its start in 2013. Lisa Foxx chats with Sgt Pepp co-owners Stan Fraiser and Jeff Roberts all about this annual event that brings so many together and does so much for those kids in the hospital 🙂 People can contribute through the gift of a new LEGO® set, making a cash donation, and purchasing select menu items at Sgt. Pepperoni’s Newport Beach, Aliso Viejo, and Irvine locations. All proceeds from Sgt. Pepperoni’s “Pizza of the Month,” Grandpa’s Pie, and all house-made desserts will directly support Julian’s LEGO® Corner.
While 2023 marks the ninth annual fundraising effort for Sgt. Pepperoni’s, the Roberts family’s connection to the Dunns goes back nearly 15 years. The two families have been friends and neighbors, with Julian and Roberts’ daughter Lauren attending Mariners Elementary School together, as Julian battled through treatment and hospitalizations. When Julian was diagnosed with brain cancer in kindergarten, 5-year-old Lauren opened a lemonade stand in support of her friend, eventually raising more than $1,500. She continued to host lemonade stands growing up, and later founded Sweet Things For A Sweet Cause, a collection of desserts benefiting Julian’s LEGO® Corner, available for purchase year-round at Sgt. Pepperoni’s. Now a college sophomore, Lauren helped inspire the Sgt. Pepperoni’s owner families to build upon her efforts with their own fundraiser. Their campaign commemorates Julian’s strength, kindness, and creativity, as well as his affinity for something that stimulated his mind and helped him pass the time during treatment: building LEGO® sets.
Sgt. Pepperoni’s Pizza Store has three locations in Orange County, Calif. For more information visit www.SgtPepps.com.
