It's been a long time since I updated with a video on the #CryptoClassAction Law Suit which @apshamilton @jpbliberty has been fighting in Australia for years now.
We're heading into a hearing for "leave to appeal" (i.e. permission to appeal) and (finally) about our no adverse costs order which we've been trying to have heard since the very beginning. This is the order which Australian law allows a court to decide that a case on competition law is important to many people and should be heard without the side bringing the case being liable for the other side's costs if they lose. Andrew's case seems to be a perfect fit for this law.
In advance of that, Andrew received a settlement offer from both Facebook/Meta and Google. In turn, today, Andrew has proposed that he will issue a counter offer.
In this video I give a background explanation of what's going on here and I hope this helps demystify some of the language here.
The long and the short of it is Google and Facebook are trying to crush Andrew with legal bills and hoping that offering to let him off paying for their massive legal teams will buy him off whilst offering nothing for our class members.
Andrew is not accepting that and if they want him to stop the case they'll have to cease banning crypto advertising and at least partially make good on the damages they caused to those who signed up for our class.

I used to be a management consultant working on large accounting systems in the UK including work for various parts of the UK Government.
So I have some thoughts on the UK's Post Office and Fujitsu Horizon scandal and catastrophe.
An accounting system which falsely accused upstanding and innocent people of dishonesty was a catastrophe in the UK. And I can fully understand the way it happened.
I don't talk about this in the video, but a public ledger system like Hive would prevent this kind of crap. Which is why Government will always hate what we do here.

I was invited to explain Podcasting 2.0 and the Value for Value system to the crowd at the Bitcoin Embassy in Tel Aviv. It was a dark and stormy Christmas Day night (and also the 8th and final night of Hannukah).
The Bitcoin Embassy in Tel Aviv pulls in a pretty good crowd though the torrential rain did rather dampen the turn out a bit.
I covered the history of Podcasting, the Value for Value V4V model and then a little bit of Podping and the future of Podcasting 2.0. I think I mentioned Hive but I got away with it (largely).

Adam Curry, the Podfather, the co-inventor of the tech stack which still runs podcasting to this day, is talking about the background notification system I architected and built on top of Hive. The system is called @podping.
I was funded by the DHF for that which I am hugely grateful. We're working on a new release right now which adds Live notifications. All of this is becoming the plumbing of the internet,

This was an excellent question and an excellent answer from the Ranking member of the House Financial Services committee Patrick McHenry. This is the same committee which asked my question about banning of crypto adverts amost 2 years ago.

Giving an excellent answer to the question "What is Web 3.0?" is the CEO of the Bitfury Group, Brian P. Brooks. Bitfury is "the leading full service bitcoin and blockchain technology company".
The answer glosses over the vast extraction and concentration of wealth which companies like Google and Facebook have achieved by monetising the work, attention and personal information of all of us over the last two decades.

Here it is! My presentation from HiveFest 6 last night. What an amazing experience the whole event was and what a huge achievement for @roelandp and everyone who worked on making @hivefest into what it has become. I do want to attend a real life HiveFest one day but the experience of presenting in VR is as close to real as I've ever felt.

The QR codes to pay out sats have been used already but if you follow the steps on the penultimate slide you can get 1033 sats into any Lightning wallet that allows you to create an invoice of that amount. It's limited to 1 use per Hive address and won't last forever.
Some thoughts on VR presenting with the Oculus Quest 2 headset Comfort First of all I am not a fan of my kids' headset. I've never felt comfortable with it. I've always struggled wearing glasses inside the helmet so this time I bought daily disposable contacts which definitely helped with comfort. My only problem is they don't replace my varifocals so while I'm wearing the contacts I can barely use my phone or even my desktop computer.
I'll just mention but not go into details: I'm not thrilled that this device is owned and sold by Facebook, and if you've followed my involvement with @jpbliberty you'll know why.
Hands Having watched the video now I realise that sitting down in a chair with arm rests gave my in VR character a very funny stance. That wasn't such a good idea.
Motion The reason I was sitting down was to avoid bumping into things in my office. It's not very big but I probably should have stood up to present. The act of swivelling on my chair, however, was very useful because this doesn't make me feel ill. Activating a turn or a movement with the joysticks on the controllers is very touchy for me and not a pleasant experience so I avoided it as much as I could.
Presentation Once you're on stage and lookin up at the people it really is a good analog to a real presentation. Your slides appear in the air next to you showing the present and next slide and with a clicker to advance. It's magical. You can move this virtual screen around and look around the audience. The audience can wave their hands or emit a stream of emojis above them. Surreal but it does amount to real feedback of a type you just don't get speaking into a Zoom call for example.
Audio quality I was blown away by the sound quality from this Oculus headset. While using it you hear sounds in an impressive 3D way from little speakers on the sides directly next to your ears. It's not in or over your ears, but playing right into them.
The quality of the microphone and my voice in the recorded livestream is astonishing. Very clean and not much different from the big Yeti microphone I use on my desk from time to time.
Questions from the Audience This also works surprisingly well and is just an already good experience.

Not long after @apshamilton sued Facebook and Google for cartel behaviour in Australia, Epic sued Apple and Google on different but related areas of Australian law.
That case was heard, stayed (put on hold and sent to California) and has now had an appeal which might bring it back to Australia.
At the same time, our own #CryptoClassAction has returned to court with a new judge and things are moving again, thankfully!

I'm proposing a solution to a global problem for the entire independent podcasting industry with Hive in the middle: a reliable way for podcast hosting companies to announce new episodes. This is the first half of the Podcasting 2.0 Dev meeting from last night where I presented my very rudimentary Python to a team of non-Hive and non-blockchain Devs.
Whenever a podcast host has a podcast that updates, they send a custom json to Hive. Anyone can then run the corresponding watcher program that just looks for custom JSONs with the right ID and from the allowed list of podcast host announcers. Job done. They were talking about building some massive complex web of servers and DNS failover and everything and I showed them 20 lines of python that are basically the whole thing!
We're going to try a pilot out probably with @podcastindex fronting the Hive bit with an API but the goal will be to get some pretty serious podcast hosting companies (in the level blow Spotify but maybe even up to them) using this signaling system which will cut down massively on the RSS traffic but still be decentralised.
