Misguided fishing touches on the lives and businesses of two longtime inshore fishing guides from the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Capts. Dave Lusk and Donnie D never lose sight that they have one of the best jobs a fishing junky can have. They have stories abound to tell, products to discuss and guests to humble. All of this with a touch of humor and viewed through a lens of realism. At times, we are all Misguided.
Commercial long line fishing is something I know nothing about.This is the first time I've really stepped out of my comfort zone and talked about something I am so profoundly ignorant about Capt Cullen Malarney of the Miss Kayleigh joins Jack and I to discuss long lining commercial fishing. . Cullen succinctly explains long line fishing and had a great story to lead us off. Make sure your crew has no warrants and make sure you have enough fuel!

In this episode of the Misguided Fishing Podcast; Capt David Daniels is a guy who knows how to do stuff. Not only does he run a successful charter operation out of Oregon Inlet he also is the guy you call when something isn't right with your boat. Dave has spent years in the cockpit, at the helm, and in the boat yard rebuilding motors and other hard to do expensive stuff. Sometimes I just shake my head when guys talk because they are so much more knowledgeable than me. This is one of those times.
Misguided Saltwater Fishing Podcast brings Capt Charles Perry to the studio for ep 3.12. A podcast by nature is about talking the talk. CP walks the walk and has the book and DVD to prove it. To say we felt like we were in over our heads talking to him is an understatement. I don't believe there is anything we have done that he hasn't done more times and definitely better. By far one of our favorite episodes we have produced.

Misguided Fishing episode 3.11 features Capt Dave Lusk of Salt Minded Fishing. Yes, the prodigal son has returned. Dave and I, Donnie D, had an idea a few years ago. Neither one of us had a clue had to film or produce a podcast but we went with it anyway. It has been nothing but fun. Dave got really busy last year and decided to step back and let somebody else jump to the other seat so I was so stoked when he escaped from the Russian Gulag and made an appearance with us even before going home and getting his toes amputated due to frostbite. (if you fish with him please don't stare at his feet) Enjoy this one. Out of the three of us in this episode he is the least dumbest ass there is.

Misguided Saltwater Fishing Podcast EP 3.10 welcomes Capt Bobby Smith, proprietor of Savage Inlet Oysters. Bobby has been fishing out of the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center since 1985. To say he is a waterman is an understatement. Bobby not only owns and operates the Fishing Fool, an inshore charter boat, but also has an oyster growing operation as well. There are not many people that can say they spend more time on the water than Bobby Smith. Savage Inlet Oysters have quickly become the standard for oysters on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Misguided Fishing Podcast EP 3.9 brings back Capt Travis Kemp to discuss cobia fishing in the Chesapeake Bay, we tell a story a story about one of our favorites, and Jack manages to offend us with his farts. Real Mature.

Misguided Fishing podcast focuses on saltwater fishing out of Oregon Inlet North Carolina. On this episode of Misguided Fishing Podcast Capt Dickie Harris of Fintastic Sportfishing joins us. Since Jack was Dickie's longtime mate he was on pretty good behavior and didn't hog the show. Fortunately, Dickie told us stories from old to new but saved one about Jack to keep him in line. Dickie has been fishing out of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center for 45 yrs. A lot of people I knew didn't even make it to 45 much less work the same job. Dickie is a veteran of the sportfishing community and has the credibility to back it up.

Misguided Fishing welcomes Capt Harry Merkalis. The guy has created a niche on the Outer Banks of NC. He has proven that guiding fly fishers to skinny water species such as reds and specks can be done in one of the windiest places on the East Coast. Harry guides trips out of motorized kayaks, on foot wading, and out of his flats skiff. One of the most interesting and entertaining guests we have had on Misguided Fishing. Harry is going hard at the age of 65 and is proving that an old dog can teach new tricks.
Misguided Fishing 3.5.2 brings the Drum Bum back to the studio for another not so serious talk regarding our fishing world. We had to shoot this one twice and edit it three times but we will to be denied. The Drum Bum needs to be heard.

Capt Joey Belton joins Jack and I this week on Misguided Fishing Podcsast. Once again, two offshore guys discuss what it takes to be an offshore hero fisherman. I occasionally get to chime in. I've know Joey for a long time and it has been a pleasure to watch him go from a first time in the cockpit mate to running one of the "heavy hitter" boats that fish in the Oregon Inlet Fleet. The guy is full of knowledge and readily admits he learns everyday on the water.

Gary Hurley of the Fisherman's Post is a busy dude. He started, in 2003, a free weekly paper for fishermen by fishermen. Since then he has added fishing schools, paid fishing reports, fishing tournaments, and a podcast. All while continuing to teach at his local college and still fish a bunch. Always interesting and busy, Gary is an everyman for this century.

Our guest for Ep 18 is Keith Tongier, aka The Drum Bum, of TW's Tackle in Kitty Hawk, NC. The Drum Bum is one of the most knowledgeable guys we know when it comes to fishing. He always has his finger on the pulse of what is biting and where. What we did not know is that Keith is also one of the funniest guys we know. You will have to forgive the editing in this one. We were slapping the table while laughing and the mics were peaking constantly. We finally gave up trying to keep him on point. Capt Bud Bishop is what is known as a "Guide's Guide." Some guys just have a natural aptitude for finding and catching. Bud is one of these. Vicarious Charters specializes in spearfishing charters primarily as well as the traditional hook and line guided experience. We had a great guest: 13 yr old Brown Gaddy. The young man has most likely caught more billfish than Dave and I combined. He, and his twin brother Charles, are tournament tested and not only participants but winners.Unfortunately, this is one of those that is probably better suited for audio rather than video. Upon editing I found our SD card was corrupted and only recorded 2:40 of video. The audio was fine but the video stopped. Oh well, such is life in the never ending anxiety of video production.

This week the misguided crew talk to Daniel B. Daniel, an Outer Banks native got his first job guiding in Alaska. Daniel talks about his experience there, his future plans to launch his own business next summer, and what its like to get your curtains knocked out crossing the bar at Oregon Inlet.
The Misguided crew welcomes Capt Lee Johnson to the show. Lee is a skilled craftsman who, instead of buying a factory boat and settling, decided he would build his own custom rig. Donnie has a hard time understanding how a boat floats much less how somebody builds one.
Capt Sarah drops flyfishing knowledge on a couple of misguided noobs. Not to let off easy; we get Sarah to explain to us how not to load a boat onto a trailer. Also, Donnie D talks about big guns, small cash and black suburbans.
The misguided guides discuss the hardware needed to be in the fishing business. At some point they run out of things to say and just start winging it.
