He and I were able to talk about what the comedy scene was like in Dc when he started and what it’s grown into as well as where it will eventually grow. Dc is home to tons of heavy hitters and we name drop a few of them on here, but give it a listen and I hope you enjoy! Be sure to follow Ross on Instagram at @rossbenwah_ and as always follow @comedybuildupsandbreakdowns and @nickdeezcomedy to keep up with everything I’ve got going on!

Boy oh boy! We’re back baby! It’s been a hot minute but it’s about time we brought it back. Today’s guest is one of my absolute favorite people in the whole world Addison Hall. Addison is a Hampton Roads based comic who’s style is more of a comedic storytelling type of style. So a lot of his jokes are more long form stories about crazy things that have happened in his life. Howdy boys and girls on this episode I got to hangout with my good friend Dylan Vattelana and boy lemme tell ya, it was a doozy!

Dylan is a regular at not only the Richmond and Virginia Beach Funny Bone but multiple Funny Bone clubs across the country! He has been spending the majority of the time that I’ve known him traveling all over the east coast and then some just doing whatever he can to get his name out there! Dylan was one of the first people I met in Richmond when I started so it was real cool to not only sit down with him for this episode but to get him on the Wicked Wednesday show at Cozzy’s Comedy Club here in Newport News!

Howdy boys and girls! This episode was one hell of a journey for sure and man oh man, lemme tell ya! My buddy Beau Troxclair and I got to hangout and talk hella comedy not once not twice but maybe even three times! And I wouldn’t have had it any other way, it was a much needed hangout to send this dude off to London!

Beau has been doing comedy for about 6 years now and he has shared the stage with plenty of people high and low! He has actually just taken literally the biggest leap in not only his life but his comedy career by moving all the way to London! I gotta tell you guys normally I would be super bummed to see a friend leave but I feel like in Beau’s case this is the perfect move for him and I’m beyond excited for him!

Howdy boys and girls! This episode was a blast, I got to hangout with the one and only Josh Blue. It was cool getting to hangout with him in between shows at the Funny Bone during a weekend full of shows!

If you are not familiar with Josh, Josh is the winner of season four of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Josh was easily the fan favorite of his season(or maybe that’s just my opinion....he was my favorite on that season). Josh is a father of two and lives with cerebral palsy he is also a former member of the U.S. Paralympic soccer team! Tons of his material comes from his life experiences with a direct and to the punch twist. When it comes to “trimming the fat” in joke writing Josh’s name is one of the names that always comes to my mind, he has an amazing ability to get to a strong punch by using minimal words to get there.

Josh can be found on social media at @joshbluecomedy

Howdy boys and girls! This episode was a blast, I got to sit down and rehash some of the best moments of these episodes with some of the best people I know! This is the big 20th episode and I wanted to do something fun while also including a quick little piece giving props to my buddy Addison Hall who is not only a huge fan of the show but he is an all around good dude and it reflects with how hard he’s trying to get better and build himself as a comedian.

I was at a mic with Addison recently where he had a pretty hot set so I decided to use his opener from that set on this episode because I think it’s a fun joke with a lot of potential!

Howdy boys and girls! This episode was a blast, I got to hangout with my buddy Alex Castagne and talk about comedy and content, we were riffin and raffin and it was a lot of fun getting to hangout with him at Cozzy’s Comedy Club(Newport News, Va.) he and I got to hangout and record this episode before I had Alex headline my show at Cozzy’s(Wick Wednesday’s) it was a great feeling to be able to give my friend an opportunity to stretch and do 30 minutes in front of a good crowd and he did great!

Alex is no stranger to the Richmond comedy scene as well as the Charlottesville comedy scene! He’s a two time winner of the Clash of the Comics at the Richmond Funny Bone! The joke Alex brought in for this episode is a joke that he’s been doing for a while now about mobile homes and how AWESOME they are! It was one of the first jokes I remember hearing him tell when I started doing comedy in Richmond!

You can find Alex all over town slangin jokes...but you can also find him on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter at @alexcastagne

Howdy boys and girls! This episode was a blast, I got to hangout with my buddy Jesse Jarvis and talk about comedy! It was a lot of fun getting to hangout with him at Cozzy’s Comedy Club(Newport News, Va.) he and I got to hangout after he finished headlining Sunday Funnies a show hosted by our good friend Luhray!

Jesse is no stranger to the Richmond comedy scene, he is the host of Leprecomedy at McCormack’s Irish pub in the Shockoe Bottom area of downtown Richmond! The joke Jesse brought in for this episode is a joke that he’s been working on lately about children on leashes, I heard him do it on the show and was real glad that he brought in a newer bit that he likes and I’d real excited to be working on!

You can catch Jesse every 2nd and 4th Wednesday at McCormak’s but you can also find him all over Richmond including the Richmond Funny Bone! Find Jesse on Instagram @jesseleejarvis and Jesse Jarvis on Facebook!

Howdy boys and girls! So I’m gonna keep it short and sweet for this one! On this episode I wanted to just recap my first year in comedy and say thank you to everyone that I’ve met along the way!

This episode was basically a way for me to thank all the friends I’ve made and everyone that I’ve met so far. It’s a great feeling to finally feel like a part of something bigger than myself. I have made some really great friends and been able to share the stage with some amazing people. Being able to get on stage at actual comedy clubs, being able to travel and do comedy, just being hungry enough to go after it all feels dope! So to everyone I have met so far in doing this and all of my friends, from everyone that’s been to a show or let me be on a show with them or everyone that has been on the podcast, I truly want to say thank you, I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the help from each of you!

For this episode I brought in a couple of newer jokes that I’ve been working on lately that I really like, so I hope you guys enjoy them!

Howdy boys and girls! On this episode I got to hangout with my buddy Derek Williams and talk about comedy and his personal experiences with life among other things. The bit we went over was about Derek’s sister who happens to be a lesbian, the bit is about how other girls would eat ice cream in school versus how she ate ice cream. It was a blast having him on the podcast and it was really cool getting to hangout, especially because we were both still riding the high from the show that we had just finished at the Funny Bone(Geeks Night of Comedy @VB Funny Bone)

Derek is no stranger to the comedy scene in the DMV area, he is a regular at the funny bone and travels all around, he also does a lot with multiple comic conventions in the area! Derek has a desire to hone his craft when it comes to not just his comedy but his ability to do voices. Derek expressed that he is more than just “the voice guy” so give him credit for who he is and what he does! He is the co-host of the Geeks Night of Comedy with our friend and fellow comedian Sid Bridge! If you’re ever in the area go check it out!

Howdy boys and girls! This episode was a hot one if I do say so myself! I got to hangout with my buddy Paige Campbell! On this episode Paige and I talked about growing up religious, Paige comes from a devout Baptist family and funny story about good ol’ Nick Deez my parents were both raised Catholic and when I was a kid my mom became a Jehovah’s Witness! Look how far we’ve fallen baby.

Paige is no stranger to shows and how they work. Paige is a seasoned 5 year vet(basically 5 year) and he’s made some cool splashes along the way. He’s also gotten to work with Mark Normand who I feel is one of the strongest guys in comedy right now! Paige gets up all around the Richmond/Charlottesville area so please go show him some support! Paige can be found on twitter and instagram @unclepaige and at Paige Campbell on Facebook.

Also!!!! Paige and I talked about it on the episode but here is the link to his YouTube channel.

Howdy boys and girls! This episode was a blast, I got to hangout with the super Cody Woods! He has appeared on Hulu, Season 3 of Comedy Central’s Hart of the City, The Comedy Shaq Network, as well as the Emmy nominated show, Mind Field. He has wanted to be a comedian since he was a kid. Coming from a bleak upbringing with a single mother in a trailer, he frequently switched schools while often finding himself being the ethnic minority in his classes and used his humor to win friends and prevent bullying. Over the years Cody has opened for Dave Attell, Paul Mooney, Tom Segura, Bruce Bruce, Charlie Murphy, Steve O, Todd Glass, and many more. In 2014 he toured for the USO entertaining the troops in Japan as well as the NACA college circuit. In 2015 he was a finalist in the Cabo San Lucas Comedy Festival. Cody continues to tour 36 weeks out of the year and is set for his Comedy Central debut in the winter of 2019.

Howdy boys and girls! On this episode I got to hangout with my buddy Rick Bruner who is the general manager of the Virginia Beach Funny Bone. It was a lot of fun talking to him and picking his brain on everything.

This episode we talked about a lot of different aspects of comedy, not just the performing aspect but the business side of things. We talked about what it has been like for Rick to watch this business change, progress, and evolve. This episode was great because it was really cool to watch and hear Rick retell and relive some of the best moments that he has been able to witness in the 17 years that he’s been involved in comedy.

If you are a comedy fan, or a comedian that is aspiring to be more than just an open mic comic....this is the episode for you guys. I have done 13 episodes now and the goal of this podcast has and always will be to bring comedy to people that genuinely want it! I want to help people in whatever way I can, and I want to see people grow, and I know from the outside looking in these episodes and this one in particular are full of helpful hints and things I think that people could genuinely grow from hearing! Ridley has been doing comedy for about 5 years now, and the dude is a machine when it comes to the regular open mic circuit here. On this episode I went over bits from some of the best and most confident people in the business(in my opinion). The comics on this episode not only embody confidence in material that is considered “taboo” or that would require a level of commitment to pull off, but these comics also each fully embody their stage presence.

The comics clips featured on this episode are.....

Eddie Murphy(Delirious) Dave Chappelle(Equanimity) Tracy Morgan(Staying Alive) Tom Segura(Disgraceful) Ari Shaffir(Double Negative)

If you haven’t watched/listened to these specials DO YOURSELF A FAVOR!

This episode was recorded at the Virginia Beach funny bone on New Year’s Eve after Godfrey had one hell of a show! I highly recommend if you’ve never seen him and he comes to your city/town/whatever that you get your life together and go see him!

Godfrey has decades worth of standup as well as acting under his belt, he really is a chameleon when it comes to becoming multiple people in his act! And not only does he nail every impression but he has a natural talent of being able to seamlessly transition between multiple characters, actouts, and voices over multiple bits but he does it with finesse every time. When I asked him about it, he said his goal has and always will be to have material to backup the characters and vice versa. He really is a good person to watch just to absorb and learn from!

Godfrey is a regular at the world famous Comedy Cellar so I figured why not use a bit from a show he recently did there!

I hope you guys enjoy this episode, because it was honestly a real treat to have him on the show!

Also I was lucky enough to get a video of the majority of this episode so I will be posting that on my own YouTube channel and will be including the link here below once it is uploaded!
