What if lasting transformation wasn't about making one giant leap—but about making one small decision today?

In Episode 35 of The Beard Winner Podcast, Darin explores the power of becoming one percent better every single day. Real growth isn't found in overnight success or dramatic life changes. It's built through the quiet, consistent choices we make when no one else is watching.

From getting out of a warm bed when comfort tells you to stay put, to choosing prayer before scrolling social media, reading one more chapter, lifting a little heavier, or taking one more step outside your comfort zone, every small decision helps shape the person you're becoming.

Drawing from personal experiences, lessons learned through seasons of change, and biblical wisdom, Darin reflects on why hardship doesn't have to stop our growth. While nature pauses during the winter months, our spiritual, emotional, and personal development can continue through every season of life—even the difficult ones.

In this episode, you'll discover:

  • Why becoming just 1% better each day creates lasting transformation.
  • How to leave unhealthy habits behind so a stronger version of yourself can grow.
  • The importance of discipline without losing compassion, kindness, or humility.
  • Why comfort is often the biggest obstacle to personal growth.
  • How creating new habits is like trampling a new path through tall grass.
  • The connection between faith, resilience, and embracing life's difficult seasons.
  • How asking "What's now?" can help you overcome anxiety about the future.
  • Why growth isn't about perfection—it's about consistent progress.

Inspired by Amos 3:3 and Colossians 3:13, this episode also explores the importance of surrounding yourself with people who encourage growth, share your values, and extend grace as you continue becoming the person God created you to be.

Whether you're rebuilding after heartbreak, pursuing better physical health, strengthening your faith, overcoming anxiety, or simply trying to become the best version of yourself, this conversation will encourage you to keep moving forward—one intentional choice at a time.

You don't have to change your entire life today.

You just have to become one percent better than you were yesterday.

Because growth isn't loud.

It's consistent.

And the person you'll become tomorrow is shaped by the decisions you make today.

If this episode encouraged you, please subscribe, leave a five-star review, and share it with someone who's ready to embrace growth, overcome fear, and keep moving forward one percent at a time.

One decision. One day. One percent better.

What happens when you stop asking, "What's next?" and start asking, "What's now?"

In this deeply personal episode of The Beard Winner Podcast, Darin shares the powerful lessons that emerged from a recent ketamine-assisted therapy session an experience that brought clarity, peace, and a renewed perspective on healing, faith, and personal growth.

Through vivid imagery of flowing rivers, galaxies, light, and water, Darin explores what it means to surrender control, release the weight of past relationships, and trust that even life's greatest obstacles can be navigated one step at a time.

This isn't an episode about ketamine therapy. It's an episode about what happens when we become still enough to listen.

Listeners will hear reflections on:

  • Why anxiety keeps us chasing tomorrow while peace is found in today.
  • The life-changing question: "What's now?"
  • Letting go of the need to control every outcome.
  • Seeing ourselves, and others, as complex, beautiful universes worthy of grace.
  • How curiosity creates growth while certainty often creates fear.
  • Trusting God through seasons of uncertainty and finding comfort in surrender.
  • Why water and light always find a way,and why we can too.

Whether you're navigating heartbreak, anxiety, depression, uncertainty, or simply searching for a deeper sense of purpose, this episode offers encouragement to embrace the present moment with faith, resilience, and hope.

Healing isn't about having every answer.

It's about learning to trust the journey.

In this episode:* Men's mental health * Anxiety and living in the present * Personal growth and emotional resilience * Faith, surrender, and trusting God * Healing after a difficult relationship * Ketamine therapy reflections * Curiosity over control * Finding peace through acceptance * The Beard Winner Podcast

If this episode encouraged you, please subscribe, leave a review, and share it with someone who could use a reminder that they don't have to carry the weight of the world alone.

Because like water...

Like light...

You'll find a way.

Sometimes life places us exactly where we're meant to be—and we don't realize it until later.

In Episode 33 of the Beard Winner Podcast, I share a deeply personal story about witnessing a car accident and the unexpected opportunity to encourage a young driver during what was likely one of the hardest moments of his life. What began as an ordinary Saturday of working out, visiting a local brewery, and spending time with friends quickly turned into a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can leave a lasting impact.

After offering the young man a ride home, I witnessed firsthand the weight of fear, regret, and uncertainty that can accompany a single mistake. Through conversation, shared life experience, and simply sitting with him in the silence, I was reminded that encouragement isn't always about having the perfect words sometimes it's simply about being present.

The following day, a church sermon on encouragement confirmed something I had been feeling ever since the accident: I was exactly where I was supposed to be. The message centered on three powerful ideas—sitting with someone, pushing them forward, and pulling them back from fear and it perfectly mirrored the events of the previous day.

This episode explores:

  • The power of encouragement during difficult moments.
  • Why being present often matters more than having the right words.
  • Lessons in compassion, grace, and serving others.
  • Mental health, anxiety, and how encouragement can change someone's outlook.
  • Faith, purpose, and recognizing divine moments in everyday life.
  • How our own mistakes can become opportunities for growth instead of defining who we are.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, searching for purpose, trying to become a better friend, parent, spouse, or simply someone who leaves the world a little better than they found it, this conversation is a reminder that your words—and sometimes your silence matter.

If this episode encourages you, please consider subscribing to the Beard Winner Podcast, leaving a review, and sharing it with someone who could use a little hope today.

Keywords: encouragement, kindness, faith, mental health, anxiety, personal growth, self-improvement, life lessons, motivation, Christian encouragement, serving others, compassion, resilience, overcoming mistakes, Beard Winner Podcast.

What if the things we call "goodbyes" are really just "see you laters?"

In Episode 32 of the Beard Winner Podcast, Darin reflects on how perspective can completely change the way we experience endings. Coming off America's 250th birthday celebration, he shares why the Fourth of July no longer represents the beginning of the end of summer, but instead serves as a reminder to stay present, embrace the weeks still ahead, and resist the anxiety of living too far into the future.

This episode explores the people who enter and leave our lives, the lessons they unknowingly leave behind, and the clarity that often comes only after the dust has settled. Sometimes relationships end. Sometimes friendships grow distant. Sometimes life simply carries people down different paths. Rather than holding onto regret or resentment, Darin reflects on choosing gratitude, wishing others well, and recognizing that every chapter helps shape who we become.

He also shares the deeply personal story of reconnecting with a longtime friend affectionately known as "Doc." After years without speaking, one phone call became a reminder that tomorrow is never guaranteed and that reaching out to the people who matter is always worth it. Their conversation became a powerful lesson in friendship, mortality, and making the most of the time we're given.

If you've ever struggled with letting go, feared change, wrestled with anxiety about the future, or wondered how to find peace after life's unexpected goodbyes, this episode offers an honest and hopeful conversation about living in the present and appreciating every season for what it is.

In this episode:

  • Why perspective changes everything.
  • Learning to live in the present instead of fearing the future.
  • The difference between a goodbye and a "see you later."
  • Finding gratitude after relationships and friendships change.
  • A heartfelt story about reconnecting with a lifelong friend on hospice.
  • Choosing hope, growth, and grace through every season of life.

Because sometimes the people we say goodbye to never truly leave us they simply become part of the story that helps us become who we're meant to be.

In this vulnerable episode of The Beard Winner Podcast, Darin explores the difficult balance between anxiety, depression, productivity, and the pressure we place on ourselves to have everything figured out.

Anxiety often lives in the future—worrying about what could happen, whether we're doing enough, and what lies ahead. Depression frequently keeps us rooted in the past—replaying mistakes, regrets, and moments we wish we could change. So how do we thread the needle between the two?

This episode dives into the challenge of staying productive and motivated without overloading ourselves to the point of burnout and anxiety. Darin shares honest reflections on mental health, finding balance, and giving ourselves permission to move forward one step at a time.

With Father's Day serving as a backdrop, the conversation also explores the quiet weight many fathers carry: Have I done enough? Will my children remember my mistakes or my love? Is the work, sacrifice, and presence we give our families enough to prepare them for life?

Whether you're navigating anxiety about the future, struggling with regrets from the past, balancing responsibilities, or simply trying to stay motivated without becoming overwhelmed, this episode offers encouragement, perspective, and hope.

Topics discussed:

• Men's mental health

• Anxiety and fear of the future

• Depression and dwelling on the past

• Productivity without burnout

• Father's Day reflections

• Parenting and legacy

• Finding balance in everyday life

• Staying motivated without becoming overwhelmed

The Beard Winner Podcast is a show about men's mental health, resilience, personal growth, and finding positivity through life's challenges.

The remainder of Fall and the Holidays passed by so swiftly, it makes it hard to not have your head spinning by the time confetti canons and fireworks go off accompanied by Happy New Year.

We cannot slow things down. We do our best to enjoy and savor the moments. Life just has a way of moving forward at its own clip. Whimsical with how long it is perceived to pass by. It can drag when waiting, but gone in an instant when reflecting upon it.

In this episode, I reflect upon the time that has elapsed and the events that unfolded since we last talked. Lessons were learned to love harder, continue making memories, keep your loved ones close, and let a higher power be in control.

Summer is behind us and fall is fully here—leaves are turning, crops are cut, and spooky season is in full swing. In this episode, I reflect on how the changing seasons can mirror our own opportunities for growth. While it’s tempting to settle into comfort and cozy routines, this time of year can also serve as a powerful reminder: change is always on the horizon.Do we get comfortable and coast? Sure—if that’s what we truly need. But if we feel the itch to grow, reflect, or shift direction, now is the time. Don’t let the eerie winds of October scare you into stagnation.

In this heartfelt pre–Fourth of July episode, I pick up where Homage to the Memories left off—shifting from quiet remembrance to fireworks, fire pits, and fleeting moments of celebration.'

I talk about making the most of June—traveling to Decorah, Iowa with my girlfriend, grilling out, sitting around the fire, and soaking in the early summer before it slips away. The Fourth always feels like a peak... and a turning point. It’s a moment of joy, but also a reminder that seasons shift quickly.

I reflect on freedom—both as a national value and a deeply personal journey—and share how I plan to celebrate this year across three days of fireworks, music, and meaning. I also explore how we can hold onto the sparks that matter, even when the sky goes dark.

If you're someone who feels a little nostalgic during the loudest week of the summer, this one’s for you.
