Ben Pearson serves as the Associate Dean of Community Engagement. Along with facilitating the chapel program, he also oversees many of the student programs offered at Corban. Pearson will explore the implications of Lent through reflections, stories and examining the words of Jesus on fasting found in Matthew 6. Come hear how Lent might offer you the opportunity to deepen your gratitude, repent, and rejoice in God's grace.
A panel of 6 notable student athletes will discuss the challenges and benefits of their roles as athletes on a Christian campus. They will be reflecting on their personal experiences and perspectives, with the intention of creating opportunities for understanding, reconciliation and community building.
Men and women were both created in God's image and He said it was "Very good!" Throughout history, however, there have been many different ideas, expectations and religious practices for the roles of men and women in the family, the church and in society. Together we will look at the spectrum of these beliefs and consider how to live into God's very good design for men and women. Jennifer Roth has been part of the pastoral staff at Salem Alliance Church for 8 years. As a communicator, Jennifer has been speaking to various Christ-centered communities for over 15 years. Jennifer is a native Oregonian who lives near Silverton with her husband of 21 years, Jeff, two of their three children, and their adorable dog, Lucy
John and his wife Betsey both graduated from Corban. Betsey was on staff at Corban as the Resident Director of Aagard. They have been married for 11 years and have two wonderful boys. John spent 12 years as a pastor at First Baptist Church of Eugene. This past June he joined the staff at Morning Star Community Church. John loves Jesus, his family, the Oregon Ducks, and the Corban Warriors.
Dr. Amit Bhatia comes to Corban University from Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL, where he previously taught courses in the Christian Ministries department as well as in the undergraduate degree program at Waupun Correctional Institution, a maximum-security prison in Waupun, WI. As a Christian from a Hindu background, Dr. Bhatia has also served as a pastor in several different multi-ethnic congregations. His cross-cultural experiences equip him well to work with inmates from all backgrounds. Dr. Bhatia is the author of Engaging Muslims & Islam: Lessons for 21st-Century American Evangelicals (Urban Loft Publishers).
Jerry Miranda is the Senior Pastor at Tabernaculo de Salem, a bilingual (Spanish and English) church in Salem. Pastor Jerry's congregation ministers to inmates in Salem and their families. Come learn about the redemptive and restorative Kingdom work happening in Salem.

Matt Maceira was rescued out of a dark lifestyle of crime and drug abuse. He now leads a ministry called “Be Bold Street Ministries” that aims to love people and spread the gospel of Jesus to the streets of Salem and around the world. Maceira is passionate about sharing the restorative and transformative power of God and reaching "the least of these" with the gospel. Dr. Trammell is an English/Communication professor and a Worship and Family Pastor at nearby Valley Baptist Church. He has co-authored 5 books and published over 100 stories, essays and devotionals. He is married to his best friend, Linda, and, together they have three sons and daughters-in-law and four grandchildren. Marty and Linda perform pre-engagement and pre-marital counseling for Corban couples and lead workshops and couples conferences. His new book, Love Lock: Creating lasting connection with the one you love encourages couples to connect more deeply with each other and with the author of Love.
Pastor Wilfred is a pastor at Mercy Church, a church plant of The Worship House, and the executive director of Mercy Child Care. With enthusiasm, he serves young children and vulnerable people living in poverty. He works to rehabilitate and empower people as they come off the streets and into a life strengthened by God's mercy. Dr. Kersey teaches biblical literature, theology, and apologetics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has been teaching theology-related classes at Corban since 2002. One of the reasons Dr. Kersey loves teaching at Corban is because of the students who "continue to amaze [him] with their curiosity, creativity, and desire to make the world a better place.”
Fischer Stewart graduated from Corban in the spring of 2017 as a ministry major. He currently serves as a director for Capernaum Young Life in Lakewood, Washington. Young Life Capernaum gives young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities the chance to experience fun and adventure, to develop fulfilling friendships and to challenge their limits while building self-esteem through club, camp and other exciting activities.

The election chapel will inform you of the candidate's goals before you vote to decide who will be next year's Student Government Association president and executive vice president. Dr. Gerry Breshears is a Professor of Theology at Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Breshears is passionate about the transforming power of the gospel, as it "brings freedom from guilt, shame, fear, and defilement before God." He has taught at numerous Bible colleges and seminaries around the world, in countries such as Lebanon, Ukraine, Netherlands, Taiwan, Poland, Canada, and the Philippines.
Corban welcomes back Michelle Schubert Claussen as the 2020 Women of Grit conference speaker. Michelle works with Pioneer Bible Translators. She is also known for her role on the television show "Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X." Her chapel message will encourage the community to live in the strength and confidence that comes from our identity in Christ.
Jordie Beuch serves as the Advocacy and Mobilization Coordinator at International Justice Mission (IJM). Every day, countless people are trafficked into slavery, as slave owners make a profit off their vulnerability. IJM is a global Christian organization with an aim to end trafficking. IJM helps rescue and restore victims, brings criminals to justice, and works to strengthen justice systems.
Dr. Anderson has taught theology at Corban for 30 years. He also works with the Corban School of Ministry’s ongoing pastoral training ministry in Cameroon, West Africa, and co-leads study tours to Israel and Egypt with Dr. Greg Trull. He has had articles published in The Journal of Spiritual Formation and Soul Care, and has been involved at various levels with the Evangelical Theological Society. He recently published the book What the Bible Says about
Dr. Noah Toly is Director of the Center for Urban Engagement and Professor of Urban Studies and Politics & International Relations. He also serves as Non-Resident Senior Fellow for Global Cities at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and teaches about cities and urbanism in the Free University of Berlin’s Center for Global Politics. Dr. Toly currently serves on the Steering Committee of the Thriving Cities Project, and is a frequent speaker on cities, urban life, and the environment.
Ronnie Brooks is a man of many hats. He currently serves as the pastor of To God Be the Glory Ministries, a local church, and is a beloved mentor to students and staff at McKay High School. Drawing on his many years of multicultural leadership experience, Pastor Brooks will help us reflect on Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy and spur us on towards gospel-centered living in a divided time.
Gyan Pantha is the founder of the Children Rescue Mission. Today, the ministry supports hundreds of Nepalese across the country by educating children, providing meals, and transforming communities with building projects. Join Pantha in chapel to hear how his ministry addresses the injustice of human sex trafficking in Nepal.
Ben Pearson serves as the Associate Dean of Community Engagement. Along with facilitating the chapel program, he also oversees many of the students programs offered at Corban. Pearson will revisit the direction of chapel for the year and explore how the visit of the Wise Men, found in Matthew 2:1-12, continues to be a reason for celebration today.

DJ Vincent founded the Salem Missional Community Network; which has planted, coached and cultivated a dozen unique disciple-making churches in the past 15 years. DJ also works at the Salem Leadership Foundation as the South Area Lightning Rod where he equips local churches to engage in neighborhood focused missional initiatives. DJ's passion and expertise are in poverty awareness education and developing advocates for youth and adults experiencing homelessness.
Dr. Dale Johnson is the Executive Director of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC) and serves on faculty at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Johnson served in pastoral ministry for seven years in Macclenny, FL, before completing his Ph.D. in Biblical Counseling at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He now serves as Associate Professor of Biblical Counseling at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he is also the Director of Counseling Programs. Dr. Johnson is the host of ACBC’s “Truth in Love” podcast..
The public reading of Scripture is a valuable tradition practiced for thousands of years. For the November SGA (Student Government Association) chapel, Corban community members will be reading through the book of Colossians.
Dr. Leroy Goertzen is a Professor of Christian Ministry and Leadership and directs Corban’s Doctor of Ministry and Kairos programs. Prior to coming to Corban, Dr. Goertzen spent 30 years in church ministry as a Youth Pastor, Worship & Music Director and Lead Pastor. He loves Jesus and His Church and is committed to equipping the next generation to do the same.
Iral and Gwen Barrett are friends of Corban and longtime leaders in the Salem community and Young Life. They are passionate about young people coming to know Christ, and even assisted in the beginnings of the Washington Family Ranch Young Life camp in Antelope, OR. The Barrett's will share about seeking after the Kingdom of God.
Ruthie was an accomplished pianist in 1983 when she learned that she would need brain surgery to remove a bleeding tumor. "Although I learned to walk again with a brace, I never regained the use of my left arm," Ruthie learned that the Lord could restore her joy and many other aspects of her life. Cory Spangler (Lead Pastor) and Becca Riddle (Women's Pastor), from Court Street Christian Church, are both Corban alumni and lifelong Salem residents. They will bring a message to our community focused on God's creation, and why it is important for Christians to have a proper view of their relationship to it.
Experiencing worship from other cultures is a powerful expression of community. This week, groups of Corban international students will lead our campus in a time of music and dance, the reading of Scripture, and sharing testimonies of God's faithfulness.

Joseph Elkins serves as the newly appointed SGA Student Chaplain. He is "excited to encourage fellow students in their faith journey and communicate the student body’s spiritual needs to the university administration." Alejandra Ortiz is a regional director for Compañerismo Estudiantil (“Student Fellowship”), a college ministry in México that serves communities of staff and students in the Northwest of the country. Alejandra and her husband have recently started a home church in Tijuana where they are bridge builders between churches, students, and local NGOs..
Jason Bunse is the Athey Creek Salem campus pastor. He was born and raised in Salem, his life was transformed by Jesus while in jail in 2004. He lived out an entire prison term ministering the word to others. Fellow inmates would often call Jason, Pastor Bunse. He found Athey Creek Christian Fellowship through a radio ministry during this time. Jesus changed his life and he now has a heart to bring the Good News of the gospel to the people of Salem.

Stephen Andersen serves as the lead pastor at Liberty Christian Church in Salem. Andersen grew up in West Salem, but his life was changed forever when he was discipled at the age of 19. From that point he said "I pursued my faith in Jesus and never turned back." Pastor Andersen loves meeting people where they are, and teaching them about the redemption found in the gospel.

Dr. Preston Sprinkle is a New Testament and Early Judaism scholar and a New York Times bestselling author who has written several books, including People to Be Loved: Why Homosexuality is Not Just an Issue. He currently serves as the president of the Center for Faith, Sexuality & Gender, an organization focused on helping Christians engage in questions about faith, sexuality, and gender with theological faithfulness and courageous love. Friday after chapel students can eat lunch with Dr. Sprinkle in the dining hall and ask questions.
Dr. Tim Baker is the senior pastor at Bethany Baptist Church in Salem, a Corban board member, and a Corban alumnus. Dr. Baker will share his pastoral heart with the community as we embark on a new year at Corban.

Dr. Cornman serves as Corban's Provost, having recently joined our campus this summer. He has brought with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in Christian Higher Education and, most importantly, a fervent heart for the Lord. Dr. Cornman's message is a timely reminder of where our help and hope are found.
On the first Friday of our first week together, we will declare in unison the greatness of our God through musical worship. Ben Pearson, Associate Dean of Community Engagement, will help set the direction for the chapel program by expanding on the university theme for the year: Take Heart. At Convocation, we dedicate the new academic year to Jesus Christ. Traditionally, this event is an annual highlight, with a procession of shofars, bagpipes, faculty in academic regalia, and a commissioning program encouraging the community to commit the upcoming efforts to the Lord. All students receive a commemorative key-chain for attending!
As the academic year ends, we invite you to join us in a final time of collective fellowship and worship. Like Dr. Nord, SGA will focus our attention on the faithfulness of God, who has provided "a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you" (1 Peter 1:3-4).
In a timely Chapel message, President Nord will discuss his reflections on our annual theme of “Hunger and Thirst”, drawing attention to God's unwavering provision and the ways in which the Lord has blessed our campus and community. As the Associate Dean of Community Engagement, Ben Pearson oversees a variety of student programs, including the Barn, Corban Recreation, and Corban’s Community Garden. It is in these unique programs that Ben is able to share his passion for God’s creation and cultivate campus-wide stewardship through creative learning experiences. In celebration of Earth Day and Easter, Ben will discuss the connections between the Christ’s glorious resurrection and the call to creation care.
Brett Meador is the senior pastor of Athey Creek Christian Fellowship in West Linn, Oregon. On June 2nd, Athey Creek will open the doors of Athey Creek- Salem. Athey Creek- Salem will meet on Corban's campus. See the announcement here. Pastor Brett's passion is to point people to Jesus by teaching through God's word verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book. On Wednesday, he will do just that. Jordan Newton, adjunct faculty in Corban's School of Ministry, will help the Corban community consider how to approach this next season with a confidence built on our identity in Christ.

Dr. Trammell has taught at Corban since 1982 and currently serves as the English Chair. He married his best friend, Linda, and they have three sons. He also serves as the Family and Worship Pastor at Valley Baptist Church and the co-director of Redeeming Relationships Ministries. Dr. Trammell is passionate about helping people understand the gifts of love, romance and marriage. After graduating from Corban, Sue Moore Donaldson began teaching high school English in Brazil with Wycliffe Bible Translators. She loves connecting people to one another, to God, and to His Word, through her work. Donaldson is the author of three books, the mother of three daughters, and blogs at welcomeheart.com. Join Sue for chapel as she candidly shares her personal journey of "faith and doubt".
Not only does Dr. Allen Jones teach the Bible to Corban University students, he also cares deeply for their well-being. In his time instructing and supporting students, Dr. Jones has noticed the hesitation, humiliation, and shame often expressed when presented with the opportunity to share difficult experiences. In his Chapel message, Dr. Jones will discuss a theology of reporting sexual abuse and other traumas.
Dr. Jason Peters is a speaker, author, and CEO of Hope Haven Rwanda. He works to transform Rwandan families through a holistic approach to education and discipleship, actively demonstrating the love, hope and truth of Jesus Christ. Dr. Peters has traveled to 48 countries around the globe to meet with Christians and to help share their stories. He earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Dallas Theological Seminary, is a retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel and was host and producer of the national award-winning I Am N video curriculum.
After serving as an adjunct professor of Biblical Studies and Homiletics at Corban from 2010-2018, Ryan Welsh is nearing the conclusion of his PhD. at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Christian Ethics. Currently, Ryan pastors at the Redeemer Church in Bellevue, Washington. In Chapel, he will speak from Ecclesiastes 3:16-22 and explore the meaning behind of “the place of judgment”.
Dr. Yufeng Zhao is the Assistant Professor of Physics at Corban, where he has a passion for integrating the Christian faith with science and education in scientific aesthetics. Dr. Zhao came to know the Lord in 2001 after coming to the United States from China. Since then, he has developed a cross-cultural approach to biblical study by comparing the Scriptures with Chinese culture.
Between 1945 and 1956, an estimated 30,000 children of Allied Occupation Soldiers and women were born in Austria. During this time, children of black American Occupation Soldiers presented a new challenge to Europe’s racial and national identities in post-Nazi Europe. On Wednesday, Peter Coulson will share about growing up as a black child in 1950’s Austria, and how, through life-challenging obstacles, he has been given life-changing opportunities to impact the lives of others.
Georgene Rice has been a talk show host with KPDQ radio for more than 28 years and has traveled internationally as a station correspondent. She has lectured on University campuses and is a frequent speaker and worship leader at Christian conferences and retreats. Georgene is passionate about empowering people to be critical thinkers in this critical time. She will talk about the how the Christian can share the love of Christ and live a life of faith in today's culture.
Jer is a modern-day peacemaker, a church planter, a community organizer, a professor, and the co-founder of the peacemaking training organization called The Global Immersion Project. His engagement within national and international conflicts has equipped Jer to be a trainer and guide for the North American Church as he seeks to become an instrument of peace in our world.
Dave Williams’ unique background has fueled a passion to work with at-risk and homeless youth: After living on the streets, and experiencing abusive foster situations, Williams accepted Christ at the age of nineteen. Dave will share his powerful testimony and reveal Jesus’ transforming work in his life and in the lives of struggling youth.

Dr. Corey Gilbert’s new book, "I Can't Say That", is in the pre-order stage! (See Healinglives.com) In the book, he discusses the value of a Biblical sexual ethic and provides instructions to consider when building one. In chapel, Dr. Gilbert will use some of the content of his book to assist the Corban community as we seek to honor God by stewarding our sexuality well.
Corban's Athletic Director, Steve “Twiggs” Reed, is passionate about the believer's identity in Christ. Prior to coming to Corban, Twiggs worked diligently to bring up the next generation of Christian leaders in both athletics and in Young Life. He will embolden the Corban community to trust in God’s faithfulness, to hunger after God’s word, and to live in wisdom as one loved by the King of Kings. Corban alumnus, Dr. Ulf Spears, has more than 20 years of experience as an advisor, coach, consultant, facilitator, and mentor to leaders and organizations throughout the nation.
Currently, Dr. Spears serves as an adjunct professor at Warner Pacific, George Fox, and Price University. He is the author of the book, Coaching Leadership Families, a road-map for building healthy leadership families and has written several articles about leadership, management, and family. In his time in Chapel, Dr. Spears will engage the Corban community on the topic of multicultural relationships and discuss racial challenges through a biblical lens.
Advent is a time of celebration, remembering our great need and rejoicing in Jesus’s birth. Nathan Geer will help us move into this season by recapturing the journey of the wise men and giving attention to Jesus’ flight to Egypt. Together, we will consider the plight of the outsider and refugee in the depths of anticipation and longing.
The Reid Saunders Association has proclaimed the Gospel to more than 67 million people across the globe. He has ministered in 75 nations and across the USA in festivals, conferences, and outreach events. He joins the Corban community to help us think creatively about how we might share Jesus in the context God has placed us.
(Veteran's Chapel) A native of the Pacific Northwest, Brennan Silver served in the U.S. Marine Corps and saw combat in both Iraq and Afghanistan, attaining the rank of sergeant before returning home. An alumnus of Corban University (2013), today Brennan holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from George Fox University, currently serves fellow military-veterans as a mental health counselor, and published his first book "Communitas" in 2017.
Daniel da Silva was born and raised in Brazil and has served with YWAM (Youth with a Mission) for almost two decades. After serving with YWAM in Brazil, the Lord led the da Silva family to serve the nations of New Zealand, South Africa, the Philippines, and finally to YWAM Salem in 2014. Last month, Daniel accepted the position of High School Youth Pastor at Church on the Hill. Dr. Ron Washer is a third generation missionary. He and his wife Ann have served in Africa for nearly 40 years, first as church planters and administrators of a blind school in Togo, then as team leaders and now as the Director for Africa for ABWE. He has a heart to reach our world, especially the continent of Africa.
Dr. John Watters will launch Corban's missions focus on continent of Africa. His service includes Senior Advisor to the Executive Director of SIL International and Executive Director of Wycliffe Bible Translators International and SIL International. He has published over 40 technical articles in linguistics and sociolinguistics on various African languages as well as served as a translation advisor in various Bible translation projects. Come hear how God is using the power of Scripture to make a difference for Jesus Christ in the continent of Africa.
Michelle has worked with Pioneer Bible Translators for 4 years and has a heart to send more laborers to the nations. She is also known for her role on the television show "Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X." Michelle will speak about the importance of the Bible and seeking God, "God is interactive, real, and wants to transform us."
Being a Christian is so much more than just having a favorite verse. It can be tough sometimes to move beyond our shallow, surface level relationships with God. Lea is currently serving as ASB Vice President for Finance and Administration and will be sharing a part of her story at this week's ASB Chapel. She is a junior Business major and has a heart people. Lea will speak of her journey and relationship with God, as well as some things she's learned along the way.
Jason Waldron is a sculptor from Bend, Oregon. He assembles weathered and worn pieces of wood and metal, foraged from the forests and scrapyards of the High Desert. The Lord leads Jason in large scale sculptures of wildlife and figurative forms. He gets the privilege of sharing the revelatory artistic expression that God has given him at various venues throughout the country
Professor Scott is the resident expert on flora and fauna of Corban’s campus. He is also the founder of “Westrek,” the club at Corban University that engages students in hiking and other outdoor adventures. Each spring you can find him birding and teaching outdoors with the students in his Birds and Botany of Western Oregon class. Professor Scott serves as a board member for the Willamette Heritage Center, contributes to the historical journal, Willamette Valley Voices, and is a faculty advisor for the creation appreciation club Discover6. His professional interests include genealogy and regional history.
A self-ascribed “gentleman farmer,” Dr. Brice Yocum’s love for farming came at an early age and developed into a lifelong passion. In 2008, Dr. Yocum and his wife, Erin, decided to continue a five-generation legacy of farming on their 17-acre heirloom walnut farm in Central California. Together they have three daughters, including alumna Hannah Belleque (’14). The Yocums now raise rare, heritage poultry for customers across the country. Dr. Yocum is a licensed attorney, former higher-ed. administrator and business faculty member for Fresno Pacific University, and now serves as the CEO of Tucoemas Federal Credit Union. Dr. Yocum is passionate about good food and good stewardship and believes that a deeper connection to creation can heal the world.
Pastor James Gleason is the lead pastor at Sonrise Church in Hillsboro, Oregon. Pastor Gleason is a Corban Alumnus and has a heart to reach the "least, the last, and the lost with the saving message of Jesus Christ." In chapel, he will help us further consider how our appetites and desires both draw us towards and away from Christ.
Patti Williamson is a Corban alumna and local business owner. She also invests her time mentoring women who are recovering from abortion through an organization called SaveOne. Patti will share her personal story of God's transforming power and forgiveness.
Pastor Rick is the founder and lead pastor of Imago Dei Community and has authored six books. He is a nationally known speaker at conferences including Q, Catalyst, and The Justice Conference. In 2012, Portland Monthly magazine voted him one of Portland’s 50 Most Influential People and he is widely respected as a leader who navigates the issues surrounding faith, culture, and the church. Rick lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife and four children.

Ben Bryson pastored Court Street Christian Church for 26 years before following a prompting of the Lord to put his ministry on “pause”. After an extended time of rest, Ben is eager to share with the Corban community what the Lord has been teaching him. Focus: Keep in Step with the Spirit
Anxiety and depression can be difficult subjects to tackle. Dr. Steve Halliday, Assistant Professor of Media Arts, will share his personal story of anxiety and depression and how he encountered God in the examination of his mental health. This chapel will provide resources of support for those who may benefit from additional information on this subject
Hans is an elder and teaching pastor at Mission Fellowship in Salem. Mission Fellowship has been involved within the foster care system, and internationally through work in West Africa and elsewhere. Hans has his Bachelor of Arts in Business from the University of Notre Dame, where he also played basketball. Prior to vocational ministry, Hans worked in professional athletics, construction, retail strategic planning, and healthcare information technology.
Marcia Mattoso is originally from Brazil where she worked as an Associate Pastor for one of the largest Nazarene churches in South America. The Lord has used Marcia faith journey, her entrepreneurial spirit, and her attentiveness to His calling to make a practical impact in many people's lives. She is the founder and Executive Director of Hope Station Community Services, a non-profit food and clothing bank that serves about 3,000 people in need per month. Come hear her story of hope.
Kevin Palau is the son of international evangelist Luis Palau. He joined the Luis Palau Association, in 1985 and began directing the day-to-day operation of the ministry in the late 1990s. Under his leadership, LPA has produced some of the largest Christian events ever staged, created a worldwide network of hundreds of partner evangelists, and developed new models for citywide outreach that integrate major community service initiatives with open-air evangelistic gatherings. Kevin’s first book, “Unlikely: Setting Aside Our Differences to Live out the Gospel,” was released in June 2015. We are excited to have Kevin share about how the gospel of Jesus is changing the world.
Pierre Rosa is the pastor of Grace Baptist Church, one of the closest churches to Corban. Pierre first heard the gospel at age fifteen in his native country of Brazil. Until that day, he had been under the impression that he could earn a place in heaven through good works. During that sermon, Pierre came to Jesus in repentance and faith giving him a renewed hope. Pastor Rosa will share his testimony, his faith journey, and what it means to be a disciple of Christ.
Matt Maceira and Josh Lair were rescued out of the dark lifestyle of crime and drug abuse. They will share their testimonies of coming to faith in Jesus Christ and how God is using their past all for His glory. They started an organization called "Be Bold Street Ministry" that aims to love people and spread the gospel of Jesus to the streets of Salem. Friday evening Matt and Josh will partner with Corban ASB to minister to people living on the streets of Salem
Jeff Poush serves as the Associate Pastor at Salem First Baptist Church, located in the heart of Salem's downtown. He is the chaplain for the baseball team and teaches Bible as an adjunct professor here at Corban. Jeff will speak to how true satisfaction is found by thirsting after the Spirit. Jeramy loves football, Jesus, coffee, and his family. As a survivor of childhood abuse, he has spoken for several organizations to help kids heal from the deep wounds of an abusive past and has been a champion of Young Life in the local community. His life mission is "to compel, love, and inspire adolescents and families toward hope and wholeness in Jesus Christ and in His Kingdom." Jeramy will highlight youth service opportunities, specifically through Young Life.
Years ago, Megan Kohl, the daughter of retired Oregon judge Tom Kohl, was brutally murdered. The killer was tried and then convicted several years later. Judge Kohl was able to forgive Megan’s murderer only through the power and presence of Jesus Christ in his life. In February of 2017, Judge Kohl founded the nonprofit Paid in Full, whose mission is to provide inmates with an opportunity to receive an accredited bachelor's degree. Judge Kohl will share his story of how God can take a tragedy and turn it into a triumph.
Pastor Gleason reminded us that Mary's role is sometimes glossed over by Protestant and Evangelical traditions, but that her story, as depicted in Scripture, is full of wonder and mystery that we can't afford to ignore.

Erna Hackett, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship Women of Grit Erna Hackett has served on staff with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship for 17 years, 15 years in Los Angeles and currently in Portland, Oregon. She is passionate about racial justice, diversity, and leadership development. She spent ten years working with Black Campus Ministries in Los Angeles, then served as the Director of Worship for Urbana 15 Missions Conference. Dr. Allen Jones God Revealed in the Book of Ruth Dr. Allen Jones has served in a variety of ministries, including junior high, high school, college, community care outreach, children with special needs, and short-term missions work to Cameroon, South Sudan, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania and Mexico. Gerry Breshears has been professor of theology at Western Seminary since 1980. In addition to teaching and lecturing at a number of colleges and seminaries around the world, he speaks in many churches. He works in leadership in the Evangelical Theological Society nationally and regionally including having served as national president. John Inazu is the Sally D. Danforth Distinguished Professor of Law and Religion at Washington University in St. Louis and a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture at the University of Virginia. He teaches courses in criminal law, law and religion, and the First Amendment. His scholarship focuses on the First Amendment freedoms of speech, assembly, and religion, and related issues of political and legal theory. John’s first book, Liberty’s Refuge: The Forgotten Freedom of Assembly, was published by Yale University Press in 2012. He has written broadly for mainstream audiences in publications including USA Today, CNN, The Hedgehog Review, The Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post. Despite the confident pluralism of his academic training (BSE and JD from Duke and PhD from UNC-Chapel Hill), he remains an avid Duke fan.
A former cop in the Metro DC Area, Jamie Winship has spent over 25 years in the Muslim world, teaching people how to hear from God and live in his Kingdom. Jamie and his wife Donna speak around the US and across the globe. Together, they serve as catalysts to help people find their God-given identity and experience a life of freedom.
Jamie teaches through dynamic storytelling and real-life application, in ways that allow people to experience the reality of hearing God's voice in their daily lives. His teaching has helped thousands of people discover their true destiny.

Gary Ott is a practicing cardiothoracic surgeon who is currently Surgery Director of the Center for Advanced Cardiac Disease at the Providence Heart and Vascular Institute he has a clinical focus on cardiac replacement therapies and heart transplantation. He was formerly faculty at OHSU’s Department of Surgery. He received his MD from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his surgical residency training at Jefferson University Hospital and Cardiothoracic fellowship at Columbia/Presbyterian University Hospital in New York City.
His interests include music (guitar-more enthusiasm than talent), reading, tennis, and skiing. He loves his wife, Cheryl, of 30+ years and his kids Jordan, Hannah & Nathan and his dog Appa (a therapy dog at St. Vincents)

Troy Ready is currently living in Portland, OR serving as a mobilizer with Frontiers (an organization that sends church-planting teams exclusively into unreached Muslim people groups.) In 2009, his family moved to Tajikistan where they served for almost 4 years. Troy played 3 seasons with the Portland Timbers and now coaches the U-23 pro development team along with serving as the chaplain for the club. Most importantly, he is married to an incredible wife (12 years), and has 3 sons (8,6, and 3).
Dr. Greg Hamann is currently serving Linn-Benton Community College (Albany, OR) as its sixth president, a position he has held since February 2010.
At the community level, Dr. Hamann is an active participant in and contributor to a variety of regional educational and workforce projects and initiatives, including the Pipeline partnership between leading businesses, county and city leaders, area school districts and LBCC in order to simultaneously create new jobs and the well-trained workforce to fill them. In addition, Dr. Hamann serves as a member of his local United Way Board and is Chair of the Board for his area’s Boys and Girls Club. Dr. Hamann is an active contributor at the State level, serving as a Governor-appointed member of Oregon’s Quality Education Commission and Department of Corrections Reentry Council as well as serving on numerous task forces working to increase education’s effectiveness in improving the quality of life for all Oregonians.

He is doing so because this bill contains an "Apology to the native peoples of the United States" and was not publicized by the White House or by Congress.

Harrison is a former police officer who served in south central Los Angeles with the LAPD, then attended Corban before launching his successful business career. In this podcast, Harrison discusses how character is revealed in split-second decisions. He explains why we need to carefully choose what's 1st in our life. And he presents the three overriding characteristics of a genuinely godly person: humility, a generous spirit, and instant obedience and responsiveness to Scripture.
Marty Trammell, Ph.D., serves as Chair of Humanities and Professor of English and Communication at Corban University.
