Collider Ladies Night puts the spotlight on the need-to-know female voices in Hollywood through an entertaining, in-depth conversation. Who’s on the rise? Who’s changing the industry for the better? Collider.com senior producer Perri Nemiroff sits down with these standout forces to cover their journey from early influences, current projects, and beyond.
The John Ajvide Lindqvist novel, Let the Right One In, already has one downright phenomenal big screen adaptation and a rock solid American remake. Is it really possible for the source material to go three for three on screen? Five episodes into Showtime’s Let the Right One In series, it looks that way.
The show has a number of key characters to track. Most closely associated with the original story is Ian Foreman’s Isaiah and Madison Taylor Baez’s Eleanor. Isaiah’s a young kid who struggles to make friends and often finds himself face-to-face with bullies. However, hope comes in the form of a new neighbor, Eleanor, a girl who appears to be about the same age. But, little does Isaiah know, Eleanor is actually a vampire and her father (Demián Bichir) spends much of his time figuring out how to feed her.
Meanwhile, we’ve got Grace Gummer’s character Claire, a brilliant scientist building a promising career who’s forced to choose between that current work and her family when her estranged and ailing father calls with a very unusual request. Arthur Logan (Željko Ivanek) wants Claire to continue his search for a cure for her brother (Jacob Buster) who has also been turned into a vampire.
With Let the Right One In well into its Season 1 run, Gummer took the time to join us for an episode of Collider Ladies Nightto revisit the path she took to make her way to the new show.

Heather Langenkamp is a horror icon courtesy of her work as Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm Street. When you strike gold with an opportunity like that, it’s hard to imagine ever finding another role that’s on that same level. Langenkamp even said as much; “I knew nothing could be as good as Nancy. I've always felt that as a teenager and as a woman who grew up looking for good roles, it was really hard to find roles as good as that one.” But, then The Midnight Club came her way. She continued, “Except for now. I really feel like I found a role that's just as good as Nancy.”
Langenkamp plays Dr. Georgina Stanton in The Midnight Club on Netflix. She runs Brightcliffe, a hospice for terminally ill young adults. Dr. Stanton insists on giving her residents the trust, care, and support they need to “focus on living instead of fighting.” She understands some come to Brightcliffe leaning into unorthodox remedies and doesn’t judge them for it, but it’s the one that her newest resident, Iman Benson’s Ilonka, falls into that does become quite concerning.

David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy may be coming to a close for Andi Matichak with Halloween Ends on October 14th, but between her work ethic, passion, and lessons learned from the legendary Jamie Lee Curtis,Matichak is bound to make the most of even more big screen opportunities moving forward.
A first lead role in a Hollywood feature doesn’t get much bigger than this — playing Laurie Strode’s (Curtis) granddaughter in a Halloween film. Four years later, Matichak has starred opposite Curtis in three Halloween installments, with Halloween Ends marking an especially big shift for her character. In the 2018 film, an innocent and unknowing Allyson came face to face with her grandmother’s boogeyman, Michael Myers. Then in Halloween Kills, she was inspired to step up and join the fight to take him down, losing her mother, Karen (Judy Greer), in the process.
Halloween Ends begins four years after that blood-soaked encounter. Allyson’s built a life with her grandmother and works as a nurse in Haddonfield. Both seem to be in a good place given the horrors they’ve survived, but their situation becomes quite complicated when Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) steps into their lives. He was accused of killing the boy he was babysitting on Halloween night in 2019 and now, even though he was acquitted, he’s still a town pariah. Initially, Laurie is eager to help Corey when he’s bullied and is in favor of the budding romance brewing between him and Allyson, but then something changes. Laurie notices something concerning in this local outcast, but despite her warnings, Allyson opts to pull away from her grandmother and veer toward Corey instead.

Ghostsmarks Danielle Pinnock’s very first series regular role. If you’ve seen even a single episode of the downright delightful CBS show, you’re well aware she’s making the most of the opportunity and that there’s just no better actor for the role of Alberta.
Ghosts is an absolute must-see, one of the best new comedy series in recent years, but just in case you’re a little late to the game, we've got a primer for you; the CBS show is an adaption of the British series of the same name. In this version, Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar play Sam and Jay, a couple that inherits Woodstone Mansion and hope to turn the property into a B&B.
While getting settled, Sam suffers a bad fall and when she comes to, she realizes she can now see Ghosts and that her new home has a whole bunch of them, including Pinnock’s Alberta, a Prohibition-era jazz singer who’s convinced she was murdered.

Mia Goth has been quietly amassing one of the most exciting filmographies out there for the last 10 years. Until now, that is. She’s delivered standout supporting performances in films like The Survivalist, A Cure for Wellness, Suspiria, and more, but Ti West is the first to fully embrace the powerhouse she is and send her star soaring in a big way by releasing not one but two features in a single calendar year with Goth as the headliner, X back in March and now the prequel film, Pearl.
Even after having worked with some of the most iconic directors in the industry like Lars von Trier, Gore Verbinski, and Luca Guadagnino, it wasn’t until X that Goth finally got her first lead role in a feature film. One film quickly, or rather immediately, became two when inspiration struck and West got the OK from A24 to film not one, but two movies within the same series. First up would be X in which Goth starred as Maxine, a young woman with big dreams, and also as Pearl, an older woman struggling to cope with the fact that the opportunity to seize her own dreams is long gone. After filming that 1970s-set film, it was back to 1918 to create Pearl’s origin story.
A young Pearl is desperate to become a star, but her current circumstances make it very difficult for her to go after what she wants most. While her husband (Alistair Sewell) is off fighting in the war, Pearl is stuck at home caring for her catatonic father (Matthew Sunderland) and doing chores around the farm to appease her extremely strict and stern mother (Tandi Wright) who has absolutely no time for Pearl’s ambitions. Before long, Pearl’s mounting frustration with her situation and ache to become a star spark violent outbursts that tease the women she’s become in X.
While in Toronto celebrating the North American premiere of Pearl at TIFF 2022, Goth took the time to join us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to revisit her journey from modeling as a teenager to becoming an actor who consistently picks riveting, bold, and truly unforgettable projects to work on.

If you’re looking for a good example of someone who put in the work and experienced a steady climb to #1 on the call sheet, look no further than Abigail Cowen. While she has worked on a number of projects outside of Netflix, if you look at her work for the streamer alone she went from having a few lines in Stranger Thingsto scoring a supporting role in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina where Kiernan Shipka showed her what it means to headline a series, and now Cowen is doing just that starring as Bloom in Fate: The Winx Saga.
Just in case you need a little Winx 101, the Netflix series was inspired by the Nickelodeon animated series, Winx Club. In the live-action version, Cowen’s Bloom is a teenager from Earth (aka the First World) who discovers that she’s actually a fire fairy. She’s sent to the Otherworld where she’s enrolled at Alfea, a boarding school dedicated to teaching fairies how to master their powers.
Bloom’s thrown into the deep end, to say the least, in Season 1, needing to absorb a hefty dose of very serious Otherworld history and being tasked with accessing her full power in order to save Alfea from total destruction. However, in the process of doing that, she changes the state of the school quite drastically. When class is back in session in Season 2, Bloom needs to own up to what she’s done and figure out her place within that situation, all while dealing with an emerging threat connected to missing fairies.

There’s a slew of reasons why Cobra Kaiis a very special series, but after being lucky enough to chat with the cast and creators for five seasons, one particular thing stands out — the Cobra Kai company is packed with people who understand these characters and are deeply dedicated to doing whatever they can to make their journeys stronger and stronger along the way.
Mary Mouser made her first appearance on Collider Ladies Nightback in August 2020. That was just after news broke that the series would be moving over to Netflix and just before Season 3 debuted on the streamer. A lot has happened since, both for Mouser herself and for Samantha LaRusso, and that’s exactly what we’re digging into during Mouser’s return to Collider Ladies Night — in person!
During a round of Dicey Questions, Mouser highlighted, “Our writers are incredible at adapting and writing to these characters that we’ve probably all co-created at this point.” She continued, “I get to have a say, which is a really cool thing as a young actor to be taken seriously.” A cool thing indeed. A cool thing for Sam who gets a stronger arc courtesy of that collaboration and a cool thing for Mouser herself who’s getting the opportunity to establish a foundation for herself in this industry with such a creatively fulfilling project.

Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power, is a one-of-a-kind production, but fortunately, Nazanin Boniadi had a slew of past experiences that put her in prime position to make the absolute most of this whirlwind ride.
The show takes place during the Second Age. While it may seem like a period of peace and calm, Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel senses evil brewing and Boniadi’s Bronwyn comes face to face with that evil in Episode 1. Bronwyn is a Southlander. Many years back, their ancestors chose evil over good and their people have been paying for it ever since. They were forced to start from scratch by being banished to baron lands where they’re watched over by the elves. Bronwyn, however, is determined to change that. She aims to liberate her people so they can finally move on from their past.

Markella Kavenagh already had a handful of experience and credits to her name before jumping into The Rings of Power, but Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings series is about to send her star soaring in a very big way.
The show takes place before the events of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit and Lord of the Rings film trilogies, during the Second Age. While there is some that view it as a time of peace initially, Galadriel, played here by Morfydd Clark, senses evil brewing. While she sets off to face it head-on, Kavenagh’s Nori is living the nomadic lifestyle of a Harfoot. Even though Nori is very dedicated to her family, friends, and the community overall, she feels pulled towards bigger things, and that pull becomes especially strong when she encounters a mysterious stranger played by David Weyman.
With the first two episodes of The Rings of Power now available on Prime Video, it’s time to get to know Kavenagh a bit better. Ever since Evilfirst debuted on CBS in 2019, I was told time and time again that it was an absolute must-watch, that this genre mash-up of a show was right up my alley. I’m deeply embarrassed to admit that it took me until summer of 2022 to actually take that advice. But, sure enough, I fell so hard for Evil that now I’m determined to pay it forward — go watch all three seasons of Evil on Paramount+ right now!
The show stars Mike Coulter as David, a Catholic seminarian working as an assessor, someone tasked with investigating the legitimacy of miracles and also claims of demonic activity. David does this with the help of Aasif Mandvi’s Ben, a contractor who specializes in technology and has a knack for disproving supernatural phenomena via rational explanations. Rounding out the team with a different perspective and set of skills is Katja Herbers’ Kristen, a psychologist who doesn’t believe in the supernatural but rather that everything has an explanation in science. However, the more cases the team takes, the more Kristen's core beliefs are challenged.
Clearly I adore Evil overall, but one particular element of the show that makes it a must-watch series is Herbers’ performance. Not only does she deftly weave through complex cases that put everything the character believes to the test, but she goes all-in when tackling every single ounce of it, and given how many genres and tones Evil spans, that makes for a deliciously wide-ranging performance.
Given my enthusiasm for the show and her performance, it probably goes without saying that it was the ultimate treat to welcome Herbers to Collider Ladies Night to discuss her journey from Holland to Hollywood and, of course, what went down in Evil Season 3.

Collider Ladies Night is all about revisiting lessons learned and discussing how they’ve influenced the current path a creator is on. In Christina Ricci’s case, her decade’s worth of experience has led her straight to an Emmy nomination for playing a character who seems to well reflect her greatest ambitions as an artist. Yellowjackets is one of the most enthralling, enigmatic new series to hit screens in recent series, and it also features some of the best ensemble casting of all time.
Just in case you need the basics, the title Yellowjackets refers to the name of a 1996 New Jersey high school soccer team gearing up to play in a national tournament. However, on the way there, their plane crashes in the middle of nowhere, forcing the girls to go to the extreme in order to survive. In addition to covering the events of 1996, the show also cuts to 2021 where we find the survivors of the incident trying to live normal lives. That includes Ricci’s Misty, a former soccer team equipment manager turned care facility nurse. Misty is all about connection and caring for others, but she’s certainly made a habit of going about achieving those things in all the wrong ways.

However, there’s also a growing darkness in Tabby’s world. Not only is she struggling with past trauma, but she’s also being targeted by an unknown assailant dubbed "A" who’s determined to make her and her friends pay for a sin committed by their mothers two decades ago.

Myha’la Herrold is on the rise in a big way. Not only is she making waves on HBO’s Industry, but she’s also an absolute powerhouse in A24’s latest release, Bodies Bodies Bodies directed by Halina Reijn.
The movie covers what happens when a group of friends opts to ride out a hurricane by throwing a party at a secluded family mansion. During that party, they play a game — Bodies Bodies Bodies. It’s basically an imposter game like Among Us. One member of the group is secretly dubbed the killer and the rest of the players have to figure who that is before they can kill off the entire group. The girls can get pretty vicious, so perhaps it’s never just a game for them, but things do get especially intense when one player turns up real dead, not game dead.

Zoey Deutch has been busy carving her own path in this industry for years now, and it’s something special. Not only has she racked up credits that highlight her greatest strengths while also showing off her range in front of the lens, but she’s also put a considerable about of time into building her behind-the-scenes resume as well. In fact, her third film serving as a producer is now available to stream on Hulu. It’s Not Okay.
Deutch also stars in the film as Danni Sanders. When the movie begins, Danni’s having a rough go of it in a number of respects. She’s an aspiring writer who isn’t really excelling at the craft, she’s got no social life, and she’s struggling to build a social media presence. Desperate to make some improvements online, Danni decides to pretend she’s been sent on a trip to Paris, Photoshopping photos from her Brooklyn apartment to gain Instagram followers. Perhaps it can be considered a somewhat harmless lie until Paris suffers an attack and Danni is labeled a hero when she “returns." Rather than fess up and admit the truth, Danni gets caught up in finally having an audience, and continues to present herself as an influencer, advocate, and survivor.
It’s a bold film that demands everyone involved, but especially Deutch, go full force in depicting this despicable spiral of lies. How exactly does one build the skillset, courage, and know-how to jump into such a project as a producer and a headliner? Sofia Rosinsky delivers a true one-of-a-kind performance as Mac Coyle in the Prime Video adaptation of Paper Girls.
Mac is the very first paperboy in Stony Stream who’s not, well, a boy. Now there’s also Camryn Jones’ Tiff, Fina Strazza’s KJ, and the newest papergirl, Riley Lai Nelet’s Erin. Their paths collide in the wee hours of the morning on November 1, 1988, aka Hell Day. The hours after Halloween can get quite rowdy, but Mac, Tiff, KJ, and Erin have a rather unusual experience after encountering some bullies. After the incident, they wind up time traveling to 2019.
Paper Girls features A+ casting across the board, but Rosinsky’s performance, in particular, feels so incredibly specific to her skillset and her interpretation of the character that it’s impossible to imagine anyone else bringing Mac to life with such personality and color. It’s quite the achievement for an actor who’s just 16 years old, and it’s something that signifies that whatever that “special something” is, Rosinsky has it.

Jenny Slate, Dean Fleischer Camp, and Nick Paley did it. They took the 2010 internet sensation, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On theshort film, and expanded the concept into a full feature. And they didn’t just figure out a way to make it work. They crafted a deeply moving exploration of connection and community, far exceeding expectations and delivering a film that’s currently a favorite of 2022.
In the new movie, Marcel, a talking shell with shoes on voiced by Slate, is living with his Nana Connie (voiced by Isabella Rossellini) in a home being used as an Airbnb. They used to be part of a thriving community there, but their loved ones vanished, challenging Marcel and Connie to figure out how to survive on their own as tiny shells in a big house while also coping with their loss. However, when a documentary filmmaker (Camp) moves in, Marcel winds up with an unexpected opportunity to try to track down their loved ones.

In Season 1 of Stranger Things, Nancy is inspired to step up and face the Upside Down after Barb’s (Shannon Purser) disappearance. It’s a mighty powerful early point of change for the character, and it's something that the Duffer Brothers continued to build upon as Nancy’s circle of loved ones grew and as the threat of the Upside Down intensified. Throughout much of Season 2, Nancy teams with Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) to expose Hawkins Lab, and then in Season 3, she applies that tenacity to overcoming intense disrespect from the staff of the Hawkins Post to see an investigation through that proves vital to battling the Mind Flayer.
As we see in Stranger Things 4, Episode 9, “The Piggyback,” every single character proves vital to the plan to defeat Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), but Nancy in particular shows off an especially essential ability to assess the threat and figure out what's necessary to power through the mission, a quality that will undoubtedly be crucial to saving Hawkins in the show’s final season.

The cast of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy was electric in Season 1. One’s got to imagine it’s a challenge to join such an ensemble and encourage the audience to fall for your character just as hard, but Ritu Arya did just that in the second season as Lila Pitts.
When we first meet Lila in the hit Netflix series, her adoptive mother, The Handler (Kate Walsh), has her assisting in her mission to overthrow the authority at The Commission so she can assume control. However, after succeeding in that plan, Lila comes to learn that The Handler is responsible for the murder of her biological mother and stepfather, putting their entire relationship in question. Diego (David Castañeda) and the Umbrellas try to convince Lila that they can be her family, but after The Handler is shot, Lila opts to take off with the briefcase.
Season 3 picks up immediately after the events of Season 2 with the Umbrellas making their way home sweet home to present-day New York — or so they think. Their home now belongs to The Sparrow Academy, an alternative version of their super-powered family. Ultimately, Lila does make her way back to the group to test this notion of family in an unexpected way; she tells Diego that they had a son together, Stanley (Javon Walton).

Everything Everywhere All At Once is changing the game in a very big way for breakout star Stephanie Hsu. No synopsis can do the full film justice, but just in case you’ve yet to experience the phenomenon, Everything Everywhere All At Once focuses on Michelle Yeoh’s Evelyn Wang, a woman struggling to keep her family’s laundromat afloat with her husband, Waymond (Ke Huy Quan). Evelyn is so wrapped up in that, filing her taxes, and her father’s (James Hong) arrival from China that she fails to notice how much her daughter Joy (Hsu) really needs her. As though things couldn’t get more complicated, in comes another version of her husband, Waymond from the “Alphaverse.” The multiverse is in danger, and he thinks that Evelyn has the power to save it. Everything Everywhere All At Once began racking up positive reviews out of its SXSW world premiere and gained even more before hitting theaters on March 25th. From there, the film's star continued to soar, inspiring many to give this wacky multiverse adventure oozing with heart a go. In fact, it’s currently getting mighty close to becoming A24’s highest-grossing release at the domestic box office. It’s a marvel of a movie that could and should continue to make waves through 2022. Admittedly, I was a little late to the game on Everything Everywhere All At Once, only catching the film two weeks into its theatrical release, but you can bet the first thing I did when I got home from the screening was send the necessary emails to get Stephanie Hsu on an episode of Collider Ladies Night. With Outer Range’s eight-episode run on Prime Video now complete, Imogen Poots took the time to join us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to revisit her journey from her earliest credits to joining the cast of Amazon’s supernatural Western. Outer Range puts the spotlight on Josh Brolin’s Royal, the head of the Abbott family who’s doing everything he can to keep their ranch up and running. I’ve been lucky enough to cross paths with Taissa Farmiga quite a bit over the years for interviews, but a Collider Ladies Night conversation is different. Farmiga’s had a one-of-a-kind journey in this industry and during our 40-minute chat, we covered as much of it as possible leading up to her latest project, the HBO series, The Gilded Age. From Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, The Gilded Age kicks off in the United States in 1882, a time that involved a significant conflict between old money and new ways of amassing enormous fortunes. In the Upper East Side of New York City, the former group includes the Van Rhijn household, led by Christine Baranski’s Agnes van Rhijn. Agnes holds tight to the past and keeps an eye out for newcomers who don’t belong, like her new neighbors the Russells. That’s where we meet Farmiga’s character, Gladys Russell. She’s the teenage daughter of George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha (Carrie Coon). At this point, Gladys should have made her society debut, but Bertha refuses to let Gladys out of lockdown until she can fill her massive ballroom for the occasion. Trouble is, given that the Russells are new to the area, Bertha is finding it rather difficult to earn a place in the local elite social circle. I know it’s only the end of January, but trust me when I tell you Maddie Ziegler’s new movie is a special one. I had the opportunity to catch The Fallout at SXSW 2021, and the movie has been on my mind ever since. Had it received a 2021 release, it likely would have been a favorite of the year. The entire Cobra Kai ensemble shines every single season, but there’s no denying that Peyton List is a major standout as Tory in Season 4. When we first met the character in Season 2, Tory joins Cobra Kai and develops an intense rivalry with Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mouser). And who can blame her? Accusing Tory of stealing her mother’s wallet wasn’t really an ideal first encounter. Things continue to escalate between the two when Tory strikes up a relationship with Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) only to spot him rekindling his romance with Sam shortly after. No, Yennefer didn’t have peak confidence all throughout Season 1 of The Witcher, but Anya Chalotra seemed to be oozing with it while playing the character. After much struggle, Yennefer not only ascends but also insists that the Aretuza enchanter change her physical differences. This year, one of the biggest delights paving the way to the holidays and spreading good vibes every step of the way is the new CBS sitcom, Ghosts. I’ve been a massive fan of Kate Siegel’s since 2016's Hush and that enthusiasm for her talent has only grown since the release of The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and now Midnight Mass. It’s always a delight chatting with Kaitlyn Dever, but it was especially exciting to finally welcome her to Collider Ladies Night! Dever is currently celebrating the release of Dear Evan Hansen this weekend, but she’s had an especially exciting and very busy journey to this highly anticipated film. The movie is the big screen adaptation of the Tony Award winning musical that sees Ben Platt returning to the title role. Evan Hansen is a high school student struggling with anxiety. His therapist suggests he write letters to himself, but one day, a troubled, school outcast named Connor (Colton Ryan) takes one of those personal and very private letters. Soon after, Connor takes his own life and when Connor’s mother (Amy Adams) finds Evan’s letter, she assumes Connor wrote it to Evan and that they were close friends. Evan plays along and perpetuates the lie in an attempt to ease her pain, and do the same for Connor's sister, Zoe (Dever), as well. Sex Education is a must-watch show and Aimee Lou Wood is a must-follow rising star in it. The Netflix series focuses on a group of students at Moordale Secondary School trying to figure out how to fit in, grow up and find themselves. One of the most beautiful things about the show is that it features a diverse cast and explores a wide variety of very human challenges with humor, heart and pathos. This was a very big summer for Emily Rudd. Scoring a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a long time coming for Teyonah Parris. I’ve been hoping for a long form interview with Kelly Marie Tran ever since first meeting her at the Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiere party. Not only did I wind up falling hard for her new addition to the franchise - Rose Tico, a Resistance mechanic who’s heart is very much in the right place and has the power to inspire others - but Tran herself was also especially warm and bubbling with excitement for the film. As someone who often can’t contain her love for this industry and the stories it shares, seeing someone so enthusiastic while taking her first major step towards becoming a big part of it made that brief encounter unforgettable. Sure enough, Tran took that opportunity, and also her own raw talent, and has been running with it ever since - on screen and off. While using her platform and voice to inspire, Tran is busy racking up impressive film and television credits in a number of different capacities. She starred opposite Elizabeth Olsen in Sorry for Your Loss, she’s been crushing it in the voice acting department with features like The Croods: A New Age and now Disney Animation’s Raya and the Last Dragon, and she’s also adding some impressive producing credits to the list as well. She’s an executive producer on the award-winning documentary Lily Topples the World and she’s an EP on Carlos López Estrada’s upcoming film Summertime as well. All this and she still found time to wow the world with her Miscast21 performance, playing both Elder Price and Elder Cunningham in a rendition of "You and Me (But Mostly Me)" from The Book of Mormon.
