I had a unique experience the other night. This is it.
I should note that I am using AI voices for the different incarnations of God. I'm not, however, using cloned voices because an excellent point has been made that to do so is discourteous to those whose voices were cloned. These voices are, essentially, stand ins.
I made a version for myself with cloned voices, and I feel like that's okay if I don't release it to the general public. That's how I solved my moral problem.

We've been doing this for quite a long time now. This is our 200th episode together. In honor of the occasion, I'm explaining, as clearly as possible, what my Idealism is all about. I'm doing it in both nonfiction and fiction.
The Impossible Conversation is another portion of "The Teddy Bear Coder." I don't know if it will appear in the novel. I don't know that the novel will ever be published. I'm not entirely sure it will even be completed. I'm told my fiction isn't as good as my nonfiction. But I'm using that story to show what it is that I would truly like to accomplish, and how it might be done. Yes, it's a childish and naive idea. I'll live with that. I hope you will, too.

Evidently the quickest way to make both sides angry is to suggest peace. When I posted this on Patreon, and when I posted it on my blog, both sides told me there was no way they would make peace with the other side. I'm not sure many people even listened to or read what you're about to hear before they decided peace was unthinkable. And that's the thinking that is going to keep us divided.

One of them complained about a race of men in the trees, and the guy was for tough legislation. That gives you some metric for the reliability of his callers.
Rasmussen, however, wasn't a caller. He actually broke into the station, and he demanded Lester set up an interview with me over Zoom. This is that interview.

This is about Freedom of Expression. I believe you're allowed to express opinions without regard to parts of you over which you had no control. Your age, the gender and place you were born, and the family into which you were born do nothing to disqualify you from expressing your thoughts.

I have to make a conscious choice to stay alive every day. Diabetes will kill me if I let it. Depression makes this a challenge. It can sap the will to live. Autism complicates all of it. Suicide prevention is more than posting the number for a hotline. On Fred's Front Porch, I often discuss the idea that was can all Shine in our own ways. I've never really explained what I mean by that, though.
To Shine means to "be there" for someone, whether that means in person, or in a piece of Art, or in any other way that works for you and them.

It's about feeling and expressing Gratitude to all those who make my life as good as it is. In a church, one is likely to find both eulogies and confessions. I offer one of each tonight.
These are both from the Summer of 2019. I lost my dog, Melanie, on June 14th of that year. I wrote her eulogy that night. I finally had the strength to deliver it this week.
Some members of my family, a few weeks afterward, told all of my Facebook Friends that if they knew how horrible I was, they wouldn't be my friends anymore. They challenged me to confess my worst sin. I accepted the challenge. I lost only a few friends by doing so. I hope I don't lose you.
Melanie is what connects all of these pieces together. I will never stop missing her.

Those of us who suffer from Clinical Depression frequently fight battles with the Prosecutor in our heads who tells us why we should be miserable. They find all our flaws. They scream about our insecurities. They attack us on every level they can find.
Your Prosecutor will be different from mine. What worries me isn't what worries you. I think, though, that even those who don't battle Clinical Depression still have a voice inside their heads telling them what's wrong with them.
For me, the important thing to remember is that when you're on a trial, you have a right to a Defense Attorney too.

This is the first time I've shared a true story with you. This is from 50 years in my past. I haven't seen Kelly Ashby since a year after this story takes place. I learned that Turkey was something more than a Thanksgiving meal when her father got transferred there. Crackers still scares me.
My Father passed away 11 years ago. My Mother, whose voice you heard several weeks ago, can remember bits and pieces of this from time to time, but she doesn't understand very much anymore. I haven't spoken to Jon or Shelley in years.

That simple statement touched off a furious debate. I have taken the time to read all of the comments there, and I have written and recorded this to help explain my idea more completely. If we can’t all agree on what the facts are, we have no chance of finding the solutions to the problems we face collectively.
I’m going to do my best to show you the facts, and then I’m going to explain why we can disagree about how to handle them, while still accepting what they are. This, I believe, is how we can save our country. We need to return to reality.

This is my effort to change a single mind. I have a friend who listens, at least occasionally, to this show. She actually left me a message once to tell me she was playing a show.
She and I disagree about COVID.
I am not simply dismissing her ideas. Neither should anyone else. I don't believe there is any sort of conspiracy going on with this pandemic, but I consider the idea carefully.
I would like for you to consider all of the ideas I present here. Your beliefs dictate your behavior. Your behavior is now relevant to all the rest of us. Let's choose our beliefs, and, therefore, our actions carefully.
If I can change, even just a little, a single mind, I will feel wildly successful. I hope you can use this to change the minds of your friends, too. Or, maybe I can get you to think differently about the pandemic.
There really is no more important discussion to have at the moment.

This is where I'm going to let you get to know me a little better. Why would I do that? It has to do with Connection. My friend, Corey Cottrell, who is essentially the Godfather of this show, had a great TED Talk on his 100 Days Page today. I don't know the speaker, but she makes the point that the reason we're all on this planet is Connection. We need to feel we belong. We want to be accepted.
Part of the problem with this is our sense of shame. We all have parts of us that we are afraid to reveal to the world because we fear if you really knew us, you would reject us. We would no longer have any sense of belonging. We would be disconnected.
I'm not going to reveal my deepest, darkest secrets. Have no fear. But I'm going to give you a little rundown of what I see as being the Major Facts of Fred. I'm also going to invite you to give me some of the Major Facts of You. I hope to have something called a Google number before much longer. If it works as I believe it does, you can leave voicemails there, and tell us a little about yourself. I'm going to read to you, first, the end of a book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry called "Wind, Sand, and Stars." You may know him as the author of "The Little Prince." This is a memoir he wrote in 1939, and you will hear some less enlightened expressions of attitudes that were held by most French aristocrats in those days. Please see them in their historical context. He tells of a train trip he took in which he observed what happens to those tossed by the tides of the economy. It is a sad -- perhaps tragic -- story of people whose souls seem to have been crushed beyond recognition. This will make you gloomy. I promise to give you hope before it's over. I got to do something that made me happier than anything else really can anymore. I had support from people I've never met, and from people who owe me nothing, and to whom I owe more than I can ever hope to repay.
I chronicled my adventure on Facebook. Many people followed it with delight. I had more likes and loves last week than I have had in over a year. I wrote well. I pushed my depression out of the way.
This is the story of one of the greatest weeks of my life. It comes from wildly improbable situations. If I wrote it as a piece of fiction, no one would believe it. I would be pushing your suspension of disbelief to the breaking point. And yet... this is all true. It's a story of hope, and of dreams come true. It's how I confirmed The Power of Love. I'm an Idealist. I'm sharing my ideas here, but most of them aren't my ideas. They're Thomas Paine's ideas. They Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's ideas. They come from Milton Friedman and Stephen Hawking. They have been synthesized by Andrew Yang. These ideas have helped to shape mine.
This is my effort to spread these ideas, and my Idealism, to enough people that, perhaps, we can make a difference. I would like to make the world a bit more kind, a touch more compassionate, and substantially less afraid. I have no delusions of grandeur that I will actually be able to change the world, but I am trying to do my small part in my small way. My late father, a Professor of Philosophy of Education, once told me that Albert Camus said, "To believe you can change the world is insanity; failure to try is cowardice." Sadly, he never told me WHERE Camus said that, and I've never been able to find the citation. Nevertheless, I choose not to be a coward.
I believe we all have a human right to the basics of survival. I believe that when we have our survival needs met, our lives, and, as a consequence, our civilization, will improve. I believe a sort of Utopia really is possible. It may not be in my lifetime, but perhaps I can be here to see us take those first few steps to a world in which we work to better ourselves and all of mankind, instead of working merely to survive.
I believe Andrew Yang is the first candidate in my lifetime who can actually put us on that road.

Christmas is a time of Magic. There must be something in the air at the Solstice that causes a strange change to come over all of us. Complete strangers wish each other “Merry Christmas” or some version of “Happy Holidays.” Charities are swamped with donor and volunteers. Forgiveness comes more easily. There seems to be a universal agreement that, at Christmas, love and kindness rule the day.

This is a description of what poverty really means, from the point of view of someone who has lived it. My poverty is much less than that of many others. I still have a home, food, and medical care. My clothing is adequate to my environment. In fact, I have a computer and an internet connection, so I am doing better than a large portion of the world. Many are worse off than I am.
It can always get better, but it can also get worse. This is what we need to end, not just for me, but for everyone on Earth. We have the resources, and we are foolish not to make use of them.
Snuffy Walden provides the background guitar on the porch today. He's delightful, and, sadly, he broke a nail in a fairly painful way.

From the first episode, I stated my Fundamental Beliefs. This is an application of some of those beliefs. I'm advocating for Greta, I'm discussing the idea that we need to accept the Science of Climate Change, I'm advocating Health Care for All, I'm advocating Impeachment as a Moral Imperative, and I'm responding to the people who have taken the time to respond to me.
I'm also working on adding a little more to the feeling of the porch, and I just got a new microphone, so the sound goes up and down a bit. I apologize profusely for that. I'm learning.
