Kevin Torgerson was elected Olmsted County Sheriff in November 2014 and took office on January 6, 2015. He sought the Office of Sheriff with a commitment to:
Cultivate community and regional partnerships Improve technology to enhance services Collaborate for improved public safety Exercise fiscal responsibility Promote staff development As the Sheriff, Torgerson leads 177 employees and volunteers, oversees an annual budget of nearly $30 million, and serves a diverse population of over 150,000 people.
Prior to being elected, Torgerson continuously served with the Sheriff’s Office for more than 27 years, holding a number of leadership positions in the Sheriff’s Office, including Captain and Director of Emergency Management. This year (2020) marked his 34th year of service to Olmsted County. Kevin completed his formal education at Golden Valley Lutheran College, continued it at Metro State University, and is a certified Emergency Manager.
Born in Fergus Falls, he later graduated from Kenyon High School in Kenyon. Kevin and Lori have been married for more than 39 years. They have two adult children, Nick and Marissa. Nick is a doctor and Marissa is a Spanish Immersion teacher.

Betsy is the weekday news anchor at 5:00 & 6:30 on ABC 6 News in Rochester. She started at ABC 6 News in July of 2009. Betsy got her start in television news as a reporter and anchor in Columbus, Mississippi at WCBI. From there she was the weekend anchor for WTXL in Tallahassee, Florida. She also worked as a reporter/anchor for WHBQ in Memphis, TN where she covered the Jonesboro, AR school shooting in 1998 which was the turning point of her career. She decided to get out of television and focus on her family back in MN and WI. As the youngest of seven, Betsy returned home and worked as a job coach for people with developmental disabilities in the Winona area. Within a year, the local NBC affiliate in Rochester, MN asked her to be the 6:00 and 10:00 evening anchor where she met and married her husband, Ken Quattrin. The two were married in 2001 and have two sons. Betsy has won two Regional Emmy Awards and throughout her career, has received numerous awards and honors for her work as an anchor and reporter. Betsy is an avid supporter of people with developmental disabilities and sits on numerous boards and committees that advocate and raise money for people with special needs. She also serves as a community liaison for various non-profit organizations and charities. When not volunteering for various community events you’ll find her spending time with her parents in the Winona area. Not Afraid of Hard Work After college Nels moved to Rochester, where he worked in the auto industry and, more important, met Nicole. Together Nels and Nicole began to acquire, renovate, manage and sell commercial and residential properties. They have a particular interest in historical preservation of area properties.
He also continued to pursue his growing interest in politics. Becoming involved through the caucus process, Nels was elected to central committee of the local party and in 2001 was elected as chair of the Olmsted County Republican party. In 2002, he was the campaign manager that helped get Carla Nelson first elected to the Minnesota State House of Representatives. Building on that experience, Nels was honored to serve as U.S. Congressman Gil Gutknecht's campaign manager for two election cycles. Nels stayed involved in politics because he knows that with more informed and active citizens the probability increases for our state and nation to be left in much better shape for future generations. Quoting one of Dr. Ben Carson's favorite sayings, "If two people think and say the same thing about everything, then one of them is not necessary." Nels believes that every citizen serves a purpose in our republic and that is why he is involved and why he encourages others to participate also.
In 2009, Nels made his love of property development his profession, becoming a realtor for Edina Realty and continued acquiring and restoring properties. He believed further education in real estate law would benefit his clients, so began his education at Hamline. In addition to attending law school and selling real estate, Nels was asked to serve as political consultant for several federal and state issues. Nels consulted for clients, including the City of Rochester, Olmsted County, Mayo Clinic and the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce.

Together Nels and Nicole began to acquire, renovate, manage and sell commercial and residential properties. They have a particular interest in historical preservation of area properties.
He also continued to pursue his growing interest in politics. Becoming involved through the caucus process, Nels was elected to central committee of the local party and in 2001 was elected as chair of the Olmsted County Republican party. In 2002, he was the campaign manager that helped get Carla Nelson first elected to the Minnesota State House of Representatives. Building on that experience, Nels was honored to serve as U.S. Congressman Gil Gutknecht's campaign manager for two election cycles. Nels stayed involved in politics because he knows that with more informed and active citizens the probability increases for our state and nation to be left in much better shape for future generations. Quoting one of Dr. Ben Carson's favorite sayings, "If two people think and say the same thing about everything, then one of them is not necessary." Nels believes that every citizen serves a purpose in our republic and that is why he is involved and why he encourages others to participate also.
In 2009, Nels made his love of property development his profession, becoming a realtor for Edina Realty and continued acquiring and restoring properties. He believed further education in real estate law would benefit his clients, so began his education at Hamline. In addition to attending law school and selling real estate, Nels was asked to serve as political consultant for several federal and state issues. Nels consulted for clients, including the City of Rochester, Olmsted County, Mayo Clinic and the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce.
