Join the host, Neil Ravin, each week as he catches up with coaches, players, scouts and more from around the league. Now in its 10th season, the EHL has set itself apart as the college placement leader at the NCAA Division II and III levels. Every story is different, and we're ready to help you write the next chapter in yours. Next stop, the #EShow.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we recap the January Showcase, the final league-wide event of the season in both the EHL and the EHLP. Starting things off in the Weekly Rundown (2:49), we look back on the weekend in New Hampshire and discuss the impacts felt on all of the divisions within each level of play. Further along in the #ECrew Fantasy Challenge (45:52), Team HNIB continues to ride the positive momentum, as the schedule shifts into 'stretch run' mode for the final six weeks of the regular season. Finally, we wrap things up the way we always do, by circling a handful of matchups to watch in our What to Watch For segment (56:35).
On this week's episode of the #EShow we preview the final league-wide event of the season, set to take place this weekend in New Hampshire. Starting things off in the Weekly Rundown (2:49), we set the table for this weekend's showcase by going division-by-division across the EHL and the EHLP. Moving along to the #ECrew Fantasy Challenge (42:20), Team HNIB is starting to feel confident after gaining nearly 40 points on Team OG this past week. Finally, to wrap things up in our What to Watch For segment (54:30), we circle some matchups to keep an eye on this upcoming weekend.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we preview the return to action in both the EHL and the EHLP. Kicking things off in the Weekly Rundown (2:15), we recap what was discussed over the course of the holiday break and set the table for all of the division races down the final stretch. On this week's episode of the #EShow, we kick things off with an interview featuring Austin Master (1:25), an alum of the Philadelphia Little Flyers and current captain at Stevenson University. Master joins the podcast to discuss his selection to the World University Games, and what it means to represent his country. Following the interview (12:19), the #ECrew gets back together for an annual tradition. It's that time of year again where the podcast creates bulletin board material for the rest of the season. Find out who we're picking to reach the 2023 Frozen Finals at the end of March, and just as a reminder and a disclaimer, we will all have one last chance to reset our choices right before the start of the postseason.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we bring the entire #ECrew together as we look back on the season to date. Starting things off in the Weekly Rundown (4:40), we reflect on what has caught our attention so far and look back on the December Showcase in Newington, CT. Further along in the Fantasy Challenge (34:59), we recap the points collected over the course of the past two weeks, and set the table for the stretch run. Finally, this week's What to Watch For segment (42:15) previews what's coming next week, as the entire #ECrew gets back together again to make our mid-season picks for the eight teams we're predicting to see advance to the 2023 EHL Frozen Finals.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, Jake Basile kicks things off with an interview featuring Cody Gonyeau (1:21), the new Head Coach of the Boston Jr. Terriers. Following the interview and inside the Weekly Rundown (21:54), we break down the unique spot where we're at in the calendar, and in particular, an important showcase next week in Newington, CT. Further along in the #ECrew Fantasy Challenge (55:14), don't call it a comeback, but Team HNIB has started to make up some ground on Team 'OG'. Finally, with no new podcast episode coming out between now and the holiday break, we each preview a matchup to watch in the EHL and the EHLP (1:02:58) as we work our way down the final stretch of games in 2022.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we recap the 2022 EHL All-Star Classic. The Weekly Rundown begins (4:07) with a look back at the All-Star event that took place in Worcester, MA this past Sunday and Monday. It's crazy how things changed from one year to the next, as the 2022 final standings were completely flipped in comparison to 2021. Further along in the #ECrew Fantasy Challenge (35:55), we reset our picks for the next two weeks due to many teams going on a short break for the holiday. Finally, we wrap up the episode (51:01) by previewing a game apiece in the EHL and EHLP in our What to Watch For segment.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we preview the 2nd Annual EHL All-Star Classic. Kicking things off however in the Weekly Rundown (2:58), we begin the episode by taking a look back at this past weekend, which featured the second league-wide showcase of the season in the EHL and the EHLP. Further along inside the #ECrew Fantasy Challenge (30:37), Team 'OG' continues to cruise thanks in large part to a mega week from Aden Hotchkiss of the New Hampshire Avalanche. Last, but not least, we wrap up the episode (49:13 - What To Watch For) with discussion on this weekend's All-Star event in Worcester, a fitting final 'showcase' before a short break for Thanksgiving.
On this week's episode of the #EShow we preview the second league-wide event of the season, set to take place this weekend in Haverhill and Lawrence, Massachusetts. Starting things off in the Weekly Rundown (2:42), we look back at this past week as well as reflect on where the Power Rankings stand heading into the November Showcase. Further along, inside the #ECrew Fantasy Challenge (39:08), Team HNIB got the upper hand this past week as they try to slowly start cutting into the deficit. Then, to wrap things up in our What to Watch For segment (52:20), we circle some key matchups to watch throughout the upcoming showcase weekend.
On this week's episode of the #EShow we turn the calendar over to November, and the 3rd month of the season. Kicking things off in the Weekly Rundown (2:18), we go division-by-division and break down all of the races unfolding in the EHL and the EHLP. Moving along to the #ECrew Fantasy Challenge (35:39), we reset our weekly picks, but also hype up a player with at least a goal in four of his last five games, combined between the EHL and the EHLP. On this week's episode of the #EShow, we recap the 2022 EHL All-Star College Series, which was the 5th edition of the annual event and an incredible weekend in New York. The Weekly Rundown begins (3:54) with a look back at the weekend, and then transitions into a review of the latest set of Power Rankings, which includes a discussion over whether or not the 5th slot in the EHL is cursed. Moving along to the #ECrew Fantasy Challenge (33:10), and the question is asked, can Team 'OG' maintain this pace? Finally, we wrap things up with What to Watch For (42:58), and a look at the games that we have circled this upcoming week.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we get you geared up for the 2022 EHL All-Star College Series. Kicking things off in the Weekly Rundown (4:26), we discuss this week's set of exhibition matchups as Team EHL faces off against Nazareth College on Friday and SUNY Brockport on Saturday. Also on Saturday, the South Division All-Star Team will take on Lebanon Valley College in Hershey, PA. Moving along to the #ECrew Fantasy Challenge (39:17), Team HNIB is coming off of its best week of the season, as we reverse the structure this upcoming week with each lineup featuring five EHLP players and just 1 EHL player. Finally, to wrap things up in our What to Watch For segment (49:07), we preview what to expect for both All-Star teams this upcoming weekend, both on and off the ice.
On this week's jam-packed episode of the #EShow, Jake Basile kicks things off by interviewing Joe Bertagna (1:24), who is currently in his 40th season of serving as a commissioner of a hockey league. Next up in the Weekly Rundown (32:27), we officially announce the roster that will be heading to New York next weekend for matchups against Nazareth College and SUNY Brockport in the 2022 EHL All-Star College Series. Further along in the #ECrew Fantasy Challenge (1:13:26), a new set of picks are made as Team HNIB promises to close the gap on Team OG. On this week's episode of the #EShow, we get you geared up for the September Showcase, with 50 games on tap over the next four days in Worcester, MA. To kick things off in the Weekly Rundown (2:54), we recap the first week of the season, which included some slight movement in both the EHL and EHLP Power Rankings. On this week's episode of the #EShow, we preview the start of the 2022-23 season. When the puck drops later this afternoon in Connecticut, it will mark the beginning of the 10th year in league history for the EHL. To kick things off, the #ECrew welcomes Jake Basile (1:18) to the podcast for the very first time, and then takes you through the Weekly Rundown (2:34) with a breakdown of both sets of Pre-Season Power Rankings. Continuing on, we get to the #ECrew Fantasy Challenge (39:13) with a new format being implemented for this upcoming year. Then, to wrap things up, each member of #ECrew picks a matchup to watch (58:38) over the course of the opening weekend.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we cross off the final Team of the Week feature of the off-season by highlighting the Connecticut RoughRiders. Eric Lind and Steven Brown join the podcast (1:17) to reflect and look forward, as the longest tenured coaching duo in the history of the league. While there are other coaches who have also been in the league since its inception back in 2013, no other pair of coaches has remained together with the same organization for that entire time. To wrap up the off-season (16:24), the #ECrew puts together one final Top 10 selection which includes a pair of brothers that each posted a 40-goal season.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we turn the calendar over to September, and feature the Philadelphia Little Flyers. Mark Catron joins the podcast (1:11) to look back on another phenomenal season in 2021-22, plus preview what's to come with the return of Mike Narrigan who will coach the EHLP team this upcoming year. Further along, the #ECrew welcomes a special guest to the podcast (14:58), as Tom Willms helps the group put together arguably the best Top 10 selection of the entire off-season.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we turn the corner to the final three Team of the Week features of the off-season. Ryan McGrath joins the podcast (1:13), as we feature the Valley Jr. Warriors, and preview the veteran coach's 4th season in the EHL. McGrath takes time to reflect on the 2021-22 season, including making reference to the tremendous job that Brett Heigl did en route to being named the EHLP Coach of the Year. Further along, the #ECrew gets back together (15:14) to construct another Top 10 list for an 'Original 6' franchise.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we feature a program that still feels relatively new to the league in the Seacoast Spartans. Brett Tryder joins the podcast (1:08) to discuss how he is preparing for his team's 4th season in Exeter, NH. Seacoast has taken a step forward each and every year, and Tryder feels that he has truly been a bounce or two away from reaching the EHL Frozen Finals. To wrap things up, the #ECrew comes together (16:28) for this week's Top 10 selection.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we feature arguably the most historic franchise in the EHL, the New York Apple Core. Lenny Caglianone joins the podcast (1:11) to talk about his mindset in preparing to take over at the helm this fall. A former player in the EHL, Caglianone is anxious to drop the puck on his first game as a Head Coach in the league. Further along, the #ECrew reconnects (14:45) with this week's Top 10 selection, highlighted by a pair of goalies who went on to win major awards in their respective collegiate hockey conferences.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we highlight an organization that truly looks at their program as one big family, the Seahawks Hockey Club. Bill Zaniboni joins the podcast (1:10) to look back on the 2021-22 season, the 5th year for the team in the EHL, and the first year for the program's EHLP team. Further along, the #ECrew welcomes a special guest onto the podcast (17:19), as Jim McCabe the Play-By-Play Broadcaster for the Seahawks, helps select the Top 10 players in franchise history.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we highlight a program that takes a step forward each and every year, the New England Wolves. Tim Kunes joins the podcast (1:04) to look back on what his EHL team accomplished this past season, including the playoff run that took them all the way to Semi-Final Saturday in Providence. Further along, the #ECrew teams up (14:17) for another top-10 selection, fueled by some great stories of the past.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we feature one of the newer franchises in the EHL, the Protec Jr. Ducks. Heading into just their third season in the league, Terry Watt joins the podcast (1:23) to discuss positives and the negatives that the program has endured over their first two years. From the pandemic season, to a new facility this fall, Watt and the Ducks have encountered plenty of hurdles along the way, but have overcome those hurdles by quickly establishing themselves as a program to keep an eye on. To wrap things up (16:21), the #ECrew assembles the Top 10 list for the Ducks, which includes some of 15 NCAA Commitments that the franchise has racked up over the first two years.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we officially welcome Nic Cota back to the EHL. Cota played for the Express Hockey Club back in the inaugural campaign of the league, the 2013-14 season, and he now returns for season #10, ready to serve as the new Head Coach in Walpole. Cota joins the podcast (1:14) to talk about how things have come completely full circle for him, and how he can't wait for his team's first game on September 17th. Further along, the #ECrew gets back together (13:08) for another Top 10 selection, featuring plenty of debate and discussion.
On this week's episode of the #EShow we feature a program that has appeared in all four editions of the EHL Frozen Finals, the New Hampshire Avalanche. Chris Cerrella joins the podcast (1:12) to look back on more than just the 2021-22 campaign, but the past five seasons as a whole, and how his program is just nine commitments away from hitting the 100-mark in their short history. Later on in the podcast, the #ECrew reunites (16:06) to put together a Top 10 list as deep as we've seen so far this off-season.

Rich DeCaprio joins the podcast (1:13) to reflect on what his organization accomplished during the 2021-22 season. This past year included a second Regular Season Championship for the EHL team, and a third Postseason Title for the EHLP squad. Greg Heffernan is getting set for his 2nd year with the program, after helping to lead his team to within a goal of the 2022 EHL Frozen Finals. In the interview with Heffernan (1:12), the Head Coach and GM of the Chiefs reflects on what he learned the most in transitioning from NCAA to juniors. Further along (21:28), the #ECrew comes together to create the latest Top 10 player list of the off-season.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we officially welcome the trio of new EHLP teams to the podcast. This fall marks the start of the 8th season in EHLP history, and with the additions of the Adirondack Jr. Thunder, the Union Jr. Thunder, and the Pennsylvania Huntsmen, the EHLP will have never been bigger with 15 teams set to hit the ice. The podcast begins (1:32) with an interview featuring Glenn Merkosky, who is at the helm up in Adirondack, playing in the same building as their ECHL pro team. Moving along to our second 'Thunder' team (17:02), Sam Tafel joins the podcast to talk about how years of building a youth program have led to this new junior team. Finally, to wrap things up (31:36), Zach Overholtzer is the General Manager for the Huntsmen, and he too felt like the next best step for his organization was to add a junior team at the top.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we officially welcome the pair of new EHL teams to the podcast. This fall marks the start of the 10th season in EHL history, and with the additions of HC Rhode Island as well as the Philadelphia Hockey Club, the EHL will have never been bigger with 19 teams set to hit the ice. The podcast begins (1:18) with an interview featuring James Mello, the former Head Coach of the Railers Jr. Hockey Club and the new Head Coach of the league's newest team in Rhode Island. Further along (19:46), Jeff Perreault comes on the show, as he gets set to lead PHC into the South Division, arguably the toughest division in the 2021-22 season.
On this week's episode of the #EShow, we shift back down to the South Division and feature Team Maryland. It's hard to believe this fall will mark the start of the 5th season for the program in the EHL, as well as Josh Fusco's 4th year at the helm. Fusco joins the podcast (1:09) to reflect on the 2021-22 season, and discuss the resources his program provides to all of their players. To wrap things up (23:46), the #ECrew reunites and puts together the latest Top 10 of the off-season.

Joining the podcast for the very first time (1:07), Gary Gill comes on to talk about his first year at the helm in Vermont. Gill reflects on taking over the team late in the summer of 2021, and talks about how far the group came as an entire organization over the course of the season. On this week's episode of the #EShow we feature a team fresh off their third season in the EHL, and easily their best year in franchise history. After winning just seven games in their inaugural campaign, the Railers increased their win total up to 18 in the 2020-21 season, and then this past year won 28 regular season games and made a playoff run that took them all the way to Semi-Final Saturday at the 2022 Frozen Finals. Sean Bertoni joins the podcast (1:26) to discuss the step that his program took this year, and how the bar has now been set for years to come. Despite the short history to go off of, the #ECrew comes together (14:25) later in the podcast to keep moving along with our Top 10 selections, as we create our list of the best Railers of all-time.

On this week's episode of the #EShow, we kick-off our 10th Anniversary celebration with the 2021-22 EHL Champions, the New Jersey 87's. The podcast starts (1:07) with a conversation with the Head Coach and GM, Adam Houli, who admits that winning the franchise's first EHL title truly hasn't set in yet. Further along we bring the #ECrew back together (14:40), and as we'll do with every team this summer, we select the top 10 players in franchise history.

Ultimately, it was the New Jersey 87's winning it all in the EHL and the Boston Jr. Rangers following suit in the EHLP, but it wasn't easy by any stretch for either franchise. Kicking things off in the Weekly Rundown (2:59), the #Ecrew discusses the four teams that have secured their spot in Providence, and the four other teams that are vying for the final two tickets. As for the EHLP, we're down to the Divisional Finals, as the pieces start to fall into place for next week's Round Robin. After assembling a strong set of all-time lineups throughout the summer, the #ECrew gets challenged with identifying the 'best of the best' this week. The first lineup of the episode features the best 23 players in the eight-year history of the EHL. As for the second lineup, this group of 23 players highlights individuals who have climbed the ladder up from the EHLP to the EHL. The majority of these players have since advanced further onto NCAA hockey, but there is a small core hitting the ice in the EHL this fall, with hopes that their NCAA Commitments are right around the corner.

This fall marks the 5th year for a program that started at just the EHLP level back in 2017. Throughout their time in the league, the 87's have built an annual contender at both levels, EHL and EHLP. The hard work came to fruition with each club advancing to the Frozen Finals this past March, capped off by a Championship Sunday that Adam Houli and Matthew Kiernan will never forget, as they claimed their first EHLP title. Adkins and Walker are a pair of forwards heading into their junior year at UMass Boston, but are also known as the 'Men in Blades'. Last summer, Adkins and Walker rollerbladed from Massachusetts to Michigan in an effort to raise money for the American Cancer Society. July of 2021 feels a little bit different from July of 2020 for Watt, as he and the Ducks prepare for their 2nd season in the EHL. The inaugural campaign went as well as the program could have wanted, as the league managed its way through the pandemic hockey season. After finishing in 3rd place in the south and placing all of their age-out players into NCAA hockey, Watt's got his sights set on taking a step further this year, and the end goal is to make it to Providence.

Coming over from Hartford, Chris Cerrella helped establish an instant contender when he arrived in New Hampshire (1:27). Along with the impressive commitment totals that the Avalanche have posted, they've also appeared in all 3 Championship Games that the league has hosted at the EHL Frozen Finals. After winning it all in 2018 and 2019, Cerrella and the Avalanche lost to the Rangers in overtime this past March, thus, the revenge tour has begun for this upcoming year. The annual event takes place over Memorial Day Weekend and brings together over 400 players and 150 scouts. After 12 seasons of serving as the Head Coach at Western New England University, Heffernan is ready to take on a new challenge. The native of Ontario inherits a program on the rise in the EHL, coming off their first playoff series victory this past March. Heffernan hopes to help the program continue to take forward steps from the moment he arrives and in the years to come. Josh Fusco has been with the organization for a pair of seasons, and has helped guide Maryland a step further in each respective year. From the franchise's first playoff victory, to their first series win, Fusco's leadership has led to on-ice success during the month of March, along with an NCAA Commitment total that more than doubled this past season. Steven Brown is the Associate Head Coach of the RoughRiders, and serves as Eric Lind's right-hand man. Brown and Lind are the only coaching duo that has remained intact and in the same location for all eight seasons of the EHL. Brown takes time on the podcast to talk about his relationship with Lind, as well as look back on what was in his opinion the toughest season of coaching he's ever gone through. Since this past week's episode was released, the state-by-state restrictions continue to fluctuate. Every day brings a new hurdle, but the #Eshow is set and ready to overcome each and every one of them.
The #Ecrew is back with our Season Preview for the 2020-21 campaign. The 8th season of the EHL is set to kick-off this Friday, and while we will be faced with many challenges this upcoming year, the EHL is determined to complete a full regular season and postseason schedule. Episode #37 breaks down the different state-by-state restrictions in the #Eshow, and includes our first set of picks for the 2020-21 #Ecrew Fantasy Challenge.
Mike LaZazzera took over the reins for the New York Apple Core, a total of four games into the 2019-20 season. As the year progressed, his team got better, finishing the year off with a record of 6-5-2 after the January Showcase. Unfortunately the late surge was too little too late to get New York into the playoffs, but served as some nice momentum for the coach to bring with him into the offseason.
Terry Watt and the Protec Jr. Ducks will be kicking off their inaugural season on Monday, September 21st against the New York Apple Core. A former junior hockey player, Watt was the captain of the Walpole Express back when they had Chris Cerrella, the current Head Coach of the New Hampshire Avalanche, behind the bench. After juniors, Watt followed through with his NCAA Commitment to Buffalo State and then enjoyed a nine-year pro career. Shortly after calling it a career as a player, Watt jumped right into coaching, and it has now all come full circle for him to end up back in the spot that he benefited from the most during his playing days.
Michael Grace and the Maine Eclipse will be kicking off their inaugural season in less than a month. Coming over after spending three years as an Assistant Coach with King's College, Grace knows the challenges that lie ahead for his program. Regardless of the wins and losses that await his team, Grace and the rest of the Eclipse staff are set and focused on making their players better each day that they walk into the facility. One step at a time, and the program will grow quickly in the EHL.
Eric Lind and Steven Brown have been coaching together longer than any other duo in the league. When the EHL begins its 8th season this fall, Lind and Brown will be the only coaches to have been at the helm of a single organization for all eight years. As time has passed their bond has grown stronger, and their chemistry is similar to that of a pair of forwards who always know where the other one will go next with the puck. Along with the growth in chemistry has been a consistent effort of success, averaging over 25 wins and 10 NCAA Commitments per season, since the league was formed back in 2013.
Brett Tryder is leading the way again this year, as the Seacoast Spartans embark on their 2nd season in the EHL. After putting up 17 wins and 10 NCAA Commitments during their inaugural campaign, Tryder is ready to see his team take another strong step forward this upcoming year. Overall, this will be Tryder's 3rd season serving as a Head Coach in the league, and in his mind, recruiting has only gotten easier over the years.
Jim Mosso is heading into his 3rd full season as the Head Coach and General Manager of the EHL team for the Vermont Lumberjacks, however, this will be his 6th year overall with the organization. After being named the EHLP Coach of the Year following the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, Mosso took over the EHL reins halfway through the 2017-18 campaign. With every season the Lumberjacks have raised the bar from the previous year, and Mosso gives a lot of credit to the players that have trusted the process, as well as the league that has developed a strong identity.
Andy Sutton, the Owner and CEO of Verbero Hockey, joins the podcast this week to discuss the new partnership with the EHL and EHLP. Included in the topics of discussion are Sutton's thoughts towards the current status of the hockey world. As a former NHL player, Sutton believes this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs may be the toughest of all-time.
The #Ecrew is back for episode #29 of the podcast. Neil Ravin is joined by Jefferson Mills and Brittany Hart to review the offseason to date. While one of the major topics of conversation is the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the #Ecrew also discusses the upcoming season in the EHL and EHLP. Josh Fusco is heading into his 2nd season as the Head Coach and General Manager of Team Maryland, and 5th year in the EHL. Prior to joining Maryland, Fusco served in the same exact role with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. Overall, there are plenty of similarities between the Knights and Maryland, but also many differences. After helping lead the Knights to the 2018 EHL Frozen Finals, the program went away, and thus created a new challenge for Fusco. For the veteran coach, his main focus was staying in the EHL, and he took over a program that needed a fresh restart.
Working as a cohesive unit, Andrew Trimble, Tim Kunes, and Connor Bates have brought the New England Wolves program a long way over the past few years. Every season they make a step forward, both on and off the ice. From setting new high-marks for win totals, to winning an EHLP Championship and the Humanitarians of the Year Award (twice), every season brings the Wolves another step closer towards the top of the league. Tim and Connor are the guests on this week's podcast, as they discuss where the bar has been set for the upcoming 2020-21 campaign.
Mark Catron is heading into his 3rd year serving as the Head Coach and General Manager for both Philadelphia Little Flyers teams in the EHL and EHLP. Prior to taking on the lead role, Catron was just the bench boss for the EHLP team, and has been with the organization for six total seasons. Every year brings a different and unique challenge, with this year being by far the most interesting offseason to date, in terms of recruiting.
James Mello is the Head Coach of the EHL team, working underneath Mike Addesa I (General Manager), and alongside fellow coaches Brian Addesa, Sean Bertoni, and Mike Addesa III. On this week's episode of the podcast, Mello talks about the continuity of the staff, and how much everyone learned throughout their first season in the league.

Drew also discusses this week's challenge that he is taking on in full force, as he sets out to walk 75 miles in 24 hours.
Finding a positive out of the way things ended was hard at first for Rich DeCaprio, the Head Coach and General Manager of the Rangers, but he eventually found the silver lining. The EHL wasn't the only league that had to pull the plug, and simply put, the Rangers organization won the only two trophies that were up for grabs last year. Each team won as much as they possibly could.
Now, turning the page, DeCaprio is hitting the reset button with a handful of returners as well as a group of players climbing the ladder from the EHLP to the EHL. While the Rangers success speaks for itself, DeCaprio also gives a lot of credit to the league his teams play in.
Earlier this week, the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) announced the addition of Joe Bertagna as the new Executive Advisor of the #Eshow. After serving as a commissioner in the NCAA ranks for 38 years, Bertagna is ready for the next chapter in his career, and the challenges that it will bring.
Bertagna jumped on the podcast this week and told stories of the past that included glimpses into his playing, coaching, and administrative days. While it will forever be disappointing the way his final season ended with the Hockey East Association, Bertagna is still beyond proud of how that conference has grown over the last two decades.
Year in and year out, the Wizards are known for being a team that consistently improves as the season progresses. This is ever-apparent when you look at the slow starts the team has had during the months of September and October, compared to the tremendous finishing months of February and March. Every season the team also takes a step further in the playoffs from the year before.
The season prior to the year Falite came on board (2015-16), the Wizards only won eight total games. Since then however, the team has not won fewer than 21, with a pair of 29-win seasons sandwiched in the middle. Tack on a trip to the Frozen Finals, and the Wizards have turned into a team you simply don't want to face in the postseason.
At the EHL level, the New Hampshire Avalanche have claimed the previous two playoff championships at the Frozen Finals in Providence. As for the EHLP, this past year was the first season for the Avalanche at that level, and all indications are that the team will be just as much of a contender as the top-level program.
Chris Cerrella is the Head Coach of the EHL team, and serves as the General Manager for the entire organization. He's very proud of what he's built with Mario Martiniello, the Avalanche owner, but also gives a lot of credit to what the EHL has become over the years.
"I have been in the EHL for my entire coaching career. The best thing about the league is that we don't try to be someone else. We appreciate who we are and we work hard at perfecting it. We work even harder for our players and you can see that by our league's NCAA commitment numbers," said Cerrella.
A little over a year ago Neil Breen took over as the Head Coach and General Manager for the Connecticut Chiefs. Now, as the program gets ready for its 3rd season of junior hockey, Breen continues to set goals for each of his teams. Ideally, each team will win more games and advance further than the previous year, but more importantly, Breen wants to see the program's NCAA Commitment totals grow the most.
"The EHL is a league focused solely on the players," said Breen. "The decisions made by the owners and the responsibilities of the coaches are centered around helping every player reach the next step in their career. I am proud to be a part of it, with a program building each and every year."
Being located right in the middle of the league's footprint is something that Breen believes helps his program, and will continue to lean on that aspect in the future. With a number of NCAA programs right in his backyard, Breen appreciates the fact that his players are being seen every game, and not just during showcase play.
A little over a year ago, Ryan McGrath accepted the position of Head Coach and General Manager for the Valley Jr. Warriors. After spending a total of nine seasons serving as an Assistant Coach at the NCAA Division III level, McGrath returned to junior hockey, where he previously coached from 2006-2009.
McGrath set himself apart from other candidates by presenting his full staff when he interviewed for the position. Together with Andrew Andricopoulos, the new Warriors coaching duo has brought fresh blood to an organization that continues to place players into college, year in and year out. To date, the 2019-20 Warriors have had seven players commit so far, to seven different schools, in five different conferences.
Staying consistent with the previous teams that have been featured so far, the Seahawks Hockey Club and the New Jersey 87s, Cody Campbell and the Walpole Express are seeking to continue making positive strides each and every year. While sometimes that means replacing almost a full roster on an annual basis, Campbell sees that as a positive in that the organization is fulfilling their main responsibilities and helping players achieve their ultimate goals.
For the 28-year-old, Campbell is happy with what he accomplished in his first season as a Head Coach in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), and he gives a lot of credit to how the league has defined itself over the years.
Similar to last week's Team of the Week, the Seahawks Hockey Club, the New Jersey 87s began play as a junior hockey franchise back in the 2017-18 season. However, the difference between the Seahawks and 87's is that New Jersey only had a team at the EHLP level their first year. The previous two years they've fielded teams out of both divisions (EHL and EHL), and in total, the organization has won 161 regular season games.
Adam Houli and Matthew Kiernan are both Co-Owners and Co-Coaches of the franchise, and they strongly believe that the first year in the EHLP helped develop their program the same way the division helps develop players for the EHL. Since they decided they wanted to get involved in junior hockey back in 2015, the 87's have experienced an upward progression with each and every year, and Houli credits that to the EHL being a step above the rest.
Our first team of the week feature highlights the Seahawks Hockey Club, as Bill Zaniboni gets set to turn the page over to season #4 for his program.
In each of the first three seasons, the Seahawks have made a step forward from the previous year. In their inaugural season, the Seahawks won 14 games. That number climbed up to 26 wins and the franchise's first-ever playoff appearance in the 2018-19 season. Then, this past year (2019-20), the Seahawks won 31 games in the regular season and picked up their first-ever postseason victory.
All in all, while the success on the ice has steadily improved, Zaniboni is more concerned with his team's advancement numbers, which currently sit at 29 NCAA Commitments through three years.
The latest edition of the #Eshow talks about training and conditioning during the unprecedented times that we're in. While the majority of players don't have access to ice time right now, the work should not stop. There is plenty that can be done off the ice, to make sure you're ready when the skates come back on.
The guests on episode #14 are Ryan Garrow and David Rosales. Garrow is the current Strength & Conditioning Coach at Saint Michael's College, a role that he recently accepted after spending time in a similar position with the Vermont Lumberjacks. While with the Lumberjacks, one of the players he connected with was Rosales. The 2017-18 EHL Student-Athlete of the Year grew up and developed with the program, spending two years apiece in the EHL and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP).
Rosales is now a sophomore at New York University and the Head Content Architect for HockeyStrengthandConditioning.com. The former Lumberjack helped run all of his team's workouts throughout his junior hockey career. Now, Rosales is trying help athletes focus on the proper aspects they need to while away from the rink; it's all in order to better prepare themselves for when the puck drops again.

The Philadelphia Jr. Flyers have been a staple in the EHL since 2013, and they've helped 38 players advance on to college hockey. The Jr. Flyers also won the 2016-17 EHL Championship, in a truly dream season in Pennsylvania.
Jerry Domish has been the Head Coach and General Manager since the Jr. Flyers came into the league, and he feels ready for the postseason. In order to make a run, Domish knows that he'll have to lean on his leaders like Billy McDevitt, to survive and advance.
McDevitt and the Jr. Flyers' broadcaster Joe Sindoni, each know that they can play with the Connecticut RoughRiders, it's just a matter of taking things one shift at a time.
This week's episode features a program in their third season, that has progressed with each and every year. The Seahawks Hockey Club believes in developing relationships with each other, both on and off the ice. While they have already set a franchise record for wins in a season, their focus still remains on advancing players to the next level.
Bill Zaniboni was named the 2018-19 EHL Coach of the Year, and has been a part of the All-Star Coaching Staff in each of the last two seasons. Zaniboni believes strongly in what both the EHL and the Seahawks have to offer.
Jack Macdonald is one of the players that has bought into what the league and the Seahawks have to offer, coming all the way from Wisconsin to play junior hockey on the Cape. In his second season, he's seen his play develop, along with all of the teammates he's had throughout his time in the EHL.
Looking forward, the Seahawks will not be disappointed if their 2019-20 campaign ends short of a championship, but they still have high hopes of advancing to the 2020 EHL Frozen Finals.
This week's episode features a program in their second season, that has laid a solid foundation for years to come. Team Maryland turned heads instantly at the start of the season, and now as we head towards the EHL Playoffs, they are a definite sleeper to keep an eye on in the Mid-Atlantic Conference.
Josh Fusco is in his 3rd season in the EHL, and his 1st with Team Maryland. Coming over from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights, Fusco has helped Team Maryland make tremendous strides in just their second season in the league.
Evan Green has been with Fusco the past few years, and came over with his coach to serve as the team captain this season. Green and Tristan Mock are the first two commits for Maryland, as the '99 leaders of their team will be joining Becker College together this fall.
Green and Mock are each helping to echo the message that Fusco is delivering to his team, with their sights set on Providence, RI, and the 2020 EHL Frozen Finals.
This week's episode features a program in their inaugural season in the league. After a few years as an independent junior hockey organization, the Seacoast Spartans chose to join the EHL based off of its strong history of placing players into NCAA programs.
Brett Tryder is the Head Coach and General Manager of the Spartans, and a huge fan of the league.
Tryder formerly spent time behind the bench of the New England Wolves, and after a few years away, he jumped at the opportunity when the Spartans job became available. Over the years, Tryder believes that recruiting for the league has gotten easier, surely based off of how strong the EHL has become.
Kurt Mallett serves as the Director of Hockey Operations for the entire Spartans organization, as well as an Assistant Coach for Tryder. In working with the Spartans' ownership, they knew immediately based off of his past experience that Tryder was their guy.
Part of the reason for the confidence had to do with players like Shea Flanagan, who came to the Spartans with Tryder, looking to help lay the foundation for the new program.
This week's episode features a program that has won multiple regular season championships, but the Philadelphia Little Flyers are playing more of an under the radar role this year. Can they make it back to Providence, RI for the 2020 Frozen Finals?
Mark Catron is the Head Coach for both the EHL and EHLP teams, and also serves as the General Manager for each club.
In his second season in this role, Catron credits the success of his former players as well as the league, when discussing the challenges of recruiting. Jacob Berg is a player Catron brought in last year, and the Little Flyers' captain is the latest example of a strong pipeline that has been established from Dallas, TX to Aston, PA.
Berg is very pleased that he found the Little Flyers organization and the EHL, as ultimately these elements of his life will be the reason he plays hockey in college.
This week's episode features a program that has made a step forward with each and every year since entering the league. For the Vermont Lumberjacks, there is just one goal in mind, and that's the 2020 Frozen Finals.

In his second full season with these responsibilities, Mosso has learned more and more with every game and every practice. On this week's episode, the two-time EHLP Coach of the Year talks about adapting from the playoff losses, and working towards earning more time together as a team.
Joining Mosso on the podcast this week, are two of the biggest contributors to this year's success, Logan DiScanio and David Reduzzi. Each player has followed their own path to this point, with this being DiScanio's third year with the Lumberjacks and Reduzzi in the middle of his rookie campaign.
While no other organization is located further north than the Lumberjacks, the team embraces the challenge and feels the extra time spent on the road only helps the group grow closer to one another.

Just like last week's guests, the New Jersey 87s, the Wolves are run by a pair of co-owners/co-coaches in Andrew Trimble and Tim Kunes. Since taking over the program in 2017, the Wolves have made steady progress in both the EHL and the EHLP, each and every season. This year, their goals are big at the EHL level, and even bigger in the EHLP, as they look to repeat as champions.
As for the player on the podcast this week, Rob Haak chose the Wolves and the EHL for his final year of junior hockey and it paid off immediately. The '99 native of Spencerport, NY made his commitment to Morrisville State back in October, and just like the coaches, he wants to see both programs advance all the way to the 2020 EHL Frozen Finals in Providence, RI.
Whether both teams advance all the way or not, the Wolves have become one of the top programs in the #Eshow through a steady progression. One step at a time through one season at a time, and Laconia, NH is a community that has fully embraced their team.

Adam Houli and Matthew Kiernan are the co-owners and co-coaches for the organization that's only in their 3rd year of operating a junior hockey franchise. However, based off of their successes to date, you would never had guessed that.
As for the player on this week's podcast, Andrew Maynard is in his 2nd season with the 87's, and may be the most improved player in the EHL this year. After tallying 24 points in 33 games last season, Maynard already has 43 points in 26 games to date this year.
