Herbert Rogers Kent, whose titles included King of the Dusties and Honorary Mayor of Bronzeville, began his broadcasting career in 1944 at age 16 and spanned 11 different radio stations. In 1952, Kent went to work for WGES/Chicago, the city's largest black-programmed station. From 1955 until 1960, Kent worked at WBEE/Chicago. In 1962, Kent was hired at WVON/Chicago where he worked for 8 years. Herb worked at WGCI AM for 10 years. Kent worked at WVAZ-FM/Chicago from 1988 till his transition in 2016. In 2009, the Guinness World Records certified Herb Kent as the longest-tenured deejay, having at that time spent 66 years on the airwaves in Chicago. In December, 1941, the United States entered World War II’s European Theatre to join the Allied forces of Freedom and Democracy against the Nazi ideals of ethnic and racial purity. One of the Allies’ strongest weapons was the 332nd Fighter Group, 450 Fighter Pilots known as the Tuskegee Airmen. They were called the "Tuskegee Airmen" because they were trained at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama.

**In 1979, Arthur McDuffie, a Black man, was riding his motorcycle in Miami when police chased him, knocked him off his bike, and beat him to death, crushing his head with billyclubs and flashlights. During the trial that followed, all the police were found not guilty. The Black community launched a massive rebellion that rocked Miami and sent shock waves throughout the country. OldSoul, then a prisoner at Leavenworth Federal Prison, wrote this poem about the incident.
