The beginning of a new term or session is usually the time for many teachers to move to new places. For some people, this is necessitated by relocation; others move because they have found that they can do better than their current experience. In any case, moving to a new school, especially one that is a step higher than your last, can be a daunting experience. In this episode, I show you how to make sure that it is not a stroll in a park full of lions.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thebusinessofteaching/message

A lot of reactions have trailed the recent news of the death of Sylvester, a 12-year-old secondary school student in Lagos, who was reportedly beaten up and made to ingest a substance by some other students of the same school.

Many people have demanded justice for Sylvester, and rightly so. But we must do more: we must consider the realities around bullying, and begin to take collective action about it. Fast

So I have been meeting with people in my life from many years ago in recent days and they all have given nearly - immediate comments on my social media activity. What's interesting is that these were not people who regularly engaged with my content. That speaks volumes about the extent our posts can go, and the ideas that such could lead people to form about us. I felt it was important to talk about this.

The education sector in Nigeria is one that is never out of talking points, it appears. One type of argument that seems to come and go is about who qualifies to grace a classroom.

There is a school of thought that holds that a teacher should be someone trained originally for the purpose. Holders of this line of reasoning believe that the ideal teacher must have read several books on the art and science of delivering instruction.

Another school of thought feels that desire and drive carries just about the same weight as specific certification.

What the defenders of the either of the foregoing lines of thought may have overlooked is that, like every other profession, what teaching really needs is the best of minds in the land.

It matters that we come to understand how people become valuable.

It's over a year now since our lives were changed forever, by the unannounced visit of COVID-19. While many people felt the heat, I am of the opinion that teachers were the most hit.

It may appear that all is now well and we may as well get our dancing shoes out in gratitude to God. But that would be a very wrong move.

In life, it usually is not about the things that happen to us, but what we do with the lessons those things pass. It matters that we understand the exact lessons from the lockdown that greeted the nation last year, hold them dear to heart, and let them drive us to better choices going forward.

Of the things not directly stated in the Bible, holiness is one. Scattered around the Scriptures, you'd find references to GOD being holy, places and things used to worship Him demanded to be holy and children of GOD being required to be holy. In fact, GOD Himself directly demanded that we be holy because He is. So then this is serious business. But what constitutes holiness and how can one measure it? Please listen to the end, comment your opinion and share if you see it fit. GOD bless you.
