There is hope in the darkness because the light has come. This beautiful, powerful text of Isaiah 9 is often mentioned around the Christmas time. The depth of the fulfillment of Scripture through the coming of the Messiah as the great king who will rule in the fear of the LORD and establish his kingdom forever comes into sharp focus through this Hebrew poem. It draws our focus to the child born, God with us. There is hope no matter what your circumstances and the darkness of the night because the light of the Son of God has dawned on us!
This special sermon takes a break from our series in Isaiah to meditate on the faithfulness of the LORD in our lives. Ryan Glover shares some of the faithfulness of the Lord in his life and how we see the rich blessing from understanding God's work in the lives of those who have gone before us through the lens of Hebrews 11.
Isaiah 8 is another prophetic word given to Isaiah that involves the naming of a son that is yet to be born to him. This hope is a sign that with the Lord there will be victory. Unfortunately, the people refuse the gentle waters offered by the Lord for Rivers of power, knowledge, fear, and distress instead.
Joby gives us some rich historical background to the people and places mentioned in this chapter. No matter what we are facing we have the hope that God will be with us too.
In this chapter we are invited into the throne room of God where our eyes will be opened to see a glimpse of the glory of the Lord. Before the throne of the Lord of hosts there is power to forgive sins and set people free as well as the power to commission believers to be a living witnesses of the power and grace of God to make disciples of Jesus.
Dan Abbott brings a message of hope through judgement in Isaiah chapter 5. Filled with six "woes" of rooted sin in the life of the Israelites bringing darkness upon the land but ending with the hope of the light of the messiah to come!
This message on Isaiah 4:2-6 brings the hope and treasures believers can anticipate on “that day” when God’s promises are fulfilled. In the midst of the darkness and storms, believers can hold on to the treasures we joyfully anticipate for good through Jesus!
This message on Isaiah 3 explores the themes of loss and transformation, emphasizing how God sometimes removes our supports—like leaders and possessions—to prepare us for something greater.
The message of Isaiah 2 is a divine invitation to choose light over darkness, to come out of hiding, and to walk in communion with God. It calls for repentance, encouraging a turn from the empty pursuits of this world toward a fulfilling relationship with the Creator.
This introductory message to the book of Isaiah considers the historical context and the use of quotes from Isaiah specifically in the book of Mark. Isaiah watches decades of God using the Assyrian army to bring judgement on the rebellious people of God. Like a slow motion train wreck, Isaiah speaks of the impending destruction but offers signs of hope in the Lord for the future!
In response to the mercy and grace of the Lord to the people of Nineveh Jonah burns with anger! The Lord walks with Jonah to offer to turn him from his anger to experience a moment of joy in the covering of the Lord to experience compassion. Who is your person of Nineveh?
Jonah chapter 3 sees the unlikely repentance of the people of Nineveh, even their animals! Everyone seems to turn in the book of Jonah, except for the prophet himself! Paul leads us through the message to stitch the story of Jonah into the broader Biblical narrative and see our continual need to come under the rule of Jesus!
We consider the prayer that Jonah cries to the Lord from the belly of the fish. As he quotes from Psalms it appears that Jonah has turned a new leaf but has he? We consider 4 signs that things are often worse than they appear. With the backdrop of a messed up prophet, we then consider 4 signs that the Lord is always great than you can imagine!
We meet Jonah the prophet of God fleeing from the presence of the Lord. He goes down to Joppa, down to a ship, and then down in the ship. He has to be woken from his sleep as he can't hear or see the movement of God as he hurled a tempest on the ocean. There is no where you can run from the presence of God, either a comforting or terrifying thought.
Ethan Zimmerman introduces the book of Jonah and helps us see how the threads of scripture stitch this famous story into the broader quilt of Scripture.
The question from the Westminster Catechism asks "What is the chief end of man". The answer back is "the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy him forever!" Tom guides us through a series of scriptures that help us to understand the privilege that we have to be able to glorify God and a picture of what that might look like to do in our daily lives.
The Lord encourages us to remember so that we don't forget! We are prone to forget the goodness of God in our lives so we are encouraged to set up stones like the people in Joshua's day as a reminder of the greatness of God.
Moses teaches the people a song from the Lord as they are about to enter the Promised Land. This song is meant to help them remember the Lord's faithfulness, our forgetfulness and the hope we have in the last days.
Balak the king of Moab calls for a seer named Balaam to curse the nation of Israel who is camped in front of the Promised Land. Balaam refuses to curse whom God has blessed and instead speaks oracles that allows us to come to know and believe things that give us confidence as we living the last days. We have confidence because of the character of God, the King who has come and the victory that he has won!
The "Last Days" is first spoken of in the book of Genesis and points to a time where a king from the line of Judah will interrupt the curse of sin and death and bring hope, salvation, and blessing. Our hope in the last day rests on Jesus who came to pay the penalty for our sins and offer forgiveness and grace to all who submit to his authority. This powerful Hebrew prophetic poem gives us a picture of the coming king that is fulfilled in Jesus!
One of Hollyview's elders Mike Miller looks at the seventh day of creation as it is set apart from the rest of creation. The beginning of the rest from God begins on day seven but hasn't ended. That rest is offered to us today!
One of Hollyview's elders leads us through this rich passage of scripture to highlight that in Christ we are free from law of sin and death and free to live for Christ and His glory. Works of the law will never satisfy and make us whole like the gift of Jesus can.

This message explores the transformative power of storytelling within the context of sharing the Gospel with a Meta-modern generation. Emphasizing the use of parables as narratives that intertwine profound truths with personal reflection, it advocates for engaging cultural change by recapturing imagination through stories that resonate deeply and provoke spiritual awakening.
The fourth principle offered to engage the Meta-Modern generation with the hope of the Gospel emphasizes the transformative power of words. It draws from Isaiah's experience and personal testimony to illustrate how faithful proclamation of the Gospel shapes both our own hearts and calls others to life. It calls believers to speak about Jesus with love and authenticity, integrating it naturally into everyday conversation to bring life and hope to others.
Principle number three of engaging the meta-modern generation with the hope of the gospel focuses on the idea of the priesthood of all believers drawing from the Exodus narrative and the Protestant Reformation. The communal nature of faith leads believers to embrace their identity as priests which reshapes their perspective, community, and outreach. With the pessimism of authority so prevalent in today's world, the greatest evangelist of this next generation will be a worshiping community of Jesus followers.
This message offers principle #2 of engaging a Meta-Modern generation with the hope of the gospel with truth and grace. Following Jesus' example to empathize with human weakness and the power of humility in relating with others. We see that weakness can build bridges, fostering relationships and understanding. Weakness can build sympathy, creating common ground for connection and our weakness can bring God glory! Where we are weak, He is strong! We are encouraged to step out of our comfort zones to those on the margins, embodying Christ love and compassion in practical ways.
This message emphasizes the importance of seeing beyond the outward appearances and recognizing the divine image within each person. We go back to the forest, and see the illustration of how we can often miss seeing people for the cultural forest. Jesus encourages us to move past superficial judgments to uncover the inherent value and dignity present in every individual and call people to flourish in life by reflecting their creator.
There is a tension in how to respond to people in a changing culture. In the same way the Father sent Jesus, so he is sending us into a dark and broken world to be a light to bring proclaim the good news of salvation through Jesus! Some people separate and abandon the generation, some confront to attack, while others give way and just accept the new way. Jesus came demonstrating a better way. He came full of grace and truth!
Our faith in God compels us to look forward with hope to the next generation. We live in an incredible moment at the beginning of a generational change that opens the wonderful opportunity to share the good news of Jesus. The church needs people like the men of Issachar who had understanding of the times and knew what they ought to do.
Second message in a short series on Revelation 1. God begins his judgement with the people of God! This sobering fact should cause us to approach the world with humility as we have been forgiven much!
Guest speaker Paul Fredrick introduces the book of Revelation by showing the Old Testament smoothie. There are themes and images in the Biblical narrative that help demonstrate that Jesus is God and fulfillment of the hope for humanity!

This Easter message continues the series through Zechariah and weaves together biblical prophecy, historical narrative, and personal reflection to offer a compelling invitation to encounter the grace and mercy found in Christ's sacrificial love. It will encourage you to respond to the invitation by placing your trust in Jesus and experiencing the transformative power of His pierced hands.
Zechariah is given a message for the people that prophecies about the day when their great king would come to Jerusalem, humble and riding on a donkey. The first half of the chapter gives the reason to respond in the coming day of the Lord and the second half the reason to rejoice for those who eagerly await his coming!
The message you listen to shapes your future. The message of God's desire to fellowship with his people has been sung since the beginning in creation. We hear this message through God's promises, his faithfulness and his power and truth and that message is an invitation to everyone!
An unlikely group of people from the wrong side of town turn their attention to the Lord to hear his response to a question of a religious practice they had been doing for the last 70 years. Where you turn your attention begins the process of changing your heart!
We conclude the 8th vision and consider a possible connection to the Biblical theme of mountains representing the presence of the Lord. After the vision, the Word of the Lord instructs Zechariah to preform a symbolic act of crowning the high priest Joshua. We behold a picture of the man called 'the branch' that foreshadows the messiah who will come and build the temple of the Lord through the church!
This stand alone message considers an interesting episode in the life of Jesus and his disciples. Jesus comes upon a crowd of people arguing with the disciples over the failed attempt to cast a demon from a boy. Dan leads us through three different perspectives of the faith that people have when coming to Jesus.
The next two visions are of a flying scroll and a woman in a basket. The visions reveal that we have a serious problem! The visions demonstrate our sin revealed and then the good news of our sin removed.
Believers in Jesus have been invited by faith to be mountain movers! It's not instant or flashy but connected to the the Spirit, walk by wisdom, faithfulness, and strategy as we put our hands to build a brick at a time!
We consider the fourth vision given to Zechariah of the high priest named Joshua which means Yahweh saves. Tom West leads us through the need, means, method, and results of salvation.
NAB regional minister Steve Weisenburger shares some of his story along with biblical principles from a powerful chapter from the life of David.
The third vision given to Zechariah of a man with a measuring line on his way to measure Jerusalem. God wants to lift his eyes to see how God is working out his purpose and plan.
Zechariah is shown the first of two visions from the Lord. The message considers the meaning of the images of the 4 horsemen, 4 horns, and the 4 craftsmen. We see that the Lord is patiently waiting for his people to return to him while still building his kingdom.
This messages begins with the background and context for the role of prophets in the Bible and Zechariah particularly. They are like covenant sheepdogs who move at the command of the good shepherd for the good of the sheep to direct, warn, and gather them.
This overview of Esther considers her priestly role to the nation as she dresses in royal robes to approach the king in the inner court on behalf of her people. The story of Esther points us to Jesus our great high priest who completes the work foreshadowed in this book.
Love is the faithful act for the highest good of another. Love steps into the brokenness of someone else for their benefit. The greatest display of love began with a Holy God stepping into humanity to bring us forgiveness and salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Joy is that powerful emotion that moves your soul to the heartbeat of the Father. Joy is available at all times to believers that draw near to the Father through laughter or tears!
Peace is the inward state of being whole and complete knowing that you are in the potter's hand. God can reform the clay and complete the work that he began in you through the righteousness of Jesus that came down in love to offer salvation.
Hope is securing yourself to a future promise of God today. If the anchor is firm and the rope is strong it will catch you when you fall and carry you through.
In Paul's final words to the Philippians believers, he encourages them to take their stand in the Lord. The peace of God will guard your heart, head, and your hands to learn contentment.
Paul gives encouragement to believers to have a heavenly mindset to be earthly good. As we await the return of our great King, we live humble lives looking to the goal of our faith the hope of the resurrection.
Paul counted everything as a loss compared to the worth of knowing Jesus. This desire was more than knowing about Jesus but a personal relationship with him! Nothing else would satisfy like knowing Jesus personally.
Guest speaker Todd Miles brings the next message on Philippians. Partners in the gospel work out their salvation by orienting their lives by the Word of Life and the Day of Christ, not according to our world’s broken values.
As believers we are able to experience unity because of what we share in Christ! This hope filled message encourages us to look to Jesus' example as we humbly serve each other!
As believers in Jesus, we live in between two worlds with a hope and a calling. As citizens of the Kingdom of God, through salvation in Jesus, we are sent as ambassadors of reconciliation to a broken world as we eagerly long to experience the fullness of the Kingdom of God. The Gospel helps us navigate as we live with the tension of our hope and calling.
Paul, in prison, chained to guards is able to find joy in all circumstances! He knows the meaning and mission for which God called him.
God builds his kingdom through Gospel partnerships. It's through relationships that pray for one another, knowing that God is working in them, and having a deep love and care for one another!

In this chapter we are encouraged to walk to the sound of the gospel music in something like a dance with each other. Paul has encouraged us to be unified and yet still hold to the unique gifting and calling the Lord has for us. With this unity in diversity, sometimes we will step on each others toes and begin dancing to the song of anger or hurt. Paul encourages us to dance to the gospel!
The battle between the goal of self-actualization or humble self-sacrifice. The world encourages one and the gospel displays the other.
God's revealed mission for the church is a beautiful kaleidoscope of people living together in unity from every tongue, tribe, and nation!
Paul wants to wake the believers up from death to life by God's grace and from hostility to peace by the Spirit. He wants to wake us up to this new creation we are and the community we are in!

We take a look at one of the Psalms in the collection of Psalms known as the Psalms of Ascent. Who can ascend the hill of the Lord and who can stand in his holy place? There is one who is worthy, the King of Glory!
Psalm 115 is found within a collection of Psalms known as the 'Hallel' Psalms meaning to praise. This Psalm suggests humans have been made as something like an angled mirror. What you put your trust in has a huge impact on what you become and what you reflect.
This Psalm gives us a different perspective on how we engage in the future by reaching back to what you know and have experienced. We consider 4 mountains mentioned in this Psalm as we remember how God has moved and worked in the past! When you face the unknown of the future, turn your eyes to the Lord and his faithfulness in the past.
God is always there with you. That thought can either be comforting or produce fear depending on your situation or stance. This Psalm progresses in thought to lead us to respond by laying our hearts, minds, and wills before God and to entrust him with every aspect of our lives that he already cares to know anyway.
Within the greater context of the Psalter, we follow the death, resurrection, and now the ascension of Jesus in Psalm 22, 23, and 24. There is only one, who is worthy to ascend the mountain to stand in the presence of God. The Lord who overcame the chaotic waters, the one with a pure heart and clean hands. We find ourselves among the generation of people who are looking for this one. Among those who seek a personal relationship with the God who wrestled with their forefather Jacob. Join the celebration when you find Jesus! To find your blessing in the conquering king who returns to his throne!
Psalm 23 is a favorite passage of scripture for so many! It has been memorized, quoted and sung for thousands of years. The power of this Psalm is found in it's fulfillment in Jesus! We follow the journey of a sheep from the green grass, to the valley of the shadow of death, on a journey to sacrifice on the hill of the Lord in God's house. There in the temple we are invited to the table where the feast has been prepared by Jesus, the lamb of God sacrificed his life for his sheep. Jesus, the lamb of God becomes our good shepherd which allows us to pray this beautiful Psalm as well! God graciously leads us through every season of life!
Psalm 15 is a literary masterpiece as it presents a central focus to the Psalm. At the heart of the law you will find a relationship with Jesus the King!
The majesty of our Great God and Creator is displayed in the humble weakness of humanity! The unfathomable majesty displayed in the universe is revealed on earth through the cry of a child! The glory of God is perfectly displayed in the service and suffering of Jesus to redeem humanity!

The great doors of the Psalms begin in chapter 1 with "blessed is the man" and end in 2:12 with "blessed are all who take refuge in him." The 'him' is the Son, the King, the Anointed of God, the blessed man. We find our refuge, strength, and blessing by being found in the blessed man! Psalm 2 is the song of the gospel as nations rage, the Lord responds and the king reigns! How will you respond?
Blessed is the man... we often come to the Psalms looking at them like a mirror in which we see ourselves. This first of two great gates to the Psalms is a window for us to see the image of the blessed man, the one against the many. He does nothing wrong and everything he says comes from the Word of God. We don't find our blessing in how good of a person we are, we find our blessing by finding our refuge in the blessed man!
On the cross, Jesus quotes from Psalm 22. This rich Psalm is broken down into 3 stanzas that lead us on a journey from the cross to the resurrection. We see the tension, the trial, and finally the triumph in victory over the grave! A 1,000 years before Christ came, David through this Psalm prophesied about the death and resurrection of Jesus!
Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! This well known hope and prayer was a symbol to the nation of Israel that their king had come!
This introductory message demonstrates the composition and different perspectives of reading the Psalms. Much like a quilt, the book of Psalms contains the original songs of prayer and praise to the LORD written by men who lived through the struggles and triumphs of what it means to be a human. Those 150 psalms, were then stitched together in such a way as to reveal the Messiah, Jesus! Psalms is not primarily a book of humanity going to the divine but the divine coming down to humanity and Psalms is his story, the story of Jesus, the story of the Gospel! It is through the power of Jesus that we then pick up the Psalms and find them so meaningful to us!

Jesus gives his disciples some final instructions before they face the coming trials. He tells them that he is the true vine, the true Israel that has come to bring life and bear much fruit. God has made you to be fruitful! If you are abiding in Christ, holding fast to him, and letting go of all that weighs you down, your life is meant to bear fruit, lots of fruit.
The disciples of Jesus were just about to walk through a difficult, confusing, emotional time and Jesus wants to give them areas of comfort and confidence in the darkness. Let not your hearts be troubled!

Jesus wants us to know who he is and he gives us the images of a shepherd, a king and God in the flesh so that we can truly know him. Jesus is the good shepherd, the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy found in Ezekiel of God becoming king in Jesus.

In this controversial scene, the Jewish leaders present this woman caught in adultery for Jesus to judge what they should do with her. Knowing God's word that she was supposed to be stoned to death, Jesus steps in as a substitute and through his eventual death on the cross offers her grace. He then addresses the Pharisees who are blind, in slavery and going to die in their sin unless they repent and believe in Jesus and accept him as their substitute as well.
During the great Jewish celebration of the Feast of Booths, Jesus invites anyone who is thirsty to come to him. He is the Living Water! God works at just the right time, often in unexpected ways and leads us to how God works salvation through the cross of Christ!
Jesus uses the humble offering of a small boy's lunch to satisfy a crowd of 5,000 men. The people are hungry for power and want to make Jesus king but the power of the Kingdom of God is to serve and give your life. The disciples are in a boat at night in a storm and are rowing for safety. It's only when Jesus steps in the boat in the middle of their storm that they will be satisfied. Then Jesus declared that he is the bread from heaven that will satisfy!

He is commanded to get up, take up his bed and walk. Then Jesus shows himself to the Jews in the temple who are trying to fulfill the law but are missing seeing Jesus standing right in front of him.
Jesus gently engages the vulnerable areas of our life to bring healing and hope. On a purposeful trip through Samaria, Jesus meets a woman who has a long history of being abused and rejected by others. A woman who wanted to hide from others is transformed by the loving care of Jesus to become a witness to the whole village of the hope she found in Jesus! He knew everything she ever did and still accepted and loved her.
A teacher of the Jews named Nicodemus is told by Jesus that he must be 'born again'! What does it mean to be born again? How does it happen? How do you know if you have been born again? Jesus talks with him and helps him see that new life in the Spirit is the only way to see the kingdom of God at work in our lives and the world.
John shares the message of two stories as signs that point to the blood and body of Jesus in His death and resurrection as the only way to be cleansed and forgiven. The water that can purify the outside is changed to wine that can purify the heart. The cleansing of the temple will be done by Jesus' own body in his death and resurrection!
Come and see! It's the joyous delight of Jesus to find us! John begins by telling three stories of people that Jesus finds and in turn they find Him! The natural response is to go and tell others, we found him!

Luke begins his gospel account with an introduction to tell us the purpose of his writing. As a doctor, historian, and missionary, Luke wants to give us the gift of certainty in knowing the person and work of Jesus as our savior.
Mark begins his gospel account with quotes from the prophets of the Hebrew Bible. Mark announces the good news of Jesus as the coming King by telling two stories, the story of the prophets and the story of King Jesus!
Matthew begins his gospel account with a beautiful genealogy. The list of names we often skip over in our Bible reading, had profoundly impacted Matthew's own life in changing his perspective and offering hope! Through the hope of the Messiah Matthew presents the genealogy to offer hope of a new beginning, hope of redemption and hop of belonging!
We see in this chapter a prophetic reenactment of what Jesus will do almost 2,000 years later on that same mountain to give his life as a substitute for humanity. God tells Abraham to take his beloved son Isaac and make a 3 day journey to a specific mountain that he will show him. Along this journey, God tests Abraham in at least three ways. 1. Will he withhold the thing he loves the most or will he offer it to the Lord? 2. Will he walk by faith or by what he can see? 3. Will he listen to the voice of the Lord and see life or ignore it and bring death? Abraham passes all three tests and is blessed by the Lord!
We compare the child of promise, Isaac, to the child of slavery, Ishmael. You will only find freedom and life when you come to Jesus and drink from the well of living water. Everything else will fail to satisfy!
What you see and do in moments of decision, when the pressure comes, reveals what is at work in your heart -faith or fear? When you see wrong, you do wrong and hurt the people around you but when you see right, you do right and bless those around you. Abraham once again offers his wife to protect his life out of a heart of fear.
God's compassion extends further than we can imagine. Shortly after Abraham is renamed and all the males in his household are circumcised, three men visit Abraham from the Lord to confirm God's covenant with him. Abraham invites them to eat under a tree with him. As they are leaving to go to Sodom Abraham has a discussion that is a theological exploration of how far does the compassion and mercy of God extend.
There is hope through the covenant that allows us to walk before the Lord and be blameless. With Abram's face on the ground, God pronounces 3 things over Abram. 1. I have given you a new name! 2. I have removed your sin and shame! 3. I have redeemed you, your past and your relationships. Circumcision then is given as the sign of the covenant that points to the place where judgement will meet forgiveness at the cross of Christ!

As Abram and Lot return from Egypt with lots of possessions, life gets uncomfortable and they separate. Lot to a place that he sees as good land even though it is full of wickedness and will end in destruction. God gently leads Abram to be right where He is calling him to be. The absolute best place to be is right where God calls you!
In this pivotal chapter, God calls a man named Abram to use to bring about blessing to the world. God calls people with nothing to offer, who are a work in progress and full of doubts and fears because God is gracious, patient, and merciful! If God can use a broken man like Abram, he can use you!
Slava Bogu! When humanity gives glory to God they find their peace, meaning and goodness. When people try to glorify themselves, when nations try and make a name for themselves it leaves behind a trail of brokenness, isolation and pain.
Guest Speaker Geoff Hart teaches on the table of nations that changes our perspective of others in the world. We are all "cousins" that should long for reconciliation. He spends the last half of the messages sharing about Hispanics for Christ, a ministry Hollyview partners with.
Noah is given a second chance to start again in this recreation account, only to fall into the same pattern of sin as Adam, the same pattern that we all fall into. The good news is that God steps into the story and makes a covenant of grace with humanity. It's not a promise that one day humanity will get it right but that God will make a way to break the power of sin. The sign of this covenant is a bow God hangs in the clouds.
There is a purpose in every storm the Lord allows you to walk through. The flood narrative presents a picture of God working in Noah's life in preparing him to walk by faith, protecting him in the ark in the middle of the storm, and producing in him a heart of praise. God is at work in the storms of your life as well!
The best way to navigate this broken, chaotic, often violent world is to walk with God. In this section we see the example of several people that walked with God and found identity, deliverance, and relief.
This world is full of injustice. There are so many times when we say, it’s just not fair, it’s not right! How should we respond to the injustice that we face? Justice is only ever perfectly fulfilled in Jesus, we will see that we are to point people to Jesus and offer grace upon grace.
The seed of sin is planted in our world through the disobedience of Adam. The fruit of that sin inflict pain and brokenness through all humanity! But, at the first occurrence of sin, God gives us the seed of the Gospel, the first good news that brings life. God pursues sinful people in gentle love to lead them to repentance.
God places man in the garden of delight with the desire that he delight in both his calling and the community. He gives man meaningful and missional work to do as a priest and a uniquely other that would be united with him.
God begins the story of the Bible with the song of creation. We begin with it being formless and empty so God in a purposeful pattern forms and fills the earth. Then on day 7 he ceases from his work and he himself fills the space that he had created to be in relationship with humanity. It's a beautiful, meaningful beginning!
The Lord is calling, whom shall I send and who will go for us! He is calling but we don't always hear, he is inviting us to join him in mission but we aren't always listening. From the example of Isaiah, we pause at the end of the year to ask the Lord where is He calling us and what is our next step?
The book of Samuel ends at a significant place in both Israel's history and future. On the threshing floor in Jerusalem, we see the striking hand of God, the stayed hand in mercy and finally the satisfied hand of God where judgement meets mercy in the sacrifice of Jesus!
David's last words are full of hope because of the promise of the coming messiah who will bring a new creation and new life that all point to baby Jesus coming in a manger. The light has broken through the darkness and offers hope to all who receive him!
David's life in many ways shadows the life of Moses. He gets to the end of his life and sings a song of God being his Rock! This Rock pictures a firm foundation and salvation in the wilderness. For David it meant that the Rock rescued him, redeemed him and is his salvation!
King David begins his triumphal entry back into Jerusalem and pauses at the Jordan River to meet 3 different people who all have had some interaction with David on his way out of Jerusalem. All of them are met by the grace of the king and demonstrate the kingdom of God is marked by grace upon grace!
The hearts of the people are swayed towards David's son Absalom in his rebellion against the king. We focus on David's advisor Ahithophel who changes his service to Absalom and the advice he gives him that is shaped by revenge and anger towards David. Our words, actions and thoughts all begin with the heart.
God's desire is to bring the lost child home so they not remain an outcast. As long as there is breath in your lungs, as long as there is life there is hope. The story is not over yet and God is weaving together this beautiful story to bring the lost one home.
There is a battle raging for your heart and soul! We look at this well known story of David on his roof seeing a beautiful woman and taking her. His sin leads to more sin until he finally kills an innocent man. From this passage we look at 3 signs you are loosing the battle for your heart and 4 signs you are winning the battle.
There is hope for the broken because the loving-kindness of our king offers protection, provision and position in his kingdom. It's our job to respond by acknowledging our brokenness and accepting the invitation!

This important chapter serves as a North Star for believers that points to Jesus, the seed of David whose throne and kingdom will be established forever and build a house for God's name! It speaks for Jesus as the King whose authority and kingdom will last forever and he will build the house of God, a worshiping community of Jesus followers!
In this chapter, we see the signs of David responding to the Lord with a half-heart, appearing to follow the Lord but in his own way, no-heart as hurt and disappointment motivate David to abandon God's presence for 3 months and then finally a whole heart as David is forgiven, free and worshiping the Lord!
In this section, David is at the top of the world! The first story is about David uniting the kingdom, he wins a decisive battle and builds a house and a name for himself in Jerusalem. This external glory covered some internal rot in the life of David that would eventually lead to his downfall. The second story of a battle with the Philistines demonstrated David's humbleness to inquire of the Lord first and obey his commandments. To see the Lord break through in power in our lives, we need to live humbly, daily dependent on the Lord.
Guest speaker Eric Wood. In this violent chapter we are guided to see the importance of waiting on the Lord and how David gives us an example of what we are to be doing while we wait.
The gentle kindness of God's anointed king changes the heart of all the people like no sword can do. Abner, the commander of the enemies army, relates with three different people in our story, Ish-Bosheth betrays him, David accepts him and Joab kills him. The challenge for believers is to reflect the character of the king and offer mercy when we want to bring the sword.
We long to experience true unity but as humans we tend to divide into camps. It's only when we humbly follow God's anointed King that we can experience unity even in the midst of differing perspectives and opinions.
How could David mourn the death of a man that had caused so much pain and frustration in his life? The news on the third day of the sacrifice of the son of the king on a mountain allowed David to honestly mourn a man that had deeply wounded him. We discover riches in the poetic lament David offers at the opening of this book.

Christ return is certain. He repeats 3 times in these few verses the line "behold, I am coming quickly!" The question for you is are you ready? If you are eagerly awaiting Christ's appearance are you living with a posture of preparation while you wait?
The vision changes from a city to a garden and the description of what the people of God will do in this eternal home. We will worship in response to the goodness of God. We will see his face as we are known and know our savior in deep relationship. We will reign as we enjoy the work and creative skills God has given us without the thorns and brokenness of sin!
The aim of the Christian life is not a place but a person. The angel shows John a vision of a city to help us see the picture of who we are as a people of God. We get a picture of our purity, our redeemed past, our purpose and at the center is the picture of God's presence.
We turn to the last pages of the Bible to discover the truth about our eternal home. We see what it is not. There is no more sea meaning that death, pain and sorrow are no more! We see what it is. It is a 'new' heaven, earth and Jerusalem. Not new in terms of time but new in terms of quality. We see where it is at. God comes to dwell with man, heaven comes down to earth. The vision of the destination gives us encouragement and strength not to just endure this world but to pray that "thy Kingdom come!"
As we come to the end of 1 Samuel, we are provide with the opportunity to stop and take to heart the life lessons learned from Saul and David. Sitting 'shiva' under the tree reflecting on how we ought to live.
Deception often comes from the root of fear. We are afraid of being known, getting hurt or being rejected so we put on a disguise to deceive others. In these two chapters we consider two stories, one concerning David and the other of Saul both trying to deceive.

The brokenness of hurting people hurting people, repaying evil for evil is only stopped with a righteous mediator that gives their life as a substitute. Where justice is restored, and wrongs are made right, and forgiveness is the currency of the kingdom.

It begins in a place of humbleness and tears, considers what we are pursuing to fix what is broken, encounters a risen Lord and then receives a calling to be his witness.

It robs and steals your peace and joy and leaves you confused and lost. When you feel your heart drifting to something to put your hope in, ask what it is you really desire. Only hope in Jesus truly satisfies!

No one can stand before a holy God, we all need someone to intercede on our behalf! Knowing that Jesus has brought us near and made a way for us to approach a holy God should change our perspective to come worship and our interaction with others! In these chapters the ark of the Lord is passed around like a holy hot potato and we see that no one can stand before a holy God.
In this tragic chapter, we see the ark of the Lord being captured and the glory of God is no more in Israel. We spend some time thinking about what glory means as well as hear two warning to us in dealing with the glory of God.
The boy Samuel hears the calling from the Lord in a time when the Word of the Lord was rare. He hears God's calling when others can't and responds with "Here I am." He was humble and available.

Several years after God answers Hannah's prayer for a child she returns to the tabernacle and prays a prayer of praise in the same place she had poured out her soul in grief. The prayer of worship comes from a personal experience with a personal God with hope of a king that would come and set things right. Hannah's prayer highlights how God looks on the lowly, humble, and hungry to raise them up and fill them!

Because of the resurrection of Jesus, elect exiles find their identity in being a people of a living hope, an inheritance and salvation.
The story of Ruth is all about Redemption! A deliverance, a buying back, a restoration and rescue. In the last chapter we explore 3 stories of redemption as Boaz redeems Ruth, the son of Ruth redeems Naomi and God redeems Israel. Ruth's story is our story as well and redemption is offered to us through the death and resurrection of the Son of Ruth - Jesus Christ!
God's sovereignty had led Ruth to a worthy man's field named Boaz. When Ruth tells her mother-in-law Naomi, she quickly comes up with a plot to "help" God's plan. Naomi would use Ruth in placing her in a vulnerable position all alone. Boaz on the other hand loved Ruth and protected, pursued and provided for her.
A focus on the character development of three people Naomi, Ruth and Boaz. What seems to 'just so happen' is God's sovereign plan working out for the good of them all, even Naomi!

A scribe tests Jesus with a question of what is THE Great Command. Out of the 613 commands which one is the greatest? Jesus response was simple and two fold, love God and love others!
The Pharisees come and test Jesus with a question about taxes but get an object lesson of being stamped in the image of their creator. The Sadducees come and test Jesus with a question concerning the resurrection of which they don't believe in. Jesus once again amazes them by revealing the character of God in his power and creativity not limited by their understanding or imagination.
In Jesus patience and grace he leads us to see our blind spots, weakness and sin so that we can respond and receive forgiveness and freedom. Jesus leads us to see clearly our own blindness, his glory and an opportunity to respond to his call.

From the mountain to the valley where they encounter a man with his son who is suffering and Jesus heals him. Then the disciples go fishing to pay for the temple tax because the "sons are free." The beloved Son of God becomes the son of man to heal and free the sons and daughters of men. Jesus suffering reveals His glory!

First, the disciples will have to get over 3 fears before giving bread to others: Am I good enough? Are they good enough? Do I have enough?
The resurrection of Jesus changed everything! Jesus, the first-fruit from the dead sets our hope on resurrected life and the final destiny of a new heaven and a new earth. From that place, the King announces from the throne "I will make all things new!" The redemption and recreation of what we know to be made perfect and new!

The people recognize the fulfillment of Psalm 118, this is the Day that the Lord has made, quick grab some branches! The power of the kingdom is displayed by moving toward the broken, being full of compassion and offering hope. He uses the map of the temple to seek the hurting to offer a deeper hope of eternal life and forgiveness of sins.
