In a world of endless options, why do relationships feel more fragile than ever? The secret to lasting love isn’t more choices—it’s exclusivity. In this message, we explore why true intimacy requires commitment, boundaries, and focus. If you want a relationship that lasts, maybe it’s time to rethink how you approach love.
We all long for deep, lasting relationships—but real intimacy doesn’t happen by accident. In a world that often prioritizes convenience over commitment, how do we build relationships that truly endure? Whether you're married, single, or somewhere in between, discover how aligning your relationships with God’s design leads to greater love, trust, and fulfillment.

In this message, we’re talking about how to win at work—not just by working harder, but by changing how we see work itself. If work feels frustrating, empty, or like a never-ending grind, this is for you!
We all want to win at life, and every year, we think about what we could do differently to get ahead. But what if winning wasn’t about doing more—but about doing the right things, consistently, for the right reasons? And what if there was a way to create a structure for life that helped us win not just today, but for a lifetime?

For too long the church has been known for what it’s against. We want to be known for what we’re For. 15 years ago, 24 adults and 32 kids set out to start a church that is For Austin. And if we’re going to be For Austin, we have to create space for the people of Greater Austin.
What if we built a center point in our community to connect? A place that is home to Northpoint on Sunday, but that benefits our community every day? What if we could really be… For Austin - for people, for the next generation, and for our community?

Political divisiveness is nothing new. Even Jesus had to navigate tricky political situations. In this 2 part series, we are reminded that God is in charge. And if we are truly Jesus followers, we are called to do as he did - think before we speak or act, and to love others no matter what – even if we totally disagree with them.
Jesus was able to disagree politically, culturally and theologically and still love unconditionally. And that is his hope for us - his followers. Can you imagine a world in which we did the same?

In this 5 part series “The Way of Jesus”, we talk about who Jesus is, what following Him looks like, and why life is better in relationship with Him. We will explore his declaration “I am the way, the truth, and the life” and what that actually means. And we will consider that maybe Jesus is not just a means to an end but is the answer to all we’ve been looking for and the only provider of genuine fulfillment.

And we will consider that maybe Jesus is not just a means to an end but is the answer to all we’ve been looking for and the only provider of genuine fulfillment.

God designed us to live in relationship with one another. Then why is it so hard to make and maintain friendships as adults? In this message, we learn there are practical steps to help prioritize community and pursue meaningful relationships. What if it was as easy as “showing up” and “being real”?

What if the church was the safest place to be real AND was the safest place to discover the ideal?
Scripture:
Galatians 5:22-23
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

In Part 3 of the series “Now What”, we are exploring one of the most confusing and most misunderstood parts of our faith - the Holy Spirit. Some of us may be weirded out when we hear “holy spirit”. Others of us may just be curious and have a lot of questions.

Mixing and matching in faith has caused more harm and confusion than anything else. Most questions and pushbacks surrounding faith have very little to do with Jesus himself and have a lot to do with a misunderstanding or misapplication of the Old Testament.
So who is Jesus really? And the Bible - so many verses, so many traditions. It can’t be boiled down to just loving people as Jesus loved us, can it?

If Jesus is Lord, it changes everything about this life and the next.
If the resurrection is a verifiable event of history, then Jesus is the ultimate answer to every desire of our heart. He is what we’re looking for every time we check our stock portfolio hoping for more, every time we plan our trip around the world to find ourselves, every time we switch relationships or jobs hoping the grass is greener, every time we wonder what is missing, or if we could be happier.

Three words… “It is finished”. In Greek it means, "to bring to an end, to complete, to accomplish”. Good Friday, Jesus' death through crucifixion, reminds us that when Jesus declared “It is finished” it was for all mankind, for all time, and he meant it. It is finished, and now, we simply get to choose to accept the invitation or not.
YOU ARE INVITED!
WHAT: Allowing God to shape you… through the life & example of Jesus.
WHEN: Anytime you’re ready…right now, every day, every moment of every day.
HOW: God…just start talking.
WHY: A full life… less worry, more patience, more trust.
The question isn’t “Are you invited?” The question is…”What will you do with your invitation”?
SCRIPTURE:
Knowing that everything had now been finished, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”
A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of a plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.”
With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:28-30

We just wrapped up our series called “90,000”. 90,000 is the average number of hours a person will spend at work over a lifetime. Our work matters because of who we ultimately work for - God. He sees our work as significant to him, his people, and the world. Catch the entire series on our YouTube channel.
On this episode of Overtime - Jennifer Mazzola, Jeremy Edelen, Jordan Geist, and Kristi Gordon talk about all things work and the impact of our work.

What if you could wake up tomorrow and instead of dreading work, you could wake up filled with purpose? What if the purpose of your work is to contribute good to the world?

In this series, we have been exploring identity. In Part 5, we wrap it all up by addressing the gap between what we know in our minds and what we truly believe in our hearts.
Imagine what would happen in your life if you were to experience this gap closing and you could really see yourself as God sees you. Imagine what would happen in your life if you elevated God’s opinion of you over anybody else’s and allowed his opinion to free you to love others as he loves you. Imagine what would happen in this world as a result. Knowing your true identity changes everything!
SCRIPTURE:
He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. - John 15:2-3
Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. - John 15:4
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. - John 15:12
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. - Galatians 5:22

In this series, we have been exploring identity. In Part 3, we look at the significance of community (who and what we have around us). Healthy community can bring connection, joy and a fresh perspective. And it is an essential space for discovering authentic self alongside others.
Community can influence and transform your identity. God designed us for community - Jesus modeled it. If you are curious about what a healthy community looks like - check out our available groups: https://www.npaustin.com/groups.

SCRIPTURE:
They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” - Mark 2:2-5
But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, “What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!” Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’? - Mark 2:6-9
GROUP QUESTIONS - Part 4:
Who are the people that "carry you" in life? Who sees your value and worth even when you don't feel like you have much to offer? How can you be that person for someone else?
Do you tend to see yourself clearly, or do you struggle with negative self-talk and an "inner critic"? What would it look like to have people around you that see you better than you see yourself?
How have past church or spiritual community relationships impacted you, either positively or negatively? What lessons can you take from both the good and bad experiences?
When was the last time you experienced the "joy of community" - getting to celebrate growth and transformation in another person's life? What holds you back from experiencing that more often?
Do you currently have deep, transformative spiritual friendships? What might it look like for you to pursue those types of relationships more intentionally?
How might dusting off your "mat" - sharing more openly about where God has brought you from - help renew your perspective and allow you to experience Jesus in a fresh way? What would it look like to do that this week?
How have you seen relationships directly influence and shape someone's identity, values and direction in life? How might surrounding yourself with certain people impact your own growth?
What stood out to you most from the message? What is one application you want to make in your relationships as a result?

If you could see you as God sees you, you’d be ok with you too.
In this series, we are exploring identity. It’s a familiar concept yet difficult to define. Oftentimes, our identity becomes contingent on external conditions, qualifications, achievements, or labels.
But what if we were only meant to define ourselves in relation to God - created in his image, loved unconditionally just as we are. Not because of what we’ve done but because of what has already been done for us through the power of Jesus.
Because the truth is - you and God are good.
SCRIPTURE:
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9
10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. - Ephesians 2:10
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” - Matthew 22:36-40
2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. - 2 Peter 1:2

Oftentimes, we define ourselves in relation to someone or something. Our identity becomes contingent on external conditions, qualifications, achievements, or labels. But what if we chose an identity that was non-contingent?
Every one of us is made in the image of God. We have intrinsic value and worth - it cannot be earned or lost. It’s our foundational identity.
As we launch a brand new year, would you be willing to ask yourself not “WHAT do I want to do this year?” but “WHO do I want to be this year?”.
How might this year be different than last year if you defined yourself first by WHO you are in relation to God?
SCRIPTURE:
Genesis 1:26-28
26 Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

When heaven met earth, history was changed forever, we were changed forever. God blessed the world with a different kind of King who came to establish a different kind of kingdom.
Christmas is when heaven met earth, when God came to be with us as Jesus the King. A king who does not seek power and glory but one who walks humbly and who seeks to serve. God with us. What does that even mean?
In Part 1 of the series “When Heaven Met Earth”, we are reminded that when Jesus came, He brought God to us. He understands what is happening in our lives. He gets us and he is relevant to our lives. He is a good and loving father and he desires a relationship with us.
When you think about God - what comes to mind? And what would it look like, this Christmas season, to see God differently? To approach him differently? To relate to him differently?
SCRIPTURE:
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” - Matthew 28:20b
“...He had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God.” - Hebrews 2:17
“Because of Christ and his sacrifices, we can now step boldly and confidently into the presence of God.” - Ephesians 3:12

We all want more - more money, time, activities, stuff. But does “more” really give us what we ultimately desire? What we all realize eventually is that the pursuit of more, for the sake of more, will eventually leave us with less. What if we already have everything we need?
In this 4 part message series, we will explore “more”. What it is, why we want it, and who has it. Maybe it’s possible that the one who created us is the only “more” we need.

Our vision, both literal and figurative, can get clouded by things that distract us or block our view. This impacts our priorities, emotions, and direction in life. Pride, fear and anxiety are common obstacles that impair our vision and keep us from seeing clearly.
God repeatedly works to redirect our focus in scripture because where we look determines our direction. We can continually check our vision and refocus by inviting God to guide our gaze.
👓 Fix your gaze, consider your path, walk this way.
When you look at your relationships? Your marriage? Your kids? Your coworkers? What has your attention? Where are your eyes fixed? That will determine your direction.
Proverbs 4:25-26
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. 26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
(A proverb is a simple saying that expresses a deeper truth.)

What comes to mind when you think about “those people”? Maybe it’s a neighbor, co-worker or family member that just totally annoys you? Or maybe it’s a whole group of people that just get under your skin - offends you? I mean - how could they think that way? Does God really love “those people”? Are we really supposed to unconditionally love “those people”? What if we are “those people”?
In this episode we talk about all of that and more! Jenn, Jordan, Jeremy and Kristi talk about what “living unoffended” looks like and steps we can take to get to a place of living unoffended.

What comes to mind when you think about “those people”? Maybe it’s a neighbor, co-worker or family member or maybe it’s a whole group of people that just get under your skin? And what if those people are supposed to be our people - the ones we should experience the deepest level of connection with but they are the ones who have hurt us the most.
We have been in this series called Those People the past few weeks. And the problem is those people in our lives can get a measure of control over us and our well being - emotionally, relationally, spiritually.
So… what do we do with “those people” - those ones that hurt us or wronged us? Do we really have to forgive?
What would it look like to step into an uncomfortable or even painful place and actually begin the journey towards forgiveness? What would the world look like if we no longer put people into categories based on our own assumptions, values and limited, finite perspective and life experience but instead allowed the labels we give others to be defined by God and his love for them?
PRACTICAL STEPS:
Ask a trusted friend, mentor or counselor.
Buy the book and/or listen to Overtime Episode 38
Decide and begin the journey.

Jesus didn’t make it difficult for people to turn to God, he made it simple. This idea is based on biblical principles found in the book of Acts. This is one of the most foundational passages that informs and inspires so much of what we do at Northpoint.
In this message series, we will share how Northpoint started, where we are headed, and what our dreams and goals are with you in mind. We want to make it clear where to go, what to expect, and how to see yourself here. We want to be intentional about our environments with the assumption that we have guests every single week mustering up the courage to give church a shot.
We want to know! If there is anything we are doing that is making it weird or difficult to engage, we want to know. If there is anything that you think would make it feel safer for you to invite a friend, we want to know that too! ➡️ https://forms.gle/22wAErj81WtnBSDT8

To miss the heart of God is to miss the heart of the Christian faith. Watch the series here - Heart to Heart: https://bit.ly/3PL01bf. The past 3 Sundays we’ve talked about the Heart of God toward his people, told through one of Jesus' parables (parable = story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson).
In this Overtime episode, we talk more in depth about the heart of God and what we can learn from the
parable. We are all “lost” (lost = separated from God) but the good news is that we can all accept God’s invitation to “come home” (come home = be in relationship with God). He is a good father and he is patient. He gives us the freedom to choose whether or not we come home or stay lost. But he will always be on the porch waiting for us.

What do you want to be known for? If you look at your life now, are you actually known for that? When there's a gap between where you are and where you want to be, one of the most helpful things to do is surround yourself with people who know the real you, who can encourage you toward the thing you truly want to be known for.

Worry is one of those things every single one of us can relate to. Studies show that the U.S. is the most worry-prone country in the world. But what does worry do to our time and how we spend it? This week, we'll look how Jesus addresses this and how his words can help us today.

We're free to use our time however we want. But if our time is limited, then who or what we spend our time listening to will dramatically affect where we end up. This week, we'll look at the story of some followers of Jesus who recognized that the best way they could spend their time was listening closely to the words Jesus said.

We all know that our time is limited and that one day, our lives will come to an end. But it's not something many of us really want to think about, and it's easy to live as though we'll be around forever. How can we begin to live as if our time is limited and make our days count—both now and in a way that will last?

At its very core, the message of Jesus can be distilled down to two basic instructions: Love God. Love People. Even if that's not a new idea, you might not realize just how intertwined the two are. In this series, we'll take a look at one of the stories Jesus told that helps illustrate how our love for God should guide our love for those around us.

Sometimes we find ourselves struggling to reach our desired destination, not because of the road in front of us, but because of the one behind us. It's not unusual for the experiences from the past to become the lens through which we view everything. This week, we'll look at the story of an individual who faced betrayal, abandonment, isolation, and loss, but used the experiences of the past to save the lives of millions of people.

Often we think that if we want to reach a better destination, we just need better information. That if we just can learn and know enough, we can figure out the way all on our own. But this week we'll hear from the wisest man who ever lived, who says that the way to the best possible destination isn't found necessarily in what we know, but who we follow.

There are many things that influence or change the direction we take in life. But one of the most important factors that will affect where we end up is who and what we decide to listen to. Are we allowing people into our lives who speak words of wisdom, even if it's what we don't want to hear? Or do we stick our fingers in our ears and only listen to those who encourage us to do what we want to do? This week, we'll look at the story of someone who refused to listen to wisdom, and the disastrous results that followed.

We all want to end up somewhere. But on the road to where we're going, there are detours, wrong turns, and forks in the road. How can we be sure we get to our intended destination? By staying on the road that actually leads there.

What do we do when the circumstances in our lives that are beyond our control contribute to the excessive bending in our lives? What do we do when our situations cause us to break under the unbearable pain, hurt, or loss? There is a way to hold onto our hope and our faith in God when we encounter the biggest troubles this world could throw at us, but it all depends on what we are anchored to.

In life, we will all bend. Jesus tells us that in this world, we will have trouble and it is precisely this trouble that causes us to have to bend. But when we get so overwhelmed, overcommitted, and overexposed, we bend to the point of breaking. But this is not the life that Jesus wants us to live! Jesus offers us a relationship designed to keep us from breaking — because He promises to shoulder the burden with us.

When we decided to step out of our comfort zone, we open ourselves up to potential hardship and pain. Doubts and fear creep in, trying to keep us from doing the things that will lead us to live meaningful and purposeful lives. What do we go to when we experience those pain points? The good news is that we can find the encouragment and comfort in those moments from both others and God. And once we have experienced that comfort, we are well-equipped to bring comfort to others who have been where we have been.

What immediately comes to mind when you think of the term “comfort zone?” Maybe it’s an image of your favorite food or drink, your cozy bed, or sitting on the couch with your favorite Netflix show. Perhaps it’s more about the people than the things — hanging out with those who are easy or who know you well. Essentially, our comfort zone is defined by steadiness, ease, and a minimization of risk. But is this truly where happiness, fulfillment, and peace are found?

Following Jesus' crucifixion, all of the claims he'd made about himself were proven once and for all when God raised him from the dead. On Easter, we celebrate because we can have peace with God through the sacrifice of His son. The resurrection stands at the center of history, and at the center of our stories.

To investigate Jesus fully, we must take an in-depth, honest look at the end of Jesus’ phsyical life on earth. It can be painful and graphic to truly pay attention to the suffering the Romans inflicted on Jesus — from the initial flogging, to the crown of thorns, to the excruciating death on a cross. Being that He claimed to be both God and man, why did He not save himself from the trauma? The answer lies in one word: Love.

If Jesus is Lord, what makes him worth following? His message and His life support the claim that the gospel is good news, not only for us as individuals but for the world. But how is this possible considering how different we all are? Is there a good news that truly is good for everyone? Even though each of us cares about and struggles with different aspects of life, following Jesus can lead all of us to wholeness. That’s good news!

As we investigate Jesus, one of the foundational questions we must ask is, who does Jesus claim to be? Or, in other words, who is Jesus really? Jesus claimed to be God, but that in and of itself doesn’t prove it’s true — anyone could claim to be the Messiah. But His claim does help us eliminate other options. C.S. Lewis narrows it down to three. Jesus is either a liar, a lunatic, or Lord.

Christian or not, most people recognize that Jesus was an influential figure while He walked on this earth. Two thousand years later, people still recognize His name and remember some of the most prominent details of his life. His influence still reverberates around the world. But who is Jesus of Nazareth, really? How do we know that the Bible recounts His life accurately? This new series investigates the person of Jesus and the implications for us if what we discover is true.

We can’t talk about relationships without recognizing that some of us find ourselves in repeat patterns and none of us wants to make the same mistakes over and over. Whether you’re in a place where you’re actively working to improve your current relationship or you’re looking to start a new one, we all want to avoid repeating the same negative patterns and behaviors. Where do we start?

It would seem very incomplete to have a series on relationships and not have a real conversation about physical intimacy, and more specifically sex. Our culture reflects a very different idea of sex than the ideas that God has about it, so let's talk about it!

Does the word “submit” have a particular connotation to you when used in the context of marriage? Perhaps that word has been used against you or someone you loved. Perhaps it’s been taken out of context and left you feeling either too powerful or powerless depending on your gender. The good news is that Paul talks about “mutual submission”—that we are both to submit to Christ and then, through that, submit to one another.

Relationships are complicated. But we do have some “love handles” that will have a positive impact on our relationships and set us up for long-lasting success. The first love handle is about your soul — when your soul is good, your relationships are good. What does it mean for your soul to be good and how does that impact your relationships for the better?

What do we do when we cross the line of character? Does Jesus stand on the other side of us, shake his finger at us, and scold us for doing exactly what He told us not to do? This is not how He interacted with the woman who was caught in adultery, and it is not how He interacts with us. Instead of condemnation, He gives us grace.

Character cannot truly develop without interaction with the world. But the world often tempts us to make choices that can lead our character development down the wrong path. But if we surround ourselves with people who are of good character, we are continually inspired and challenged to grow, maintain, and sustain good character.

The development of our character has innumerable benefits, but it does come with a cost. To grow in our character often means we must sacrifice our pride — thinking too often or too highly of ourselves. Our pride keeps us from recognizing when we’re wrong and if we can’t admit that, we won’t have the knowledge, ability, or resolve to do what is right. Last week we discussed how watching Jesus can help us learn how we need to develop our character. An invitation to follow Jesus is an invitation to unfollow pride.

Have you ever played a video game or made a Facebook avatar? There’s a lot of research that shows that people tend to create avatars and choose characters that they feel represent themselves in some way, shape, or form. Ultimately, this research shows us that we value character — our character and the character of others. But what does that mean? How do we define character? How do we develop it? Can we do it, even though we often fail at our New Year’s resolutions? Our new series shows us that not only can we develop character, but that it starts first by watching before doing anything.

The holidays are in full swing, and this time of year, it’s not unusual to feel like we’re being pulled in every direction. Depending on what else is going on in your life, it’s also not unusual to wonder why we just aren’t as joyful as we think we ought to be. What if cultivating joy in our lives is the medicine our souls need this holiday season?

Becoming free requires us to remain in step with God, to be with God. Spending time with Him cultivates goodness in our lives and it is through this relationship that He works in us to produce good fruit. But the fruit of our lives is not for us. It’s for others so that we can love those around us well.

Declaring that sin is not our master is an important first step in allowing God to set us free from our sinful patterns and behaviors. God also wants us to understand what sin “sounds like” so that when temptation comes, we can then decide to turn away from sin. The good news is that we can also learn to recognize what it sounds like to be in Christ — tuning our ear to the voice that leads us to freedom.

In the book of Romans, Paul tells us that the reason we do what we don’t want to do and we don’t do what we want to do is because of sin. Sin is both a noun and a verb — sin inside of us causes us to sin. So often we look to what might rescue us from our sin instead of first turning to the who — Jesus. Just as the single unrighteous act of one man, Adam, ensured we were born slaves to sin, to the single righteous act of one Man frees us from the power of sin. But even if we have accepted Jesus, we still feel the struggle with sin. Why? Perhaps because of what we have forgotten.

Have you ever felt like life is a series of never-ending problems you are trying to solve rather than an amazing adventure you get to pursue? We often find ourselves feeling heavy because we are either carrying the weight of our passivity or the intoxication of the next destination. But what if Jesus’ design for our life is a life that is characterized by a light yoke and fulfillment? What if we’ve been living by the default of hopelessness or striving rather than our intended design? And what does this mean for our goals and dreams?

For many of us, it is easier to trust Jesus with our sin, our sorrow, and our eternity than it is with our money. Why is that? The truth is, it’s hard to surrender our money and our stuff because instead of us having control over our money, it has control over us. But Jesus doesn’t want our money. Jesus wants us – all of us – because He wants us to follow Him fully so we can live an abundant life. How do we flip the script and control our money instead of letting it control us?

Did you know that 16 out of 38 of Jesus’ parables revolve around one subject? Would you be surprised to know that subject is money? What’s more astounding is that not one time did Jesus ever actually ask for money. Why then did He talk about it so often? Because He knew that if we see money how God sees money, we will be more inclined to do what God says about money. Why is obedience with money so important? It may have more implications for your heart than your wallet than you might think.

Two thousand years ago when the church started, it didn’t start as an institution. It didn’t start as a building with pews, robes and stain glass or skinny jeans and smoke and mirrors. It started as a movement of people all around Jesus and the command to go out and make disciples. This command to make disciples and to love people as Jesus first loved us brought about amazing changes to our world.

How do you know if something is relevant to your life? Usually, we deem something relevant if it’s interesting, if we connect with it, if we’re drawn back to it time and time again. It can also be something meaningful in our current culture, but it ends up being just a fad. But what about Jesus? Is He relevant to our lives? And why does it matter? Jesus’ relevance to our lives has impacts far beyond us. How we conduct our lives can directly impact the relevance of Jesus to others. As followers of Christ, we are called to be like Christ. The way we interact with others can be a powerful way to present a different representation of Jesus than what people think.

Have you ever noticed how quickly something that has been irrelevant to you for most your life can suddenly become relevant instantaneously? Maybe you never realized just how fun, useful, or fulfilling something was until you experienced it? Currently, for 1.8 million people in the Austin area, Jesus is not relevant to them, not because of who Jesus is, but because of who the Church is. They haven’t been able to experience Jesus through church. But if the Church acted like Jesus, would people be able to see just how relevant He is to all of our lives?

Noise is everywhere. It’s inescapable for the long-term. But healthy people learn to turn down the noise low enough and long enough to be ruthlessly curious of what's going on inside of themselves and those around them. Turning down the white noise in our lives allows us to deal with our emotions before they deal with us.

For most of us, interruptions are unavoidable. Knowing this, how we deal with them becomes critical. Jesus was interrupted countless times — someone always wanted something. And yet, He handled these interruptions well because of how He protected his time and how He viewed people.

Have you ever thought about the history of the front porch? Do you notice how most houses now don’t have them? Instead, we tend to build up our back porch with the TV, the comfortable furniture, and pools. This isn’t a bad thing necessarily, but it does contribute to the loneliness and isolation of our current culture. We do, however, have ways where we can prioritize “front porch living” and experience life-giving connection and community.

To keep the wind in our sails, we must own our piece of the past — we have to accept the blame for our part. But what do we do with the other piece of the pie? When we deal with our part, we keep our issues from infiltrating into our future. The same is true with what the other person has done — we must deal with that so we don’t let their issues into our future. When we release our past hurt, anger, and bitterness, we enable the past to release its hold on us.

Sometimes the wind is taken out of our sails all at once, and other times it’s a slow process over time. Usually this happens when we get caught up in the weeds and lose sight of what matters most. Tune in for a freeing and practical formula for how we can have sustained wind in our sails over long stretches of time in the areas that matter most.

Sometimes life is great — you’re moving at a good pace and you feel good. And there are sometimes when our life feels stagnant — there is no wind in our sails. You might feel stuck and hopeless. Our first inclination may be to blame others or our circumstances. But the consequence of continually looking only outside of ourselves keeps the wind out of our sails. Knowing that Jesus wants us to live an abundant life means there can be true freedom and restoration when we own what is ours to own.

Some things in life need to be experienced because they can’t be fully explained. The same is true with Jesus. We can try to explain him, but words don’t seem to do it justice. Things like unconditional love, forgiveness, and peace are so much richer when you have actually experienced them. But once we have experienced Jesus, we can’t keep it to ourselves. What does it look like to change the world? Inviting people to “come and see” what Jesus is all about.

So often we discount ourselves or others based on the labels we choose to wear. We often define our future based on how we think of ourselves today. This can be incredibly limiting, especially if our mind is infiltrated by negative labels. If Rahab had fully defined herself only by her culture’s label of her, she would have missed out on being a part of the rich lineage of the Savior of the world. Her extraordinary story gives us both inspiration and motivation to live not how we see ourselves or how the world sees us, but to live as God sees us.

Fathers are designed to play significant roles. When they have a front row seat to our lives they can spot areas where we may need wisdom. There are so many different things in this world to which we can pay attention, and we can easily be distracted by the things that don’t matter. Sometimes we need the wisdom from our fathers (or someone who plays that role to us) to help us determine the wisest path to take so that we will live well. We see this play out in the relationship between Moses and his father-in-law, Jethro. Jethro was an ordinary guy who gave Moses extraordinary wisdom that helped shift his priorities in a powerful way.

Can you imagine an 8-year-old taking the title of king and ruling on a throne? One would think that after being raised by a father and grandfather who had committed their hearts to evil, a small, impressionable boy would follow right in their footsteps. And yet, King Josiah did just the opposite and lived an extraordinary life by bringing back the Word of God into the lives of the Israelite people.

What does it mean to live an extraordinary life? Does it mean that you accomplish the big things, get recognized for the heroic actions, or stand before millions of people to accept an award? Perhaps sometimes, yes, this is true. But it is also equally true that some of the most extraordinary people who have walked this earth are those who operate behind the scenes. They aren’t the ones clamoring for accolades or recognition. Their names are not the ones plastered on the front headlines of the newspaper. Even without all of that, the impact they have on the lives of others is unquantifiable. But this is true of people in our current spheres, but also in biblical times. This week, we are taking stock of the life of Mattias.

Sun Tzu says we must “Know thy enemy,” but it is equally important to know who our enemy is not. In our culture today, we falsely believe that if we love someone, we must agree with their values, opinions, or ideas. But we are called to have wildly different concept of love. Jesus asks us to love others in the same way He loves us, a way that makes a difference in our lives and in the lives of others.

In every other world religion, forgiveness comes at the expense of the perfection of God. Christianity is different because God never has to exchange His perfection so that we can experience freedom and grace. Why did Jesus have to die? Jesus is the way that God can forgive us and see us as a brand new creation because of what He accomplished on the cross.

If you’ve ever been confused by something Jesus has said, you’re not alone. Even the people that heard His voice audibly were confused, too. It can be difficult to understand what He did and said when it’s such a radical departure from what had always existed. The confusion between the Old Testament and the New Testament still exists today, but this week we hope to shed insight on exactly what Jesus meant when He said He would destroy a building and rebuild it again in three days.

It’s the beginning of Daylight Saving Time, so what better opportunity is there to talk about time? DST was created so we would have the appearance of more time, but does anyone actually feel more productive or rested this week? The irony is the seasons and cyclical rhythm of the earth don’t change because we label it. The concept of cycles and rhythms is part of creation.
After we confess our sin and receive forgiveness, Jesus asks us to leave our life of sin and go a different way or make a different choice. He knew, though, that we would come up against temptation to repeat our mistakes again. Thus, He concludes his lesson on prayer with addressing how we can ask God to help us mitigate temptation in our lives.

Repeating the Jesus way teaches us to pray creates a muscle memory response in us. The more we are intentional about declaring His greatness and surrendering our will, the more intimacy we will have in our relationship with Him. We gain a deeper understanding of why He gives us what He does and learn how to be content with that measure. But God knows we are not perfect. Therefore, Jesus includes the crucial piece about seeking and giving forgiveness so that we might be right with Him and others.

If we don’t understand the purpose of prayer, things can get really confusing in our relationship with God. Jesus teaches us that the purpose of prayer is to align and realign our will with God and to know Him in an intimate and relational way. As we do this, we begin to understand that surrendering to Him and trusting Him to provide is life-giving and life changing.

It can be easy to fall into the habit of treating God like a vending machine — asking God for what you need when you need it and expecting Him to dispense it accordingly. But when God doesn’t do what we want Him to do, it can cause a lot of confusion. If we let that inform us about who God is and His love for us, does that mean He doesn’t really care or love us? Is there a different way to approach God so that we don’t put God’s character on the line when we pray?
What do we do when we find ourselves in a position of regret? Will we continue to cover up what we have done, or will we confess our mistakes? So often we tell ourselves that if we just conceal them, we will be able to sneak past the consequences of our actions. But what actually happens is a compounding of our consequences.
When we hear good news, we hope it to be true. Likewise, when we hear bad news, we hope it’s not true. But if the Christmas story is truly good news, why doesn’t everyone lean in and hope it’s true? Perhaps we must consider that we, as Christians, have had something to do with this. How can we do things differently in our lives so we can truly be the light of the world?

On some level, we all struggle with fears. But our fears that are phobias can keep us from experiencing the fullness of life. If we have a phobia of being generous, science tells us that we will miss out on things such as happiness, physical health, purpose in life, avoidance of depression, personal growth, and a growing faith. Is it possibly to allay our fears so that we can live an abundant and generous life?
After kicking off this series called the Paradox of Generosity, the question remains, how does this impact our every day life? The amazing thing is, whether big or small, generosity has the greatest impact on the one being generous! Buck shares more insights from the research that we didn't have time for on Sunday, how to navigate big generosity decisions, and what generosity looks like on a daily basis.

The most common objection to faith is some version of the question "Why would a good God allow suffering?" or "Why do bad things happen to good people?". What if leaning into the question actually points us to God rather than away? Could it be that at its heart, God's love only becomes more overwhelming and evident? In this podcast, we tackle the question head on with Jeff Brown, a father who lost his son and a decade later has incredible insights from not just an intellectual, but an experiential perspective.

If you're a parent, then raising your kids will be one of the most important things you do in your life. Why then does nobody tells us what the goal of parenting is? In this week's episode, Buck and Jordan have a conversation about the final two parts of the series Family Filters. Buck lays out the four main stages of parenting with some insights from each phase, what the MAIN goal of parenting is, and provides some helpful resources to take the conversation beyond the series.
