The Ron Johnson Discipleship Podcast is designed to bring the Lordship of Christ to our everyday lives. In each episode we'll discuss current events from a biblical worldview perspective with the goal of displaying the beauty, wisdom and blessing of a life lived in joyful obedience to Jesus. The goal is to equip you to better engage our culture with the good news of the gospel for all of life.
Ishtar's sorcery involved the transforming of men into women and women into men. Her temple priests embraced castration as an attempt to rid themselves of the characteristics of the gender in which they were born. These priests were the transsexuals of the ancient world. We should not be surprised that with the rejection of Christianity by the ruling elites, a door would be opened for the resurrection of transsexuality and transgenderism in mainstream American culture.

The arrival of June is only weeks away and we are all wondering if corporate America learned anything from last year's painful lesson - that trans activism is the fastest road to financial insolvency. Companies like Target, Anheuser - Busch, Nike and Disney felt the full force of consumer outrage as customers and dollars went racing for the doors. While corporate America seems to be learning the lesson the hard way, the National Association of Evangelicals is lost in a growing cloud of LGBTQ wokeness. All of this insanity finds its source in Ishtar's priests! We'll explain the connection in our podcast today.

Ishtar's deconstruction of the sexes led to the merging of masculinity and femininity. Our pop culture now features female entertainers appearing wild, unruly, shocking and vulgar. Their male counterparts are often sporting eyeliner, lipstick and other evidence of femininity. And if this was not confusing enough, we are witnessing "Drag Queen Story Hours" in public libraries across America where men wearing make-up, high heels, wigs and dresses read books to children! Transvestites, now called "drag queens," are now the rage. Androgyny is now mainstream.

Ishtar's goal was the deconstruction and emasculation of men, resulting in the blurring of distinctions between what it means to be male and female. Strong biblical masculinity was increasingly mocked, marginalized and deemed "toxic." Male leadership, whether in public life, the home or popular culture came under constant assault. The God-given instinct in men to protect and provide has been channeled into the virtual world of video games and pornography. When a culture routinely denigrates masculinity, women will be struck with boys who have no incentive to grow up or to assume the responsibilities that come with marriage and a family. That was Ishtar's assignment all along.

While Ishtar was the goddess of love, allurement and sexuality, she also embodied ferocity, aggressiveness, war and destruction. Other traditionally feminine qualities were missing, particularly those linked to nurturing - gentleness, compassion and empathy. Her sorcery specialized in blurring distinctions and transgressing boundaries. It was her nature to make others into her image - to turn a woman into a man. So, we should expect that the entrance of Ishtar into American culture would manifest with the de-feminization of women. And that is exactly what we are witnessing.
Today we celebrate our 200th podcast! We discuss the power of a biblical worldview to deliver us from a "fishbowl sized Christianity" into an oceanic perspective of faith. We also highlight the remarkable power of a Christian worldview to foster personal transformation and positive spiritual change in the lives of believers.

This week America witnessed a total eclipse. Unfortunately, what could have been a perfect opportunity to highlight the truth of our Christian worldview was hijacked by end time hysteria and prophetic prognosticators. We also witnessed a surge of interest in women's collegiate basketball as South Carolina and Iowa faced off in the national championship game. Both coaches had an opportunity to celebrate and define the unique place of women in college sports. Tragically they chose to betray the very women they coach by bowing to the radical, extremist, biology-denying transgender movement. In today's podcast, we'll show you the ancient spirit fueling this movement to blur the lines and to nullify the distinctions between men and women.

If the spirit of Molech were to return America, a nation that had rejected God and His principles, would he once again require blood and child sacrifice? Baal's goal was to erase the law of God and to inspire lawlessness and rebellion. Ishtar's objective is to sever sex from the marriage covenant resulting in unrestrained sexuality with no thought of, or desire for, or connection to children. Children produced by sexual acts are now offered up as modern-day sacrifices to Molech on the altars of Planned Parenthood. Abortion is now considered to be a "sacred act," a right to be praised and even celebrated. How did we get here?

His name is Molech and he is associated with the darkest of sins, the sacrifice of children. This evil practice, which God calls an "abomination," was nearly universal in the pagan world. Children were routinely subjected to mistreatment, abuse and murder. It was not safe to be a child. Jesus and the good news of the gospel changed all of that! Children were "gifts" from God. All life was of infinite value. In a culture saturated with biblical values, the weak, the infirm and the defenseless all found refuge. Unfortunately, our American apostasy has opened the door to the return of Molech. The fruit of his idolatry is everywhere.

It should come as no surprise that Baal's deification of profit and pleasure would lead to Ishtar's sexualization of American culture and the public monetization of sex. As sexual expression was "liberated" from the marriage bed, it became a commodity to be bought and sold. America, a nation consecrated at its inception to advancing the gospel, has now become the undisputed porn capital of the world. Ishtar the seducer was also the intoxicator. Her sexual revolution brought with it an explosion of drug use, occult practices and goddess worship. Ishtar had triumphed!

The seduction of American culture has been radical! As sexual expression was severed from the biblical confines of the marriage covenant, sex became deified. Sex was the new god. Sex was pursued as an end without regard to marriage, love or relationship. Sexual immorality was now not only accepted, but treated as sacred. The results of Ashtoreth's seduction have been both tragic and devastating. We discuss the fruits of her sorcery in our podcast today.

It was the apostasy and rebellion of the spirit of Baal which opened the door for the entrance of Ashtoreth and unbridled sexuality, licentiousness and depravity (Judges 10:6). It happened in ancient Israel, and it is happening in America today. We have witnessed the open rejection of biblical standards and morality, the same ethics which have provided the moral foundations of Western civilization for nearly two thousand years. What has followed could be summed up in three words: the sexual revolution.
Another election cycle is coming to town which means the Left will be coming out with their new list of scare tactics to keep Christians from being politically engaged. The latest bogeyman? White Christian Nationalism. Evidently if you love God and country and you exercise your God-given rights to engage in the political process you are not a threat to democracy and must be stopped at all costs! We spend the first part of the podcast destroying this ridiculous piece of Leftist propaganda. We then introduce you to the second member of the "dark trinity," an ancient principality the Bible calls, Ashtoreth (Judges 2:13).

The spirit of Baal is a spirit of apostasy. Baal's assignment was to turn God's people away from Him. He promises prosperity, fulfillment and liberation, but in the end, it results in total bondage. Scripture tells us that we become like that which we worship (Psalm 115:4,-5, 8) We'll explore this principle as it relates to the rise of artificial intelligence, digital implants, and the sexual and emotional relationships between humans and robots. Baali alive and well in America today.

As America turned from God to the spirit of Baal, a transformation took place. We have witnessed the gradual paganization of America and Western Culture. Baal is an overturner. He seeks to blend, blur and break God-given distinctions. His goal is to erase the clear lines between right and wrong, life and death, the natural and the unnatural, man and woman, good and evil. His presence is all over the American cultural landscape.
Baal was the god of prosperity. He was the source behind increase, profit and gain. His goal was to cause the people to worship material prosperity, to pursue wealth, to serve money, instead of worshipping God. Baal’s preeminent symbol was the bull. The bull embodied his power and his connection to fertility. The appearance of the bull in ancient Israel was a sign of the nation’s apostasy from God. As America has rejected God in favor of materialism, it should come as no surprise that the bull would make a reappearance.
How would Baal come to America? Baal was the god of apostasy. His mission Baal is to cause a nation that has known God to stop knowing Him and then to forget Him, and then to forget it ever knew Him. In America we have witnessed this firsthand. How did a nation founded for the glory of God and built upon the Law of God experience such a godless transformation in such a short time? We discuss this "baalization" in our podcast today.

If the gods were to return, if they were to re-enter Western civilization, how would they do it? And what gods would they be? As we've watched Americans drift farther and farther from the Christian faith and a biblical worldview, we've seen a rise in paganism and godlessness. What is responsible for this radical transformation? Today we introduce you to the first member of what Jonathan Cahn calls "The Dark Trinity." His name is "Baal," and he is alive and active in America today.

The birth of Christ initiated the violent clash of two opposing kingdoms. The good news is Jesus won! As the gospel spread throughout the earth, the old gods were driven out and the gospel of the kingdom brought blessing and freedom everywhere Christ was preached. What then became of these principalities? If these demonic spirits were to return to America, how would they do so?
Episode 186In the ancient world, the gods were everywhere. Wherever there were people, there were gods. While the names of the gods varied depending upon the culture and nation, behind those false deities of the pagan world were demonic spirits (Deuteronomy 32:17). If individuals can fall under the influence of demons, is it possible for entire peoples, nations, or civilizations to fall prey to a spirit of deception? If so, could this help to explain what is currently taking place in America?

For most of us, the America we grew up in is utterly unrecognizable. In fact, it's not limited to America alone. It is as if a spell has been cast on Western Civilization itself and the transformation has been taking place at lightning speed. Simple truth statements, like "there are two genders" or "only women can get pregnant" are now attacked as dangerous heresies. How did this happen? In his book, The Return of the Gods, best-selling author Jonathan Cahn explains how our rejection of God has opened the door to the return of ancient principalities and powers, spirits that had been previously conquered and expelled by the power of the Gospel. Join us as we take a deep dive into the spiritual warfare driving the ungodly ideologies that are enslaving and deceiving the nations.

In one of his letters written during his imprisonment by the Nazi's, Bonhoeffer wondered whether we needed a "religionless Christianity." Was he advocating a Christianity without Christ or sound doctrine? Was he seeking an ecumenical movement rooted in inclusivity and tolerance as German liberal theologians promoted? Actually, he was seeking just the opposite. He was looking for a church filled with passion for Jesus and guided by a deep conviction in the Truth. He had a vision of a bold church with a prophetic voice. We talk about what that looks like for the American church today.

Today we talk about the trap of moralism where Christians focus on keeping the letter of the Law but miss the heart, the essence, of what the Law intends. The German Church cooperated with Nazi authorities using Romans 13 as the justification. For them, being a Christian meant avoiding trouble at all costs, instead of serving Jesus with courage and passion. They were more concerned with their own theological purity, their reputations, their image than they were with protecting their Jewish friends. We talk about the ethics behind telling lies, like Rahab in the Bible, when those lies actually lead to saving innocent life.
I am joined today on this special Thanksgiving podcast by my lovely wife, Marion! We begin with the first Thanksgiving Proclamation issued by George Washington highlighting the undeniably Christian roots of our founding as a nation. We read a second proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln issued in the middle of the Civil War reminding us of God's blessings and faithfulness even when we, as a nation, have been unfaithful to Him. And finally, we'll be sharing testimonies from our church family giving thanks to God for all He has done this past year. May your hearts be encouraged to remain in a posture of faith-filled gratitude and thankfulness! God is for you!

Ohio voters adopted Issue 1, which creates a constitutional right to abortion. What's even more disturbing is that an estimated 20% of the voters were evangelicals, and 30% of evangelical voters voted in favor of abortion on demand throughout the entire term of pregnancy. The Bible, of course, is clear on the issue. God calls abortion an abomination. So how could so many "believers" vote for something God hates? Could this be the fruit of a pulpit that refuses to preach on "political" issues? And what would cause Deitrich Bonhoeffer to leave the safety of the United States to return to Germany to become part of a plan to assassinate Hitler? And finally, how have we come to a place in America where Christians would more readily support the murder of babies than they would support a heroic pastor's attempt to use force to take out a maniacal tyrant?

The Church of Jesus Christ is called to be the conscience of the State. When the Church fails to speak for those who have no voice, we shirk our God-given responsibility, and everyone suffers from our silence. How can we speak prophetically to the most critical issues of our day - issues like the sanctity of life, marriage, sexuality, transgenderism - and avoid being "political?" Have we forgotten that government was established by God and exists for His glory? Have we forgotten that government officials are God's "ministers for good" and that they are accountable to Him? (Romans 13) Today's podcast is dedicated to the liberation of the Church from her bondage to fear and apathy to become the of voice of truth and righteousness she has been called to be.

A common error among Christians today is to suppress the Truth in favor of demonstrating "love." We avoid the contentious and controversial issues of our day in the name of loving our neighbor. However, truth and love emanate from the same Source. Jesus is perfect Truth and perfect Love embodied. This is why we cannot separate them with doing damage to both. Truth and love are perfectly united in Christ! For the Christian, love does not war against the truth - love reigns through truth. Only a love of the truth will keep us from deception.

There are many pastors today who argue that the Church should focus exclusively on evangelism. "What is more valuable than a soul?" they argue. It follows that speaking about anything that might offend an unbeliever is of secondary importance and should be avoided at all costs. After all, why should a lesser issue become a stumbling block to the greatest issue - salvation. Is this the approach of Jesus? What about controversial issues such as slavery and abortion? Is the Church expected to speak the truth even though someone might take offense? What is the gospel and what should be our approach to speaking truth in our culture?

Episode 177What happened to the robust, passionate faith of Luther, a faith that was willing to die if necessary for truth? According to Bonhoeffer, it had dwindled to a faith of mere intellectual assent. The faith of the German Church had been reduced to a belief in proper historical creeds and doctrinal truths. The result was a hollow, passionless, heartless "faith" and a twisted form of "cheap grace" which demands no change in lifestyle. A church filled with faulty faith was no match for Hitler and his minions. Is the American church mired in the same compromise and corruption today?

Episode 176Deitrich Bonhoeffer experienced first-hand the failure of the Church to address the evils of his day. He understood "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act. God will not hold us guiltless.” When people fail to speak out, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. Either we help evil, or we fight evil. Either we speak and thereby help others to speak truth, or we cower in silence and thereby lead others to do the same. Perhaps the main question for most of us is whether we are willing to pay the price of speaking and acting. That is the focus of our podcast today.

Episode 175 In response to Hitler's "cancelling" of Jewish people from full participation in German life, Deitrich Bonhoeffer helped to draft the Barmen Declaration. This document served to draw a clear line in the sand between the National Reich Church that was subservient to Hitler, and the Confessing Church which was fully submitted to Jesus Christ as its Head. What was shocking was that most pastors refused to sign the document! They suffered from either a lack of theological clarity or a lack of moral courage, or both! They chose to sit on the sidelines and do nothing. Only 3,000 pastors had the courage to stand against the Nazi regime. Twelve thousand pastors decided to stay out of "politics" and go on with business as usual. The result was the Nazi holocaust. What lessons are there to be learned for the Church in America today? That is the focus of this podcast.

On January 31, 1933, Adolf Hitler came to power as chancellor of Germany. What followed was nothing short of a "fundamental transformation" of German culture. Hitler acted with lightning speed to bring about a "synchronization" of German life with Nazi ideology. Crises were created and executive powers were seized to bring order. Political opponents were demonized. Voices of opposition were "cancelled." The news media became voices of the Nazi propaganda machine. The Jewish people were singled out as scapegoats for the miseries of the nation. And all the while, the Church was complicit and silent. Deitrich Bonhoffer was the exception. Today we talk about his powerful call for the Church to be the Church, as we examine the parallels between his day and ours.

On Reformation Sunday, November 6, 1932, Dietrich Bonhoffer stood in the pulpit of the leading church in all of Germany and delivered a prophetic call for the church to return to Jesus, her first love. The fiery church of Luther was gone. In its place was a Christianity void of Christ! Bonhoeffer called it "cheap grace." If the Church did not arise as the true Church of Jesus Christ, but only continued to play at having church, tragedy was looming. Would God not judge the German Church just as He had judged the people of Israel when they had forgotten Him? He called the church to repent before it was too late. Could God be saying the same to the Church in America today?

In his book, Letter to the American Church, Eric Metaxes asks, "How is it that so many in the American Church of our time have shrunk back from public engagement, and quietly assented to the decidedly unbiblical—and decidedly un-American and unconstitutional—view that the truth of God is not applicable beyond the churches?" We discuss the reason for the Church's retreat from relevance in our podcast today.

The pandemic exposed a great deal of ambiguity concerning the role of the Church. Many pastors and their congregations were confused over where to find their marching orders. The parallels between the German church during the rise of Hitler and the passive and impotent American church are striking! How did we get here?

Patriotism has fallen on hard times in America. Perhaps it's because we are more divided than ever over what it means to love our country. One side of the ideological camp focuses on all of the great things America has done throughout history. The other side seems to only focus on her faults. However, to truly love America, we must somehow see both sides simultaneously. We do not fail to see the sins and failings, but we also see past them to the hope and the promise. Seeing the sins and failings is therefore not final and fatalistic. We see them but we see beyond them to the possibilities of goodness and forgiveness and redemption. We recognize the story is not over.

The concept of American exceptionalism is controversial largely because it is tragically misunderstood. Is America exceptional? If so, what is so special about America? What sets us apart from all of the nations of the world? Why is this understanding so critical if we hope to steward and sustain the republic we have been given?
How important is the character of our leaders if we hope to keep the fragile republic of ordered freedoms entrusted to us? Many today conveniently compartmentalize a leader's character from his/her competencies. One's ability to "get the job done" is really all that matters. Who cares about a leader's personal indiscretions! Our Founders saw things differently. Characterless leaders undermine the people’s faith in the larger order. If our leaders behave wickedly, if they love themselves and their careers more than they love our country and the people they are elected to serve, people lose trust in the whole system. Once they think the system is corrupt, or that their leaders and representatives are corrupt, it’s nearly impossible for the citizens to feel they are part of an actual system of self-government.

Heroes are vitally important to the health of any nation. When Saul and Jonathan were killed in battle, David composed a funeral song and commanded that it be taught to the people of Israel. He wanted future generations to know of the heroic sacrifices of these men. Why? Because heroes inspire us. Heroic examples call forth from us a powerful desire to be good and great and heroic ourselves. They help us remember the sacrifices that have been made by others so that we are grateful and willing to make similar sacrifices for our country if called upon. Over the decades, we have witnessed the gradual disappearance of public expressions of the heroic. America decided that it made more sense to deconstruct them rather than venerate them. By pushing away these common stories of our heroes, we have allowed ourselves to be drained of our very common identity as Americans. The result is a toxic, cynical and divided America.
What united a loosely connected group of individual colonies into a single people with a common identity as Americans? The answer: George Whitefield and the First Great Awakening. After three decades of anointed, tireless preaching, a remarkable 80% of the population of the American colonies experienced Whitefield's ministry at least once. The impact was profound. His preaching served as a great social leveler because everyone, rich or poor, kings or commoners, must be born again. His message was also a great uniter of the people as they found their identity not in race or denominational affiliation, but in Christ. We are living in what some have called "the divided states of America." We need something or someone to restore our common vision and purpose. Only Jesus is big enough. We need a third Great Awakening.

Today we begin our discussion of Eric Metaxas' best-selling book, _If You Can Keep It: The Forgotten Promise of American Liberty. _In 1776 a nation was formed in a way that was absolutely unique in human history. It was something entirely new: the nation as an idea. It was nothing more and nothing less than this singular idea that held America and Americans together, and the idea in which they believed was, in a word, liberty. True freedom must be an “ordered freedom,” at the center of which is what we call “self-government.” The ordered freedom given to us by the Founders was meant to enable the people to govern themselves. This idea of a self-governed people was unheard of in its day. Freedom, after all, is fragile. How could a government by the people withstand the test of time? We talk about the necessary ingredients in our podcast today.

When Christians share the good news of the gospel with others, especially those from different cultures, we are often accused of being ethnocentric or imperialistic. Our modern culture chides us for thinking one culture might be doing things better than another culture. Who are we to impose our values on others! Cultures should be judged by their own standards. Our biblical exclusivism, thinking that our way is the right way, has no place in our culturally pluralistic world. However, when you cut through all of the progressive groupthink, it's easy to see that culture matters. Ideas do have consequences, and some ideas have better results than others. Ideas rule the world. Ideas create culture. And the ideas of the Bible liberate nations!

While we prepare to celebrate another national birthday, it's important to understand the cause for American strength and stability. Thankfully, America is not a democracy, because democracies don't last long. Our founders opted for a constitutional republic which required both the people and their rulers be constrained by the rule of law. And it was God's law, immutable and transcendent, which formed the foundation of our national law. Our American pillars of liberty - freedom of conscience, freedom of speech, checks and balances, the rule of law, an independent judiciary, constitutionalism and representative government - all came from one source: the BIBLE.

Why are some nations so poor and others so rich? Do cultural beliefs and values condemn whole cultures to poverty? Does inner wealth produce material wealth? What type of worldview is necessary to inspire engineers and entrepreneurs to create labor saving devices to serve the poor and needy? What is the Protestant work ethic and how did it lead to unparalleled prosperity in the West? Today we explain how the ideas found in the Scriptures created the intellectual capital necessary for wealth creation and innovation. There are reasons why some nations thrive and others, with the same natural resources and talented people, seem to be forever mired in poverty and corruption.
Compassionate care for the sick, the weak and the elderly has become a hallmark of America. Why is this the case? Other worldviews show little concern for the weak and infirmed. Medical knowledge alone does not create a caring, compassionate culture. It was the Bible that revealed God as “the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.” Jesus became the Messiah for the sick, the sorrowing and the suffering. Medicine does not flourish in cultures where people are viewed as burdens. The compassionate care for others requires a community committed to the glory of God and the good of your neighbor. We can thank the Bible for that.
Four decades after the failed French Revolution, Alexis de Tocqueville, a French magistrate, came to the United States seeking explanations for the success of American democracy. He published his findings in his two-volume classic, Democracy in America. You might be shocked with his conclusion. He said the chief cause of our "extraordinary prosperity" and "growing power" is due to "the superiority of their women." What was so exceptional about American women? He added that the strength of American character and culture could not be understood apart from the Bible's teaching on gender roles, sex, marriage, and family life. Strong women are produced from a biblical understanding of morality and freedom.

In our American culture it is fashionable to pit religion and science as mortal enemies. You can have faith or reason but you can't have both, or so we are told. But this scenario could not be farther from the actual truth. Science did not emerge in a vacuum. There must be faith in the possibility of science. Science grew in the rich soil of a biblical worldview. Scientific investigation depends upon certain critical assumptions about the world, and these presuppositions come from the Christian faith. In short, apart from Christianity science would not exist. Join us today as we uncover the foundational ideas which form the worldview necessary for science to emerge and flourish.

Americans enjoy approximately 6000 different choices in the area of higher education. Globally there are over 25,000 colleges and universities. Education is something open to all and encouraged by all. So how did we reach this place? If you roll back the clock several centuries, you find a completely different landscape. There was a time when global illiteracy was the norm and education was reserved only for the elite. What changed this dismal situation? Christianity. The university was invented and established by Christians. An amazing 106 of 108 of the first colleges in America were founded on the Christian faith, the twin goals being training in the knowledge of God and equipping for lifelong service to the Lord. Sadly, our universities have become openly hostile to the faith that created them! How did this happen, and more importantly, how do we reclaim our rich Christian heritage?
The ideas and language of the Bible have radically shaped western civilization. This is why a knowledge of the Scriptures is absolutely essential to understand both English literature and the ideas that have shaped American culture. So why is this the case? What makes the Bible so unique when compared to the writings of other cultures and historical periods? The Bible's impact on literature made it the West's source of cultural authority. It logically follows that our current rejection of the Truth of the Scriptures is resulting in widespread moral disintegration and intellectual anarchy. America's hope lies in her return to the Bible and to the ideas and values which created American exceptionalism in the first place.

Why is it that for many Americans the word "nationalism" has become a word of derision? What's wrong with having a love for one's country? In today's podcast we'll discuss the biblical origins of the concept of nation-states and the value of biblical nationalism. Nations are actually the invention of a sovereign God and serve as a vital barrier to global totalitarianism. The Bible, translated into the common language of the people, served as the foundation for both national identity and international compassion. Preserving our national identity as "One nation under God" requires a return to the biblical worldview and the common language we share when we joyfully submit to God as ruler of the nations.

The Bible is the best-selling book of all time. Most Americans own a copy or two. But did you know the Bible we enjoy today is covered in the blood and sacrifice of many reformers who were willing to die for the Truth it proclaims? Why would kings and popes execute anyone who attempted to translate the Bible into the language of the people? Why would men like Wycliffe, Tyndale, Luther and Calvin spend much of their lives hiding in exile for their commitment to this book? Ideas have powerful consequences and the ideas unleashed in the Scriptures have literally turned the power structures of this world upside down! In today's podcast, we'll discuss some of these revolutionary ideas and the impact they had in shaping our American experiment in self-government.

Heroes. We all have them. But what determines the heroes of a given culture? In short, what is deemed heroic is based upon what a culture values. Prior to the life of Jesus, heroes were people who had the power to conquer and dominate others. Men like Alexander the Great and Augustus Caesar come to mind. However, the cross of Christ changed everything. Jesus replaced brutality with love, and pride with meekness, and domination of others with self-sacrificing service. His example transformed our whole concept of heroic behavior and the world is a better place because of it!

I am joined today by Ryan McCann, Executive Director of the Indiana Family Institute. Ryan and IFI work tirelessly to create an environment in Indiana where families can thrive. We talk today about the importance of God honoring public policy. Ryan addresses critical pieces of legislation currently moving through our state legislature. Finally, we discuss the Lordship of Jesus over all of creation, including government.
The scientific, technological, military, and economic success of the West came from the fact that it became a thinking civilization.Where did this confidence in reason, thought, logic, and the mind come from? For Christians, the ultimate reality behind the universe was the rational Word (logos) of a personal God. Rationality is part of the nature of God.When you reject the belief in a rational Creator you undermine the pillars of reason. You inevitably slide from reason, to skepticism and then to mysticism. The result is the irrational mess we are witnessing in America today. The solution is a return to the God of the Bible.
While contemporary secularists posit our modern understanding of human rights with the ancient Greeks, we refute this myth while demonstrating that a high view of human value and dignity actually finds its roots in the Bible. How did our Christian conception of human beings become so radically different from the rest of the world? Since ideas have consequences, how does one's view of humanity impact the areas of ethics, politics, science, technology and medicine?

Ideas are the infrastructure of ultimate reality. It follows that ideas have consequences. Our notions of what is good, true and beautiful literally contain the power to shape nations. In the opening the Apostle John's gospel, he elegantly outlines what I call the building blocks of reality. These are five key principles or propositions that serve as intellectual steel girders forming the support system for the Christian worldview. We unpack each of these foundational ideas in our podcast today!

Spiritual awakenings in the heart must be married to biblical revelation and a distinctly Christian view of the world for lasting transformation for occur. Cultures cannot survive without a unifying, shared comprehensive worldview. In America, the Bible has been the foundation of our common culture. American ideals such as freedom, justice and truth found their intellectual moorings in the Scriptures. These foundations are currently under assault, especially in our institutions of public education where academic liberty is replaced by woke political indoctrination. However, one governor is leading the way in rescuing public education from leftist ideologues. We'll look at what he is doing as a model for the rest of America.

Having a dream is only the first step. The next step is to own it. But we’re not finished yet. You can have a dream, own the dream and still fall flat on your face. How? It's called FOG. If our dreams are foggy, we become paralyzed by indecision and stress. We often feel out of control. We must get rid of the fog. We must bring clarity to our vision. Today we tell you how!

One of the greatest joys we share with God is our ability to dream. Unfortunately, many of us have stopped dreaming. We find ourselves trapped in an endless cycle of simply going through the motions of life. For the dreamless, life becomes a joyless ritual. But when God places a dream in a person’s heart everything changes. The dream energizes your life. You prepare. You plan. You make sacrifices. In short, you own the dream and the dream transforms your life!
Godly resolves mixed with faith are good and serve to grow us and to expand Chrit's kingdom. Unfortunately, we can't move forward if we simply believe we are destined to fail. We become on the outside what we believe on the inside. If we are cynical about our success we'll run around popping our balloons before someone else does. Many experience a form of self-sabotage simply because they believe a lie about themselves. The first step toward success is the conviction that you can succeed. That starts with godly beliefs.

After all,it's doomed for failure! The problem is that God has placed a desire in our hearts to make a lasting impact with our lives. We want to live lives that matter. Maybe our focus is wrong. We are often infatuated with remaking ourselves when we ought to be concentrating on reproducing ourselves and leaving a lasting legacy. Today we'll discuss how to make holy resolutions that lead to lives of intentional impact.

Christmas is only days away and that means last minute gifts are being purchased, wrapped and placed under the tree! One gift that will not be exchanged is the gift called "suffering." In fact, for Christians in the West, suffering is to be avoided at all costs. We have much to learn from our brothers and sisters in the persecuted Church. They have had to embrace this despised gift and, as a result, they offer a different perspective on the blessings that come when we follow Christ to a place of suffering.

In times of government tyranny and oppression, connecting with others who share your beliefs is a critical tool for resistance. Community creates a space where freedom is preserved. And freedom promotes a sense of corporate courage where people are able to face their fears and courageously fight against evil. In light of the growing government overreach we are seeing in America today (remember the images of churches being chained shut during the pandemic), it is critical for believers to be well connected to one another through small groups.
As the scope of government grows, so does the attack on both religion and family life. Why? Because the faith and family are God-ordained checks to the government abuse of power. Both remind politicians that they are not all-powerful. Someone, namely God Almighty, has greater authority than the State. Today we learn from the faith of those who have endured the suffering and abuse of totalitarian governments. Their courage inspires us as we face a growing threat to religious liberty here in America.
The nuclear family is the first institution created by God and the building block of healthy communities and nations. Perhaps this explains why Satan hates the family and does everything in his power to destroy it. It should come as no surprise that families act as resistance cells in the battle against totalitarian regimes around the globe. Today we discuss the ongoing assault on marriage and family in America and what we can do to build strong families in a culture hostile to our biblical values.
Memory matters. Without a collective memory, you have no culture, and without culture you have no shared identity. Our shared cultural memories function to legitimize the present social order. This is why revolutionary movements work to erase our shared history so that the new order can emerge. Every totalitarian movement strategically attacks the nuclear family and the local church. Why? Because the church and the family are the main vehicles for cultural transmission and identity. Today we talk about what we can do to keep our identity as Americans strong and vibrant.
In recent weeks, we have discussed the many forms of soft totalitarianism emerging in American culture. Today we shift our focus to what we can do about it. We begin with the challenge to "value nothing more than truth." In a culture poisoned with lies, we must have the courage to "live in the truth." Yes, this decision will come with a price. You will be mocked and ridiculed. You may lose your job or be cancelled from the larger culture. But this cost is nothing compared with those who consent to the cultural lies for the sake of convenience and comfort and end up losing their souls.

The marriage between woke corporate thuggery and information technology harvesting is creating a hostile environment for those who hold biblical values. Whether it's book contracts that are sabatoged, banking services that are suddenly cancelled, or social media accounts that are de-platformed, the stakes are high for those who are courageous enough to stand in opposition to the current assault of free speech and religious liberty. So what can we do about it? We'll wrestle with that question in today's episode.

Every movement needs a transcendent source of legitimacy to fuel its mission. For America's Leftists, it's progress. Progressives hold that the present is better than the past, and that the future will inevitably be better than the present. Those who oppose progress are maligned as backward bigots on the wrong side of history. Progressivism, without God, is focused on the pursuit of equity, the idea that the government must redistribute wealth thereby creating a perfect utopia. Unfortunately, the clear and repeated lesson from history is that attempts to promote social justice by govenment force always result in bloodshed, terror and tyranny.

Americans are not experiencing the hard totalitarianism of the former Soviet gulags. Instead, it manifests control in soft forms. This tyranny is therapeutic. It masks its hatred of dissenters from its progressive utopian ideology in the guise of helping and healing. The end result is a political authoritarianism with an ideology that seeks to control all aspects of life.
Today we begin an exciting discussion of Rod Dreher's book, _Live Not by Lies: A Manual for Christian Dissidents. _ Is America drifting toward some form of totalitarianism? Our elite institutions are abandoning old-fashioned liberalism, which defends the rights of the individual, and replacing it with a progressive creed which promotes social justice through group identity. Dissenters from the woke party line find their careers destroyed and their reputations slandered. All of this is done in the name of liberating victims from oppressors. The question remains, what can we do about it?

Our Declaration of Independence firmly enshrines our inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The freedoms of speech and religion have been appreciated and enjoyed since the birth of our great nation. With the rise of expressive individualism, however, these self-evident liberties have come under intense pressure. Religious conviction is now viewed as hateful bigotry. Freedom of speech is considered a license to oppress and marginalize the weak. A growing authoritarianism is on the rise. What can we do about it?
The LGBTQ+ coalition has been one of the greatest political success stories of the last half century. The speed, depth and scope of this revolution is impressive. But a closer look reveals some serious fault lines within the coalition. If the ideology behind this movement is embraced and implemented into our legal and political systems, the result will be mass chaos. Trans ideology cannot be avoided. The real question is how will the Church respond?
We used to find our identity and belonging from a shared national narrative. Our families, our churches and our nation provided a moral framework and a national identity which created a sense of belonging and unity. With the advent of the internet, we are able to pick and choose our own communities and identities. The result is a divided nation marked by instability, volatility and contentiousness. Where do we go from here?
Our world used to be relatively stable and fixed. All we needed to do to successfully navigate life was to find our place within it. But things have drastically changed. We now live in a world that is both plastic and fluid. While we have more choices than ever, it also makes finding our identity more challenging. Today on the Ron Johnson Discipleship Podcast: What makes a nation great? What makes for a strong church? What are the ingredients for a healthy family? Surprisingly, the answer is the same for each. The absence of these two distinctives leads to moral rot and cultural disintegration. A recent poll by George Barna points to the pulpit as the culprit. The health of our nation depends on the ability of the church, and specifically, spiritual leadership, to return to this vital biblical pattern.

Today on the Ron Johnson Discipleship Podcast: All counterfeit visions of redemption inevitably lead to despair and hopelessness. Today on the Ron Johnson Discipleship Podcast: The problem with counterfeit forms of redemption is that they inevitably lead to despair. The world becomes a cold, hostile, meaningless place. Life becomes pointless. Eventually pessimism and despair swallow everything. The modern "anti-hero" embraces the unyielding despair and defiantly rebels against it. The final act of defiance is suicide. Jesus has a better way! We'll talk about that in today's episode.

Today on the Ron Johnson Discipleship Podcast: Western secularism rejected God and limited reality to the material. The result was a mechanistic cosmos devoid of any meaning, purpose or morality. Secularism creates a profound spiritual emptiness that must be filled with something. This explains why new age beliefs and eastern mysticism are so attractive to many. They offer "spirituality" without any demands or doctrines. While materialism says, "Nothing is God," new age mysticism says, "Everything is god!" Both are counterfeit forms of real redemption.

Today on the Ron Johnson Discipleship Podcast: One of the biggest forms of counterfeit redemption in America today is scientism, the belief that science will be our savior. Through our ever-increasing scientific and technological breakthroughs, we will save ourselves. We see this myth embodied in our current battle with the Covid pandemic where basically one man in a white lab coat is dictating public policy for over 330 million Americans all under the authority of "science." For the Christian, science and faith are not in conflict. In fact, it was the Christian worldview that laid the foundation for the scientific revolution.

Today on the Ron Johnson Discipleship Podcast: With his book, Sexual Behavior and the Human Male, Alfred Kinsey launched the sexual revolution in America. His goal - to liberate sex from morality. He sought to convince Americans that all sexual behavior, in whatever form, was equal. In fact, uninhibited sexual expression was a form of redemption. For Kinsey and many Americans today, sexuality becomes the lens through which everything is filtered. Where did these ideas originate? And more importantly, what is the fruit of this counterfeit vision of redemption?
Today on the Ron Johnson Discipleship Podcast: When Christ is rejected as redeemer, someone or some ideology will take His place. In America today, we are witnessing the rise of the scientific socialist state promising government solutions to all of our problems. Each new crisis brings more government control and coercion. Mandates, fines, travel restrictions and cancel culture are the new "reality." Today we discuss the signs of neo-marxism in America and highlight the pain and chaos which are the inevitable results when the State pretends to be God.

Episode Notes Today we discuss the fifth barrier to Christian cultural engagement, "scriptural relativism." We live in a culture that has traded authority for personal preference. This is especially deadly when this philosophy enters the Church of Jesus Christ. We are witnessing entire denominations committing institutional suicide as they allow the culture to shape the gospel instead of vice versa. The late Francis Schaeffer described our current problem: "the failure of the evangelical world to stand for truth as truth." The Church must have the courage to stand for God's Truth as we engage the culture.
