Finally, I have got around to recording the song I wrote for Storytellers Club back in March. Hosted by the brilliant Sarah Bennetto, it's one of the best regular comedy events of all time, monthly at the Pleasance in Islington, every August at the Edinburgh Fringe and at various musical festivals around the UK.
This is probably the theme tune I am most proud of, out of every one I've ever tried to write. People clapped and sang along! I re-wrote one of the verses in the interval and inserted the audience's stories from that night! I didn't mess it up completely even though it was written in cryptic biro squiggles on recycled paper!

Friday 7th October was Ada Lovelace Day, a worldwide celebration of women in science, technology, engineering and medicine. It's named after the author of the first computer programme, and daughter of the wayward Lord Byron. The day has live events and a lovely big website, giving everyone a chance to write something about an inspiration woman, whether a well known celebrity, an obscure figure, or just a personal tribute. I wrote this song about 9 months ago, for a mini-musical about time travelling coffee shops which featured Ada as a character. The mini-musical remains mini (as in, unfinished) but I've recorded this version as my contribution to Ada Lovelace Day 2011. We've just started a podcast of our sensational sell-out science/comedy show, Festival of the Spoken Nerd. It has bits of the live show mixed with extra bits recorded in the studio with me, Matt Parker and Steve Mould - and - of course - extra time for the questions we didn't get time to answer during the actual show. This is the first ukulele-based theme tune, in a blues style, I expect it will go through other incarnations for future shows.

Andrew asked on Twitter for people to send over jingles for his early 2010 BBC 6 Music show - which was usually with Richard Herring but for a couple of weeks was co-hosted with Michael Legge.
I've written jingles for Michael before (see Precious Little Podcast jingle) and I met Andrew in Edinburgh last year so I thought I'd send one in. Apparently they played it rather a lot on the last day of Michael's co-hosting. So that was nice.

I wrote some jingles for a podcast called "Listen & Often" which is based on a bi-monthly (that means once every 2 months, right?) live show called Tall Tales at the Good Ship in Kilburn. It is verifiably the best gig in the world.

This a song that definitely never got used for the thing it was written for...
I wrote it with James Campbell for the internet pilot of his book show for kids, but it wasn't what they wanted. Ah well! I still like it... James' lyrics are brilliantly silly and "comfy comfy" is a tiny piece of genius. We wrote a lot of songs together for the 2010 Comedy & Songs for Kids tour, but this is one of my favourites.

"Michael is a Robot" - a song written with Bec Hill (and featuring her dude rappingness) for her brother's birthday. It genuinely uses an actual casio keyboard drum beat, and a couple of instrument noises from the same heap of junk / classic budget synth, however you want to hear it.

I wrote this in early 2009 for a kids sketch show with Tiernan Douieb, Stan Stanley and Lauren Shearing that never actually happened.
Thanks are due to Tiernan Douieb for the final lines about the perils of not having a bum.
I think it was the first multi-track recording I made on my own since I stopped recording my songs aged about 16. I just used the inbuilt microphone on my Mac and it seemed to come out alright.
