In order to reach young families often time churches need to focus on doing "young family things."
Local churches are familiar with the purposes that lie beneath their programming. If you are a "home school church," you often do a lot of homeschool things. Every area of a local church needs a well-thought-out strategy, especially the area of leader ship.
Every church leader is in a position to examine and evaluate things. That is the nature of what we do. Through all this inspection, oftentimes leaders see only the negative and can turn their comments into complaint.
This podcast offers a simple strategy statement that has helped countless church leaders take action rather than make excuses.

First impressions in a local church are super important.
For a brand new person coming to church everything is noticed. The signage, the cleanliness, the literature, but nothing as important as the friendliness of the people. If a first time guest gets a GREAT first time greeting it will go a long ways in developing them as a disciple of the Lord and a faithful church member.
This podcast covers an important strategy that is aimed towards your "insider people" to help them be effective greeters and to help them be aware of the needs of the "outsider people."

Comfortable or uncomfortable that is the question?
I don't think there are too many church leaders that wish for people to be uncomfortable when they come to their church. That being said, the big question is how far should we go to make them comfortable? If there is any lack of comfort, where should it come from? How can we be properly balanced in this area?
In this podcast we explore a simple strategy statement that will help every church leader make those determinations.

If you're going to reach new young families, you're not going to do it alone.
Every church leader needs to have active and excited ministry team members. Team members can often let us down in many ways by losing their dedication and excitement. Sometimes this has to do with the change of their stage of life, employment or family matters. Whichever it might be, you need to still make sure you have properly motivated team members. If you have some folks that are not serving with all their heart, or unable to fully execute their duties, you have a dilemma on your hands.
For me, I knew I must honor those that have served alongside, but I also needed to move on and find new workers. This podcast will give you a simple strategy phrase that will be a great help to you in fulfilling your duties as a leader.

When 95% of the work in your church is done by 5% of the people, your church is unhealthy. Sorry to be so blunt, but you are in a unsustainable death spiral. An unbalanced workload in a local church is not good for the leadership and it robs the members of the blessings of obedience, discipline and the joy of serving. Things need to change!
A simple starter stagey is explained in this podcast that will help you begin to recruit volunteers and gain momentum back.

If you were to examine church history, you will find that evangelical Christians have always been innovative and found new ways to bring the gospel to the masses. New methods of transmitting truth have been around since the first century.
Unfortunately in this age, and probably in all eras of church history, many methods have become stagnant, ineffective and ritualistic. A wise church leader will always take time to evaluate how well they are fulfilling the Great Commission. This weeks strategy statement is the result of someone sitting down and doing some serious evaluation. I hope it is as helpful to you as it has been to our church in finding ways to bring the gospel to our community.

Among all the important things that a local church needs to manage is the vital category of building a team. It is often been said that 95% of the work is done by 5% of the people. Let me be clear, that is not a statistic of a good team.
This week's podcast will cover a simple little strategy statement that will help you build up the members of your team and show them how valuable they are. . In order to help implement this strategy, I will give you three little areas of management that will help you get your team sharpened up and running smoother by next Sunday.

Strategy Statements are simple one line, one sentence, expressions that simply and effectively communicate vision and purpose. Learning to create and use such statements in an essential skill that every church leader should master.
Today's statement will help every church to keep "service to others" at the forefront of the ministry. In ministry, as in any other organization, we often step in to efficiency mode way to quickly. Some churches can streamline themselves right out of business. Taking time to remember we are called to hard work and serve other is not an easy task. The strategy statement "Easy for Them and Hard for Us" is both a reminder of our servant Lord's attitude and an imperative call-to-action to our volunteers in our local church.

In season two episode two, we were discussing a strategic statement that will help you with delegation.
One of the most important things we can do is church leaders is feed the flock of God. Right after that one of the most important things we can do is to lead the flock of God. We can't do everything by ourselves so we know that we need to enlist others and turn things over to them.
This month strategic statement will help you with the difficult step of turning things over to someone else. If we constantly have to watch someone do the work that we were doing, we are in just about the same place we were before. Only now we might be watching several people do the work! True delegation eventually has a release point. This podcast is all about that.
As always if you find this helpful, please share it with someone else in the ministry.

This is the final podcast in season one. Our next season will be dealing with strategies, the long term thought processes to help a Church go in the right direction.
We all know that relationships are important, but how do we get them to grow and become strong? One of the best ways is to give them time. Time helps living things to grow. In this episode we urge you to put relational events on your church calendar. Importance of these events cannot be overstated.
It is often difficult to calendar relational time because we put so much value on preaching and teaching the word. In this episode I urge you to resist the temptation always send people home right away so they can come back for more teaching.
Building a church that is strong relationally will pay great dividends in the future.

Today's podcast covers a very important topic we call "hang time".
In the football world, this term is used to determine how long the ball is in the air when the punter kicks the ball. Longer is better. In church world, it is determined by how long people hang around after church and before they get in their cars and go home. Likewise, longer is better.
Some of the most important things that a believer needs will be fostered during this "after church" hangout time. Friendships, advice giving, bearing one another's burdens, and just plain old biblical fellowship will be found during the 30 to 60 minutes after church is over.
Learn more about how to foster this import relational tool in this podcast.

Taking time to fine-tune all the little details of church work is extremely important. There's an old saying that says, "The devil is in the details". I don't really care for that saying because I don't want to give the devil any credit for the hard work of the Lord's people, but I do think that attention to details and fine tuning can make a much bigger difference than we often think.
Recent studies have shown that people make their decisions to return to a venue, whether it be a church, a restaurant, or a business, within the first few seconds. The brain has an amazing way to analyze hundreds of little tiny details that all add up to a singular decision. I believe the way we interact with one another is key to the likelihood of returning guests.
This podcast gets into the tiny details of an important moment in your Sunday routine--The Handshaking Time. Listen all the way to the end of this episode where you will find several actionable ideas that you can implement by next Sunday.

The remaining episode of this first season of The BETTER SUNDAYS Podcast will cover many individual topics along these three important tangibles.
We all know that every Sunday something seems to go haywire. I don't know about you, but for me, there are about 20 areas where we could do better. With that being a give in almost all of our church, one thing I am convinced of is if the people really really want to be at church, it is a great day!
Congregational anticipation seems to cover a multitude of goof ups. But how can we make that happen? These next two podcasts will really help you see some of the key elements of creating that flourishing church where newer folks, regulars and even first timers are anxious for the day to begin so they can be in the House of the Lord.
Show Notes:
Every Christian should be striving to improve in every aspect of their life. I need to pray more and better. I need to witness more and better. I need to be a better husband and father.
Self improvement is natural and wise.
Churches too should strive for improvement. The BETTER SUNDAYS Podcast is tool to help that become a reality. Most churches I work with want to be the best that they can be for their community and for the Lord. But, how to actually improve, sometimes is very difficult. The Ethiopian eunuch in Acts chapter 8 wanted more understanding and to be the best he could be. It is interesting that he also knew that he needed someone to guide him. All of us can use good advice from folks who have been ahead of us on the trail of life. My experiences with hundreds of churches has give me a unique perspective which I have yielded to God for His glory. This podcast is the outpouring of a lifetime of ministry to small, local church around North America. I am here for you so we BOTH can be better for Him!
