At the Hub, we believe in a world that is clear, fair and safe. Driven by a vision of ensuring sustainable development in the city, we, the young people in Guwahati, are central to developing solutions and policy advocacy for lasting change. Empowering youth to initiate action in areas of climate and sustainability, education and employability, health and humanitarian support by promoting inclusivity and diversity is embedded deep in our philosophy.
Navarun Varma is the Assistant Director of External Programmes and Resident Fellow (Lecturer) in Residential College 4 (RC4), University Town College Program (UTCP) of National University of Singapore (NUS). NUS-RC4 specialises in design and teaching of seminar style multi-disciplinary modules with the approach of systems thinking and system dynamics modelling. He teaches modules on Disaster Resilience and Water Governance in Asia (Singapore Studies), and also designs out-of-classroom learning experiences.
Navarun has co-edited the book on 'Emerging pedagogies for policy education and practice: Insights from Asia' (Palgrave MacMillan), which is forthcoming and is currently working on another book project (Marshal Cavendish) on 'Sustainability issues in Singapore'.

Guwahati Shaper Manisha Dutta met with flood-affected members of a community in the Barpeta district of Assam to discuss with their challenges, Such discussions enable us, as a Hub, to better understand their needs and formulate and well-designed policy papers, which is the end-goal of this project.
MAHABAHU, or Multi-sectoral Approach around Hydrologically-connected Activities in Brahmaputra and Allied-rivers for Human Utility, is the first project by the Global Shapers Guwahati Hub and it stems out from our work during the Assam Floods of 2020.
The Global Shapers Community believes in the power of youth in action and is a network of young people, less than 30 years old, driving dialogue, action and change. It is an initiative of the World Economic Forum. The Guwahati Hub, founded in June 2020, addresses problems related to environment and climate change, social equity and inclusion in the city of Guwahati and other parts of Assam.
As a community, we believe in a world where young people are central to solution building, policy-making and lasting change. Today, the largest population sub-group in history is youth, and there is an unprecedented opportunity for young people to take an active role in shaping the future. This generation has inherited enormous global challenges but also holds tremendous potential in confronting the status quo and offering youth-led solutions for change.
As a grassroots volunteer organisation with a worldwide footprint, the Guwahati Hub aspires to include and promote local solutions to global problems and highlight region-specific challenges. As we shower light on our issues, we look up to other Hubs across the world to find best practices in building solutions. This podcast is an intro into our world at the Guwahati Shapers Hub, what we do, how we do and why we do, to promote a more aware society and shape the future of our city while working on our vision of ensuring sustainable development in the city by empowering youths and promoting inclusivity.
