Multi-podality
We are graduate students in the Department of Language and Literacy Education at the University of British Columbia. Thanks to the department’s support, we have come together to explore multimodality in all its forms.
As students and educators, we are interested in the ways people engage in multimodal communication and expression across a range of activities. We are also curious about how different ways of multimodal teaching and learning can build a better understanding of concepts and create a sense of community. We aim to encourage others to think outside the obvious box of multimodality and reflect upon their own practices to discover new ways of learning and sharing knowledge.
Ultimately, we hope our podcasts will spark an interest within the education community and beyond.
In Episode 5, we sit down with LLED’s very own Dr. Kathryn Shoemaker, a talented and creative children’s book illustrator. Listen in and learn about the art of illustration, what considerations need to be taken into account when collaborating with others and the importance of the visual component.
In Episode 4, we lead you into the exciting world of ballroom dance with 2 former presidents of the UBC Dance Club. Learn how teamwork, coordination and movements of the body have united dancers and changed their lives. In Episode 3, we explore the Sensory Perception & Interaction (SPIN) research group at UBC. Learn about this exciting group of researchers who design and build innovative physical, touch-based user interactions to solve real problems for real people. You’ll get an insider look into some interesting inventions such as a gadget that emits vibrations to increase the auditory experience as well as CuddleBits.
