Hope Is For You

IS THIS TRUE FOR US?

WAS IT TRUE IN JEREMIAH’S TIME?

These are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the surviving elders of the exiles, and to the priests, the prophets, and all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had taken into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. – Jeremiah 29:1

Build houses … plant gardens … 6 Take wives and have sons and daughters … 7 But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. – Jeremiah 29:5,6,7

But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” – Matthew 16:23

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” – Matthew 16:24

The Healing of Your Body

Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. – Isaiah 53:4

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole. – Isaiah 53:5

How did Jesus serve?

With compassion – Serving stirred Jesus’ emotions “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.” - Matthew 9:35-36
With consistency – Jesus took EVERY opportunity “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” – Acts 10:38 3. With creativity – Jesus used what was at hand

As a young man – Faith to Live Beyond a Comfort Zone “The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD made all he did to prosper in his hand.” - Genesis 39:2-3

The Enemy Speaks Distrust 1 Samuel 17:43-44 - “’Am I a dog,’ he roared at David, ‘that you come at me with a stick?’ And he cursed David by the names of his gods. ‘Come over here, and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and wild animals!’ Goliath yelled.”  God Speaks Hope Luke 4:9-11 – “Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, ‘If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. For it is written: “He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you,” and, “In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.”’” Luke 4:12 – “And Jesus answered and said to him, ‘It has been said, “You shall not tempt [test] the Lord your God.”’”

God Created By Speaking Genesis 1:1-3 – “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”
God Related By Speaking Genesis 3:8-10 – “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’ He answered, ‘I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.’” Genesis 2:16-17 – “And the Lord God commanded the man, ‘You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.’”
God Demonstrated By Speaking Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Hebrews 1:1-2 – “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” 1 Corinthians 14:3 – “But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.”

What Is Fasting 2 Samuel 12:16-17 – “…David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground. … nor did he eat food with them.”
How To Fast  Regular Fast Judges 20:26 – “Then all the people of Israel, the whole army, went up and came to Bethel and wept. They sat there before the Lord and fasted that day until evening; and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.”  Full Fast Acts 9:9 – ‘And for three days he [Paul] was without sight, and neither ate nor drank.”  Daniel Fast Daniel 10:3 – “I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks.”
Why Practice Fasting  To Grow In Humility Psalm 35:13 – “…I humbled myself with fasting, and my prayer was genuine.” Matthew 6:16 - “When you fast, stop looking sad like hypocrites. They put on sad faces to make it obvious that they’re fasting. I can guarantee this truth: That will be their only reward.”  For The Good Of Others Esther 4:16 - “Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do.”  To Increase The Power Of Prayer Acts 13:2 – ‘While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.”  For Spiritual Victory Mark 9:29 – “So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”  To Follow Jesus Matthew 6:16 - “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting...”

Matthew 2:10 - When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.

THREE CHRISTMAS QUESTIONS

What do you Seek? Matthew 2:1-2 - Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?” Matthew 6:33 - But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Philippians 3:15 (The Message) - So let's keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision - you'll see it yet!
What Will You Do? Matthew 2:2 - …“Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:11 - And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. Psalm 16:11 - You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
What Do You Bring? Matthew 2:11 - …And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Psalm 126:5 - Those who sows in tears shall reap in joy! Proverbs 11:25 - The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.

HOW TO EXPRESS YOUR LOVE TO GOD

Worship Intentionally Matthew 2:1 - Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
Worship Biblically Matthew 2:5 - So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet (Micah 5:2): 6 ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ”
Worship With Joy Matthew 2:10 - When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
Worship With Humility Matthew 2:11 - And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him.
Worship With Generosity Matthew 2:11 - And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

THE RESULT … A LIFE DIRECTED BY GOD Matthew 2:12 - Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way.

Lamentations 3:22 - The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Psalm 30:5 - Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. Malachi 4:2 - The Sun of Righteousness shall arise, with healing in His wings. Luke 1:78 - The rising sun will come to us from heaven 79 to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace. John 8:12 - Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness.

IT’S A NEW DAY

New Creation John1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John1:3 - All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
New Life John1:4 - In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. John 10:10 - The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
New Victory John1:5 - The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 1 Corinthians 15:57 - But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Giving Revives Our Love Philippians 4:10 - But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity.
Giving Teaches Contentment Philippians 4:11 - Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. Philippians 4:12 - I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Giving Makes Us Stronger Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Giving Increases Our Blessings Philippians 4:17 - Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account. 18 Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God. Philippians 4:19 - And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

HOW GIVING BRINGS GROWTH

Giving Makes Me More Like The Lord James 1:5 - God is generous to everyone and doesn't find fault with them. 1 Chronicles 29:14 - Everything we have has come from you, Lord, and we can only give you what is yours already!
Giving Draws Me Closer To God Matthew 6:21 - Your heart will be wherever your treasure is.
Giving Breaks The Grip of Materialism Matthews 6:24 - You cannot serve both God and money. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 - Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them ... to be generous and willing to share. In this way . . . they may take hold of the life that is truly Life.
Giving Strengthens My Faith 2 Corinthians 9:13 - It is a proof of your faith. Many people will praise God because you obey the Good News of Christ—the gospel you say you believe—and because you freely share with them and with all others. 2 Corinthians 9:7-8 - Everyone must make up his own mind as to how much he should give . . . for cheerful givers are the ones God prizes. God is able to make it up to you by giving you everything you need and more so that there will not only be enough for your own needs but plenty left over to give joyfully to others.
Giving Is An Investment For Eternity 1 Timothy 6:18-19 - Use your money to do good . . . always being ready to share with others whatever God has given you. By doing this they will be storing up real treasure for themselves in heaven -- it is the only safe investment for eternity! And they will be living a fruitful Christian life down here as well." Ecclesiastes 11:1 - Give generously, for your gifts will return to you later.
Giving Blesses Me In Return Proverbs 22:9 - Generous people will be blessed . . . Deuteronomy 15:10 - Give generously . . . and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.

Luke 17:11 - Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off.

Be The One Who Calls For Help Luke 17:13 - And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
Be The One Who Walks By Faith Luke 17:14 - So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.
Be The One Who Gives Thanks Luke 17:15 - And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. Luke 17:17 - So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”
