The earthly life of Jesus was filled with a power to connect to the working of heaven here on earth. He lived life in a mysterious partnership with God’s Spirit. The good news for those who follow him is that the same Holy Spirit is sent as a partnering presence to all who receive Christ. In this series we will engage afresh how we can each develop our own relationship with the Spirit’s power to lead, transform and enact the work of God.
Conversations. Some are just polite exchanges. Some are practical exchanges. But there are some that can be life altering. They can change our understanding of life…and ourselves. In this series we engage such living and life-changing conversations with Jesus. You will never be the same. No one ever was. No one was ever meant to be.
Relationships. We all know that they provide for the deepest longings in life. We also know that intimate connections can be difficult. We want to be good at loving others …but others may not feel as loved as we’d hope. Why do so many find marriage to be more challenging than expected? What can offer a fresh perspective and restore our experience? In the midst of so much changes and confusion in the roles of men and women…how can we find a healthy sense of how to be men and women in relationship to one another? In this series we will engage the underlying issues that we face in developing relationships today… and how some fundamental truth can help guide us to love and live well.
Sometimes a voice from “outside” is needed to reveal the problem at hand. The prophets in the Bible were those voices. The “Minor Prophets” refers to the final twelve books of the Old Testament and the term “minor” refers only to their shorter length ...not their importance. There is a major message in each of these prophets….which speaks to us today. In these voices we hear the how the heart of our God confronts the unfaithfulness of human life…with the reality of both consequences and hope.
Jesus says that those who hear and put into practice his words will be like “the wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24) In a world of uncertainty we can build our lives upon a solid foundation when we learn how God’s Word can be sown like seed into our lives. When the Word of God is “planted in you…it can save you… and you will be blessed in what you do.” (James 1:19-25)
The Bible is not simply a book…it is the living Word of God…the unchanging foundation which we can build our lives upon. In this series we are going to get to know “The Book” that knows us… how to better understand its inspiration, interpretation, integration, and impact. These weeks are infused with practical means to build your life upon that which will last.
Topics include: 1. Getting to Know The Book that Knows Me (Orientation) 2. Why Can I Trust the Bible? (Integrity) 3. The Bible as One Unfolding Storyline (Integration) 4. "Mind the gap" is a phrase that became common in the London Underground to alert passengers to notice the gap between where they stood in the train doorway and the platform they needed to reach. God speaks to us about a similar gap…the gap that that stands between us as people which we need to see and navigate our way across. Come explore how God can guide us across the political gap, economic gap, racial gap, generational gap, and neighborhood gap. It is precisely these challenging gaps which Jesus showed he can lead lives across.

Engaging the Ten Commandments
Many of us may have an aversion to the very word “commandment.” We tend to think that between us and a life of freedom … lies those who impose rules to control us…including God. The truth is that we are so unclear about who we really are…that we can’t grasp that the nature of these “commands” is a declaration of freedom…freedom to flourish. What we discover is that these are not arbitrary moral rules…but rather God declaring that there is an unchanging reality to be aligned with. We may tend to think of these as rule that we can break…but in truth, like the “law of gravity” it is we who will be broken by their unchanging nature. Like the unchanging nature of a compass in revealing that despite how disoriented our sense of direction is, there is a “true north” and a way home where we can live and flourish. Come… engage afresh these ten unchanging truths.
